      Hmm yeah it's not online yet..

    Great camera. Worked brilliantly until my SO dropped in the water at the beach. Now I only buy shockproof and waterproof cameras. I paid $300. If you are single this is the camera to get.

      And if married to an ugly wife, what should we get?

    • Guys the cheapest is to get Ear-buds, no listening no issues…

      • +3

        Doesn't solve the ugly part

        • blindfold?

          Beauty is only a light switch away.

          At least you have a wrx to get away quick if you have to

      There's a solution for that it's called a waterproof camera case. If only you were using one of these at the beach would have saved you $300. Amazes me people who buy relatively expensive cameras yet don't buy the necessary waterproofing protective equipment before they use it at the beach over water.

      "This waterproof case will protect your digital point and shoot camera when you are using it at the beach, swimming, kayaking, skiing, fishing, sailing, snorkeling or diving. The case was based on patented design and technology. This transparent and flexible case allows convenient control for camera buttons as well as perfect visibility for the LCD screen."

    Brilliant camera. Used this all around the US and it's still serving me well. It's probably standard nowadays, but the battery life is incredible on these buggers. With low use it will go for weeks (or months in my case, I don't even know where the charger is). I paid around $350 originally.

      The photos this takes compared to my top of the range smartphone are absolutely incomparable. Put a 20x optical zoom on a phone with a sensor 4 times the size and then you may have a leg to stand on.

    • +1

      Not with a 20x zoom like this has, stock lens are maybe 2x. Phones don't come close but are a handy size.

    • +2

      I agree with lgacb08 that smartphones are replacing pocket cameras but here are still some features this pocket camera has which your smartphone probably doesn't have:
      - 20X optical zoom. I have not seen any smartphone with this.
      - optical image stabilization. I've only seen one or two smartphones with this.

        In a real world photography, superzoom has very limited use, unless you go to Watson Bay rock cliff and want to have a peep on those sunbath naked down the beach. It sounds nice to have such feature but in real life, a majority of the time one doesn't go beyond 3x-5x range and that's the reason compact camera manufacturer has been doing it for years, until smartphone camera began to catchup and they started to add this feature to sell their products.

        And such big zoom will be useless without OIS, that's why Sony had to couple them together, otherwise this camera would struggle to sell for even $50. And with current technology (and for a forseeable future) no manufacturer can add optical zoom to 9mm thick phone, and OIS won't even be needed given the small sensor size and the limited situations that smartphone camera can perform.

          Stop stating your own opinion and parading it as fact. Going on holiday I use zoom religiously and some of the favourite photos I've ever taken would not have been possible without it.

  • Will make for interesting price matches!

    • +3

      WX350 has been discontinued, most places won't have any stock left.. Great price though, a lot of camera for that money!

  • Worth getting a waterproof one over this and using as a travel camera. Should be able to find one around this price

    • +4

      The waterproof cameras generally have inferior picture quality and only 4x zoom. Depends how fussy you are with picture quality. For me, if I'm going to bother carrying a camera instead of just using my phone, then I want want a camera with picture quality that is clearly superior to the phone (like my Sony RX100 M2).

        I have the older version of this (http://www.sony.com.au/di-digital-still-camera/range/T-Serie…) and it's been brilliant. Good quality shots, and doesn't look like something from Fisher Price like most rugged cameras. Has put up with an incredible amount of abuse from the three kids and my significant other over maybe 4 years. Would highly recommend as an alternative. (Sadly one of them managed to crack the battery compartment last week so it would no longer be waterproof - I have a newer Olympus, but the image quality is nowhere near as good as the old Sony so plan to buy a new T series before the next trip.) I also take a 'good' camera, but am careful to monitor how it's used, as otherwise it will come back with scratches on the lens and who knows what else done to the poor thing.

      • +1

        I should have said that when I travel, I expect to lose one or two things along the way. Wouldn't want to lose a rx100 (or have it stolen)

      • Image quality from cameras with extended lens generally do take better photos than waterproof cameras. However most waterproof cameras still take very decent photos. However, no matter how good your non waterproof camera is, it's not going to be any good under water.

  • Is the Tripod any good?

  • the camera is 296 on ebay, high feedback seller. not bad for 199

    no aperture or shutter priority … fail

  • Title say DSCWX350 but catalog says DSCWX350B, does the B on the end make it a different product to the DSCWX350?

    • +5

      B = Black

      B = Bargain

    • +5

      B = BUY

    • B = But

      • Great reply, only took you a month & a half :p

  • Doesn't appear to have GPS Photo Tagging, which is a BIG Negative. Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

      Is gps tagging all that important?

      For online share I assume?

      • +5

        No, it's for all those holiday photos when you get back home …"where the hell was that????"

        • Heh, fair enough ;)

    • Actually it might in a round about way. It supports WiFi, and when I use the playmemories app now as a remote for my A7 it embeds the gps location in the image when it is transferred. Assuming that this camera supports that, you could always take a photo using that every now and then when travelling….

      • I had a Panasonic which embedded GPS tags. The problem was it took several minutes after you turned it on the get a satellite lock. By then you've moved on to the next scene. The camera batteries are too small to leave the GPS always on.

        Now some (all?) of the Panasonics that have wifi are actually functional as wifi base stations and transmit to your Pansonic app in iPad, iPhone, Android. That app can do some remote operations and also embeds the GPS tags (optional, I think).

        I think that other cameras with wifi may work similarly.

  • DSE has it for $40 extra, might worth price matching in case you missed out at your local Aldi:

  • 3 more at Aldi Mcarthur, ACT. None at Canberra centre.
