        Well answered ;)

    • I can vouch for the quality of the Romoss sailing 5. IIRC The sense series don't use Samsung cells so I wouldn't recommend this model.

Fyi shipping can take a month.

I'm still waiting for my vr goggles.

    • +2

I have Received all my products from them, Yes its true shipping is about 4-8 weeks, If you have not received your product Contact the Gearbest Rep Here they are really helpful.

      • i might, it tells me there still processing it, hasn't even been shipped yet its been a month

    • +1

Yes Im still waiting on mine too!

    • +4

I forget about orders I place with GB and get a happy surprise when I get home.

    • +1

It does clearly state how long the shipping will take, they do not lie. :P

  • +4

still waiting for my VR goggles…. are these guys a scam site or what? honestly.

    • +2

I havent bought from them but by most reports shipping from them is a test of patience

      • +1

I actually forgot that I ordered then 1 month later they send an email your item has been dispatched.
so I'm guessing it would take 2 months for it to arrive.

    • Mine just arrived today.

      Gearbest shipping is amazingly slow.

      • same crew that "process" snailmail

    • They take ages to ship.. the shipping itself is actually pretty reasonable.

      • +4

        Literally on a ship

        • Even then it's pretty slow!
My job is buying stuff from China and the longest route takes 37 days from Factory to Customer.

        • by canoe

        • +1

Yeah you get 'low ship priority'!

    • Which ones; the plastic ones were less than a month ago, shipping takes 4-8 weeks.

  • +4

I have the romoss Sense 6 and it is great and has been for ages now
On a full charge it will charge both my phones, my 3ds xl, my tablet and still be halfway

goes with me on any trips business or family and its a godsend
I might pick this one upa nd pass the old one onto the kids

My one doesnt have a fancy schmancy LCD screen

    • How long is ages and how is the charge time? GB says 6.5 hours, would you say that is correct?

      • +2

I have a current charge at the moment that I charged to full about 5 months ago and then used to charge a iphone 6 to full. I still have full bars on the powerbank

Charge time sounds about right, I just usually plug it in at night and leave it

The GearBest $AU price is less than the real exchange rate (from $US to $AU), so best to pay in $AU through the site.

Pretty sure it converts back to US$ when you checkout.. so no point even looking in any other currency.

  • +1

    Are these genuine or fake?

I bought a previous Romoss (can't remember where from, but similar type website), and I think subsequently found it to be fake. However it works equally as good - providing 4 solid phone full charges.

    • Same story with me. I got this type of brick several years ago, can't remember where from (meritline? gearbest? bangood?) and I think subsequently found it to be fake too using guidance from several sites.

    • +1

Most likely that's 30,000 chinese mah.

    • Pretty sure that's fake, every picture I've seen from this brand has Romoss written on it, not Power Bank.

    • +4

All of these large power banks use 18650 batteries inside them
the classic xiaomi 10500 type uses 4 in a 4x1 pattern
the newer xiaomi 16000 type uses 5 in a 3x2 pattern with one missing

the romoss equivalent 10500 one uses 4 also but in a 2x2 pattern (so longer but thinner)

this 20000mah one appears to be twice as wide physically so I would assume its a 4x2 pattern.
this fake one above is still the standard 2x2 pattern so its physically impossible to fit that much charge in that small space.

so just be aware that this OP 20000mah one is a big brick - its like 2 of the smaller 10500 ones glued together.

      • This ones shows as a 4x4 pattern on the product page.

        • Sorry, meant 2x4 as per Voter1 has assumed.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if the rating was exaggerated just like those 2000Lumen torches lol

  • How about a solar power bank instead?
Has anyone tried something like this: http://www.gearbest.com/mobile-power-bank/pp_187374.html

    • +1

I'd be concerned about leaving a li-ion/poly battery pack in the hot sun. Heat degrades them.

      • +1

I highly doubt you can fit 48000mAh into that tiny enclosure. I have one of a similar size and only 5000mah.

        • +4

yeh its probably only 4800mah - what you call a chinese typo lol.

Plus these solar ones are REALLY bad - from what I gather they take forever to charge and they never charge to full.

For a real emergency you are probably better off with a hand crank (dynamo)
          something like this
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dynamo-Wind-Up-Torch-Mobile-Phone…

although I've never tested it to say either way if its good or not.
The specs do say its only 550ma rate of charge which is slow; but at least its weatherproof.

    • +2

A solar panel of decent quality would take a week to charge that - a solar panel associated with - "Solar Mobile Power Bank Accompany Your Livelong Trip" should take 3 times that amount of time.

    • Most sane people keep batteries out of the sun.

  • +1

    Any gearbest vouchers?

  • +1

these power banks are pretty useless when all they have is 5 volt USB output.
I've made my own which has multi-voltage output up to about 80 watts.

    • +3

A multi-voltage power bank is pretty useless if all you have are USB-charged gadgets. :)

    • +1

Oh Mr Phoebus, you do go on!

Seriosly though, does your have the ability to charge a laptop? because that is something i could use

  • Not too sure about this one, no mention of a "Sense" series on Romoss's website at all and in the specs there's this " Capacity (mAh): Cell Capacity: 20000mAh, Rated Capacity: 12580mAh " wouldn't that make it a 12580mAh power bank??

    • +4

I think there is 2 ways to report the capacity - xxx mah @ 5v and xxx mah @ 3.75v

this is because the original 18650 batteries inside them are 3.75v and then the circutry converts it to 5v for USB use.

      so in this case its 20000mah @3.75v or 12580mah @ 5v.

You can see here on a xiaomi powerbank they report both mah on the label but the bigger number is more prominent.

      https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7498/15864152647_b1b2fa1cef_b.…

Also note that it says @ 1A usage - so in practice when charging @2A (which the powerbank is capable of outputting - you actually get less

    • +2

Is this really a 20000mAh power bank though? Romoss' website lists a 20000mAh solo 9, but that doesn't have an LCD display.

The closest match I can find for the advertised product is the solo 6 plus. And that is a 16000mAh power bank!

      • I cant speak to if its genuine or not but if its PHYSICALLY twice as big as the old 10500mah power banks then yes obviously its a "real" 20000mah.

From the picture it does look twice as big as the 10500mah ones.

        • if its PHYSICALLY twice as big as the old 10500mah power banks then yes obviously its a "real" 20000mah.

Or, it comes with free sandbags. :)

      • That's my worry, chances are it's a fake

        • +2

You probably have to look up the history of gearbest to see if they have a track record of selling fakes. I have no idea as I dont buy from gearbest because of the slow shipping - not because of fake.

The only other thing I can say is that a lot of the generic fakes are using this romoss type housing with the good fakes printing the romoss label and the bad ones just saying "power bank" on it.

Oh also - having the need for a 20000mah one is interesting as I would think it would be smarter to have 2x of the smaller 10500 ones - that way you can use one charge one or charge both up and bring both of them if you are away from power for a while and i assume it would be a family situation so having 2 physical banks is more convienient than 1 big one?

      • I couldn't find it on there either which worried me, but I found this:

        https://www.sendo.vn/shop/hong-phuc-mini-shop/san-pham/pin-d…

The device itself or manual doesn't specifically say "Plus" but you can see the LCD screen which the non-plus doesn't have. Printed capacity on the device and manual is 20000mah. I think this device is legit.

        • I have no doubt the item being sold by GearBest is authentic. I'm just wondering why GearBest (and Sendo) is advertising it as 20000mAh, when Romoss labels it as 16000mAh.

As you said, the manual and device actually mentions 20000mAh, so maybe the info on Romoss' website is outdated?

        • +1

          @cheapoguy:

The Romoss website makes no mention of a "Sense" only "Solo" power banks and it shows the Solo 6 Plus as 16,000 mah. I just feel like they are a different series that hasn't been put on their website yet. It's not really unusual to find products missing from manufacturer websites. Sendo is showing non-stock photos and it looks pretty legit from them. Mind you a further inspection shows they have the same dimensions which maybe shouldn't be the case.

I'll ponder on this one a bit more.

    • If it can't jump start a car its not enough lol..

    • Looks like a fake Xiaomi 16000mAh powerbank.

    • That capacity is not possible. I wouldn't trust my devices/life with that.

      • +1

        but… it's being sold by walmart*! :)

      • Agree. Looks sus to me…

  • Yes confirmed … these guys have one of slowest postage/shipping I've come across, be prepared to wait a while!

    • I found if you pay the $3 extra for the next level of shipping it only takes a few days. Ordered something from them on the 27'th, shipped on the 27'th, arrived on the 5'th

      • Apologies in advance for the silly question. How do you upgrade shipping options? I went through the checkout process and didn't see it.

        • Not sure, I had the option when checking out, was a ton of different shipping options! Though that was on a $200 flashlight, might give you more options when ordering an expensive item?

      • Is that the Australian Line option? Each time they've downgraded me to regular shipping.

From the description on the link:

"Cloud Grade Efficient Smart Matching Algorithm Technology"

What exactly is a 'cloud grade' portable battery? Sounds like someone in the marketing department threw some buzzwords together to make this product sound awesome.

    • +4

No don't be confused: it's marketing speak for "comes in white".

      • gold!

    • "Cloud Grade Efficient Smart Matching Algorithm Technology"

      I Lol'ed.

      Sounds like they're describing a satellite…no, it's just a powerbank.

  • Any of you guys used a powerbank to continually power an action cam (gopro/sjcam/xiaomi yi)?

Can it be done? I was thinking of mounting an action cam to my mountain bike / motorcycle but dunno if it can work like that.

    • +2

Yup, that's what I do. I power either my GoPro or HTC RE with a power bank attached to my bike for long sessions.

  • +1

Urgh I already have 4 XiaoMi power banks, a buccker and a Momax. Looks like I'm adding a ROMOSS to the collection now :p

  • Just ordered 3! Will have to see how long they take to arrive. :)

  • Does anyone have an exact figure of how many times this can fully charge an iPhone 6plus? Cheers.

    • Considering my battery and power bank, you should be able to get 5 charges at minimum.

    • iPhone 6 Plus battery is 2915mAh so theoretically 6.86106346483705 times.
In reality I'd say somewhere +/- 5 times.
      I have a Samsung S6 with a 16000mAh power bank, I'd say upwards of 4+
To answer your question 4-6 but probably around 5
      Depends on various factors though.

  • CBA is better

    • +3

      Which (power)bank?

      • loll WP

  • Plenty of these on AliExpress for < $20 USD delivered:

    http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=romoss+&catId…

    Scroll through the results.

    • The cheapest Sense 6 Plus I can see in that list is $38.10. Plenty of lower capacities at lower prices though.

      • Ah, okay didn't notice they are a different model.

  • So hard to tell if any are replicas or not. I guess I'll just wait for the people who have taken the bait Then reported the outcome.

  • Bought one, thanks OP. Now I get to play the game of "when will my order actually ship?" :P

  • Dick Smith are showing a Juice Up 2200mAh Powerbank on their website for $6.83 (online only) but when you click on the link to add it to your cart it comes up as $24.98, what gives? http://search.dicksmith.com.au/electronics/Powerbank

    • if you dont have a problem waiting and want something cheap

      buy this:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/18650-Li-ion-3800mAh-3-7V-Recharg…

      plus this
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOT-5V-USB-Power-Bank-Case-18650-…

gets you roughly the same thing and for less than $6.83 too.

YES I know that ebay battery is fake - Im assuming the reported 3800mah is really just 1800mah - If you are really worried about it you can buy genuine japanese batteries but they are around $10 each.
Dont worry I think that dse $6.83 one is not using genuine japanese batteries either,

      • I tested those batteries myself. Got 25% on a 2000mah phone ie. 500mah. It was the first time a Chinese seller has specifically requested I don't leave feedback. I would have been happy to get 1800 but 500 was wow.

        • ok yeh 500ma really does suck - they must have recycled those from the bin.
I have read though that some of the cheap (under $3) batteries are around the 1800mah mark though - but obviously you have to be lucky?

oh hang on - 2000mah phone? oh so you are measuring NETT not gross?
you know there is some loss in the transition process right - even those xiaomi powerbanks dont give you 100% effectivness.
So I would think when you say 500mah its probably closer to 600mah - a bit better but still horrible of course :)

      • Well, alarm bells should really ring when you see they also sell 6000mAh single cells lol
