  • Thanks OP, now is the time to find a great deal on canon dslr!

  • Anything good for entry level?

    • 100D is entry level, though if you can justify a 7D or 7DII for your first DLSR then get it as you'll enjoy the features.

      • 100D is nice and compact.

  • Can anybody tell me who the authorised dealers are? I tried looking it up on the Canon site and it only gives me "Cambuy". Would anybody else know if Dicksmith, Harvey Norman or Camera sky be authorised dealers?

    • searching my post code, dick smith, good guys, JB, harvey norman, and officeworks come up on the first page

      • Thanks mate. I must have done something wrong.

And does anybody have any suggestions for a store which has a bargain price Canon M3? or recommendations for a good beginner's mirrorless camera?

        Cheers in advance

        • +1

Sony a6000. If you want mirrorless, you only buy Sony.

        • +1

          @bargainaus:
          Unless you buy Olympus.

        • @bargainaus: Or Fuji. But yes the a6000 is a great camera.

  • Wow another cash back, not long after one just just ended recently (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207219)

    Too bad JB-HiFi (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/168970) and
Teds https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219484) just ended yesterday, otherwise I would have jumped on it.

    • The JB-HiFi camera discount occurs often. Another should occur prior to this cashback off ending.
I made a purchase 17-Sept where they had 15% off + an additional 5% for newsletter subscribers.

You beat me to it. The 6D comes to a very good price for a local brand new stock. If you buy from CameraPro, it will come down to $1449. It normally sells about $1200 used.

    • +1

That's incorrect, it's actually $1649 after cash back

      • You're right.. only double cashback if you buy another item worth $200. I just noticed this…

        • +1

That is easy with a SLR though you justness to get another lens

    • Scorptec has the 6D (body only) for $1719 before cashback. They don't have any canon lenses in stock from what I can see though. It might be possible to get Harvey Norman or another authorised retailer with a decent lens range to price match it.

      • Thanks, but as per the T&C of "double" Cashback you have to spend <$200 on another canon product and has to be in single receipt/invoice.

    • Fellow OZB's I assume some of you may own a 6D, I currently have 550D and its nearly 6 years Old I want to upgrade to a Full Frame and thinking about this 6D, given the 7D MKII reeased recently and no 6D upgrades for ages, should I buy a 6D or 7D MKII (scratching my head.

Thank you for the time and your opinions in this.

      • +1

7D MKII is not full frame. If you want full frame Canon, go for 6D or 5D mark III.

        • Thanks mate

      • I went from 400D to 6D. Don't regret it one bit. Really good camera, and very good price.

        • I went from 500D to 6D. Get excited for a while until I got EOS M3. Once you go mirrorless, you might not want to look back again.

        • @maxdba:

Once you go mirrorless, you might not want to look back again.

And you are saying this after having the worst kind of mirrorless, ever wonder about Sony?

        • @maxdba: I use my camera mainly for video, now. My wife has on Olympus E-PM2, and the difference is night and day. I'm sure another lens would help with the E-PM2, but one of the main reasons I bought the 6D was having a full frame display for its low-light handling. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that full-frame sensors handle high-ISO noise much better than most mirrorless sensors (although I understand that you can have a full-frame mirrorless, I don't believe they were available when I bought my 6D).

        • @bargainaus: A6000 is great, but EOS M3 is not that bad. For focusing speed, Canon is slow. For image quality, they are on par with each other. If I choose Sony. I will have to go for A7 series, which means I have to spend lots of time and money in selling and buying lens. I eventually choose Canon as there was a good deal a while ago, plus I could continue to use my other canon lens with cheap adaptor. I am saying this because I have both 6D and EOS M3 (with 4 EF-M lens) at hand. It is super convenient to carry around, sacrificing maybe about 20% image quality.

        • @alizzan: I agree, for low light handling, full frame is far better. Also for 6D, you could shoot in RAW with magic lantern installed. The only thing missing here I think is an efficient autofocusing system from 70D in Canon full frame.

  • Is it correct in my understanding that for the cashback to be doubled, you'd need to buy a second Canon product in addition to the camera body?

    • Yep. First you need to buy an eligible camera, then spend an extra $200+ on Canon products to be eligible for the double cashback.

Edit: I forgot to mention both of the purchases have to be on the same transaction from the way I see it.

    • You are right…… I didn't even notice that. How sneaky… Based on the terms and conditions:

Eligible Product = Camera Body or Standard Kit
Single Cashback = Purchase of an Eligible Product
Double Cashback = Purchase of an Eligible Product and $200 of other Canon product/s, in the same transaction with a single receipt

OP may need to highlight this on the description?

      • +1

The Canon 24mm f2.8 is just over $200 from alot of places, great lens.

  • +1

A lot of smaller retailers will sell Body & Lens combo as seperate items, so the kit lens actually gets $200 off. Keep an eye out for these deals :) (They do it every year this cashback promo happens)

    • Do you remember any of the retailers who did this last year? I'm having some trouble finding all of the authorised Canon retailers.

    • +4

Read the terms and conditions. I recalled that a couple of weeks into last year's double cashback promotion, Canon tightened the terms on eligibility of double cashback for kits.
      https://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Personal/Products/Special-Off…
"For the avoidance of doubt, the purchase of any items forming a standard Canon kit constitutes a single eligible product (e.g. an EOS 700D Movie Twin Kit comprising an EOS 700D body, an EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, an EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and an LP-E8 battery is a single Eligible Product). The Promoter reserves the right to reject any cashback claims where standard kits have been split in store in order to tamper with the Promotion. For a detailed list of standard Canon kits (constituting a single Eligible product) see the end of these Terms and Conditions. This offer applies while stocks are available. Availability of some models may be limited."

  • Excellent deal.

OP or Mods here is a list of eligible cameras.

If anyone is after a good point and shoot the G7X is very good

    • Thanks. Will update the post later in the evening.

  • any good deals like nikon d3300 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218965)? i missed out on it.

  • Not sure if I should grab this deal on a 700d or wait till Boxing Day? Please advice :(

    • Definitely look at teds eBay sale.

  • can you buy two cameras, get $200 off each and the extra $200 for spending over $200 extra? I'm sure theres something in the T&C's against it…

EDIT - damn, answer is no.

  • Is anyone buying the kit? I am after a lens. Happy to share double cashback..

  • Question about combining this with the eBay 20% tech frenzy:

The T&C state that, in order to get the double cashback, you must "also spend at least an additional $200 or more on any other Canon product/s in the same transaction with a single receipt".

But it's not clear (to me) if that $200 would be before or after the eBay 20% off. i.e., if I buy an additional $200 Canon product, then get 20% off, will I still get the double cashback? Technically, I haven't spent $200… Or have I?

    • Yeah I'd like to know this too. For people who have purchased from the tech frenzy already, does the tax invoice have the before or after discount amount?

      • +1

The eBay 20% offer ends at midnight tomorrow. I'm planning on phoning Canon tomorrow morning to ask about this. I'll let you know what they say.

  • Ted's eBay has 6D for ~$1400 after cashback and 7D ii for ~$1500 after cashback. Both excellent prices.
