$50 eBay Voucher to Use in July with $200 Purchase Sitewide Today (Domestic Purchase Only?)

2720

Similar deal to previous but seems sitewide (ebay Australia) today

Note: According to eBay chat representatives, items bought from overseas seller may not qualify for the voucher offer.

Added 16:55
Seems like even the chat reps can't make up their minds regarding if the purchase has to be from a domestic source only. Some are saying that as long as it's on ebay.au, it should still qualify, and some reps are saying the purchase item/s needs to be from Australia .

Don't forget 2% Cashrewards - http://www.cashrewards.com.au/ebay-australia

    SITEWIDE!!!

    Thanks OP :)

  • +6

    I don't personally think this is a dupe as it is sitewide. Isn't the previous (ongoing) offer only applicable at certain retailers?

    I assume that if you already made a qualifying purchase for the past offer that this one won't apply…

    • Yes. I'd like to know this as well.

    • I'd also like to know.

      Says that it should be possible but to double check.

      I contacted live chat and they had no idea what sitewide hump month was but told me to contact promotions department.

      By contacting "us on 1800322928, so that we can transfer your call to our promotions team, they can surely rectify your concern."

      Hoping someone can ring as I am unable.

    Ok to purchase gift card?

      Purchases of items in any of the following eBay categories are excluded from this offer: Coins (11116), Gift Cards (172,009), Services (316), Cars, Bikes, Boats (9800) and Real Estate (11700).

      • Hm try and find a gift card outside of those categories lol

      • +17

        :( I was so tempted to spend a few hundred thousand for a property today just because of this voucher until I saw the exclusions. Poor form EBay. Poor form

  • Any phone at $200 mark worth getting? Have been looking for one, especially tempted by those Chinese phones posted here recently.

      Maybe see if the 20% off offer in a few days might be better because you get the money off rather than a voucher :) Not sitewide but has all the big retailers :)
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199852

      • Agree

      • Thank you for reminding me of that. Forgot about it. So many ebay deals recently :-)

      • -1

        just tried it now for GPS from GG ebay and got error The coupon code can't be used for your purchase

      • Providing other sellers are not cheaper.

  • Same as before where it is one per PayPal account?

  • +1

    damn i don't have $200 in my paypal account and my cc doesn't play nice with it.

    does anyone know if the payment has to clear today to work? my bank account is linked to my paypal but that generally takes a few days to clear.

    edit: got this is chat
    'It is not mandatory that the payment should be cleared today. If you initiate the payment today, then you are eligible for the voucher. If you still face any issues, please take xxxxxxx as a reference number and contact us back. And we would be happy to provide you the refund'.

  • -1

    Today only?
    So cannot combine this promo with the 20% off starting on 26th?

    This promo is better as it is 25% off, and site wide.

    • +12

      It's not a $50 discount, it is a $50 credit to use in July. The best percentage saving is 20%,and that only occurs if you purchase something for exactly $200 today and then purchase something for exactly $50 in July.

      So the other voucher (if it goes live) in my mind is better as it is a flat discount with any spend and doesn't require 2 purchases. Of course this is site wide which gives it an advantage. All depends on what you are buying.

        • +16

          Spend $250 receive $50 discount. 20%.

        • -5

          @exc3113nce: It says spend $200?

        • +13

          @elcheapoinoz: It's a credit, so you will need to spend another $50 to use that credit.

        • +10

          Its an excellent marketing trick.
          Your total spend is $250, assuming your initial purchase is exactly $200, and you get back $50, thus 20%.
          The actual total saving is 20% but if feels like and looks like 25% because we can all "see" $50 is 25% of $200.
          Another way they could spin it is "spend $200 get 25% to spend next month" (still 20% total discount)

        • -4

          @exc3113nce: So you can't buy something with the $50 credit? you have to spend another $50 to use it?

        • @malouphix: It's like this. Original Price(Value): $250(200 + 50 from voucher). Out of Pocket: $200. so 200/250 is 0.8 which equates to 80% off, therefore making the offer a 20% off instead of 25%.

        • +2

          @King Tightarse: Exactly, nice trick but unless you want to buy 2 items (1 for $200 in June and 1 item for exactly $50 in July) the deal is good, but not mind blowingly amazing like other past eBay deals. I'll be holding the precious (but too often overused) + in my pocket.

        • @rawm: never thought of it that way. For call. You could but eBay US voucher and get your 50 back possibly

        • -2

          discount formula

          DP=RPx(1-d)

          where DP=discounted price, RP=original retail price and d = discount rate

          Your DP = $200 + $50 - $50 (voucher) = $200
          RP = $200 + $50 = $250 (total retail value of the goods)

          200 = 250 (1-d)
          0.8 = 1-d
          d = 0.2 or 20%

          to convert d into interest rate (r)

          use r = d/(1-d)

          r = 0.2/0.8 = 0.25 or 25%

          to test use simple interest rate formula

          FV = PV(1+r)^n

          Where FV=future value, PV = present value or principle, and n = number of periods

          FV = 200(1.25)^1
          FV = 250

          Future Value matches Original retail price.

          How easy is that?

        • @financialwar: Easy? Admittedly I didn't read your whole post but that's because it looks anything but easy… looks a bit like financialwar.

      • Good point.
        Looks like your maths is better :-)

      • Assuming you wanted to purchase a 200 dollar item.
        Scenario 1: 20% saving, you saved 40 dollar
        Scenario 2: 50 dollar voucher.

        In scenario 2, you have 10 dollar more to spend. If we monetize the voucher by buying something we needed anyway at a price we would pay by cash anyway, then we can view the saving as 25%.

        • Nope
          1. Spent $160 + $40 savings
          2. Spent $200 + $50 savings

          Using $250 during 20%
          3. Spent $200 + $50 savings

      • +1

        This deal is only good if you want to buy something that's not available from listed seller for 20% deal.

      • -3

        Bunch of finance/economics rookies.

        Why are you guys even worrying about percentage? Go search up Percentage Fallacy you noobies.

        And you call yourself bargain hunters?!

        You save $50 no matter how much you spend as long as it's greater than $250. Trying to keep that "discount rate" to a maximum of 20% by keeping money as close to $250 as possible is pointless.

        End of the day you always have a +$50 saving. So might as well buy something that would maximum your utility instead of getting something that's $200 and $50 and useless. Oh wait, you don't know what an "util" is, because you never studied consumer choice theory.

        Bloody uneducated economic noobies who falls for the same fallacies such as Sunk Cost and Loss Aversion… Go do a CFA exam and learn something about money would ya?

        • +5

          Why would any lay person do a CFA exam?
          So let me get this straight; you have contempt for anyone who has not followed your exact line of study. That's quite a bedside manner you have there. Couldn't be more ridiculous or pretentious.

        • -3

          @King Tightarse:

          You don't have to study finance or economics to not to sound stupid when it comes to making basic money decisions. Just like you don't have to be a lawyer not to break basic laws, or mathematician to do basic calculations.

          This is not about layman or professional, this is the most rudimentary economic fallacy.

          Look at this way, if ebay say you can buy one item only with 20% discount, then you want to buy the item that provide you with the highest amount of saving, provided you consider the utility it provided also increases accordingly.

          But in this case, the amount saving is fixed at $50, please explain to me what you feel the need to convert the saving into a discount rate?? I mean seriously, all the time you spend on ozbargain must have conditioned you to think everything in discount rate? 5% off this, 10% off that etc. Percentage is pointless, it is how much you actually save (saving = negative spending = gain), which in this case is fixed at $50. Unless you're borrowing money to make these purchases but that's another different story involving Time Value of Money calculations.

          Ps, it's not a marketing trick, eBay give you $50 for free provided you fulfill certain conditions. Your own stupidity (percentage fallacy, or I call it discount count fallacy, or soccer mum fallacy) makes it to be a marketing trick… Just stop buying crap for the sake of "I got XX% discount!!".

        • @financialwar: It all sounds rather phallusy to me

        • @financialwar: Really? This is a casual discussion.

          The reason we are talking percentages is because the discussion started off comparing two deals on the same website, therefore all items will have the same initial outlay. The easiest way to compare these deals is a plain and simple percentage.

          Your soccer mum fallacy has nothing to do with this. Had someone commented that this is an awesome deal as it is 20% off an already inflated price then you might have a valid point, although you should work on your approach. I'm sure you already knew this however as this comment and others you have made have only been done to get people's backs up.

        • @financialwar:
          Here are some of the names and phrases you have called your fellow Ozbargainers in a mere two posts:
          "Bunch of finance/economics rookies
          call yourself bargain hunters
          noobies
          Bloody uneducated economic noobies
          stupid
          Your own stupidity"
          No one really cares, but try not to be too surprised if you aren't a "hit" at the Christmas party.

        • -1

          @michael_123:

          "the easiest way to compare these deals".. Are you SERIOUS? The "laziest and most retarded" you mean?

          Hello, one deal has a max saving of $300, the other max saving of $50. Did you not search up "percentage fallacy" and see how ridiculous this comparison is? Regarding to seller jacking up prices, exactly my point, the variable are not held constant, in economics talk, ceteris paribus condition is not fulfilled. Among many other variables.

        • @financialwar: I am not saying you are wrong, but nothing in the above discussion relates to what you are implying. If someone makes eligible purchases that total $250, your outlay is $200. Plain and simple 20% saving. This is as far as this discussion goes.

          And no, I didn't look up percentage fallacy as a) I already know about it b) it is not relevant in this discussion and platform.

          Completely agree that percentages are very often a simple way to look at things, but this is a bargain hunting website which people from a wide background and education view. Percentages are something which are simple to understand, readily used and in the majority of cases more than suitable.

  • just in time for the wife's bday ;)

      So are you:
      a) spending $200 on her and pocketing the $50 voucher; or
      b) spending $200 on yourself and giving her the $50 voucher; or
      c) spending $200 on her and giving her the $50 voucher?

      • +11

        it's option D) spending $200 on myself and keep the $50 voucher :)

  • can i buy something in the US, but use ebay.com.au?

    also how do we know if it is guaranteed we get the voucher?

    • anyone? just need to know about the US bit. cheers

  • +9

    Just got off the online chat with ebay.

    This is classed as a 'new' promotion, seperate from the 'old' promotion of hump month sale.

    i.e. if you already bought something yesterday/over the last few weeks, with the 'old promotion', and are already expecting a 1st july $50 voucher, you can now effectively get another one via today's site wide 'new' promotion. :)

    Can I suggest that someone get on online chat and ask again, just to be doubly sure?

    • +7

      You could hit redial and put the phone on your other ear 🙏. Thanks :-P

    • so if you buy from dicksmith today will you get two $50 vouchers? one for the old and one for the new promotion?

    • Can anyone else confirm on this??

  • +1

    damn.. hate when these spring up and I can't think of anything I need

    • +3

      Then you switch to anything you want. :D

    • +13

      Then save $200 and buy NOTHING!!!

    • +3

      Best thing to do is if you need anything (even if its just a maybe need), always keep it in your "Watch" list and then a promo starts, boom! You wont kill yourself as you have already reviewed what you need.

  • +2

    Can this stack with the other $50 voucher from selected retailer?

    • Hmm, considering the old promotion is still up on the front page loop, i'd say, jump on ebay chat and ask.

      • 17 . Not to be used in conjunction with any other eBay coupon/voucher.

        I believe that may mean that you get one or the other promotion. i.e. Selected retailers = 1 voucher, other retailers = 1 voucher.

        Don't quote me on that, pls ask ebay chat to make sure.

        • So do you end up with two vouchers or one?

    • +2

      After a 15 minute phone call consisting of verification, being transferred and ebay reading out terms and conditions these are 2 separate promotions and they have advised that 1 transaction required for each promotion.

  • +3

    Very nice find. Thank you OP.

    Q1: Is postage excluded?
    Q2: Buying multiple items from different seller and check out shoppingcart should be ok?

    Thanks.

    • +1

      Q2: Buying multiple items from different seller and check out shoppingcart should be ok?

      I would also like to know the answer to this question.

    • "(Item cost only, excl postage)"

      "9. Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction)."

      • The thing is i believe 9 is in reference to purchases made USING the voucher not purchases to obtain it. If you look at the rules around it (8 & 10) they are about the voucher once you obtain it so i believe that is the context for this comment.

        1. The voucher entitles you up to $50 off the total purchase price for one transaction on eBay.com.au.
        2. Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction).

        So i might try and contact ebay support and see.

        Edit: Yep all the conditions are for USING the voucher (see condition/rule 1), there actually isn't any information for obtaining it other than the step 2 picture and text: "STEP 2: SHOP NOW - Spend $200+ in one transaction." So i need to know what they mean by one transaction, i wonder if having multiple items in my card and processing as payall counts as one transaction (which i think it does) or if that counts as multiple transactions.

        Anyone know how to enter live chat help? I doubt i will receive an ebay response before the offer expires.

        • I just got off the online chat with a rep called amit. He says multiple up to 10 items in one transaction is ok but $200 spend does NOT include postage. Personally, I think he just read the T&C for the multiple items part and made up his own rule for postage!

        • @bfg100k: he's not making anything up about postage

          edit: wait that's referring to the old one

        • If items from one seller, there will be one paypal transaction and one credit card charge.
          If from difference sellers, it will be multiple transactions.
          Not sure how ebay do the tracking.

        • I think it is one PayPal transaction.
          So buying from one seller would be ok, but not from multiple sellers.

      • +3

        me - "I just wanted to know if the $200 spend for the voucher be a shopping cart from multiple sellers, if I checkout all at once?"

        chat - "Yes, you can purchase the items from multiple sellers." "Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction (up to a maximum of 10 items per transaction)."

        me - "and I will still get the voucher for July?"

        chat - "Yes"

        So it looks like you can buy smaller items that add up to $200, if you checkout the cart all at once.

        • Thanks a lot

  • Can we create a ghost account and post a random object for sale @ $200 and pocket $50? Fees associated with selling an item for $200 looks to be 9.9% (~$20), so basically $30 credit to be used

    • hahaha nope, doesnt look like it:

      1. eBay reserves the right to disallow or reverse the issue of a voucher in circumstances where it believes:

        a sale or purchase of any item as part of this offer has not been made in good faith, including where eBay considers that the buyer and seller may be related parties (such as family members or parties sharing the same dwelling);
        buyers or sellers have engaged in collusive conduct or any other conduct which eBay considers unfair or untoward.

  • If I have a discount voucher, can I use that and still be eligible for the $50 voucher?

    • I dont think so

  • thanks op!

  • +1

    Dammit, bought a $300 video card on the 22nd.

  • When they say complete transaction on ebay.com.au, I assume it basically means through Paypal? Darn I can't checkout because the item I'm thinking of buying has to wait for the seller to calculate freight charges ($0 because I'll pickup) before I can complete it with Paypal

  • Anyone know the smallest 4g androidaround 200?

  • Do you have to spend $200 in one transaction?

    • It says "Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction" however I don't think you can buy smaller items that add up to $200 seperately. I wish this were the case, as I need some bike parts that are $60 + $80 + $80.

      • "Multiple items may be purchased in one transaction" wait I am confused isn't that exactly means you can do $60 + $80 + $80 = $220?

        • No, it means if a seller has multiple items, you can order them so you reach $200 i.e. $20 x10 or $50 x4

          However, according to another poster below (see the online chat), I think I can add items to my "shopping cart" and then purchase. So I am trying that now.

  • i'm awaiting chat now, but has anyone tried this voucher with an item they bought prior to today but haven't paid for just yet?

    EDIT - i just chatted online with ebay rep. does not include items already bought. MUST be bought and paid for within the timeframe (ie. today until 11.59pm AEST)

  • Got some toner ink as they are not part of the discounted sellers.
    With the discounted sellers, I will wait for the 20% off on the 26th.

  • +5

    Ebay must really need a few $$ to make the books look better for the financial year with all these promos running ….dont be suckered in and only buy things you were going to any way - these promos are geared towards impulse purchases and making you spend money that would otherwise not be goign to ebay!
