What fraudulent code? I clicked on a link to THEIR shop to buy a cheap NAS. Refund should be immediate.

    • +1

Damn straight. Definitely going to add WD to my 'enemies' list after this fiasco.

      • +1

Digital River should be on everyone's black list

        • Digital River = River full of digital crap full stop

    • +6

Fraudulent was the way they treated their customers…

      • We ozbargainers have manay names, "The Professional", "The Fraud". What about "Give me back my effing money"!!!!!!1

  • open a dispute on paypal to get your refund quick

still haven't got mine, i opened dispute on Friday, paypal states that they are still waiting for sellers' response till September 2.

    • hah.
      freaking epic that clause.

I think Paypal are the culprits here…

Buyer protection my butt. In this instance its seller protection! They debited my money 11 days ago and I've been paying interest on it ever since.

I've lodged a dispute and still nothing.
Next time when dealing with a big company I'll just pay direct to them… and if there's an issue I'll go to my bank (who will protect ME, not the dodgy asses on the other side of the world).

Paypal can suck a big one.

    • +1

PayPal Buyer Protection is rubbish; I no longer trust it or PayPal in general. On my two most recent disputes, I had to resort to chargebacks with my credit card company because PayPal sided with the sellers despite me never receiving the items. (In both cases, all the seller did was provide PayPal with a bogus "tracking number" which showed no evidence the item had even been sent. Case closed by PayPal with no possibility of appeal.)

      • And yet for me, when I lodged the claim, it was less than 12 hours from complaint to refund

lodged dispute with paypal 21/08/2014 22:14 AEST

And this morning I have Australia Post tracking advice of the new purchase in their possession and on its way

  • 3 days after launching paypal dispute still no refund.

  • I just received this email even though I didn't get a cancellation email before-

"Thank you for choosing the WD Store. A refund has been issued for order number 8815226XXX .

Please expect the refund to appear on your credit card within 3-5 business days.

Thank you for your patience and have a great day!

    Sincerely,

    The WD Store team"

I just checked my paypal account and the refund has been completed.

  • Here's my story so far.

I ordered the 8TB Duo on the 15th. Later on the same day I ordered a 4TB My Book Studio.

I received an order confirmation for both on the same day.

I received a shipping confirmation on the 19th for the 4TB.

On the 21st I received a order cancellation notice for the 8TB.

Today the 25th I received a refund confirmation for the 4TB and a refund from paypal.

I have no idea what is happening, and from the emails I have received from WD/Digital River, neither do they!

    • put in a dispute for the 8TB and contact them about the 8TB…

  • +1

The hold on my CC is no longer there. Took your time WD and thanks for absolutely no communication. You guys suck.

  • They have single handedly lost a lot of customers through the way they handled this.

  • I ordered and paid via Paypal on the 15th August, received an email saying it had shipped on the 14th (with the email received on the 19th), nothing yet. Have just escalated to a Paypal claim with reason "item not received within promised delivery window". Will post back here when something changes.

    • Just received the 'case resolved in your favour, refund processed' message via Paypal. I also had messaged them via their FB page.

  • +3

I say we all slam their facebook/twitter with complaints

    • Good idea.

    • +1

      Initiated Facebook protocol - lol

      • I've just got my refund after providing my details on their facebook page. the power of social media.

  • +1

This is their Australian FB should anyone want to make themselves heard
    https://www.facebook.com/WDAustralia

    • Just had a reply via their Twitter handle. They asked me for the case number which I replied with. Hopefully something happens shortly.

      • Keep us posted.

    • +1

Posted a message on their facebook aus page, cheers.

  • How Cheeky are WD? I just received a email:

"A refund has been generated for your order as a result of your request,
the fulfiller's request, incorrect address, or a refused shipment. Refund details:"

I did no such thing! Oh-well time to move on I don't even know If I can be bothered repurchasing.

    • The refused to fulfill their end of the sales contract. How pathetic.

  • Still haven't got my refund. Have just made a claim though Paypal. Will see how long it takes.

  • Finally called to chase, after ni emails after the shipping cinfirmation

was told that there is an ongoing fraud case being investigated and all orders cancelled (no surprise) and refund within 9 business days.

in guessing if i didn't call, theyd just keep the money until i chased eventually

    • +2

"ongoing fraud" investigation? lol. These guys are stupid.

    • +1

They should refund all the money first then they can investigate whatever they want. Poor customer services really bad. I used to love WD but not anymore. They lost my as a customer

    • I wonder many they sold? 100? 200? 500? It all adds up, the money they're holding is earning interest for them

      • As I mentioned earlier, 500 * $320 = 160,000. Let's say WD get 20% annually, that is 32k a year or $2,667 a month. This is peanuts for company of this size.

  • +2

LOL - "Fraud" my a$$, it's clearly an error caused by their system.

  • +1

I've had no response from WD or PayPal since I made a PayPal claim for a refund on Friday 22nd. I just checked my PayPal account to find this description attached to the claim:

    Disputed Amount: $319.99 AUD

    Status

This item not received dispute has been escalated to a claim.

We requested additional information from the seller about this transaction.

    What happens next

The seller has been asked to respond by 1 Sep 2014. Once we receive the information, we'll continue our review of this case.

(my emphasis). So much for a speedy resolution!

    I guess I now have to wait for the 10 days for WD to reply (or not) before PayPal (hopefully) returns my money :-{

    • Well something is happening!

PayPal has notified me that my dispute has been resolved in my favour and the amount has been refunded.

Its all there in my PayPal dispute record (which is now closed). The refund hasn't yet hit my credit card.

But, it looks as if the refunds are starting to happen, folks. About bl**dy time!

They've had our money for two weeks now, adding injury to the insult of accusing us of "fraudulent activity", when it was their crappy website design which was at fault. Seriously Wrong!!

  • So my order finally went from "Shipped" to "Returned" and when I called them up I got the same bs about fraudulent code and that they were going to cancel my order. I told them I did not use any code and only got the discount from clicking on a link to their site. They will now open a case for escalation whatever that means. They're not cancelling my order for now so there's still some hope. I'm still 320 short without anything to show for though.

    • You might be better off get back the money and use it somewhere else. The investigation has no time limit.

      • +1

"You might be better off get back the money"

That's actually turning out to be harder than buying the device.

        • I did not escalate the case. I just asked for refund when order was returned and cancelled. I received the refund on this Monday.

      • I received an email overnight saying my refund is being processed (though I did not request for it). I guess that works out good then seeing that people are having a hard time getting their money back. I will still persist with the dispute/escalation and see where that goes.

  • opened dispute on 22 Aug, still no sign of my refund……..

  • +7

Just got off the phone with them (again) and I kind of accused them of fraud because they took money from my account when they shouldn't have. I said I've referred them to the ACCC and that my money needs to be refunded to PayPal immediately - not another 7 business days as they are saying. She said I had used a 'code' to get the price reduced off the NAS drive. I said I did no such thing and well, it didn't go much further from there.

I am now no longer buying Western Digital products based off this experience. Western Digital = Mass Effect 3 ending. There I said it.

  • +1

Well I finally got the "Thank you for choosing the WD Store. A refund has been issued for order number…" email. Like the other posts mention, I'm surprised Western Digital hasn't taken a step back and looked at how much it will cost them from poor customer service. I have a few (well more than a few) WD drives at the moment and will be looking at other brands for upgrades, what do people recommend?

    • There is a chance that WD don't even know about it as the website is run by a 3rd party and only use the name.

    • Toshiba/Hitachi

  • order has been cancelled email received on 21/08, no still no sign of $$ ?!! THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!

  • Hi, does anyone have a contact telephone number for the WD store they have found that works - I am getting the run around. Many thanks.

    • 1800429861

      • That number seems to be for WD support, not the WD Store. The only option which might be relevant on that number is "pre-sales"?

The only number I've found for the WD Store is the international toll-free one shown on the store website 00-11-800-22754932.

EDIT: D'Oh! ms is quite correct - his 1800 number is the same as the international toll-free.

I couldn't figure out which IVR option to select to get to the WD store, so I went through pre-sales. Eventually, I got to someone who said that their supervisor would contact the finance section to expedite the refund.

  • Mine has arrived - no instructions as such so you have to download software for install and then set up accounts for god knows what and do more installs and updates etc etc etc
Now I have 4 extra icons on the screen for ????

I really just wanted 8tb of storage

    • Not really, you can just point your browser to the drive's IP address and setup from there. Then you access the drive directly to the IP address or map it to a letter.

  • still waiting

  • Still no refund!!!

    • Called them last morning only to ask about why there was no refund yet. Was told the refund was processed the previous day and to give it 2-3 days to show up. The transaction did appear later last night.

  • Davros, your 8tb was delivered!?!?

    • Yes - this was the $359 deal - sorry, I put the comment before in the wrong thread.

  • WD called me today and said refund was another day or two away.

    • What bs. Why another day or two away. Why not instantly? Shocking service

      • Paypal says I've been refunded today so I guess it'll appear back on my 28Degs tomorrow or Monday

    • They called YOU???

      You lucky jammy bast ard!

      :-D

  • I called PayPal last night to complain about the time taken to refund my money and then it was finally refunded around midnight, not happy about how this situation was handled wish there was a way that I could vent my anger at WD and digital river!!!

  • …and I just got a refund for my 8tb order. So that's it then, no 4TB and no 8TB.

  • Got my refund as well at 1:39am this morning (according to Paypal). I put in the claim on Tuesday so about 3 days or so.

Checked my online credit card balance and that money has not gone though…

  • +2

Refund finally through in PayPal through dispute. Not a peep from WD…

    • That's what I got, despite having previously received a shipping notice! WD, you lie!

  • Got an email from paypal, disputed has been closed even not received money.

"Please allow up to 7 days for the refund to appear in your account. Once the refund is complete, the case will be closed."

  • I didn't get any notification from WD that my ordered was cancelled but when I logged in to check the status of my order it had qty shipped: 1 and qty returned: 1

Couldn't find a phone number to call them on or any email or query page, so I've given up on receiving it going by all the cancelled orders on this thread.

Raised a dispute with paypal yesterday around 3pm and the case was resolved with a refund just after midnight.
Pretty quick turn around from paypal, the refund has appeared on my paypal account already but not on my credit card.

    • the more people raise a dispute via paypal, the quicker it got, for first couple of member who open a dispute will take longer..once it reach certain amount of dispute, paypal will refund pretty quick

  • Ok.. I was watching what is going on… haven't lodged a complain with PayPal, Looks lie they have refunded my money few hours ago…. Anyway WD lost another customer…

  • +1

PayPal sent notification that investigation complete, refund completed. No refund in account yet. Lesson learned… Don't use PayPal when paying large companies, and just use direct credit card and it's charge back protection. PayPal have provided "seller protection" in this case, not buyer. WD stuffed things up royally with this fiasco, but PayPal have made it worse by holding money for so long. Frak them both! Terrible service. Never buy off Digital River, and PayPal only for small purchases from unknown sellers … Long time before I forget this crap.

    • +5

And even worse is they are honoring the 10% discount code at $359 all this crap over a measly $40 difference ?? I would've paid it if they asked.

      • +1

        Me too!

        Idiots.

      • yes .. agree..

      • +1

Exactly, but they were "not satisfied" supposedly… :/

      • And for me too.

        Finally some movement from paypal…

        Disputed Amount: $319.99 AUD

        Status
This claim has been decided in your favour and you'll receive a refund.

        What happens next

Please allow up to 7 days for the refund to appear in your account. Once the refund is complete, the case will be closed.

        • I also got this last night at 1:30am, but nothing on my credit card yet.
What a mess, 3 weeks+ to get a refund for a purchase THEY cancelled.

  • Got this email this morning with a personalised coupon code.

Thank you for ordering from the WD Store. Due to some technical issues on our end, your order was cancelled. You will not be billed for any cancelled items. Customers who placed orders using PayPal will receive the refunds within 5-7 business days. We apologize for any inconvenience caused due to this error.

We thank you for being a loyal WD Store customer. Please accept this 15% discount coupon code* for your next purchase. Please visit www.wdstore.com.au to place your order. Your coupon code is ******** and is valid until September 30, 2014.

We look forward to serving you.

    • Got the same email as well.

      • Yeah, ditto. I was just about to post this. A late apology is better than none at all. I guess they thought that they were being scammed hence the initial curt response. At least now, they admit that it's a technical glitch on their part and made an effort to rectify it with this email and discount code. I'm easy to appease so it's all good for me.

BTW, I paid with CC so I didn't get charged at all for this transaction.

    • received the same email, maybe they should issue a 20% off code for their incompetence and make everyone happy.

      • I received the 20% off code for the initial order because their system interpreted the order as having completed.

I then ordered second drive with 20% discount due to be delivered Monday.

received the apology email with another 15% off code….

Now waiting to see if I receive another 20% off in the next few days ;)

      • Got the same … interesting "Due to some technical issues on our end, your order was cancelled." Earlier it was a fraud… even with 20% I am not going with WD.. I know its just one out of millions .. but for me "no more WD.. "

        • -1

Same here. I bought some Seagate drives the other day from JB HiFi.
20% off seagate products if you sign up to their newsletter.

Someone has posted it here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158727

Won't be buying any WD products after this fiasco.

        • -3

Really? So you viewed the original deal as legitimate? The click this link, then click back, clear cache if it don't work sort of ordering? You are getting upset about it? Not going to buy from them cos they cancelled your order? lol.

        • +1

          @Freegs:

They held our money for 3 weeks knowing full well that the orders weren't going to be honored. On top of this, they trot out some BS about fraudulent codes?

That's reason enough for me to avoid WD from now on, at least where possible.

    • Well, PayPal finally got around to putting the funds back to my credit card. At least that's over!

Or so I thought, until I received the sort-of apology email. Finally, they've admitted that the problem was at their end.

"Due to some technical issues on our end, your order was cancelled."

Unfortunately, the provided 15% coupon code is not useable at the Outlet Store, only on full-priced items. Since I can use the 20% education discount on them anyway, its not of much use.

    • +3

WD should fire the manager who cancel all orders for 5% different??? Idiot

  • LOL Just received an apology email from WD and a coupon code for 15% discount, they have also relisted the 8tb drive's for anyone wanting to jump back on the merry-go-round.

  • +1

    Got the same email.

Unfortunately, the code doesn't work. Western Digital are not handling this well.

    • +2

The code doesn't work on specials.

I could buy a wd tv for $149.99 apply the 15% code to take off $22.50 but then they sting me $11.50 in postage because the wd tv is 1 cent shy of $150 free shipping.

      Very funny WD.

      • Stinks almost as much as the dodgy "We give 20% off to students" line. Login, the prices are 40% higher!

      • Give 'em $150 and say keep the change.
