yay good quality screen for my virtual pinball… :) thanks OP

    • assuming you have heard of/using visual pinball and Future Pinball?

Have you seen the 3D headtracking and realtime perspective correction addon for Future Pinball at www.ravarcade.pl (Its called BAM, Better Arcade Mod).

      • nope. thanks for the info. will look into it

        • Prepare for mind to be blown. I had the same idea and pitched it to a digital pinball company way back in about 2008 (they collapsed shortly after and werent able to go through with it). The big difference being I simply had an idea…. but this dude had an idea and some amazing skills and actually brought it to fruition. :)

Claimants should allow approximately 20 weeks (from date receipt/claim form is received by the Promoter) for delivery of the Television. If delivery is likely to take longer than 20 weeks (including due to unprecedented demand), claimants will be notified via email by the Promoter.

    That's a joke

    • Haha get in early? :P

      • +9

You might be able to purchase this TV for $299 from Dick Smith in 20 weeks time.

It clearly implies that if there is a heavy demand it may be longer than a 20 week wait.

        • +1

If it was 32", sure, but if you can wait for that worst possible scenario I doubt a branded 40" Full HD screen would drop to that sort of dollar.

But hey each to their own, still a cheap tv :)

And there's a chance they're just covering their ass, but I have no idea!

        • +1

@Spackbace: In 20 weeks time you would be hitting the end of financial year sales. You will see these FHD TVs drop more in price as more 4K TVs hit the market.

        • +1

          @unity1:

As I said, they could just be covering their ass. Personally I wont be going for the deal (finances, dont need another tv!), but if anyone is concerned about supply time, maybe try calling them and just ask the question.

          Promoter - Treasury Wine Estates Australia Limited (ABN 78 145 321 320), 58-82 Queensbridge Street, Southbank VIC 3006. Phone: (03) 8533 3000.

        • +1

@Spackbace: Good idea. There is no hurry as there does not appear to be any limit on the number of TVs they are giving away. It's just a matter of making the qualifying purchase within the promotional dates.

If it was a two week wait I would not have any hesitation making a purchase.

Best price at the moment is $498 http://www.2ndsworld.com.au/samsung-40-full-high-definition-…

        • Not the current rate the $A is going.

      • +1

Probably? You have no idea of the future and you thought that deserved a neg? Wow…

        • In all fairness though, this has got dodgy written all over it. The 5-6 month delivery time doesn't make you suss?

        • +2

@COR80: drawn out perhaps, why suss?

        • @Tal_Shiar: "Allow for 20 weeks". Doesn't mean it will take 20 weeks. Might be 4, 8, 10, 15 weeks. Based on the speed of their reply to barleyshake (below), it looks like they might process/dispatch a lot faster.

    • Notified by the promoter to wait for another 20 weeks?

  • -1

Are TV prices Riesling or falling? Id make a joke about more sell, and Moselle but that would be stretching it I think.

Oh and 'POTENTIALLY' this TV? So just as easily not that TV?

    • +3

Ts and Cs dont state a model number, however that is the only Samsung on the market right now that matches the features they describe. Also the site shows the TV, and its a dead ringer for the one I linked to. However, without it actually stating which model, I cant be 100% sure and don't want to make statements they have a 1% chance of being wrong.

Make your own decisions from the info available :)

    • +10

      Tryin too hard.

    • -2

      When did Reddit invade Ozbargain?

  • Not a smart TV? can anyone confirm if it has USB ports for hooking up Hard Drives

    • +2

It might be a bit hard to confirm until we can actually confirm the model number of the TV

      • Thanks, TGG page is not much of a help either.

        • +3

          Try this http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

This is definitely the TV they are giving away. RRP = $679

        • -6

@unity1: thanks Unity1, but thats like 2 times the price. I do already have a TV just bought on Boxing day but if its this cheap might as well get it and put in bedroom

        • @unity1: Urghh! 2 HDMI inputs! Dammit, electronics companies, at least make it 4 HDMI inputs. It's trivial to use 3 HDMI inputs (one for XBMC or equivalent media player, one for a chromecast, and one for set top box or PVR). That's before even getting into gaming consoles, Apple TV, displays for laptops for gaming or presentations or family pictures, and so forth. So minimum 4 HDMI inputs, FFS!

        • +2

@nickj: My old Panasonic TV only has 3. I just put everything through my receiver which has 8 inputs.

        • @nickj: Yeah, it's a very basic TV. Almost not worth wasting money on. No smart TV. No MHL. I think I'll keep using my LA40C650 until it dies.

        • @kanibl:
Haha same TV as me :) Was still a good purchase with the free home theatre system

        • @Spackbace:

same as me… but that free home theatre system was a mongrel… i set it up, used it once and then in the cupboard it went.

        • @heathwithnoteeth:
I'm still using my free home theatre. Haven't had any issues with it. One friend had his centre channel die about 18 months ago.

The ethernet port on my TV stopped after a couple of years, but I now run a Raspberry Pi for my media streaming.

When the HT does eventually die, I'll look at a component system.

        • @kanibl: luv my LA32C650 as secondary tv such a good 100hz pic. would happily grab a 55 or 60" if they were still around!

    • I own the 32" model and it has USB media playback.

  • I would be all over this if it wasn't for the 20 week wait. Plus, I am not a huge fan of Wolf Blass :p

Not sure if I will go for it or not

  • -7

can u buy it, participate (scan the receipt or whatever is needed) and return wine back as im not a drinker?

    • -1

and then have the next person who buys the wine bottles ineligible to claim the promotion cause you already stole the codes.

      very unethical, even for ozbargain

      • Won't they be generic barcoded?

    • -7

Someone better tell why I am being negged?

      • Spreading FUD most likely.

        • Nothing I have state is untrue. Check the FAQ for yourself - http://www.wolfblasspromo.com/Promotion/FAQ - The warranty question is unanswered.

I just want people to be careful with this even if they don't mind waiting. It has red flags all over it.

        • +4

          @The Land of Smeg:

OK I'm going to put this out there…

          Thanks

It is 4.5+ months away until delivery, but lets say you don't mind waiting so you bite. What if the TV comes 4.5+ months later and it has a problem?

That has already been stated as a worst case scenario, not a precise time. Key words are "up to".

Who are you dealing with for warranty? Some dead pixels?

Like any other issue, you'd be dealing with Samsung directly. Doesn't matter who you purchase a Samsung product from, warranty is done through them

How do we know these aren't factory seconds?

Because that would be against their Ts & Cs and they could get into a lot of you know what if they did something like that.

I doubt Wolf Blass as well setup for warranty claims of electronic items. The details are so scant of who is actually the seller (if the promotion is outsourced, as they often are) and even which exact model it is.

Again, no store handles warranty claims with a Samsung item, you go through them directly

If you have a problem and then even manage to do a warranty claim in the end and you are offered a refund, you would have still bought at least $70 worth of grog you potentially wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Samsung wouldn't refund you, they would just offer a replacement screen. Have seen the same thing happen with my parents screen, had a line through the middle. They brought out a whole new tv

Even the FAQ has a question "How long is the warranty on the TV?"… but it has been left UNANSWERED!! They probably forgot to fill it in because they don't even know the answer.

Sloppy yes, reason of concern not really

They are not very forthcoming about contact details. Nothing but a PO Box, website and 1300 number that have been made especially for the promo. In fact who's to say it's not a scam with some elaborate graphics design and they aren't even associated with Wolf Blass. Not the first time on OzBargain this has happened (remember those SIM cards a week back).

In the Ts & Cs, first line has their full address and direct number as I posted above. As they legally have to. I don't think that's hiding anything, just because you didnt read clearly

Too risky if you ask me.

That's fine, no one is forcing your hand to take up the offer :)

        • @The Land of Smeg:

          http://www.samsung.com/au/support/warranty/

If you purchased this product in Australia and wish to make a claim under this Warranty, you should:
          * contact 1300 362 603;
          * visit the nearest Samsung Customer Service Plaza; or
          * visit www.samsung.com/au.

        • +1

          @The Land of Smeg:

It's usually good to do some homework before spreading allegations like this.

          1. Both domains are registered by the same Corporate Domain Provider - CSC Global

          2. Filling out the form requires correct inputs - inputting the wrong bar code does not let you proceed however you can skip this as it's an additional part.

          3. Making a Payment takes you to a HTTPS Secure Connection payment portal owned by Westpac, the merchant name is "TREASURY WINE ESTATES VINTNERS LIMITED" - this company is the parent company of Wolf Blass

3.1 The Address is "58 Queensbridge St, Southbank, VIC 3006" - Googling this is same companies address.

I would say this is enough to prove that the deal is in fact from Wolf Blass - the warranty does remain unanswered but it would still be provided by Samsung for the duration of 1 year which is required in Australia.

        • @Spackbace @DrStinge: Thanks for confirming those background checks. I was more concerned that there is no way to link back those legitimate company names/address/phone numbers back to the promotion. I wonder if you called the corporate number if they would be aware of the promo. That would confirm it.

Having to return directly to the manufacturer is against ACL, it should be able to be done through the retailer. If there are any issues who pays return shipping?

The Ts & Cs gives them so much wiggle room, in fact all they have really promised is a "Samsung Panel", Kogan uses Samsung panels. The only thing to suggest it's a real Samsung branded TV is that they have used Samsung's brand and likeness.

  • $299 + $70 = $369 for a 40" TV in 20 weeks?
I think it might be better going for a larger screen:
    48" TV for $399 -https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162517
    50" TV for $399 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174358

    T&C:
To claim a Samsung 40" LED TV (Television), claimants must: a.during the Purchase Period, purchase, in one transaction,$70 or more of Wolf Blass wine (excluding Eaglehawk range) from any licensed liquor retailer in Australia (Retailer) (online purchases permitted, on premise purchases excluded) (Eligible Purchase); then
    b.during the Claim Period, visit www.wolfblasspromo.com (Website) and follow the links to the TV promotion to complete the online claim form, including by providing their full name, billing and delivery address (must be within Australia), delivery preference information, email address and contact phone number (and any additional information as required by the Promoter);
    c.upload a copy of their ORIGINAL itemised receipt for the Eligible Purchase. Claimants who do not have an itemised receipt must also provide the barcode number of each bottle comprising the Eligible Purchase and also provide the name and location of the Retailer from which they made their Eligible Purchase;
d.proceed to the payment gateway to pay by Visa or Mastercard their $299 (includes delivery and handling) contribution towards the Television (once the claim form has been completed and the above payment has been processed in the payment gateway, a claim number will be provided on screen and by email); and
e.print out the completed claim form, attach their ORIGINAL receipt (itemised or non-itemised) to the claim form and send it to the Reply Paid address as specified on the Website. Please don't compare Samsung to TCL/Soniq.

      • +4

This is probably a fairer comparison using pricing from recent deals:

        48" Sony $498
        50" Panasonic $584
        60" Panasonic $769.97

Best price on this TV at the moment $498

Effective cost of TV in this deal $369

Good value ~ 20 weeks down the track? Who knows?

  • +2

This part of the t&c is interesting:
If the Television offered as part of this promotion is unavailable for any reason, the Promoter may substitute for it another television of the same or similar specifications as determined by the Promoter.

I'm thinking this makes it easy to substitute with a tv that can have a value of $299

    • +1

      Kogan?

  • I'm in 2 minds about this. I'd like another tv for my home office but 299 and a 40" is severely overcapitalising. Just need those $99 hitachi's to come back from DSE yesterday, totally forgot about that one

  • I would think its the samsung 40h5000.

  • Don't drink wine. Wonder if its worth the $369+ in this case.

Maybe if you still have Dan Murphy's gift cards leftover from the previous AMEX promos :P

  • +3

Would be decent if you paid when they shipped

  • +9

Hi Guys, below is the extract from my email to them clarifying the model:

Thank you for your email and interest in the Wolf Blass Promo.

At this present time we have in the promotion a Samsung 40” TV Model number UA40H5000.

If this model is not available because of end of life we will supply the equivalent replacement model from Samsung when it becomes available.

    • Thanks heaps for checking that out, can clearly see why they've put some of the conditions in (replacement model mentioned etc), just to cover their ass.

So, on with the promo :)

  • Where is a good place to get the $70 worth of Wolf Blass wines?

    • Whatever you do make sure you don't get the Eaglehawk ones! :)

    • I guess the real question is - where do I get the most bottles (best value) for the $70?

      • had a quick look - good bet is Wolf Blass Red Label - 9 bottles for $77.67 (case of 6 for $50.70 + 3 bottles for $8.99 ea) at Dan Murphy's.

        • +1

Does it come in a cask?

  • +1

the TV isn't their 100Hz screen. its a bit of a deal breaker to go through all that pain for only 50Hz

    • Agreed. Find it ironic that they have a cricketer on the promotion. This isn't going to be good for sports.

    • it says on binglee and few other websites that its 100hz, i couldn't find the info on Samsung website.

      • UA40H5000AW, not sure if the same due to the additional characters, AW, but according to Samsung site its Clear Motion rate is 100hz. I always thought Clear Motion was double the native panel rate, so this would be 50hz?

Unless I've got that, or anything else wrong.

  • +1

92 positives; any feedback / updates from people who submitted the claim?

  • This TV is available from Dick Smith today for $440 by using the code SHOP60 and adding a $1 item to your order http://www.dicksmith.com.au/samsung-40-full-high-definition-…

    • But that's not $299 :P

      • @Spackbace, $369 if you include the cost of buying the wine, especially if Wolf Blass is not your preferred drink…..I'm still contemplating whether I will make as much bolognaise & lasagne to use the wine up :)

      • +1

I'm merely highlighting how this tv is getting cheaper and cheaper. Anything can happen in 20 weeks, but the price will only keep coming down.

    • Yes and at least you get to use it now!

  • +2

Bought $70 worth of wine from Big Bargain B'shop with a special they had last week if you buy 10 of any Red Label you got them for $7 ea.

Sent in the receipt, paid the $299 and got an email this week from the promoter confirming they received it and would SMS when the TV was being dispatched..

I have this model TV ( paid $519) and its a great TV. This one is an extra unit we'll put to use in another room. I don't care if it takes 20 weeks and I got the better mixed selections of Red label too. I'm no wine snob so it's a great deal I think.

  • Why do the promoters need 20 weeks to deliver a TV? Seems a long time. Are they going to try and source unsold stock from a liquidator or something?

    • Its a worst case scenario. If the promotion was suddenly very popular, and Samsung couldnt supply enough of them, then they'd be up the proverbial creek.

I'd be assuming that the timeframe was given by Samsung if the deal was popular.

  • +1

would this tv be better than an el cheapo soniq, tcl or kogan? for gaming?
    cheers

    • +1

From what Ive read, the box it comes in would be better than Kogan and Soniq. Ive had a Soniq, for a day (took it back because it was shit IMO)… never had a Kogan

      • thx. went and had a gander at one at JB HIFI today. the soccer actually looked pretty decent on it.

        colours were ok.

  • Has anyone received the TV yet ?

    • I just called their support number for the promotion to ask about more specific indications of delivery times. I was told by the agent that Samsung are due to deliver the first shipment of TV's in the middle of March, after which deliveries will commence. So looks like you'll be holding out until are least mid-late March and up to the 20 weeks stated in the T&Cs.

Some of you may find the attached document interesting - http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web… It's a copy of Wolf Blass's notification of exclusive dealing in respect of this promotion to the ACCC.

    Just received this email:

Due to an unforseen popularity of this offer, the delivery of your Samsung 40’’ TV has been delayed. We apologise for this inconvenience.

We are currently in the process of receiving a new shipment of Televisions from Samsung and they are expected in Mid March.

We will continue to update you on the progress of your order and will do everything possible to ensure that your TV is delivered as soon as possible. In the meantime if you have any questions relating to the delivery of your Samsung 40’’ TV please call 1300 xxx or email xxx and quote claim number xxx

  • So, before I take the plunge and get this TV, was looking at reviews and came across this:

    http://www.amazon.com/review/R32G9D1HHDBR45/ref=cm_cd_pg_pg4…

Is this true in Australia as well or is this a problem only limited to the United States?

    • For UA40H5000, the version code is TD01. Can somebody confirm ?

      • @d1713, is this the model of the TV you received from Wolf Blass? Then according to that link, it is a proper Samsung panel.

      That's a great special -40%off plus 10 bottles equal $70 exactly.

  • That's the same deal I used to qualify for the promo. Picked the better wines on offer.

Received a tracking advice on Friday from the distributor advising the TV delivery has been initiated, shouldn't be too long now..

  • First Choice had extra an point email offer for 1500 points spending $50, but it was only up to 29/03/15.
Dan Murphy has the Wolf Blass red label at $6.95…not really good if you do it for the $70 for the TV…you have to buy 11 bottles and spend $76.95
Is the Samsung TV worth the effort?
Do you really have to wait 20 weeks for it?

  • I think the processing people are on a "go slow" at the moment. I put my claim in three weeks ago, and sent the receipt off straight away. It would have taken one or two days to reach them. I rang for the third time today. They claimed they hadn't received my letter yet. Within one minute of getting off the phone I received an email telling me that my claim had been validated. Now I wait up to 20 weeks, but hope that I don't have to.

  • +2

TV arrived today, collected it from the Post Office. 8 weeks to the day since I sent the receipt in. The TV now retails for around the $580 mark since the drop in the dollar. What a bargain, very happy. I think the promo closed yesterday also for those on the fence.

    • Good to hear that :) I didn't take the offer up, but it did seem like it would turn out well despite the nay-sayers!

Enjoy your wine and tv :)

  • +3

Some interesting information once I unboxed it, the model is a UA40J5100AW which looks like the just released 2015 replacement series for the one Wolf Blass were offering (UA40H5000) which was the one I already had.

Same remote, menus, different stand and slightly different shaped back cover. Looks identical as far as picture goes. Whats very odd however is that the new model retails in stores for $984-$999. Makes the deal even better I guess. Hard to believe it would hold at that price for long though.
