Bought it at that price last week when they had that deal. Careful, make sure u get the latest C-120 model, it more energy efficient etc

    • +1

How do you know if it's the C-120?

      • check the box, should be on the side somewhere

      • +1

it is written on the box, says 1202 something like that, older model is 110x.

    • +4

They should be new stock. Most of the old stock would have sold last weekend when they were on special (in saying that, my store has had none of the old stock for a while now).

If you want to be 100% sure, check the box before buying and maybe go to a bigger or more popular store (think large shopping centres) where the stock is sold more often.

  • As of right now the next cheapest place i've seen to get a PS4 is at Target for $399 (black or white).

    • So this is a great deal?

  • +15

I really, really don't want to buy one, but I the urge to do so is becoming uncontrollable

    • +85

Actually, it includes a controller so you should be fine

      • -6

        Waa. Waa. Waa. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

  • -4

Oh cool, looks to 'top deals' "PlayStation 4 500GB Console $299 at Dick Smith" hmmmm

    • +17

Looks at deal "No one can find any stock" hmmmm

    • +2

That was all clearance stock at Dick's. Each store probably only had a few if any at all.

      Long gone by now lol.

      • -2

There's 2 at Southland, saw them right before closing yesterday.

        JUST KIDDING!

    • -5

Knock off another $100 and we might be talking

    • most stores didnt have them and they were the old model.

  • +1

Console prices man… When I bought an XB1 for $530, it was by far the cheapest on the market…

    • -6

Yeah but how cool did it feel knowing you'd been one of the first few silly enough to pay through the nose?

  • Was ~$355 at Target Ebay a couple days ago. Now it feels like I missed out.

    • If you use the 10% off Big W gift cards deal you can get it for $331.20, beating Targets price.

  • +1

Boxing Day sales unless you want it for Christmas.

    • +5

Nah… Last year the best deal was pre xmas. The boxing day deals at Jb and others was mediocre.

    • +2

There are no Boxing Day sales anymore. For the last 3-4 years.

      • +1

I have noticed that too - the best deals are in the pre-xmas sales the last few years.

  • What's the cheapest this model has been? Still love the PS3 so trying to find means to justify the purchase

    • +2

Excuse me but if your only mean to justify the purchase is the price then don't buy it. Next gen games are/will only available on PS4/XB1, so it all comes to the fact if you want to play those games or not. Of course you need to factor in the console price, but any new game costs 60+ so it's not just the console you need to take into account.

      • -7

Next gen games played the real way = PC. PS3 is good enough for casual gaming. If you find a game you really want to play and isn't on the PS3, then upgrade. Otherwise upgrade for nothing.

btw, last of us PS3 and PS4, couldn't tell much diff

        • The frame rate was worth it. My wife said I looked really pretty lying on the couch playing with my 60 inch.

        • +18

@stonkered: think you added an extra 0 there….

        • -2
        • Lol, looks like I brought an Android to an iPhone party. Just a few more negs fanboys! Your're nearly there!
(I'm in no way implying that consoles are built like or run anything like the iPhone.)

        • @stonkered: Don't they mainstream 85 inch now? Time for an upgrade…

        • You can't tell much difference between the same game going from 1280x720 to 1920x1080, from 30fps to 60fps, larger draw distance and with some modified gameplay mechanics yet you feel you can advise on how to play next generation games? No, the reason you were negged is because you don't know what you are talking about.

        • +1

          @FabMan:
You can absolutely tell the difference between 720 and 1080. The edges of objects / buildings etc. on 720 look like lego blocks even on highest AA, running on any native 1080 monitor. Tree leaves / foliage makes this painfully obvious.

30FPS might be okay but as soon as explosions start happening, among other things, it might dip to 15. So 60FPS makes a lot of difference in that regard. And also helps with smoothness when you're spinning the camera / player around really fast.

        • +1

          @Blitzfx:

What are you talking about numbnuts, I know you can tell the difference. I was responding to numbnuts who said he couldn't tell the difference.

Did you even fully read my post before commenting?

        • @FabMan: haha, funny guy, didn't know you spoke for all the neggers. Do you own both games and have played side by side? The upscale did nothing for the game. Don't believe a person who has played side by side? Just use google and see the YouTube comparisons.

Please know your games and read before ranting about something. It was a comment specific to Last of Us. Because I comment on things I know. Although only played half way through the PS4 version, was enough to see.

If you can justify upgrading for this reason, you got more money than you deserve.

        • @plague69:

You upvoted the person who specifically wrote you can tell the difference between 720 and 1080, that 720 looks like LEGO bricks. So do you agree with their assessment that contradicts your own view or did you not read their post?

With the gaming PC I own, I can choose nearly all of my games to play at 720 or 1080, I can definitely see the difference. I have also set games at 30fps cap and 60fps cap, again I can see the difference.

          Comparison PS3 vs PS4 video:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnhP02oTnvQ

At the 5:00 mark you can see the PS3 version and at 5:30 you can see the PS4 version, there is a significant difference when looking at the environment. This is also shown on a compressed video, in the actual game it is even more pronounced.

    • Pretty sure this is the cheapest price for just the console, though the deals for $400ish with a decent game are better for some.

Not including clearance prices where you had to be very lucky like DSE

      • But this is just a 500 gig not a Tb.

    • Was $355 delivered like 2 days ago @ Target

    • I was the same, just bought a ps4 last week via Big W deal. The PS3 is getting hard to get decent games via PS+, thought it was time to move on.

  • +1

    great!!! project morpheus next

I price matched a PS4 at my local Big W (Miranda NSW) for $299 by telling them about Dick Smith's price.

The employee called up Dicksmith to confirm they had the deal even though they had no stock, and the employee was given permission from his boss to go through with it.

I had the choice between black and white models.

      Ozbargin Certified……High 5

  • +1

Put it on lay by and then pay it off in gift cards later in week once you buy the 10% off big w gift cards starting Thursday.

  • +1

There were 2 PS4's at Greensborough Dick Smith late last week for $299 for anyone interested.

  • This will go good with the $10 Big W voucher + 10% Staff Discount + The 10% off gift cards promo.

    • Where is the $10 voucher from? Also the staff discount should only be 5%

      • +1

10% till the 31st I'm pretty sure. Voucher is from an email I received from Everyday Rewards Woolworths Rewards.

  • Is there any difference between the 500GB and the 1TB besides the HD space? is it better future proofing by buying the 1TB? are the chipsets etc the same ie the C-1200?

    • +3

Yes, the difference only on the HD size, and you can always swap the HD yourself to 2tb, so 1tb isn't really future proofed. Imo, 500gb should be enough, I prefer to buy hard copy games as you can always off load it to gum tree if you bored with it. Plus recently there's been so many specials on hard copy games that cheaper than the digital version.

      • cool thanks for the info. I agree , i like to buy the discs because like you said at least you can then on sell it and recoup some $ to buy another game. I only have a PS3 at the moment with like a 150GB/320GB HD and thats enough for me as I dont put anything else on it really anyway. I seen Destiny legendary edition for $42 on PSN which is cheap but usually the digital copies are more expensive

    • exactly the same except hard drive size.

  • -4

The question is….WHAT TO PLAY?? All the games are still over 20. Will wait until boxing day for good deals

    • +6

You don't buy a PS4 to play 19.95 game, you buy a PS4 to play the game you like, in your case , don't buy a PS4 :)

    • +1

I've had my PS4 since launch and I've seen a fair number of PS4 exclusives go down to $20.

KZ:SF, Knack, Driveclub, Infamous, TLOU (remaster), The Order, Uncharted Collection (I missed out on those god damn DSE sales!).

Like most things, you just have to be patient.

    • The last of us remastered is still the best game on PS4, followed by Diablo 3 Reaper of souls :).. next year will see some great titles come out though.

  • +1

Target eBay deal was better IMO and I wouldn't rush to get this one. I ended up getting the 1Tb for $340 after selling the 3 games on Gumtree for $60.

  • +1

Just for the record, JB HiFi will not price match this (Southland store anyway).

My wife was just there and they stated they cannot match this. The start date of the catalogue was not even an issue. I told her to try EB games but doubt they will come to the party.

  • So is it worth buying the the gift card to get an additional 10% off as well?

  • JB Hi Fi (Elizabeth Street [Vic]) refused to price match the console, but the JB store at Bourke Street (Vic) did. Thanks to the staff at Bourke Street.

    • Hello, could you please upload the receipt from JB Hi Fi if possible? Thanks

  • +1

Anyone leaving holiday overseas? Make sure u bring it along to claim back GST… It really light. max 2.5 kg I think

  • Comparing this deal with Xbone 1TB deal with 4 games at $344, I found that people here place a much greater value on PS4 over Xbone.

Any particular reasons? Is it just the games exclusive to PS4?

    • More powerful, consistent 1080p or 60fps, arguably better OS (for non-multimedia things), has been cheaper than Xbone in the past, more and better exclusives, PS+ if you have PS3/Vita.

      • All correct! .. but as of right now the Xbox one is the overall better option (cheaper).. i really do like halo co-op and Diablo 3 reaper of souls was half the price on xbox one as it was on PS4 so i snapped it up on that. no issue there as it Runs 1080p 60FPS on both machines. :) Ive noticed that games are really all that matter no matter what platform you play them on .. PC, Xbox, PS4 .. its all about the game not the machine.

    • I would have picked up the Xbone but I am very much committed into the playstation ecosystem (having purchased digital titles on the psvita and ps3).

The remote-play for the psvita also interests me.

I otherwise regret not having tried the Xbone exclusives like the Halo series and Forza titles.

    • do you play online, what do your friends play on (they can play with you on their ps4 without the game or take over and do a level you find hard to do. Not sure if you can do that with xbox).

      • i dont know about the rest of you people but offline play split screen and 4 player games are still my preferred way to play. I'll stick to PC for online content and gameplay

  • +1

remember if you buy it online you are not buying it from BigW, you are buying it from a company via BigW market place - https://www.bigw.com.au/partners/Movies%20and%20Games%20Plus
warranty/returns etc are through that company and not BigW.

  • +11

Successfully bought ps4 for $331.20. Buy gift card for $368 discounts to 331.2. Buy ps4 straight after buying gift card. Done at Bourke Street Melbourne.

    • Same here. Bought mine for $331.20 after discount at Liverpool NSW. Only white were available.

    • Can please confirm the model?

      • +1

        The latest 1202 model :)

        • thank you..

    • yes!!!! thanks! not all heroes where capes….

      • where capes…?!?

        • wear*
sorry got excited and went full retard lol

        • @mr_vino89:

          good save lol

    • Can you please upload receipt? Will head over to the BigW at Bourke Street tomorrow.

    • Could you upload the receipt ? thanks

  • hi all does big w sell ps vita anymore?

    • dont bother with Vita unless you're into JRPG

      • ..yes I am and I do like them thats why I want one

        • Sony are dumping support for Vita, so if theres enough JRPG for you released already go for it

thats about all I got mine for, possibly the shittest handheld ever released, they should of let hackers go nuts on it. Probably Sonys last ever.

        • @Makoto: wheres the link for that?

        • @shadowrukia: ps vita is great! I have no even played the to any jrpgs on it besides persona 3 and 4.

  • It's not available online

  • So do you just buy the gift cards in bigw and then buy the console? Or need to buy gift cards elsewhere? If so just buy 368 worth of gift cards?can you buy such amount thought gift cards come in certain values.and when buying its reduced by 10%?

    • +1

from Big W, you can get gift cards from $5 to $500. upto you how much you want and get 10% off as per their promotion

      • attempted this tactic at Winston hills store. the guy said not allowed to pay by gift card. only eftpos or cash..is that true? shall I try other store?

        • I think you should go back there and complain. The only thing you can't buy with gift cards is gift cards.

        • @Lenneth: managed to get it at other store.

        • @joeventus:

That is good. It is annoying when staff make up their own rules.
