  • Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage!Free shipping!

Wow cheap. I may grab one of these babies.

Cheapest on staticice is $167 + Shipping

  • +1

Thanks, grabbed one of the 4tb cloud drives.

Although there was a $2.70 handling fee for free shipping, still a great deal though.

    • no handling fee for me. Perhaps you paid via paypal and got charged a fee?

      • That was most likely it.

Would probably be worth putting a handling charge in the description if paying via PayPal (if that's the case).

        • +1

Just put through using CC and got a handling charge as well, how did you pay EC?

          Cheers.

EDIT: looks like DD removes the handling charge, CC and PayPal cop it.

        • @JoshG123:

also confirmed myself that CC and PP cop the $2.70 fee, and DD removes it :)

        • +1

          how did you pay EC?

  • Pclan team are dodge tell you anything for a sale
Called them asking about a items and they assured me it would not get cheaper and then week later they reduce the same item more then $100
Talked to them about it and said the sale is done not there problem
    Not buying from them

    • +8

Poor guy, your keyboard does not have punctuation.

      • -1

        Or grammar

        • +2

          That's in the firmware…

    • +24

According to your comment on our previous post, you bought the Seagate 6 Bay NAS 1 month before our clearance, and the price was reduce from $380 to $309 (less than $100).

Price drop is always happen in the IT industry, I am sorry that you cannot accept it.

      • +3

If you've got a good deal on Crystal Balls, put me down for one.

    • +1

Price drops happen, when a lower margin retailer gets a price drop from their supplier they pass it onto the customer, it usually happens without warning.
      This is how it works.
Perhaps Harvey Norman is the kind of place you should be shopping in the future, they wont pass on the immediate price drop and when they do decide to they can give you money back because they had a 25%+ markup in the first place instead of 2-3%.
Im afraid there is nothing unusual about the transaction you have mentioned.

    • -1

Well tough luck… it happens to all of us.

They are right, sale is done and they did nothing wrong.
      Move on.

LOL it's like saying you bought shares for $1.00 and then one week later it dropped to $0.50.
Can you a refund for the difference?
      I don't think so.

  • +1

site is been hammered, no response after 10 try.
It might save me $135 for that

    • +1

      Yeah, bored, moving on.

  • +4

Best shipping price on cloud storage I have seen. Dropbox refused to quote me for shipping and AWS didn't reply to my emails.

  • How is the quality of this cloud drive comparing to WD ?

  • +1

is one able to replace the drive in this cloud device? just asking

    • +3

      The drive is replaceable.

      • Wouldnt this void the warranty? I'd buy 2 of the 4tb devices just for the drives inside. Do you have stock at Lidcombe? I'd rather just pick them up.

        • +1

For how to take out the hard drive, please see here

However, this action will also void the warranty.

P.S. Pick up will be available tomorrow afternoon, please call us at 02-96493288 before you come.

  • Hi StoreRep, any chance of a price on 1 x Seagate 6 Bays Business Pro NAS WITHOUT HDDs, cheers.

  • I really need to back up family photos and videos, but our internet is pretty average here in the country.
Would this be the way to go?
Edit - I know nothing about computers (using hubbie's account here and he's at work).

    • +1

Yes - Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage would work. You can sync the photos/videos to it. You will have one copy on your PC and one on the unit.

    • +2

Watch this to see how it works and whether it will suit you. The guy explains it pretty well in depth.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9WQb9DuU8o

Other than what it can do, a 4TB SATA drive for around $135 is comparatively cheap compared to buying a drive outright.

      Seagate though

    • Yes it would, as I believe it just needs to be on your home network to function and doesn't require an internet connection.

  • -deleted-

    • yep pity that isn't the same drive ;)

      • :) Yep!

  • good price, picked up a Seagate Central 4TB :) as above, can use bank transfer to avoid handling fee, (CC and paypal cost $2.70 extra)

    • 2% cc charge. I think it is better to use cc for some cards having free extended warranty

  • Nice prices! Any chance on a deal for the QNAP TS-453 Pro?

  • Has anyone done a cost/benefit analysis of running and maintaining a NAS at home for storing/watching movies and TV shows? I know it all depends on the type of NAS you buy but the initial investment seems very high as well as the chances of data loss and time maintaining the system etc.

I'm currently running Sonarr & Couchpotato downloading via utorrent going into Plex on my main gaming computer with a couple of external hard drives. I don't know whether jumping ship to get a NAS is worth it in the long run with the way cloud computing and streaming services are advancing and their low cost. Or just run it from my main gaming PC (possibly getting some more internal drives) and letting it run 24/7.

My main thing is I want all of my content from the one place. Currently steaming services has certain shows on them because they've bought the rights to certain shows so you have to purchase subscriptions to three or more providers to get a good variety of shows (including VPNing to get access to their US variants).

Any other advice would be appreciated.

    • I guess it depends what you are looking for. Which one is more beneficial for you. I was also thinking about paying cloud. There is a risk that your data can be compromised and it takes awhile to download and upload. With you having the physical cloud storage, you have more control, faster pc download n upload, you can turn off, but with the risk of drive failing and no backup. I chose physical drive as only involve initial cost and more control.

      • Fair enough, I'm reasonably new to all of this but thanks for the info

    • +2

Have you missed the bus on that one? Do you know this place has been crazy about Microservers for the last 5 yrs or so?

You can retask and old machine, slap in some cheap drives, basicially $99 for 2tb or $130 or so for 3tb and run freenas or nas4free or even windows and you can serve to everyone in your home.

Cloud doesnt mean shit to me if I want to hold HD or FHD content. I might have all the star wars movies or james bond or whatever series on my HDD in HD or better with 5.1 or better sound. You aint gonna get that with streaming.

      • +1

I do have an old Q6600 machine when I can put some drives in to do that but wasn't sure about the power consumption.

I'm pretty new to the whole server scene and I keep seeing NAS' pop up on ozbargain and didn't know if it was the right path for me

        Thanks for the insight

        • +1

Yeah dont use a q6600. I have one. They use too much power to run 24/7. Hell I have a nas I made from a PC I found on council cleanup. Typically you only need low speed PCs. This one is a Celeron 1200 4Gb ram, 4 sata ports so you can run 4 drives, with about $500 worth of drives (eg. 4 x 3tb) you can have up to 12tb online. Cloud and streaming means nothing when you have 12tb in your house.

Do you mind if I pm you instead of clogging up this thread?

        • @Jemz:

grab one of these if you are worried about power consumption on a home built NAS.
          http://www.aliexpress.com/item/PICO-BOX-DC-ATX-24Pin-24p-Z3-…

I switched out a 400w ATX PSU in my socket 775 NAS. it went from 70w idle to 20w idle measured at the wall. saves about $9 a month using it 24/7

        • @antikythera:

Can I PM you about this?

I don' think you've got the setting turned on to accept PM's from other people

  • I'm more interested if you have a good deal on that Buffalo USB 3.0 BD-writer.. hehe..

but your webpage is down.. :(

Oh dear. Seagate are now calling a LAN connected drive, personal 'Cloud' storage? Talk about abusing buzzwords. A single hard drive, hence single point of failure does not a cloud make. I predict in the future we'll have many device users who are surprised they've lost all their data after uploading it to this 'cloud'.

    • Usually with single bay drive they have a external backup snapshot of all your files zipped into a attached external portable drive. I know the WD Mycloud. But I upgraded recently into a Synology DS716+.

Cons: "Hard drive is not user replaceable"
User reviews and comments, all 1-2y ago:
"It does not work consistently ever", "Unreliable. Random disconnects."
"I regret buying this device. It's non-intuitive, cumbersome, unnecessarily complicated and slow."
"If I had my time over again, I would not touch this device. I am returning it."
    "Deeply regret this purchase."
"Very happy with it. A worthwhile investment."
"I don't understand the complaints. Mine works exactly as intended."

    What now?

    • Yeah I personally dont care about that stuff. All I really want to know is if the drive can be removed and used in a real nas.

Thing is it relies on your network and your wireless router so if you cant set up stuff right, you're going to blame the drive.

      • did a quick look up on youtube. you can tear it down though it wont be easy. the drive itself is a 5900rpm dvr drive.

        • You can tear it up with a hammer but you wont be claiming warranty on it. That's my concern. The rep. up there says it is upgradeable.

    • For how to take out the hard drive, please see here

As this action will void the warranty, so it is "not user replaceable".

  • Bought one. At $137 it's cheaper than any 4tb I can find for backup.

  • Anyone know the type of drive inside the 4tb central cloud?

  • Dear rep,

Just bought Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage and did bank transfer.

    Order # 200002879.

Can you kindly confirm that the amount has been received?

    • Payment is received and the unit will be despatched tomorrow.
Tracking number will be provided once available.
      Thank you for your order!

    • Edit: Never mind, rep answered :)

  • Can you use it with wdlive to access movies ? I use wdlive with wd cloud.

  • Hello Everyone,

We now started doing clearance on 4/6 Bay Seagate Business NAS(Diskless), Please check the link Below to find out:

Seagate 4 Bays Business NAS (Diskless) $179 Shipped
Seagate 4 Bays Business NAS Pro (Diskless) $249 Shipped
Seagate 6 Bays Business NAS Pro (Diskless) $309 Shipped

  • how is the lifespan like for 24/7 ?

  • Raid 1 or mirroring is fine but risk of loss is still significant if it's in one unit, e.g. gets cooked or wet, etc. Backup should be stored in a separate location imo, therefore 4TB single is best value here for home use I'd say, even having it in a different area of the house will improve your odds.

  • Had a look on your website… maybe it's too late in the day but i couldn't work out how to navigate the NAS section and prices etc anyway just impulse browsing

    • Hi there,

you can call(02 9649 3288) or email([email protected]) us for any NAS enquiry.

Great price for the 4TB Seagate Central. Bought a few for $299 each a few years back. Inside are just regular Seagate Desktop 4TB drives (ST4000DM000); I know because I took the drives out of the enclosure and put them in a Synology NAS

    • I have a qnap 509 pro that's loaded with 1.5gb drives. Thinking of getting 5 if these and swapping then out… How are yours going. Is there sunbathing better I should be looking at? Prince wise this looks like a good deal.

      • +1

They're just normal drives and Seagate have not designed for 24/7 use BUT they're going great for me so far, no signs of them dying yet. They've were used in the Seagate Central themselves for about a year and a bit, then I disassembled the units to get the HDDs out and put them into the NAS. NAS drives probably have more reliability and create less heat/vibration but the equivalent capacity is like 1.5-2X more. If your NAS OS can do regular SMART tests on drive then you'll be fine.

  • expired?Seagate Central 4TB Personal Cloud Storage is showing 169$ . Any coupons to apply? Am i reading the deal right?

    • Probably sold out, even though the sale won't end until 5 days ?

    • It should be working now. Sorry about it!

As the quantity is getting low now and we did not expected… promotion will be ended once it is sold out.

This product is currently out of stock.

  • yea out of stock =(

Any deals on WD Red 3TB?

  • Seagate Personal Cloud NAS - new model

  • Synology NAS is a better product

  • I bought one of the 4TB Seagate Cloud's that came up cheap on ebay recently… Just to harvest the drive.

The one i got had a ST4000VN000 NAS HDD, that makes these a good deal just for the drive alone.

    • That was great. How cheap was it?

      • $140 delivered, was unopened. I assume just an unwanted gift or whatever.

  • What's the difference between personal cloud versus NAS? They both do the same thing. Can anyone explain it please, thnx.

    • I like to know too.
Are the Business NAS with drive comes with 24/7 NAS hard drives?

      • Hi
All the HDD we use for NAS is either Seagate NAS HDD or WD Red NAS HDD which are designed for 24/7.

        • Good.
But what is the different between personal cloud and business nas?

  • Hi, any chance you get get a deal forQnap TS-251 2 Bay NAS with "TWO 4TB" Seagate NAS HDD?

  • Can someone please explain in laymans terms what a personal cloud hdd is ?

    • +1

This is a NAS. That is a hard drive connected to your local network. So you can access it from any and all computers on your network, at the same time.

It's also 'cloud'. This product connects to the internet, and you can log into a Seagate website from anywhere in the world and access (read and upload) your files, similar to Google Drive/Dropbox.

      • Thanks for the explanation, StickMan.

One technical question - is it advisable to connect the Seagate Central Personal Cloud Storage direct to the main modem/router? Or can I connect it to an EoP (Ethernet over Power)? I have my EoP in the middle of the house, and the main modem/router at the front end of the house. We spend a lot of time at the back end of the house, so we have been using the EoP since it gives better connection.

        • EoP isn't as stable as ethernet. So I'd recommend putting it where you will access it the most. If it's from cable-networked computers at the back of the house, then place it at EoP end.

      • Thanks man. Cheers.

  • +2

Its a fancy, buzzword laden name for a HDD that plugs into your home network, and is available for all PCs on that network. The "cool" cloud stuff happens when you're in the rest home and pull out your phone and show grandma pics of the kids from the HDD.

tldr, its a NAS with software that lets your files be visible over the internet, something other companies, like Synology, have been doing for years.

    • Sorry I am new to these stuff, but doesn't NAS have software as well for remote access and seeing your files while you are away?
