I go on an overseas holiday and then these sales happen… Fu all :) jk

    • +1

      Overseas holiday is better.

    • buy and claim TRS

      • How…am already overseas

        • thought you ARE going on one :)
didn't know you were already gone

        • @Designate:

didn't say that im going on a overseas holiday! Present tense rather than future :p

  • so no dice tomorrow?

    • +2

If you are free might as well go see what is on offer but otherwise I don't think there will be else other than what is left over. The hype created by media is false imo because they are stating deals go live this saturday but it has already been active since the beginning of the week. The sale is strictly on end of life lines so if there is no stock left on those limited items then there won't be anything left to sell at low prices. I'm just saying what makes sense to me but anything could be possible.

  • I was sure that I had missed out on all the deals still went to highpoint David Jones at 7:30pm and they had a few Bose headphones on sale. Nothing extraordinary. Wasn't keen on buying them. Then saw the sales person bringing out 2 new Bose sound touch. model 20 and model 30 series 3. Asked about them and was told that they not part of sale, still the nice sales person asked me to wait so that he can scan them for me to be sure. Both the models scanned for 399. The sales guy told me that is a real good deal for a brand new series 30 and he would buy it if I didn't take that. So @ 8:00 pm ended up buying a sound touch 30 series 3 for 399.

Can confirm that there was just one sound touch 20 series 3 left at store that was also scanning at 399. Ps - they had got a cinemate left as well but that was scanning at full price.

  • Grand final day tomorrow!
Give Walmart Black Friday a run for its money…..if there are any deals?

    • +1

I suspect there won't be any.

  • Has anyone else noticed they are really trying to push extended warranties during this sale?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure they always do it regardless.

    • Got a PS4 on the first day, and the person that served me was pushing it real hard. I felt bad for repeatedly saying no thanks because they had held the console for me after I'd called up a few hours earlier.

      • +3

Heheheheh, whenever I get extended warranties offered to me.. I used that gem from the checkout

"So what does this extended warranty offer me that I dont already get under the Australian Consumer Law"

Usually takes the wind out of their sails..

      • One of the reasons they push you to purchase extended warranties is because that's 100% gross profit to Dick Smith. It does not cost Dick Smith anything to purchase and sell you the extended warranty.

      • just make it awkward by repeating no while talking in a monotone

    • +1

I'd say it's like Maccas in the US trying to push an upsize on your meal. It's just to make a few extra dollars from you, think of it as another purchase which they should be pushing in regards to the whole point of the sale.

  • Can't wait until the Grand Saturday. Just want to return some craps I bought during the week.

  • +1

So many people today asking for info on the big sale tomorrow. The poor staff were repeating themselves over and over that it had been on all week.

By now if anything big was happening they would have had the price lists/info already to prepare for tomorrow. Someone would have leaked something or the employees would look more stressed than they already do.

Would love to be proven wrong and be surprised by something big tomorrow but I don't see it happening.

    • -1

Meh… staffs receives no sympathy from me. They get first dibs on the products on sale and they work in retail so it's expected of them to deal with customers asking them about the sales. We shouldn't be putting up with shitty customer service.

  • +1

Is Saturday being discussed any where else in the forums or is this the most up to date information on what's happening?

    • +1

Someone needs to start a new thread

      • Basically a new deal with the title "DickSmith Saturday Sale: 60-70% off Audio, 30-70% off Blu-Ray Players & PVR" would probably be accurate but I don't see it getting much besides negs as the mass amount of people who actually think the sale STARTS Saturday would far outweigh the stock availability of such deal.

        • +1

That's just it, it's not a new deal post then. It'd be the same sale.

          Let's just wait n see

        • @Spackbace: Good point, I'm looking at my email from Dicks where it says "Hurry Thursday Only" and we all know how that turned out ;)

Thanks for keeping things updated man! We shall wait. :)

        • @4892:

Looks like same old same old lol post unexpired

  • +1

Maybe a mod should create a new thread, create a link here, and then close this one to future comments, just to keep things organised…

    • If someone finds a sale tomorrow, it will get a deal post. If it's the same 'mammoth sale', I'll just unexpire this post :)

      • That's true, fair enough.

      • Well looks like the sites been updated with those 2 days only online deals and the mammoth in store sale banner is still on rotation.
I think if it's still up by the time stores open you could unexpire this deal :)

        Day 6: The Reckoning.

  • I'm still salty that I couldn't get a canon 700d :( I went searching the whole week back and forth and nothing to my avail. However, I went to the move store just outside where I work and picked up some cheap headphones. Asked the manager about the camera and she did say it was for 249 but out of stock everywhere! I wish I knew about move being related to DSE on tuesday!!! dang!

Though, I will come back tomorrow during my lunch break and have a peek at what's on.

    • +1

Don't believe the whole "sold out everywhere", people are still picking up stuff that has been missed from the start of the sale. Never give up hope! There could be a little gem hidden somewhere, check the display cabs, behind the posters they hang in the glass, compartments underneath display units, you never know :)

      • +2

Those who break in to the staff's house are laughing……

        • +2

Nope, all the staff I spoke to have already flipped their stuff, very detailed stories too.

      • There's still hope as I found Philips Soundbar tonight for $29. It could also be misplaced.

      • You are right
Scored bose t20 yesterday and lifestyle 535 today
Staff said it was lying in the back of store

  • Any oZbargainers Sydney / Melbourne gonna camp out? Wanna report back on what u guys find this morning?

    • I'll swing past when they open and report back. Unlikely there will be anything new/good though.

I think their PR department just screwed up the dates of when they announced this properly. Or perhaps thought there would be less interest so far.

      • +1

With TV advertising for daily deals in store, I'd say this was highly planned a while ago. Making people think it wasn't was a stroke of genius.

The chaos & few great deals whipped up a bit of hysteria usually associated with the old Boxing Day sales, except this time DS had it all to themselves.

Outcome… Old stock cleared. People will buy things they would otherwise not consider, simply because others are buying. And DS gets prime media coverage for free. But they've positioned themselves as the bargain basement electronics outlet.

        • +4

I agree. If you were to step back and analyse everything you would see the majority of "Mammoth" bargains are limited to display stock that is generally well used, old stock up to several years old and just general items that you probably wouldn't normally go out to buy without the hype.

The beauty of it is that everyone here is highlighting the best of the best, tales of unbelievable scores that are actually genuine. These items are generally the ones that stores had 1 or 2 of and that was it. I am seeing a lot of posts about display stock and stock that has been used but ok. The loss on such items as the $150 XB1 consoles that they did for 1 day and various other genuine bargains is enough to get people frothing and telling their mates.

I saw managers hyped up more than some customers and the amount of ticketing and paperwork being done was crazy, employees starting to get ready for the next wave before they had even finished that day.

The marketing team pulled off a fantastic hype fuelled event that the majority of the country is lining up for today.

You are basically walking into a cash converters with a big Dick Smith sign on the building.

          Well played dick, well played.

        • +1

          @4892:
Its always easier to understand with hindsight, as you say. Its human nature to brag about what you've brought back from the hunt, which entices others to search out bigger trophies.

But it's a little embarrassing knowing we've been used by DS to create the hype. I feel so dirty ;-)
          [But that's good marketing!]

Still I'm happy with what little I bought in a few hours at 90% or more off RRP - but its old stock. Although a Blue-Ray recorder with PVR I bought probably won't fit my requirements.

  • +9

    First here
Nothing on system new from guy in store shaking head through glass front door… Been first last 3 days…. Unless it gets listed at 9am?

    • Generally they get the print out the day before. That's how it has been so far, so unless the powers that be at head office are waiting until 9am I think it will just be whatever is leftover from before.

Do keep us updated though, thanks :)

    • Which ds are you in?

    • Good work PLANT - you are our man on the ground.
      Keep us posted.

  • +2

      • +1

So the whole "It starts Saturday" effect is real!

  • +2

Flying solo at Dse Warrawong, although a few people starting to rock up. Can't see any new items on clearance from outside. Was hoping for some clearance TV's to re-emerge, but looks unlikely.

    • +1

      keep reporting…

      • +1

No new additions that I can see, definitely no TV's added.

  • +2

First one here in line at chirnside, now 20 people emerge from their cars…

  • +3

flying to melb to see if anything is on sale. Ill be there in 2 hours. I will report back, hope its worth my time.

    • +1

Stores will be empty by the time you reach here….

  • 9am, and it begins….

    • +1

And I'm still in bed, yawn ;-)

      • +1

Stay there..not worth wasting your time visiting dicky..

      • +1

Yeah that's what the Ozbargain troops are for, on the frontline relaying information back to us still in bed, waiting to see if it's worth getting up… Thank you troops!

        • Thinking if i should venture out to any dicky..near by is 5 mins drive…

        • @pyramid: I'm still waiting to hear what happened to the dude in line with 40 other people. Sale or no sale, that's gotta be an interesting sight.

        • @4892: Looks like he is already in-store and hunting for bargains…

        • @pyramid: It's been 8 minutes! Maybe they are busy scoring deals!!

        • @4892: Looks like its worth sitting at home…and reading OZB comments..

        • @4892:

There was nothing new if you're wondering.

      • If staying in bed was a bargain, I'd vote for it.

Saved me money, time, & frustration - so a great deal thanks to those who posted the disappointing details.

Still playing with my Dick deals from Wednesday πŸ˜ƒ

        • +2

So basically you are telling us you are in bed playing with your dick………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….deals.

        • @King Tightarse:
KT, are you saying I'm a (profanity)? 😠
I can always rely on you πŸ˜€

I just set the jokes up… Thought someone might appreciate a Dick joke in the morning, but didn't want to be seen as a Dick making it. πŸ˜ƒ

I never knew you can't say (profanity) on Ozbargain!
          (profanity) (profanity) (profanity)

        • @Infidel:
Oh yes, many Ozbargainers were in bed thinking about Dick today.
And not just the ones from Sydney.

        • @King Tightarse:
I'm more a hands on type of guy πŸ‘‹ πŸ˜€

  • I'm glad the east fokes have 3 hr head start on me. If no specials I'm back to bed. Thanks east coast

  • +1

Unless new 'old' stock arrives at my local stores or they actually discount current models of TVs, PVRs etc there is nothing worth buying today as its all gone.

Tuesday was the best day followed by Wednesday morning…

  • +1

Nothing new on special here regional NSW.

  • someone please confirm if the stuff had been further discounted?

    • +1

Not at Dse Warrawong, same prices as previous days

      • scanned the same or just had same stickers?

        • Didn't scan anything as was same stock, but staff said prices as marked. Was clearance price labels. Sorry, that's as much as I know as I already left Dse.

Edit: Actually I was mistaken, the wife bought one phone case, was labeled at $3, scanned at $3.

        • +1

@Baltoski: The stuff are the same price as yesterday. Still a few cheap stuff if you look carefully.

  • Busy here…. Those juice up power banks again best deal was?
    Xl 16000 but 1A $25
    Kaiser Baas 11000mha 2A $20

  • +1

Nothing new in Melbourne city to report. As most of us suspected, it's all gone.

  • Nothing special on Liverpool. Heading home now

    • Did you see anything worth noting?

  • Nothing new here at Northland. By 9am there were like 60 people there. A massive letdown. The amount of "nothings in sale" and sighs was depressing.

    • 60 ppl, wow… Glad I stayed home.

  • fountain gate - lots of people standing round looking for non existent specials

    • Similar at Knox City. ~70 people at opening, no specials, no staff in fact. They opened the store then retreated out back, leaving a lot of people standing around wondering what is going on.

  • i have been oversea. Anything left at Fairfield? Anyone been there in the last day or so?

    • +1

there were some cameras yesterday arvo - 2x different waterproof = $100 and at least 2x different pocket mini = $25

      • Thanks. Looks like I am too late.

        • I went there before today and the cameras weren't great models anyway.

  • Thanks everyone for reporting in. I might still check out the local in half an hour or so (this bed is comfortable), will check in with an update.

  • Yeah went to Broadway and Marrickville… not a real deal in sight…unless you want 10 dollar selfie sticks. Most electronics are cheaper online.

  • A lot of grand parents waiting outside, so sorry.

  • $2 soda stream 500ml syrup and $3 lavazza 10x capsules

    • Don't forget to check the best by dates on the coffee capsules before buying! Some stock has been on display for a while.

      • LavazzaMostly 30/11/2015 some earlier

Sodastram Oct 2015 to Feb 2016

I guess the capsules are no good.

M238 mouse $15 slight cheaper than other retailers

        • Another Dick deal on old stock :-(

Fresh stock of Lavazza pods would have date early 2017. Old pods lack the flavour (isn't that why you buy coffee), so don't bother. Those have been sitting around for almost 2 years!

Lavazza recently sent me 480 free pods in promo with Feb 17 expiry date.

HN sold me the most expensive Lavazza pods at full price - all expired. Just got email to pick up new stock to replace those.

Time for a morning coffee β˜•

  • My plan of attack in seq is to hit up stores that didn't have any sales for the past few days. Best of luck fellow ozbargainers.
