  • Can't go wrong with the 40 inch for $629. Is this after the 10% as well?

    • Yeah m8, prices are with 10% off, remember extra back with cashrewards too :)

    • $629 for a 50Hz set…..

  • I want to get myself a Christmas present, anyone tried this tv?

seems like they jacked up the prices - for eg the purchase history on the KDL48W700C shows they last sold for $898 where as now they $995 (minus 10%)

    • Probably a catalogue deal, they only last a week most times or were price matching someone

dodgy… Wait for Boxing day sales imho..

  • Can get http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dick-Smith-39-5-Full-HD-DLED-TV-/… for $270? Would it be better value?

    • +1

grabbed this TV a few months ago for $250 (during a DSE 'coupon' roulette period) - a pretty decent second TV for bedroom etc; in reviews people complained about tinny sound but otherwise pretty good but not even close to Sony quality .

The refresh rate of x8000 and w700c series are both 50hz only.

If you prefer 4k, go x8500.
If you eant Fhd, go w800c.
They have 100hz + motion technology.

    • The problem is they dont have 60, not 50xsoftwarex2

    • x8000 has motion technology at 200hz, it also supports 60hz video signals, the exact same that x8500 support. The signals coming in are always 50hz or 60hz and going beyond this is purely software based, in the case of 100hz TVs this generally means it supports 3D where two 50hz streams alternate to create the effect. Otherwise x8000 does 200hz motion smoothing and x8500 does 800hz motion smoothing, which is just inserting frames between the real frames of the signal.

100hz only kicks in when watching 3D.

So noRotation, are you saying that for the average hen and rooster, who aren't interested in 3D, there is no advantage in 100 hz over 50? (Sorry for question from a techno-challenged)

        • Yep, unless you are watching 3D, your 100hz TV will be playing videos at 50hz anyway. Invest instead on a nicer sofa and some good popcorn.

        • +1

There is a difference between 100Hz+ panels and 50Hz for non-3d content, especially when watching fast paced sports such as football/tennis/racing etc… The refresh rate of the panel is different to the frame rate of the content, and a higher refresh rate will give smoother perceived motion.

For gaming or movies, it won't make a huge difference.

EDIT: As trent86 says, some people can tell the difference while others can't. The best option is to bring in some standard content on a USB drive and play it in store on one of the display TVs.

        • @NoRotation: thank you

        • @donnot: many thanks

        • @donnot: Hmm I see, from what I can tell 100Hz TV still plays 50Hz content on 50Hz but a 100Hz TV can end up smoother because they will interpolate at higher frequency and generally more expensive TV's have better interpolation software. The consensus seems to be that you can notice a difference between the 200Hz motionflow and 800Hz motionflow. Whether or not the difference is worth the 30% difference in price I guess depends on how intensely you like watching sports.

        • @NoRotation:

Yeah, as far as I know, the motionflow 200 is used on native 50Hz panels (panel refreshes 50 times per second, regardless of what content is played or any interpolation-afaik), whilst the 800 is used on 120Hz panels. Correct me anyone if I'm wrong though-can't find too much on it. Definitely worth playing some content to see if you can tell the difference and whether it's worth the premium-some won't be able to notice watching sports on 50 vs 100.

Try to watch a football match or play winning, you will find the different between 50hz and 100hz.

        • I watch AFL Like a freak, every match and also game online on a 50hz tv and notice no difference to my 100hz in my lounge room, some people can tell the difference and some can't like me, can't speak for 4k content though

  • if this is the android version, there's so many mixed reviews on this thing. some say it's great, others say the android ecosystem is crap and laggy and slow.

hard to tell with some people because they can be hard to please.

    • My smart Sony is pretty slow.too cumbersome to use smart features

    • The 49" is definitely not the new android version mate. I almost bought this one the other day for $995 thinking it was the android version. And stopped.

      • Na mate. This was before that. I almost bought it thinking it was the android version! I am trying to find the cached link.

  • Own the 40". Good picture and surprisingly good built in sound quality compared to my previous Sharp Aquos 40". The biggest plus is the Netflix button on the remote, very useful as we use it 80% of the time

    • A Netflix button on my Sony remote would be awesome!

  • What is the difference between the Kd49x8300c and KD49X8000C ?

    • First one is an Android OS based tv and the latter is just a smart tv. And the first one is a recent model. Not sure about refresh rates

    • Also, motionflow "XR 200" in the 49X8000C, which I understand to be a 'real' panel refresh rate of 50Hz, and "XR 800" in the X8300C, which should be 100+Hz (120 I think).

  • If anyone is buying Sony TVs, pair it with the Sony soundbar currently selling for $94.50 with code (refer to bottom comments)

  • The 30-Nov sale was a ripper with 20% off, e.g. Good Guys ebay KDL55W800C was $1395 - 20%, and many sales went through on 30-Nov.
However now it's $1495 - 10%, and still no sales since 30-Nov. I'll get one next time they offer that first deal, but if someone can't wait now may be a good chance before christmas I suppose.

  • Does anyone know if reviews for the 48 inch is good? Also is full HD look good on 48" or the ultra HD and others better? I see those Ultra HD tvs go for 2k or 3k…

  • 50hz for 4k, hmm…I want more futureproofing for my games (even though hardly any of them get to 60fps). Also its a Sony which probably still has a terrible UI

  • Great news 49" 4K is now only $1065.60 plus 3.3% cashback from Cash Rewards
