I've switched to Jeenee - good service over the phone. They were very friendly and helpful and I got set up in no time. And for every five people who switch, someone in need get a phone service, which is great.

    • +1

How do they determine who gets a free phone service? Becuase i'm definitely in 'need' of a free service.

      • +3

According to their site : "free mobile services donated to people living with a disability".
        Do you meet the criteria?

    • Brownbag - can you comment on the 4G network speed?

      • yes. It is good for me, but I can't really comment on what it would be like for you as it does depend on where you live. I'm in Geelong.
        sorry about the late reply.

  • No contract either - only 3 months for the initial startup.

  • +5

$25 plan seems like a ok replacement for those losing their TPG $18 value plan.
    Pro: Optus 4G
Con: $7 more & internation call not available\included

I prefer Telechoice Kogan $25 plan, same offer (included international calls), but on Telstra 3G and 12 months contract.

    • +2

      +1. I finally went to telechoice 12 months…

      • Was considering doing this but wary of the leaving process/fees for TPG as I also currently have international roaming enabled and also the coverage of the Telechoice network (understanding its not the full Telstra network?). Could you shed some light on this if possible?

1gb data and no free social networking just isn't enough and the next step up on TPG's new plans is like $40 or something

        • +3

Good coverage for me..Was previosly with Amaysim (Optus) and HelloMobile(Vodafone)…For me Voda and Telstra network is pretty much same..but have not tried them since im staying around CBD…..

But more user experience is here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2074604&p…

        • Cool, thanks for the reply, I will check it out!

    • +2

Just had a quick look at Telechoice. They have an unusually intrusive application for a prepaid phone plan:

Have you been at this address for more than 25 months?
      Current occupation
      Employment status
      Employment length
      Current occupation
      Residency status

      • +2

Thats same for postpaid as well…

      • +2

        Telechoice is postpaid, not prepaid.

    • Hi Bakalien .. what do you mean by "those losing their TPG $18 value plan" ?
Sorry im out of the loop but have a family member on the TPG plan that im paying for, keen to know if there are any changes to it?

    • +1

I also changed from TPG to Telechoice ($20/month 1Gig data $500calls) - couldn't be happier. In the end optus may have good coverage but Telstra has MUCH better "penetration" (that's what she said). Now I can check the internet inside stores like myer/david jones/kmart/target/big w etc for the best price - with optus it's very intermittent, optus 3G internet is slow or cuts out in the department stores (shopping center wifi don't reach deep into these stores as well).
Plans seem to get worse so this 12month contract doesn't seem too bad.

Price matching "on the go" inside brick and mortar stores much easier on Telstra network.
Also data is calculated per 10kb blocks.

      • I'm not happy with Telechoice. They kept charging me extra charges such as Video MMS, international SMS since 2nd month even I never made those calls or SMS. The month after, the charges were even much more. I started making complaint to them. I told them I never ever made those calls or SMS. Their staff said you deleted those calls/SMS from your phone. She told me if I want to dispute the bill I need to call their dispute section. But my calls to that section never got answered. So, I had to turn to Tio to complaint them. Tio told me I was not the only one and a lot complaints about Telechoice.

And, Telechoice website is hard to check your mobile usage. Their website pretty much only provides usage check only. Unlike TPG website, they provide a Mobile Service Control Panel to allow you to change you mobile phone services/features.

I can't wait to finish the contract with Telechoice and then switch to other provider.

        • +1

I've read enough comments on OzBargain alone about 'variable' Telechoice customer service and billing irregularities, to not be surprised about the TIO complaint level you mention. People should also not forget about the 25cents/MB excess-data usage, which falls into the unconscionable range as far as I'm concerned.

If you feel you need a Telstra-network plan, and you're on Telechoice's 2GB plan level, the new Lycamobile 'Super Saver Plan' is your best option at present.

Month-to-month plan. On the Telstra 3G network (like Aldi) so not on the full NextG like Telechoice and Boost, but you may notice no practical difference, coverage-wise. Data-wise, I have read that Telstra are going to uncap all their reseller-network speeds.

I can't speak to the quality - or otherwise - of Lyca's customer service, but for $29.90 a month (big saving relative to Boost) you also get - like Boost, but unlike your current Telechoice capping - unlimited calls (except 6 digit numbers) + text, and the 2GB data allowance.

Sorry to hear about the grief you've been getting and hope that the info above might help you or somebody else in the thread in a similar situation.

        • Thank you for you info.

    • Wait, losing what? Is TPG kicking old customers out?

      • no, they have increased most plan by around $3 and also reduced download quota citing price increase by optus…. so people are not happy…

        • Urgh. Vaya, here I come. Or one of the other competitors.

At least I get 4G out of it.

  • +1

Good plan, but no option for international calls

    • any good plans out there with international calls included?

      • I am with Optus Prepaid Connect4Less which gives good international rates with 23c flagfall and local call is also 10c per min with 23cents flagfall. Overall ok but data is charged at 1MB per min which is an issue because of Optus hectic data coverage in my area.
Virgin mobiles also have international call included but not good as small service providers.

      • +1

optus prepaid social gives you 250 mins to call 23 selected countries. i call my friend in nz for about 4 hours for free which works out cheaper than any prepaid plan ive found

        • I realized that too. With $30 you get unlimited social networking, 250 mins to call mobile or 23 countries, $30 bonus credit and 500mb data (4G)

      • Telechoice I believe.

  • +28

signed up today….lasted a week with vaya…..biggest rort of a company…..claimed i used 2.25gb in 3 days of useage…..checked itemisation…..have about 50000 times of 1mb lots ….never again….least these guys charge by the kb not MB

    • +19

hahahahaha this is why i refuse to go with vaya good story thoroughly enjoyed it/10

      • I am with vaya, for the first month with my normal usage I just kept an eye on it to make sure I didn't go over. For me the data they charge me for is almost identical to the data usage my phone reports. As long as your phone stays connected to the network the session (that they charge in 1mb increments for) shouldn't end, and it doesn't for me.

    • +2

I too had a horrible experience with Vaya around the way the data is calculated / presented. Do you know if there is a 48 hour delay with JeeNee's data calculation?

    • ouch!

    • +2

I've had no problems with Vaya. Been with them for close to 10 months now, with two different phones. Never had absurdly high usage. Billed by the MB too.

  • Not too bad, but with $650 of calls, thats around 20 mins a day.

Unless you use a lot of data, and little calls, then pay a little more for the Optus plan

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/149815

Just a side note, how many of you actually use that much data on your phone? I get 2gb a month, but use around 700mb….most of the time I am on wifi in the office or at home.

    • +1

Bro when I was on Vodafone and could use funny money to buy data I sometimes used close to 10GB a month. When it's an option to use it believe me you can use it ;)

    • i use my work phone more since its on telstra 4g but i can see myself chew through 1.5gig i have pretty easily if that's the only phone i had… :)

  • +7

Anyone utilising Jeenee Mobile able to provide a 3G/4G Speedtest?
Interested to know if Optus have them at lower network priority.

  • +3

The KB data billing will be much better than the MB billing, I am with Amaysim (Optus before) and 4gb feels like its 400MB. You have to be careful as the optus network is sluggish and if you have your network on auto mode, 1MB is charged each time the network switches between 3G and GSM(which happens more than once in a minute) Mobile data needs to be off.

  • +1

Got to meet the people behind Jeenee Mobile at last years M-Enabling Conference in Sydney. I'm happy with Telstra but after TPG mobile changes, will be recommending the missus to switch over to Jeenee's $25 plan.

    • +1

Scratch that. I'm gonna switch over too!

  • Seems a reasonable deal, however, as I am with 4G Vaya $18 per Month deal and happy with it, won't switch over.

    • Same here, happy with Vaya.

      • +3

Also happy with Vaya @ $18. Optus 4G seems rather lacklustre however. Not terrible, but I can't say I've noticed an amazing difference vs 3G.

        • +1

my 4G is getting around 2mb/s according to speedtest
          3g is around ~500kb/s

but i set my nexus 5 to only use 3G, 4G is too much of a battery drinker.

        • That's so slow!!

        • well i was inside my house with 1 bar 4G :)

  • Not looking that great compared to Boost Mobile in all honesty:

    $40
    Telstra 3G network
    Unlimited national calls/sms
    3GB data
Option to buy new starter packs with $40 credit for $2

For me the $5 extra is worth it just for the network performance rather than the calls.

Edit: I was mistaken as I assumed this was Optus 3G, 4G makes this a possibly much sweeter deal although if you have poor Optus network performance where you usually are I'd carefully consider it. No point in a 4G network if you have poor network performance a lot of the time but I haven't used Optus 4G so I can't really comment.

    • +3

      Boost is 2GB of data

      • +2

        and only 3G.

        • Yes indeed but on some networks I don't see this as much of a feature considering the network performance, it just doesn't make enough of a difference to real world performance.

However this is indeed a decent deal after my false assumptions are taken away.

      • Ah indeed you are correct … why did I assume it was 3 - did it used to be 3GB?

        • Yes, I think they changed it around 6 months ago

    • Where can you buy starter packs with $40 for $2?

      • +1

I don't know how it works but from what the guys at shop counters tell me it's up to Telstra who gets them. Currently Coles and Allphones (Adelaide) have them.

Make sure you determine that it is a $2 SIM with $40 credit since other retailers sell $2 without credit.

      • +2

        I don't think you can…

  • $20 set-up is a pretty big turn off for me

    • +2

well, most mvnos charge a $20 fee for the sim card or something like that. Pretty reasonable imho.

      • +3

You are right but partially, here is why..

Telechoice : No set up fee.
HelloMobile: Charges $10 for SIM bit SIM comes with $10 credit.
Amaysim: Charges $5 for SIm but SIM comes with $5 credit.
Aldimobile: $5 SIM starter kit but it comes with $5 credit.
        Lycamobile: Free SIM no charge.
Lebara : Free SIM no charge.

    • +2

Vaya has a $20.00 setup too

  • -2

You should probably note that at the bottom of that link to their website it says the $35 pack has a min monthly cost of $55 etc etc.

    • +3

That minimum $55 monthly cost is for the first month only it seems due to the $20 set-up including delivery. But I think it's $35 subsequently

      • yep that's standard across all of this type of providers… tpg vaya etc… :)

      • +1

Sleet, almost certainly 'nope' on the '$35 subsequently'.
People should anticipate the likelihood of $40/month beyond month one.

  • +3

    International calls not included.

  • +8

    +1 for being not-for-profit

    • Easy to be non-profit, with deals like this! :P

  • +1

Can anyone who has been with Jeenee comment on the 4g coverage from a data perspective? Does it roam you off 4g quickly when you start using data and what are the download speeds like (ie: quick burst then slow)?

Im just wondering given the price level whether Optus has something in place to drop you like a hot potatoe from ever getting to reasonable consistent speeds for data.

    • +3

i'm on the vaya 4g from optus and i have no doubt optus does something on the backend … whether i can ever prove it .. no idea.. hehehe

      • Care to post a speedtest result?

  • +4

For me, Telstra PrePaid is the best value.

$50= $1000 worth of calls and texts and ~4GB of Data.

    • Please explain… 4gb data?

      • +1

He obviously using the $50 included credit to buy data packs. Yeah that is a good way to go about it.

        • What Ronnnie said

        • Does that include voicemail? Can you please link to more info? Thanks :)

  • Its a good deal if you are in an optus 4g coverage area. I don't get why it is taking optus/vodafone so long to catch up with telstra on 4g coverage. Hopefully when this new 700 mhz towers come online they'll expand their coverage.

  • That's pretty decent. I'm on Optus' grandfathered Woolworth's prepaid at the moment and am actually considering switching for the 4G.

I get $500 balance made of:

    $221 MyBonus

    $250 Optus Money

    $29 Credit

    5.00GB Data

This is all for 45 days.

Anyone reckon its worth switching and paying extra $9 for the 4G and -300MB data or should I stick with Woolies?

    • +1

You mean -2GB of data per block $ spend…

This plan - I presume - also reverts after first month back to $40 per month.

If you want / need / have convinced yourself that you need, 4G, and you really understand all that you will lose relative to gain, go for your life…

      Otherwise, frankly, you'd be nuts.

  • Guys, if I switch from my current not-available-anymore Woolies prepaid to Jeenee, will I get my same current plan if I switch back to optus later?

    • no

      • Dang. Looks like I'm staying with Optus for the time being at least.

        • We posted at the same time. Also see above, to make you feel happier about staying where you are.

        • Haha thanks for that comment above. I don't really /need/ 4G but am not sure whether it would be worth losing a good amount of data for faster speeds.

Thanks to you, I'm sure I'll hang back.

        • I am on the woolies plan as well, its just too good, but I would like 4G speeds :(

  • +2

Are 13, 1300, 1800 numbers included in cap?

  • i will stay with virgin's 4g $20 plan for now. (currently 1.2gb is enough and $20 is $15 cheaper than $35)

  • The $35 promotional offer is only available until 31 August. Because it is a month by month plan, does this revert back to $40 after the promotional period?

    • +1

Lay odds. That's the way these offers usually work.

    • No, it says expressly, once connected, lifetime.

  • Vaya 18$ same thing but only 1.5gb data
I'm with them so far so good

    • same as me 1.5GB is more than enough for me using wifi at home

is the same deal as vaya except your paying an extra $17 for the 3GB instead of 1.5GB on vaya.

    • except Vaya charges in 1mB blocks and Jeenee charges by kB

      • +1

only if your careless with managing your data e.g not checking usage

  • This is a great offer compared to competitors. Goes to show how overpriced and how little you get from major phone providers. I'm currently paying $26 a month for $500 credit and 5GB data directly with Optus ($30, but $26 after saving 10% buying credit in store). This plans also pretty good.

    • +1

Same plan as you and not sure if your knew but its also $26 online.

      • Can one of you link me to the optus plan your on?

        Super Thanks
