This will most likely cause a further backlash against their brand.
Sale was all over the media and it's a total fizzer. Thousands of disappointed people all over Australia. Given the amount of hype generated they could have actually turned the business around with this sale. Remember the Target clean out and revamp? They needed happy people to walk out with big bargains TODAY and then tell others. They let the biggest bargains go before anyone knew - played their best hand too early. Now everyone will tell their friends and family that it was a total waste of time and that Dick Smith "sucks".
Management handled this like total spastics.

    • Agree. It's Literally a joke that they started a few days earlier before the Saturday. I managed to snag a few bargains on Thursday thankfully, so this isn't a "I didntbgrt anything" comment, but it really should've been organised better. Their management is in shambles.

      • Right.
They should have teased people along like a good retail flirt with promises of crazy prices and shown some examples. Maybe release limited quantities here and there to prove it - then shot their load on Saturday. Would have has more news coverage probably $50 50" TVs etc running out the door.
It could have been played so well. They basically had free advertising from ACA, news etc.
Management seem to have panicked after their share value nosedived.
Monkeys would have made a better job of it.
        Total spastics.

I happened to see a lot of elderly people looking at average deals and buying them thinking that they snagged a bargain. Saw this old lady purchase a demo laptop that was clearly over the price of a new one. Saw people getting items with "Our Price" on them thinking they were sales but were full price.

I wonder how much money Dick made back by duping people with some "sales" and with those severely overpriced cables.

    • +1

You meant those $50 Hdmi cables are only worth $2? :)

      • Yeah there were heaps of $10+ cables and a lot of people buying them. A lot of iPhone cables for $5+ too. A lot of junk being sold to cover some of the clearance.

  • Any DS staff here who can post sale price list?

  • +1

Nothing in Bondi Junction. An ex-display galaxy note 10 inch tablet (2013) that has been $299 discounted by $100 or so that has been there for the last few days. Nothing new, no further discounts. Bunch of cables (iPhone 4?) for a $1 each about three 40 AA battery packs ($8 each). 3x Philips entertainment streaming $20 (from $80) but those are useless if you have an android TV or console. Nothing worth it, ex-display is pretty fairly/fully priced IMO and the rest are deals but pretty much worthless (people have reported on here the batteries leak acid, cables seem for obsolete products).

    What a sad end…

If they had a crazy weekend sale starting today it would've been good fun, however it seems most of the Gumtree flippers who don't have jobs are the real winners and got in on Tuesday along with staff.

I really have no respect for this store…

  • I said stuff Dickies and went to DJs instead

Picked up a 2tb Toshiba for $69 and
    2x Logitech drive+ mounts $12

    That was pretty much it

    • Which DJ?

      • +1

        Mac square NSW
But really its just small stuff like phone cases unfortunately

  • +18

Just wanted to say Thank you to all those who made the effort to go out today and reported back. That's the bargain spirit.

    • +2

Agreed! Thanks all, saved me a half hour drive :)

    • Is the last pic from Nunawading? More people waiting today than when I was there in line on Wednesday. Much better deals the, oh the good old times.

    • +1

      Poor bastards!

      • +1

I feel bad for the kids in those photos. :-(

        • +2

"But mum, you said we would be getting a new TV today for Christmas"

          So sad :(

        • lol my son scored a new ninja turtle figure for behaving himself while we shopped at dick smith a few days ago. we got lots of bargains and he got his turtles, good deal all around!

    • They must have come out the same way they went in - empty handed

Looking at the camera. What a catch!

      • Not that hot, and he also chews his fingernails.

        • Bahaha! Didn't even see him. Going over the photo again i got a good laugh when I found him chomping down.

One of the first to get in, went straight to the Dysons and grabbed a v6 animal and v6 absolute, one other guy grabbed both remaining v6s, thought they'd be 70% off…

    Scanned at $899 and $599 at the registers…… :/

  • I personally will go and check Monday again. If there is any stock left in warehouses that's being shipped out to stores it prob would not have arrived before Monday.

    • My guess is any stock delivery will be current model stock.

They've gone to all this trouble to write down ancient stock, freeing real estate for prime profit making product. Filling floor space with more old stock would defeat the purpose of the stock clearance. They need to make profits now to offset the loss.

Monday is reportedly the day staff can legitimately buy sales stock, so don't like your strategy.

      • "Monday is reportedly the day staff can legitimately buy sales stock, so don't like your strategy". Plenty of sales stock has already been bought by staff along with transfers to other staff who want a camera, console etc. "Legitimately" is a key word ;)

        • Correct so that may be the day where some items reappear magically. You never know. It's not like I will go to each and every store, just some that stock items I'm generally interested.

Some display items may also magically be no more on display and become ex display that day.

        • +2

          @ahara:

          reappear magically on gumtree

          Fixed it for you

  • Bought 10 min ago Galaxy Tab S 8.4 149 dollars in indooropilly, the last one.

    • It is just the S tablets on sale right, not the A tablets?

      • I saw A tablets (two different sizes) but i don't remember the prices. The A is better than the S ?

        • The A is not on sale and its not as good as the S model, id say clearance since S2 was released

        • Not sure, might be newer so probably.

        • @Noonoo: It was on sale, just two, they stay may be five minutes. There were also a tab 3.

        • @Jihawk:

Nice if it was on sale, was not at my DJ's

Myself I wouldnt pick up a Tab A or Tab 3… but for general use like browsing, ebay, social media … should be good

I use mine for reading a lot of Comic Books I preferred the better screen

        • @Noonoo:
Same for me, are you using an app for the comic book or you just buy it on the play store ? : )

        • @Jihawk:

I use a fair few things

Perfect Viewer is vry good and free!

But I also use Comixology for alot of my digital stuff

        • @Noonoo: Thanks ! :)

The guy at dick smith yesterday serving me was bragging about how he scored a 50" changhong LED for $209 on Tuesday

The guy at David jones was telling me that all the staff get first dibs on stock so he had stocked up. I asked if he bought a cheap TV, and he replied.. "Well I didn't really need one so I didn't."

    • +1

i wouldnt boast about a 50" changhong if i was him ….. i think dickies won in that exchange

  • Same stuff as on the last 3 days, some aee s71 for 129 at warringah

  • Time to visit DSE as early birds must have vanished by name…

  • Checked out Runaway bay, southport and Helensvale, nothing really to buy. Happy that I took advantage of the tues-thurs deals. Sad to see so many people leaving DSE empty handed and confused. Staff rude today as usual. Called up DJ in Robina and the person on the phone was happy to tell me that all the TV's on clearance were bought by staff. At least he was honest and saved me time.

Not much of a bargain but funny though:

I spotted 2 Black XL Cartridges for my printer on sale - Normal Price at DS $65 Purchased $5

    Total Cost $10

    Profit $20 + 2 Free Cartridges

People, be careful of the Soda Stream syrups. Ones I've seen have been expired. Wouldn't be a problem if they were the old sugar-only based ones, but these are the 'low sugar' ones with artificial sweeteners + small amount of sugar so it doesn't taste crap.

  • +1

Normal pricing at camberwell, Vic with loads of junk on sale

  • +2

Couple of extra things out at Indro today. Few new speakers and a Sony sound plate with blue ray for $89 down from over $300 they reckon. Just bought some stocking filler things today.

    • Do you know how many there were and at what time? Doesn't seem like a bad deal

  • +2

Just in dick Smith Hollywood plaza SA. They have -

55 inch jvc UHD TVs for 899 (about 3 in stock)
Motorola moto g unlocked for 89 (1 in stock)
Polar ft4 pink for 49, and the male colour for I think 20 more
    Fitbit flex red for 49

Got myself a Kaiser bass x80 for 69, last one. Also got a Logitech Bluetooth speaker in yellow down from 60 to 20.

Loads of ink cartridges left, and they've been much better than other stores at advertising the prices.

    • Picked up the action camera as well.
It was 99 a couple of days ago

      • That might be the x100 - next model up is 99. I saw they had one of them sitting on the counter, not sure if it was being held for someone or not.

        • X100 they were selling for $25 when i went yesterday, i decided to go to JB Hifi and price match office works and scored it for $19..in black too.

          X300 scanning at $99 yesterday

        • @nairdajun: nice one!

        • @nairdajun:
          Hmm
          whats the difference?
          Can you upload the receipt?

        • @mmd:

Just show them this link, and let them know that officeworks is clearing them all out. http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/logitech-x1…

check stock of the officeworks close to you online, so you can tell them that they have stock. The people at the JB i went to didnt even bother calling up, the manager just approved.

        • @nairdajun:
lol, i thought u were talking about the action camera. There is a model called x100
          Bluetooth speaker does sound tempting

        • @mmd:
Me too - confusing product models! I guess I got an x100 for 23 then

  • Absolute rubbish .. Time waste

  • Miranda and Hurstville DSE - Don't bother

Dick Smith Gawler Place Adelaide. Canon MX926 Printer. Cheapest I have seen is $110. Picked it up for $69 less the 10% extra on DS Gift Card so $64 total. Pretty happy with that :)

    • Well done. The Coles next door has heaps of dse gif cards. Did u notice any Samsung phones on special

      • No sorry. Only went in for the printer.

        • no worries thanks,

  • are all display ipod touches on sale for $49?

    • No, not everything on display is for clearance

The clearance component could well be a ipod gen 4 or something like that, that has been sitting there for ages

If they have recently put a ipod gen 6, id probably say no.

But the only way you are gonna know is to ask them to scan it.ask them if that display one is available and to scan the actual box for that item

  • Went to chadstone ds and DJs nothing really except for a guy who wanted a brand new iPad mini for $99. Picked up go pro skeleton for $9 Down from $60 and move at nareewarren has some Bose in ear for $40 and the others with inline mic for $60 picked up 2 pairs

I got a dual usb car charger 2.1 or 2.4 amp for $2 at move Adelaide. Came with a iPhone 4 cable, useless but the charger is the main bit.

  • Soldering iron t2000 at parramatta DS $30 was $89. Was one left if anyone wants it. I know a few peeps were talking about it yesterday.

    • Was a few in Bendigo store, was nearly going to pick one up to replace my $15 ebay one. However the ebay one still works so passed on dicks offer

  • Dicky at nunawading still has lots of move cables 30pin for iPad/iPhone for $1.
Right far end of the store.

I went to Chatswood on Thursday and got an iPad 2 16Gb wifi (no boxes, but never set up) for $29. I will use it as a photo frame. Thank you OP.

(My subsequent visit to Top Ryde late yesterday afternoon has not yielded any results. Except for the sales guy to try to sell me a $199 Acer 2-in-1 tablet with 4 extra years of warranty for $110. Sometimes I wonder…)

  • +1

Well I was just told in the face that staff have put Apple items at the back for themselves. And that from a manager at DS Nunawading. Don't have a major issue with it although not happy but I understand how they feel. But no need to brag about it.

Seems I was wrong with my previous comments.

  • Was able to purchase a boss cinemate 130 for 799 dollars .impulse buy ! Will I regret ? Don't know .. Thanks to many who have been so informative on deals and to the boss of this original post !

    • :( I want one but some rude asshole snatched the last one
