  • Comes with special sauce?

  • Woo hoo! I loved that deal. Don't forget to tap your ING card for 2% cash back!

  • As usual my local 7-Eleven had 3 rows of nothing but egg and lettuce and no other sandwiches.

    • +2

When were you there? and where it is located?

  • labelled chicken and avocado, i didnt look properly inside. it was chicken and lettuce. much disappoint :(

    • No, you saw right. The chicken and avocado sandwiches have roast chicken, lettuce and 12% creamed avocado.

      • Ah yeah. I noticed on closer inspection the following week. 12% creamed avocado just doesn't meet my expectations :P

  • Its could comes with added extra :)

muhaha…sometimes it really pays to make your own sandwich! :P

Not if you make your sandwich with the affected lettuce.

      "
No food safety issues have been identified with 7-Eleven sandwiches.

Tripod Farms supply raw ingredients to our Victorian sandwich manufacturer. We have been advised by the supplier that the salad types impacted by the recall are not those used in our sandwiches.

As a precaution only, all 7-Eleven sandwiches were withdrawn from sale in all Victorian stores in the last 24 hours. We expect to be back in stock of our sandwich range in the coming days. "

    • I would never buy a $2 from 711 ever again after the last time. A mate of mine and myself were both violently sick afterwards. I threw up for two days straight and had to go on antibiotics for like a week. And this was even before the outbreak.

    • Do you want Salmonella with that? No it comes included. May come with traces or whole-bodied Arachnids.

I went to 7 Eleven just after midnight.N the worker told me that the $2 sandwich deal didnt start till 8am in the morning. He said the reason was bc he's shift didnt finish. I had 3 diff sandwiches i was about to buy - 2x $2 n 1 x $7.So i asked him to scan the sandwich. I gave him a $7 sandwich to scan n it showed up as $7.So i was just about to leave n walk off when he said that he'll try again n scanned the $5 sandwich. It scanned as $2 so i went to the fridge to get another one n left the store with 3 diff $5 sandwiches. It sounds like the management of the 7 Eleven i went to is pressuring the worker to not sell the $2 sandwich deal till ppl get up after breakfast time ? I tried going last wed after midnight when the deal started n got the same excuse that the deal didnt start.I think i was lied to by the worker with the same excuse last week too. Better to sell the sandwiches for $2 n make up in volume sales than not have any business at all ?

Someone should post a deal for a tin foil hat.

    • +2

You know it's not the poor underpaid guy's decision to not sell it before 8 right? If you were working for half of the minimum wage would you give a crap?

Try to step into other people's shoes sometimes and you would be way less outraged.

Good deal for $2.. but because it's just $2 I end up buying two and put on weight so it's $4

  • ‘Virtual slave’ paid 47 cents an hour to work at 7-Eleven store

    http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/virtual-slave…

    • Disgraceful. I will never set foot in a 7 Eleven store again.

      • Great! That'll teach 'em!

    • It's a dick move by 7-Eleven. However, on the other hand, that student was also working illegally which was the only reason that he was exploit. This sort of stories also happens in all the Chinese restaurants, removalists etc.

I am not defending 7-11 by any mean but simply baffled by how the media/public completely ignored the illegal work factor.

      • Students were working over limit because there was not paid enough. If they were paid min wages, then there was no need for student to work illegally. When overseas student first come to this country, they are in desperate need of job. Some business owner take advantage of this and make them work illegally say for 40-50 hours but pay only for 20 hours. Students have no other option but take this offer because leaving expense is very high in Aus and overseas students get no support from government and they have to pay 2-3 times more Uni fees then Australian student.

        • Students were working over limit because there was not paid enough.

When overseas student first come to this country, they are in desperate need of job.

I can see where you are coming from as I am also a migrant myself and I had heaps of friends who were oversea students; but please keep in mind that we are not encouraging oversea students to compete with local workforce. Hence the limit was introduced. We are simply 'exporting' our education industry. For a similar reason, oversea students are not entitled to medicare, austudy or concessions. That is the cruel reality.

As much as we want to provide enough to every single one, we simply can't afford it.

    • On the other hand if no one is buying those sandwiches will their staff pay even worst as they have more lose?

      • +1

This is reason why you can't see Australians in 711. If you think its okey to exploit international students, then business will hire us because they can get cheap labor. why will they pay full salary to us if they can hire someone for fraction of the cost. If everyone is paid same then businesses will always prefer Australian youth first.

      arent we professional bargain hunters?

Certainly not you, looking at your stats lol

      • +1

        …what? i have 'stats'….?? :P

i dont consider myself elite like you tightarse
….but i know what a deal is and a crappy 2 buck sanga aint that! :D

        • …what? i have 'stats'….?? :P

If you click on your username it'll show how many deals you've posted.

….but i know what a deal is and a crappy 2 buck sanga aint that! :D

Can you post a deal for a cheaper sandwich that's easily available to everyone?

I've had these sandwiches before and when you're just looking for a quick bite to eat, they're a great deal compared to e.g. a double cheeseburger.

Had chicken and lettuce sanga last Wednesday.
chicken was a … paste.. no texture as such.
My stomach was unhappy all day.
Mind you I don't eat junk food other than my local mom&pa fish & chips and pizza shop, so it could just be my poor constitution.

    • paste of chicken…..? that sounds positively disgusting…

      • +1

Yeah I figure chicken should be chewy.. have bits.. you know.. recognisably meatish in nature.

        • …not an UNREASONABLE expectation! :P

  • -3

To all those complaining that 7-11 underpay their workers, how about you actually give them your business so that they actually make some money so they can actually pay their workers.

By boycotting the business, their profits will decrease and the poor workers will likely be paid even less or let go because they don't need so many staff.

    • +2

If a store makes more money, will the money end up with the workers, or will the owner just pocket it?

      • Who knows but at least the money is there. By boycotting the business the money won't be there at all and the workers more likely to be underpaid more.

        • +2

So by your reasoning, we should give businesses who use child labour etc. so they can pay their workers more?

You don't seem to get the point… It is not that the business does not have enough money to pay the workers, it is that business's practise who choose to exploit and take advantage of workers who do not know any better.

Though, particularly in this case the company is blaming the franchisees that are responsible, still does not excuse them because the franchisees are using their name out there.

        • @wildstone:

Though, particularly in this case the company is blaming the franchisees

Correct and so they should. But you don't know which ones they are so it's unfair to paint all stores/franchisees with the same brush.

        • @Firey1989:

I know and I didn't blame all stores. I'm just merely saying your reasoning was flawed. You were basically saying to support businesses that low paid their workers, which does not make sense, as the business low paid workers not because they cannot pay more, so giving them more money won't make a difference.

    • +1

They will probably be making more money if Ozbargainers boycott them. No more stingy tight asses that only buy when things are on deep discount (aka very low margins for businesses).

      • How will they make more money if less of their low margin products are sold?

        • Ozbargainers are bad because they will only go in and buy the 2 dollar sandwich then leave.

These 2 dollar sandwichs, 1 dollar coffee are traditional loss leaders, they lure you in and hope you buy something else. E.g a 3 dollar bottle of coke to go with your Sandwich. Ozbargainers will never buy a 3 dollar bottle of coke, while a normal consumer might.

        • Because they run out of stock because of people like us, so there will be sandwiches left for non-tightarses, who would also buy fuel or a drink.

        • @garratt torlesse:

I'm sure they still make money from the $1 coffee?

At least, I hope they do since that's what I usually go there for..

        • @montorola:

I think the $1 coffee should be pretty marginal, might be a slight profit.

Hungry Jacks used to offer $1 dollar coffee. But now only offer $2 medium cups to match 7/11's $2 medium cups. (They still sell the small cup, but its like $3.5 or something crazy). So I imagine the numbers are fairly tight, and 7/11 probably got a better margin because its self serve.

        • @garratt torlesse:
Friend owns a cafe in the cbd, profit is 300% Per cup. 711 is still making money off 1 dollar coffee.

I ate a tomato, lettuce, avocado, capsicum, cheese and cucumber multigrain sandwich reading this. Made it myself. Mmmm….burp.

  • Damn it! They'd run out by 12:30. This never happened before. Should have gone earlier… :,(

  • I always see those $7 sandwiches (chicken schitzel?) but I don't know whether it's part of the $2 deal. Anyone tried their luck?

    • LOL good luck finding ANY of the Seven dollar ones on a $2 Wednesday

They all magically disappear when it's two buck day…

      • +1

Saw 3 different types of 7 dollars earlier today at Swanston/Flinders Lane.

Ok, it was way earlier today, at around 6 am. I guess 2 dollar brekky?

Also, the 7 dollar one doesn't look all that good either. Can't imagine people actually buying it at full price. Especially with Maccas and Hungry Jacks next door.

        • Wow, they must have forgotten what day it was..

      • They all magically disappear when it's two buck day…

Could it be because everyone buys them since they're $2 instead of $7?

        • No.

        • @billyb67: So if you're selling a sandwich at a 70% discount, there's absolutely no way it can be sold out by the time you get there. OK then.

        • @eug:
a staff member told me that only the basic sandwiches are delivered on Wednesdays. She is great and therefore orders lots of $7 ones to be delivered on Tuesdays so the regulars can get them. Despite this, the good ones are always sold out by 11am.

        • @eug:

I've been to at least six 7/11's anywhere from midnight to 8am on these $2 Wednesdays and they have NEVER had the $7 sandwiches…

Several told me they dont even stock them on wednesdays, which others have already attested to. some stores state the $2 deal starts at 3-4 am yet still none available..

You can't sell out of something if you never sold them in the 1st place..

        • @billyb67: If you scroll up you'll see two people mentioning it being available in their stores, so your six stores are not representative of all 7-11s.

        • @eug:

          haha dude give it up

          2 against 6, I still win

        • @billyb67: Hmm, it's about winning? If that's what you're after, sure, you win.

"I know 6 smokers who look fit and healthy. Obviously smoking isn't harmful."

        • @eug:

          Exactly !

  • yay the crappy $2 sandwiches are back…!

  • +2

Also, I hear this is the "last" Wednesday to run this deal (from their website it says until 02 March).

    • Yep last day today…
