Evangelism at uni? Acceptable or not?

University should a place of learning, knowledge and reasoning. But at Macquarie University, evangelical Christians are very active, they do this by writing christian and jesus crap everywhere on uni ground in chalk, display jesus loves you signs etc. Christians are the ones that does this, no other religion preaches.

This thread is the reason why I like buddhists's.. I have never met one that even tried to sell me something or convince me.. As long as everyone was at peace they were happy. (non believer here)

You need to go read about Tibetan history. In the past the dailamas were just as evil against the people they ruled.

Good kings don't need fortresses as protection against the people. Dictators and killers always need these sorts of separation from the people. Go check the Dai lamas palace in Tibet and tell me otherwise.

      • Yes I have read up before.. Its hard to know whats true from just looking at the internet. both sides seems to exaggerate & twist the facts (CCP and exile Tibetan government)

Its human nature to have some people doing bad things no matter what religon, what part of the world, etc…

Most people dont realise the chinese gov did the tibetans a favour when they invaded. The previous Dai Lamas really exploited the people.

Goto wiki and see the fortress of the Dai Lama in Lhasa and ask yourself is that the home of a dictator or someone who is loved by everyone.

Shouldn't they just be treated the same as any other group? Think of a uni group that you like at uni and do this thought exercise: would you be wanting the group you support to be banned from doing activities equivalent to whatever you are seeing the Christian group do? If the thought exercise comes back as a 'sure why not' then let them be. Alternatively if you think a group you support doing those kind of actions should be banned than you probably have grounds to complain.

Pretty sad, considering the university was invented by Catholic monks in the high middle ages.

They are a specific development of the "cathedral schools", at which young monks and clerics would study for priesthood, and pick up the full classical education along the way. Universities were (and are) unique in that they deliberately preserve and teach multiple disciplines and schools of thought, rather than merely that of a single teacher.

  • Why single out evangelism? What about all the other groups peddling their rubbish?

    • -4

because religion allows questionable opinions - anti-homosexual, patriarchical, defending sex offenders, establishment of vatican city (and their millions), etc.

      • Opinions of which are no different to other non-religious groups I've come across.

    • There is no other groups peddling their rubbish at MQ. Only the Christians have the audacity and energy to do so.

It's probably easier to just ignore it, that's what I did my whole uni life. Just focus on what you need to get done.

Wow. Two negative options Vs one positive. Bias much?

  • So this is why Whirlpool bans religious-type debates. Nobody wins. :)

(intel vs amd, mac vs pc, atheism vs agnosticism vs religion…)

Because by definition all religious people are traitors to Australia.

Its just a measure of how committed they are, but they are all traitors and should not be given privileges such as tax exemption.

If you say Jesus is your king or you think Shariah law comes before Australian law you are a traitor.

      • No, just no. According to the Bible, authority ought to be submitted to and respected. Perhaps the most widely-quoted and well-known verse regarding this matter comes from Romans 13. God advises us to submit to “governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established” (Romans 13:1). We are further advised in the Bible that rebelling against authority is rebelling against God (Romans 13:2)….the more you know ;-)

        • But, Christians pledge allegiance to the heads of their church who supposedly represent Jesus their KING.

          Thats TREASON.

This is why Catholicism for example was banned in England after Henry started the church of England. THey knew ALL other religions were treason, because as i have said HENRY etc was the head of the CofE.

THis is why a catholic cannot marry a heir to the throne, because by definition that person obeys the pope above the king/queen of England.

  • If you have banknote like this and you think the writing on the top of the building is not acceptable, I would be very happy to accept it.

There is nothing useful in the information provided in that article. Waste of time.

You have these FAKE CHRISTIANS, who don't know one thing about the reals dynamics of true Christianity was ever originally intended to be about, which was about KNOWING TRUTH and BEING FREE as a result of KNOWING TRUTH. NOT worshipping a thing! NOT starting a religion about a man.

The idea of the so-called "Christians", that consider themselves real Christians want to accept this doctrine of Salvationism and want to say belief is all that is required, forget RIGHT ACTIONs, forget GOOD WORKs, you're believing a religion that was invented by Satanist, by Dark Occultist to get people to STAND DOWN and NOT resist tyranny and enslavement because that that's all it comes down too, COWARDICE.

That's NOT how it works people, you've been given FAKE SPIRITUALITY, you've been given FAKE RELIGIONS. I'm about STREET-WISE Spirituality, the kind of spirituality that inspires REAL TRUE COURAGE to ACT, and actually change things in the physical domain. Forget about the hereafter, forget about some other dimensions, forget about other planets, other time lines, whatever. HERE and NOW in the physical domain is where change need to be manifested and if you don’t understand how the laws of morality work, that’s impossible.

I'm no theologist, but Jesus Christ as a prophet/holy man is mentioned in most religious scriptures. In islam it is Issa, in sanskrit it is Krishna. Virgin Mary and John the Baptist are also mentioned. So to blankly say Jesus Christ "did not exist" is wrong. He was not in INVENTED by Christians.

    • -3

Agree. Jesus Christ is made up of a combination of deities from western and eastern religions at time.

Constantine was the ruling spirit at Nicaea and he ultimately decided upon a new god for them. To involve British factions, he ruled that the name of the great Druid god, Hesus, be joined with the Eastern Saviour-god, Krishna (Krishna is Sanskrit for Christ), and thus Hesus Krishna would be the official name of the new Roman god. A vote was taken and it was with a majority show of hands (161 votes to 157) that both divinities became one God.

That purely political act of deification effectively and legally placed Hesus and Krishna among the Roman gods as one individual composite. That abstraction lent Earthly existence to amalgamated doctrines for the Empire's new religion; and because there was no letter "J" in alphabets until around the ninth century, the name subsequently evolved into "Jesus Christ".

        Haha what a joke.
        Down VOTE all you want.

The TRUTH stand AS IT IS whether you accept it or not.

  • At my university, I've mostly only had neutral to good experiences with religious student interest groups. The only interaction I've had with them is the occasional day they give out free food.
However, during an event promoting safe sex and sexual health, we did have quite an annoying character from one of the bible study groups loudly telling people that we should be promoting abstinence instead of safe sex. Otherwise, nothing bad to say.

Most uni students are so hollow that they think greenpeace is a religon.
Is there any use in having three degrees and no job?
