  • Can uou us more than one gift card when buying online with dick smiths?

      • The physical gift cards have a barcode and pin the same as the digital ones and don't use the pinpad, but I have not tried it personally.

      • +1

Confirmed and it works. I used the physical Dick Smith gift card on Dick Smith website couple weeks ago.

        • Didn't the site only accept one gift card per transaction?

        • @grasstown: I replied to unity1 regarding if physical gift card worked on dick smith online. And the answer is yes. BUT, I only used one gift card (plus one credit card). So no proof if Multiple gift cards work.

        • +1

@eleana: I've used multiple Wish cards online.

        • @eleana:

I used 3 digital Dick Smith cards in one transaction last night.

Buy your DS gift cards at Coles with your ING paywave card.

    • +1

      Isnt that a given? =-P

      • Well, it wasn't included in the calculations? That makes it 9% + 12% + 2% + 5% = 28%?

    • +1

You'd have make a lot of individual gift card purchases to get enough to purchase a Mac - as just purchasing 2 cards (@$100) in one transaction would exceed the ING paywave limit

Plus to do so would prolly mean ING might contact you about 'abusing' the terms of the promotion

      YMMV

      • ING payWave is for purchases under $100, so I don't think even one $100 gift card would work…

        • For ING PayWave, what is the best way for existing customers to get the 5% again?

        • Pay 5c of it by cash, then the $99.95 by payWave to qualify for the 5%.

    • 2% now for most people.

  • +3

You forgot to carry the 2…

  • Just wondering if anyone has actually done this before .. Can't imagine a DS employee would be happy at being given 20 odd gift cards as payment

    • +43

Can't imagine any happy DS employee. Gift Card or not.

      • +1

I'm a happy DS employee, as long as I get coffee!! ;)

        • +12

          and your hoarded clearance items

    • +5

The system can handle it. We can even take multiple different types of payments if you wanted to do it that way. As long as you get AppleCare/Extended Warranty, we're happy ;)

      • +1

Nobody should ever pay for "apple care" or extended warranty.

    • +6

just have the pin sticker scratched off before hand- saves 20 seconds per card.

  • +9

Travelling overseas in next 60 days? Get GST back as well via TRS.

    • Sounds awesome if this is possible.

Naive question on my part, but can you pay via gift card and still claim TRS?

      • +2

You can. I've done it before. Anyway gift card is cash in your hands so logically I cannot see any difference.

        • +1

Plus its even better because you get TRS on the full price (in this case 12% off price) of the Macbook because the method you obtain the gift cards is irrelevant

        • -1

I believed in this and purchased DSE Giftcards from COles.

If we pay the total amount via Gift card, GST will be 0 which means you will not be eligible to claim TRS

    • +1

I would also like to advise that TRS claims can be pre-processed online on:
      http://www.customs.gov.au/trs/startclaim/index.htm

You will be able to upload an image of the receipt (not sure if you still have to produce the original receipt at the counter though).

You will be issued a TRS Claim Code, which is supposed to allow you to claim TRS faster. Might be handy as peak season is coming up, that TRS counter queue isn't going to get any shorter :-/

Another point worth mentioning is that if the price on the invoice is > $1000, then your name and address must also be on the invoice (according to the TRS website). I didn't know this until after I purchased the item. I'll go back to the store to see if they can re-issue another invoice for me.

      • And if the item is >$1000 and you bring it back in to Australia then you are required to declare it and pay duty on the import.

        • You're better off losing it overseas, paying a small excess on your travel insurance, then re-buying it back in Australia again. Not sure if that works out OK

  • Don't forget to use Paywave on your $50 DS giftcards from Coles? Another 5% off? Lol.

    Edit - beaten by kulprit.

    • pawned by 32 minutes.

      • +1

Alright, I am a slow reader. How about this? Don't forget your fuel vouchers. If you buy a $1000 Macbook Air, that's around 20 fuel vouchers. That is worth about $1.60 each for me. Lol.

        • 20 fuel vouchers on 20 cars?

      • +4

And don't forget your neglibible flybuys points.

  • +2

Has anyone done this yet? (or used more than two gift cards per online purchase? Which I heard might have been a limit? or was that just the $10 for $5 ones?)

Note: I did similar to this previously using a DSE offer for 10% bonus credit (on two $500 gift cards).

    • keen to know this as well… Thinking I will use 5% off Coles gift cards (through my work) to buy the Dick Smith Cards..

      • my work place have the same service, but i don't think i will receive them in time. coles deal end on thuesday and ds deal ends tomorrow

  • +3

    Legendary post

  • +2

So… Don't have that new 5k Retina iMac in stock yet hey?

  • Sweet… still ~15% off in general for other DS stuff.

  • +3

Head spinning, must soothe with beer…

  • +16

Only a true Ozbargainer would understand and appreciate this post. Mere mortals can't understand half way through the post!!

  • **Assumptions: (if wrong please comment)

    excluding 10OFF…

    1 - [ (1-5/55) x (1-5%) x (1-12%) x (1-2.3%) ] = 25.7%

    :)

    • Why not throw in some discounted wish cards (DM gift cards) into the mix from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/165449?

    • fair enough- except the cashback will reflect the RRP less the 12% discount.

      • -1

        in that case, excluding 10OFF…

        [ 1 - (1-12%) x (1-5/55) x (1-5%) ] + [ (1-12%) x 2.3% ] = 26% off

but if only using gift cards in-store without paywave cashback then

        1 - (1-12%) x (1-5/55) = 20% off (not 21%)

  • How do you get the Coles cards at 5% off?

  • Do I understand it correctly that 28% is possible only if DS online store accepts lets say x40 gift cards as a payment? Otherwise we are not getting the cash back and thus it is 12 + 9 + 4.5 => 25.5%, correct?

  • If you buy in store, do you think that would include BTO systems in the 12% discount?

    • BTO are never discounted, and I see the conditions this time say the same - excludes BTO.

      • Does this mean it's not possible to upgrade to 8gb ram with this offer?

        • cant you just get the non retina mbp and upgrade it to 8 yourself?

        • @lickjimmy1: sorry should have specified, I meant for the MBA

  • I'm confused, how does 'everyone' get the in-store 21% off? and why Sat only? Thanks

    • The Instore offer is only for one day

  • +1

Has anyone actually got this to work online? (by using heaps of dick smith cards?)

    • yeah, how many can you stack? is there a limit? also, can u get a refund on unused gift cards?

  • Don't know about purchasing 20+ gift cards…but want a rMPB.

  • -8

Too much stuffin around for me

  • you can collect 850 flybuys points in coles.

  • +2

    A top spec rmbp would be 2600 after 12% off. That's almost 50 $50 cards. That's 50 transactions with ING. O.o

  • +2

No ones actually confirmed this works yet

  • +11

Got 10 x $50 DS Giftcard at Coles.
Bought a Mac Mini i5 (Last Gen) Online with Click and Collect.

The only pain is to key in 10 card numbers and pin at check out. Otherwise it works fine.

After the 12% discount + 9.09% off DS gift card discount + $10 off code, actual out of pocket is $484.72

Can't wait to collect it tomorrow and upgrade with a 256GB SSD and 2 x 8GB ram that I already have….

    Can't be happier. Thanks OP.

    • nvm

    • edit: nm

    • I tried it and it is painful….

    • which store did you get GCs from (what state/city)?
I called 3 stores in Sydney NSW and none of them have GCs.

    • +1

Carlingford in NSW, which is the 2nd Coles I went.
Look deeper. I actually found mine hiding behind some skype credits for some reason.

  • Missed out on the 24% deal. Not gonna miss out on this one.

So without the 12% discount it's $1822 (Macbook pro 8gb 13inch) which is 20 bucks off Apple.

Do I just rock up DS tmr and I will automatically get the 21% off? So it should be around $1440 ?

    Thanks

    • You need to buy the gift cards from coles to get the extra discount, otherwise it's only 12% off.. You'd need to buy a lot of gift cards.

      • Are you sure ?

Op mentioned 21% it's applicable to everyone so I'm assuming not everyone is going to buy 33ish gift cards right? ..correct me if I'm wrong.

OP's post sounds like U just need to walk in..

        • Positive! If you had gift cards already or purchased them this afternoon you could've done it online last night.

        • I don't have any gift cards lol .. Ok no Mac for me then…thanks for answering my questions =]. Saved me a trip to DS

        • @rmk:

I think the op should say "21% in store with purchased GCs".. It's quite confusing ..

        • +1

@sauce2k: That's harsh on the OP who I think did a great job posting this deal and explaining how it works.

  • the listed price for a macbook air, 11.6 inch, 128gb is 967 dollars. is that with or without the 12 percent off? I tried adding it to cart and the price still says the same thing. do correct me if im wrong, but is 967 the discounted price already?
