      • They could have just put a hold on the card instead of a charge. Is it showing on your credit card statement online?

        • Yeah, it's an auth hold - my mistake. They need to cancel it then :-) Then I can spend it on something else.

  • So no one has received their order? This sucks!

I've got shipping confirmation (no tracking) and pending transaction against credit card. Here's hoping it's not going to be cancelled but looks like there's a good chance that it will.

  • It's an education discount, the 20% ?

I probably qualify for it anyways…..

  • Western digital's systems show the order as still processing. They will investigate with the warehouse and contact me in next 24 hours.

  • +1

I have it on fairly good authority that these orders will not be completed. Before you all attack my comment, it's just a heads up, i'm not trying to spoil the party. I'm as disappointed as the rest of you.

    • Taking their time about it.

"This is a disaster. No one is going to receive anything." -Lukin 20/08/14

Your first post was "alarmist", 1 day later and now you've gone for "authoritative".
Well that's a pleasant change of tune.

I predict your next post tomorrow will be "acceptance".

      I see progress mate :).

      • Damn, he was right, no deal!

        • But sounds like some DID get their order, so hardly 'disastrous' ;).

        • @UFO: I didn't mean it literally UFO. But I still feel the whole thing was a "disaster" considering a lot of people placed orders. But each to their own. We're all on the same side :D

  • Shows "Boxed Shipment"
    awaits cancellation email

  • 8TBs are back in stock but I cant seem to get them for 320 any more :(

anyone know how the education program works as it appears its still showing as 399 when I try check out…?

    • Education discount doesn't apply in promotion items, you will get the discount on the original price not the $399

I paid through paypal using credit card. My CC statement says payment has been cleared (no more pending). and there is also nothing in paypal to suggest a refund of any sort.

Those whom have received cancellations, can you please confirm if any of you paid via credit card if so, around what time did you place your order, was it close to when the deal was posted or towards the end.

What I am trying to conclude is that if you have paid via any payment methods other that credit card your order could have been cancelled because WD was not able to clear your payment on time.

Also, if you have placed the order towards the end of the "out of stock" it could be that they may have orders more than they can deliver. so they could be trying to cancel the last batch of orders that they cant fulfil.

This is why i sometimes dont use Paypal, and just use the credit card directly when purchasing larger items like this from well known sellers.

Paypal are notorious for holding onto money for like a week or so before handing it back… so if you have been charged on the credit card, thats paypal actually taking the money from you and into their account.

Ive had purchases in the past where Paypal have taken the money from my card, I've contacted the seller to say they refunded me 3 days ago, and Paypal have still held onto the money for another 3 days.

They claim its fraud protection, I claim that they are using everyones money interest free for a week.

Anyway, long story short… I paid with credit card directly with Digital River. Card was charged on order date, and I think I was one of the first ones to order (I ordered as soon as I saw this post, 3 hours after OP posted it), and so far so good. Email confirmation, credit card not refunded, and hopefully awaiting shipment.

Nothing to lose really. If it doesnt happen it doesnt happen. I'll just wait and see, but it was worth a shot at this price!

      • when I rang few days ago, WD did confirm that they have received payment in full and it was also cleared. Hoping that it dosn't get cancelled.

    • around what time was your order placed. Thanks in advance.

    • My credit card pre-auth has been cancelled. So I would not hold any hope. Just look out for the funds being returned.

  • I just received a cancellation email from WD for for the MyBook Live duo 8TB. After calling them for the reason, they said: All orders from a bargain website are cancelled, including yours. Refund will be given in 1 to 2 business day.

    • Got the order cancelation email. Says nothing about the refund. Do I need to contact PayPal or will the refund be done automatically by WD?

      • From the call I made to WD, they said it will be done by WD automatically.

Bummer, That is a good price, even just for the HDD alone. As a NAS, it might not be as good as other brand like Synology

  • Got a phone call just the finally

Guy asked me how u made my order which I just said I went to your website and purchased and it have me 20% off extra

He then said there was a link on a Bargin website which hundreds of orders were made and it was a fraudulent link

He said my order is cancelled along with the other orders too that contained the fraudulent link

    • From my point of view, it is all about market shares. Putting WD NAS into people's home will push away other NAS. For $80, ($399 - $319), it is well worth the cost. Let's say it had 500 people ordered that unit. That is just $40k in total. (Assuming our fellow ozbargainers adhere to the ozbargain code and order one or two at a time, not 5 to 10 so that others cannot get them), WD can easily take that on a marketing expenses.

    • Oh well, didn't really need one anyway… Still kind of dickish.

I'll be damned, Lukin was right :D

I wonder what happens with my My Book Studio 4TB Drive ($159.99). I got a shipping confirmation email on Tuesday, no drive though.

No correspondence about my 8TB drive which I ordered in a separate order, except for the Order Confirmation email, and getting charged for it by PayPal.

    • Fraudulent link? So the feds are on to us? I'm assuming they've contacted the police about this mass fraud and organized crime.

      • We are the professionals, after all

  • To label it as a fraudulent link is B.S., I don't think the reason they have provided is good enough. If they say there was a system error which was giving out incorrect pricing, then they might be able to get away with it.

I still await to receive a cancellation email. I guess once I get it I will try and fight it. because I am sure there are people out there who also obtained the same pricing as us without the use of OzB.

  • +6

Seriously, there should be a professional section of ozb, shielded from the prying eyes of these newbs that make unnecessary calls to these companies.

    • Why were people even calling for? How impatient can you be

    • What would Gerry say?

    • +2

Exactly. Some Muppet has called them and spilled the beans on where they saw the deal. WD has then come to this site and cancelled all orders made at these times.

  • +1

be angry, email WD, this is why I like DS….they always carry though there sales even if there was an issue, show them a consumer back lash! they charged people! man how annoying.

  • AND HERE IT IS. But no mention of my payment being refunded or not.

    • +1

I received a similar email. Rather poor customer service, I thought.

I can accept that WD did not intend to sell this product at the price we were charged, but to cancel the order with such a dry auto-email and no clear explanation is disappointing. Specifying "Not Satisfied" as the reason for cancellation is nonsensical. Could have been handled so much better. No mention of refund, no offer to charge the difference if you still want the product at the higher price.

A simple but polite message like "sorry, this was an error with the site that we are unable to fulfil at this price" would have been less frustrating. As it is, I'm now just that little bit less likely to consider buying from WD in the future.

  • Yeh seems strange I had a delivery confirmation
but I've still not been charged
I did have a hold on my credit card and that appears to be lifted…..

  • Are all the orders cancelled or just the 8TB mybook live duo ?

  • Just received an email from PayPal advising about refund from WD.

At least they did not drag it on like Dell does.

Edit : I am not associated with WD.

  • their call centre is closed :S, it did say 9-5 AEST, and its only 430. I bet they did this purposely.

    • Of course they did. Must be trying to hide their heads in shame.

I got my 8tb today must be the lucky one. I payed by bpay.

    • cool. Did you get a shipping notification? I didn't but no cancel email. Here is hoping mine as it at home! lol

      • What date/time did you submit your order?

    • About 6pm Friday

    • +1
      • no price on the invoice, coincidence?

  • Did the folks who had theirs cancelled receive a delivery confirmation?

I have an email, saying its actually left the warehouse. Maybe they processed a few before realizing the error?

I guess I'll find out tomorrow

    • Lucky!

I paid through Paypal on the 15th around 3PM. I have received no shipping notice. I don't have an invoice. I haven't been contacted about a refund. I haven't been refunded yet (no change on paypal statements)

All I have is a confirmation of the order. That's it.

I am even willing to pay an extra $20-30 for the order so that it gets delivered. But I am losing hope that it will ever get delivered.

        Same, same and same.

I went and bought a gigabit switch and cat6 cables for it yesterday lol

          OH WELL. We tried.

        • @liveyourlife:

          Got the same email.

I like the excuse for cancellation being "Not satisfied" - obviously it was WD who weren't satisfied and cancelled.

      • I paid by credit card. I ordered 1 Live Duo 8TB. I received my order confirmation at 1:44pm last Friday.

I'm willing to pay a little more. I can pay with bpay. I thought the link gave us a 20% student discount. I can provide them with a student ID card and proof of enrollment. I don't have an edu.au email account.

It seems unfair they process the odd order and cancel others. If the plan is to cancel the majority of orders, they should have notified us at the beginning of the week.

  • +2

    order cancelled

    • Same here :( Reason for cancellation: Not Satisfied. They read my mind!

  • Is the 6TB worthy of reordering at $299 ?

    • -1

I'd say it's still a good buy. $50/TB is about the average for a hd but you get the NAS features with this. I'll probably re-order if mine gets cancelled.

Does anyone know if it's available in the Education store at the same price? I thought they have limited selection there.

      • Answered my own question - Education store price for same product is actually more expensive. $559 for the 8tb so I guess it's discounted on the RRP and not sale price.

    • +1

It's better paying $269.99 for the 6TB. Get the 10% off code by joining their newsletter.

  • +5

Man, i'm sick of being burned by these companies.

Seriously. I'm sure that at these prices they are still selling at WELL above cost and surely still making a markup at these extremely low prices and also due to the quantities they would never have sold normally.
Sometimes these companies should just take it on the chin and as one OZB member has pointed out… WRITE IT OFF AS MARKETING EXPENSE…. SO instead of doing that, lets take up floor space, worker's hours reversing these transactions, then pedal them off for $100 in a year or two because no one wants them.

    Take a hike WD!

  • Grrr got cancelled!!! Tooooo

    No refund yet…

  • Still nothing for me and it saying boxed shipment. Fingers crossed! (But I don't like my chances). ACCC might here about this one ;)

  • My Book Live Duo 8TB

    Ordered: Friday, 15 August 2014 14:14
    Payment: PayPal - charged immediately
Cancelled: Thu, Aug 21, 2014 at 8:18 PM
    Refunded: ??

Congrats to those whose orders were successful.

  • My 8tb duo got cancelled ordered using paypal and still no refund I really needed the drives too not happy

  • Just got my cancellation email, too.

  • CANCELLED!!!

  • I just got the dreaded cancelled email aswell :(

  • Cancelled. ACCC getting a complaint.

No refund through PayPal. It should be instant of they are not fulfilling their end of the sales contract.

  • Yep, cancelled. Just refund me ASAP that's all

  • +1

    yerp. canned.

  • Ordinary reason for cancellation from WD.
    Reason: Not satisfied.

    Now, where's my money?

  • received email, checked my netbank, CC transaction reversed :/

  • Pricks just cancelled on me as well and no mention of refund

  • +1

    Yep, cancelled.

And to those thinking ACCC, you need to understand what "invitation to treat" means in consumer law and realise no laws have been broken by them cancelling the order.

They arent obligated to sell you something until they issue you with a receipt/invoice AND take payment.
Until both those two things happen (offer AND acceptance), there is no sale and no obligation to complete the transaction.

All websites work on the same premise.
When you put something in your cart and give your payment details, its just like you are at the supermarket.
Until you hand over cash and get a receipt, you (or them) can withdraw from the sale.

    • +1

I figure them taking my money and holding onto it since last week, cancelling the order and not refunding it immediately is cause of concern.

    • UFO, does an order confirmation count as an invoice?
My PayPal was also charged, which indicates that a transaction has taken place.
I am just really disappointed at the way WD has handled this whole issue. The refund notice I received simply said "not satisfied", with no other explanation.

      • I agree completely mate, WD has handled this very poorly… and I'm very annoyed that I'm paying interest on my credit card for funds withdrawn last week (and still no refund), but I also know ACCC isnt going to help me.

        • if you open a complaint don't WD have to pay a certain amount regardless?

    • It's not that they did any illegal, but, like others have said, they handled it poorly. I think if enough people write in, WD will get a letter from the ACCC asking them to explain.

I'm not going to write to ACCC because I know this is another case of a store getting ozbargain'ed. Someone found a loophole or a mistake and we tried to exploit it. Sometimes the stores know it's better to make some profit from the sales, but others want more and cancel our orders.

I read in comments that WD got 'hundreds' of orders. You would have thought it would have been a good profit maker.

  • yup cancelled as my request?! anyway no refund yet

  • +1

Do you think either of these are still worth buying?

    $269.99 - My Book Live Duo 6TB
    $359.99 - My Book Live Duo 8TB

I bought the 6TB. I will feel sad every time I use it. It should be a shiny 8TB! :(

  • +6

I for one will never buy another Western Digital product.

Utterly disgusting that they held onto my funds for this long if the intention was to cancel all orders.

  • And…….cancelled.

  • +1

I have already escalated a dispute with paypal and given link to ozbargain too a complete joke to hold on to the money this long only to cancel my order

  • +1

Same here received a cancelled order email - same BS reason on the email of "Not Satisified". Paypal debited on 15/8. No refund received or mention of them providing a refund.

Terrible service and response on this, a large company like WD should do better. Doubt I'll be buying WD again if I can help it, and definitely not online.

  • got canceled! sign…

  • Got "cancel" email today. not happy jan , august actually..(:

  • +2

Yup cancelled. I dont think Ill give WD any business in future. They dont have a good reputation for a solid product as is and with their warranty in regards to Return To Base setup, meaning you have to send it overseas instead of having an AU postal address then I think my cancelled order was a blessing in disguise.
WD have totally soured their reputation towards their target customer base aka Ozbargainers within the IT field such as myself. Good luck getting any future business from me again.
