  • Would you know if this is nation wide or just the local store stock? More than 10 available?

    Thanks

    • I saw 2 on the shelf

      • Cool, judging by the picture it could be nationwide.
It's been a long wait for Wii U consoles to be sub $299 again, these will go quick.

  • Just called 3 stores including Mt Ommaney and they said they don't have any stock…

    • Ozbargained!

  • I know they have less storage than the premium one but can you make the difference up with an external hard drive or something? If I get one of these would I find myself regretting it down the line?

    • +1

Yep you can use and external HD. Even the premium isn't enough if you want to purchase digital titles.
This doesn't come with the sensor bar or stand/charge cradle but those can be gotten fairly cheap.

      • Well damn, I'm sold then. I'll have to see if I can find a Kmart tomorrow, thanks!

        • Nintendos site says it has to be specific externals, but I am not entirely sure abou that thou, I wasn't going to risk it. I got the 2TB seagate from Dicksmith.

        • +1

Good luck with it. These are like hen's teeth.

      • so can the USB storage be used for the exact same data as the internal storage? is there any noticeable difference between having a premium Wii U and a basic one with additional storage? (apart from the physical attachment obviously)

        • Yes it can be the exact same, when you download something it asks where to save it, I think it remembers after that, and all your saves go on the drive too. I don't seem to notice any load differences to internal.

Apart from the needed sensor bar there isn't anything in the premium edition that's worth the extra cash, unless you prefer the black?

        • Thanks, very good to know.
I'm not sure which colour I prefer, but I was thinking of getting the premium for the storage space. Probably is better value to get the basic and a USB stick.

        • @Sage: I wouldn't use a USB stick, you should use any external hard drive with a USB Y-cable: http://www.sybausa.com/pic/CL-CAB20042/phpYut6ca.jpg
          (As recommended by Nintendo)

I use a 64gb USB flash drive on mine. They cost about $30. If you use a hard drive it has to have a power source to power the drive so portable drives are out.

      • +1

Portable drives are not out. You just need a Y cable to use them properly otherwise you might experience issues with just one usb port plugged in.

      • 64GB … are you kidding ?

        • +1

What's wrong with that? Have the same setup with no problems. Don't buy many games digitally but needed a place to store my Mario Kart 8 promotion games last year, cheap and handy solution

        • Have you seen the Wii U eshop? Unless you're super keen to buy all your games digital there's no way you're gonna need more than 64GB. Virtual console games are 50-150mb, many Nintendo AAA titles are around 1.5-5GB and there are some games like Bayonetta 2 which are over 15GB. It's not like the PS4 that has mandatory 25-50GB installs for every single game. 64GB is plenty for me for a stack of digital games, game updates and save files. Also you can throw in another 64GB flash drive if space ever becomes an issue because there's two USB slots. It beats having an external hard drive hanging off your console all the time and they cost way more too.

IceCreamBandit is right, it's a quick and easy soluation for people who buy the basic models (the console itself has a mere 3gb of free space).

        • @Yuri Lowell: I stand corrected ;)

  • I'm pretty sure you will find low stock because the white one was discontinued a while back.

  • Anyone tried burwood Vic?

    • +2

      none there

  • +2

you may still find the Wii U Skylander bundles available at Target for $189 but very limited stock http://www.target.com.au/p/nintendo-wii-u-8gb-console-skylan…

  • +2

Made calls to: Burwood, Marrickville, Ashfield, Broadway, Chatswood, and Bondi Junction stores (NSW).
Unfortunately none have any stock :(

    • gg :/ maybe try Hornsby?

    • Rarely seen some of those stores keep consoles in stock at the best of times.

  • +2

Yes this is Nationwide, my suggestion would be to contact regional stores.
As most major stores would have sold out prior to christmas (at the original price)
Although I have not seen this product at my store for over three months.

    • Would you know if Kmart is getting out of games all together?
I haven't seen a Kmart re stock any 3DS games and majority of Xbox One and PS4 are all on clearance.
Maybe just sticking to latest releases only?

      • Im pretty sure Kmart dropped the 3DS last June when they had the $99 XL's

Dick is also looking that way after a good run at being competitive last year, and Harvey hasn't been making any kind of attempt to stock them properly in forever.

Myer and Good Guys got out awhile back.

Soon we'll just have JB and EB.

      • Pretty much Yes

It is a poor performing category, and makes near no money for the business. Most stock will be cleared out and entertainment department will reduce in size. You may noticed the new format stores have a small entertainment dept. shared with stationary to make 'Home Office'. This will be rolled out across all stores as they remove move gaming items.

  • 2 premium packs at Cannon Hill QLD. No basics left.

    • How much were the premium packs? :D

      • Full price

  • +1

FYI, I ended up going to have a look at Mt Ommaney (OP) even though they said they didn't have stock on the phone. Turns out there was still one left. The girl behind the counter had to call the cash (?) office because there were none out the back.

    • Awesome!!! Now go get some smash bros!!

      • Already done :) Thanks for the heads up on the offer Britta

  • I managed to pick up the Mario Kart Premium Bundle for $390 by buying 2 $200 big w e gift cards at 7.5% off from Groupon, then using them to buy $400 JBHIFI gift cards and purchasing it there for $419. It's not a great deal, but it's the cheapest I could get it.

  • managed to get the Wii Basic when they were clearing them with Nintendo Land / Just Dance / Extra Wiimote/sensor bar for $169 just after the launch of Mario Kart ….didn't realise how much of a great deal i got until recently!! :O
