15% off Surface Products Microsoft Education Discount - Surface Pro 4 from $1146.65

1160

Microsoft has just increased the education discount on Surface products from 10% to 15% off. Applies to the Surface Book (which starts from $1,954.15) as well as accessories. Don't forget to use Cashrewards for an additional 4% off :). Off course this is only for students and faculty but 15% off is 15% off.

$428 difference between the i5/4GB/128GB model and the i5/8GB/256GB model? Bloody hell Microsoft….

    • -1

      Yeah, i noticed that too.
Wish it was easy to crack open. Could upgrade the SSD and Ram for about $150

      • +12

I'm happy with 128GB SSD as I can add a 128GB micro SD on it but 4GB RAM is seriously a deal breaker.

        • 4GB RAM with SSD is not that bad. I would actually prefer the larger SSD because micro SD cards are too bloody slow.

        • happy with SP2 , i5/4GB/64GB :D
          not point upgrade~

      • If the RAM / SSD wasn't soldered onto the main board, then sure! :D

    • +3

It is alot but apple charge 300 just for a storage upgrade on the 13 inch retina macbook pro. At that starts at 1999 with just a 128gb ssd!

      • +15

Need compare apple to Apple :)

    • Yeah and that's the real entry level one that you assume a lot of people are going for. I'm waiting for a deal on that model cos $2000 is a lot of cash moneys.

  • Damn 15% is nice. Couldve saved ~$150 on my Surface Book.

Wouldve been mad if I just got it

    • Which SB did you get?

      • The base model, couldnt really afford or justify paying for the prices of the ones with the NVidia gpu

    • +2

Yep.. I know what you mean. I'm mad.

      • Me too. Got my top end SB with docking station last Friday. Could've saved another $250. :-(

EDIT: Just saw the comments about price guarantee…. woohoo!! :-)

  • Accessories include type covers? Or not. Not sure how the 15% is calculated. :S

    • 15% off everything surface wise. Includes covers.

      • So how do we verify student. Do we need a student email to login or am I better off showing my ID at the Sydney store?

        • +1

          Yep Student email

    • yes

  • What kind of "verification" do they require for student price purchases on the online store?

    • Something with the Student email, cant remember exact process

      • +1

Host a domain at go daddy

        [email protected]

        • +5

That costs money though. Enroll in uni then withdraw before the deadline to withdraw without fees. Total cost = $0.

        • @gottacatchemall: Wow… total pro

        • :/ .edu not available for public use lol

Otherwise godaddy $12 hosting for a year includes domain as well

    • During the order process they'll ask you to provide a student email address - once supplied they will send a confirmation link to that email address.

      • Year ago I purchased Surface 3 from MS store and got the student discount after confirming the email address. I used my Live account to login then as well.

Just now purchased the Type Cover and after logged to my Live account got it for $149.99 without any confirmation. My credit card info was stored there as well, spooky!

      • does the confirmation link need to be clicked through from the email to validate the email account before ordering? Or is it just FYI and then once the order is in the order confrimation and receipt goes to that email address? reason I ask is that my daughter has an .edu account but they haven't re-activated it yet for the school year. I also know one of her teachers whose email is activated but I don't want to ask her to do too much other than forward emails to me.

        • +1

You need to click the link sent to the edu email to validate the discount.

I got my SP4 last year from JB Hifi who did the educational pricing for me after showing proof of being a student.

  • People should also try striking a deal with HN or JB Hifi, I know JB will at least price match.

My Brother price matched the student discount for his Sp4 a few months back, even though he was no longer a student.

    • +3

JB Hifi are a big dodgy price matching wise. They don't have an official policy so depends store to store. Especially in this case as the discount is quite significant they might say the warranty or returns policy is different. You would also miss out on cashrewarards 4% off. However if you can get a price match the best way would to be big w gift cards at a discount then but jb hifi gift cards then price match the surface :)

    • +1

Miss out on cashback that way though (buying in-store)

      • +1

I'd say worth it for easier warranty claiming.

Friend had an issue with his surface, jbhifi just gave him a new one on the spot.

  • If only they would refund that 5% for those that bought already:(

    • +5

      "30-Day Price Match Guarantee

Please contact customer support at 877-696-7786, and we’ll gladly refund the difference in the form of Microsoft Store credit."

      Too bad it's only credit

      • +1

Hmm interesting. Store credit though. Not keen on that lol

        • Yeah that's a bummer.

        • +1

I'd take store credit, looking to buy a type cover now :)

      • +2

Hey, I just called them at the sydney store, im getting the difference put on my card on Saturday…. so not sure what you are talking about it being only credit? :)

        • I was speaking in terms of buying it from their website

It says Microsoftstore.com in the quote.

        • @Teal: ohhh, hmmm… yeah im not too sure about the onlinestore since i bought it in person the day after release… But hey, any money whether credit or not is good? at least they aren't neglecting people who purchased earlier.

        • @Mr Sushi San: oh you bought it when it released and still got it.

Nice, hopefully it works for the online store buyers

        • +1

I bought from MS Store, They are crediting my card apparently. I should recieve $100 back, But they are only giving me $89.90… Keeping the tax, even though no doubt that sale was booked in singapore.

      • Bought in December with education discount for Xmas so I miss out but thanks for sharing with anyone who's eligible!!

        +1

        • My pleasure buddy

  • Is the SP4 the one with the power pack issue and also when you try and put it to sleep mode

    • No, and it only applies to the AC cable not the brick. Yes there are reportedly some problems with sleep.

      • I have some problems with my SP3, but its to do with the type cover closing, and it may not be the reported 'sleep' issue.
        E.g.
If i put the surface to sleep or hibernate, and then i close the type cover, the surface will turn back on to the login password page.
To 'fix' this, i would close the type cover to let it auto-hibernate.
        This is just my example.

  • Probably worth noting that the offer appears to end on the 29th February.

  • Can you do the TRS if you buy online here?

  • +2

Still waiting for them to fix the sleep issue. Once it goes to sleep, there's a chance it won't wake up. The camera and keyboard turns on but screen doesn't. To fix this, you need to hard reset by holding power and volume up.

Super annoying == but otherwise it's a nice machine

    • +2

Once it goes to sleep, there's a chance it won't wake up.

Thinking about this at night is why I have insomnia.

    • I find the sleep issue happens almost all the time if
      1) I let it go to sleep without being plugged in then
      2) plug it in and then turn it on

      I find that if I
      1) I let it go to sleep without being plugged in then
      2) then turn it on BEFORE plugging it in then it normally doesn't have an issue

    • This has never happened to me in like a year and a half. I think it's one of those things that maybe happened to one or two people, and so the internet took the ball and ran with it.

On the other hand, the 'sleep issue' of 'I cant play spotify with the screen off because MS keeps trying to push rubbish Metro apps' is a constant annoyance.

      • You do realise that the surface pro 4 only came out a few months ago right? There are many articles indicating multiple issues and we're just waiting it out. Same thing happened to the 3 where constant software updates were pushed out to fix issues.

        • Yes, I do - because I had an sp3, and just got an sp4.

And, unlike most people who don't own one 'but totally read somewhere that they have like heaps of problems', I haven't experienced any.

Like I said, typical internet echo chamber.

        • @jjcf: Actually I do own one and good for you for having a machine that functioning correctly.

  • I bought my Type Cover yesterday…

    • Heads up: they are refunding based on the price listed on the microsoft store. Since Surface 3 LTE 128GB was $629.10, but now $800+ so they won't refund the price you purchased for. Fair in my mind.

    Single malt is better

  • Well spotted OP! Thanks :-)

Now, is there any chance TA can wrangle a limited time extra cashback offer from CashRewards? That'd be awesome.

(How do I get your attention TA?)

    • Go the Commissioner Gordon and flash the TA symbol into the night sky.

      • LOL, that's a great idea. Let's do it!

  • how can i verify im a student. i dont have a student email address

    • +1

      Then you can't.

      • I think you can. I just completed a purchase and no where it asked me for my uni email address. I had my account created on my yahoo email account. I had to chose the university name from the menu and access was granted to the students discounts. During the whole process it didnt ask me to verify my uni email address. May be someone else can confirm this too.

        • Can confirm, there is no verification process when I ordered. Therefore there is no need for a student email for now.

        • It didn't ask me anything also, I just thought it remembered my earlier student email confirmation which I did a year ago.

Maybe they just want to sell this device and don't mind if someone buys it with a small discount ;)

But if that is the case, resellers might be furious =)

  • Thank you ozbargain. I just got roughly $100 Refund! Choice. Edit $89.90. They held on to the tax…

4 Days later and I would have missed out.

    Price guarantee.
If we lower our price on an item within 30 days of your purchase, we will honor the lower price. If you notice that we have lowered a price on an item you recently purchased, just contact Sales and Support and we’ll gladly issue a refund or credit for the difference (if you paid with a credit card, you’ll need to use the same card). This offer does not apply to clearance items or price reductions associated with special sale events such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

  • AHH!!! I bought mine last month (8th of Dec) with the education discount but had to return it 2 weeks ago because it was faulty and I got sent a new device… I wonder if I can push for it given that I had to go through the trouble of sending it back and also because I got my "new device" only 3 days ago.. thoughts?

    • You could try, but very unlikely. You purchased/paid for the device almost 2 months ago so well outside the 30 days. But doesnt hurt to ask.. they might as a goodwill gesture.

      • Yeah might send an email to someone who contacted me from Microsoft (China) asking about the new device. She did tell me I could send it back and get a refund if I am not happy with it. I do love the device so I would much rather just get the difference than having to go through the entire process again!

    • What was wrong with it? Surface 4 Pro reviews are not very promising. :( A lot of people are complaining about display issues and so forth…

      • +1

        Yup had a few problems;

        1. keyboard would freeze and sometimes the trackpad
        2. When changing from laptop to tablet mode, the device would get confused and just freeze sometimes
        3. Quite a few apps crashed often (funny enough Chrome has now crashed twice since I got the new device yesterday)
        4. Device would freeze on startup screen
        5. Touchscreen would become unresponsive sometimes

So yes it was far from perfect. I still love the display and love the sleek look so I want to give it another go. If it fails me within the next 2 weeks I'm going to return it and get a refund for sure. Definitely not worth dealing with so many issues after paying so much!

        • Hang on, the first point, is that to do with the SP4 or the type cover itself?

        • +1

I had so many problems with mine in November even after the 'nvidia drivers crash' that I returned it. I really wanted to love it, but at the end of the day, even the battery didn't hold up.

        • @ATangk: I doubt it was the type cover (which I also returned anyway) because the device kept getting stuck in other ways as well. Sometimes had to take the cover off and reattach it and that did the trick. But thats something I would expect to do if I paid $100 for something not $1700! :p

        • @anthonettex: I am going to try and be optimistic but from everything I've read/heard there is a 90% chance i'll be sending this back (which is why I'm not throwing away the delivery box it came in either!)

  • where can i get 4% Cashrewards ???

  • +1

Damn I got mine from Harvey Norman about 2 weeks ago, any idea on some refunds/credit on that?

  • +1

Anybody know when this deal expires?

EDIT: Offer valid from AEDT 12:00am on 03 February 2016 to AEDT 11:59pm 29 February 2016

  • Am I missing something - when i click through to the deal I still see the 10% off prices not the 15% off prices eg i5/8gb/256gb is 1799 compared to full price of 1999.

UPDATED: figured it out…if i click through Deal link above it gives me standard 10% off. But if I click through front page of Education MS store through 15% special it gives 1699 price for above mode.. :)

  • For anyone that has recently purchased and has gone through or a submitted a claim (to claim the difference), do they require you to go in-store and bring the card you paid with and issue that as a refund? Or do they just ask you for bank details and send it as a credit?

  • -3

Just tried to do my order this morning, but cashrewards website won't load.

Tried again just as I arrived at work. Still not working. What's up with Cashrewards?

    • Great use of a neg there. Checked and the website was down for a while this morning. All good now.

  • Since you don't need to prove you are a student or faculty to get the discount, is there any way to get the same through HN or JB and get a SP4 on interest free?

    • You probably won't even be able to get it if you paid straight up at HN/JB for student price because either they won't do it, or you don't have a student card to prove you are a student anyway.

      • Just picked up a Surface Book and some accessories at JB Hi-Fi Civic (Canberra), they were happy to price match the 15% discount, and I did not have to produce any student card etc. (although I could have, I just didn't have anything on me, and they let it slide).

        • Ah wow ok that's impressive…

        • I went and did the same - they could price match the i5 with the keyboard price with 15% off but not the 4% cashback that i would get online from CashRewards so went with online :)

        • What sort of accessories did you grab?

MS have a bundle that supposedly saves up to $128 on SB bundle or unto $188 on St bundles.

          http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/list/Surface…

What is the cheapest way to get office on your Surface?

        • @GLO:
          Just got the type cover
Already have office suite ready to install from my other computers

        • @GLO: The cheapest way is just to buy a Surface and buy Office. Those bundles are pretty terrible, as you have to buy the Complete Protection for $270, which is only $9 cheaper than it is if you buy it separately. Really all you are getting is a free bag, but you only get it if you were intending on buy Complete Protection and Office with your Surface.

  • +1

Would love a surface book with ngpu ….but can't justify the $$$ :(

  • Can anyone please let me know if it makes reference to the Educational discount on the receipt? I want to see if I can Salary Sacrifice it as well.

    • On the jb receipt it says price match - Microsoft student.
