    • So it's a good deal?

Imagine the controversy if TA posted this. It'd be spilling into the forums and TWAM.

This still seems like a good deal for people who can't get optus. I live in moorooka which is 8-9 km from the brisbane CBD and optus cable isn't available here. For cable telstra is literally the only option.

  • To anyone who has recontracted, did you get some form of email or sms to confirm, and when did they say the change over would happen. Spoke to someone today but was busy at work did not ask these questions.

  • Anyone had any luck getting a free speed boost?

    • Not free, but it's pretty easy to get it for $10 a month, instead of $20.

  • +2

I'm paying $93 for 1000GB with speedboost. Last year some time, Optus was doing a promo on unlimited cable for $93. So I rang up Telstra and got them to try and match the deal and this is what they came up with, which I was pretty happy with. I don't have Telstra TV though so perhaps that accounts for the difference. Pays to keep an eye out on the competitors deals and use that for renegotiating deals.

  • Drinks on me! I've beaten Tight Arse 😊

  • Absolute trash at the moment. 3mbps on a 100mbps plan.

    • +1

I have been with Optus ultimate cable with unlimited data & free calls, etc. for $90/month

The problem is that at peak hours the download speed drops from 90+ mbps to around 2- mbps.

I want to jump ship, but hesitate to read that some Telstra's customers experience snail speed too.

      It's hard, man…

      • yes but 13mbs is better then 2mbps I just decided to change too.

      • Worth the risk sice you don't know whether Telstra has snail speed in your area.

  • Telstra being a ripoff aside, when it's the only choice for cable internet, it's a decent deal that I've been waiting for. Cheers for the heads up!

  • existing customers only get 500gb for $119. Not happy :(

    • If you're recontracting, just push for the same deal. I've always recontracted to new customer deals with telstra.

    • I called up last week and was able to get a $20 discount applied to my 500GB Liberty bundle for $80/month. Although now I'm considering upgrading to the L Bundle as I've recently gotten Netflix and found myself use 50GB in the 1st 3 days of the month…

      • thanks for sharing! How did you convince them to give you the $20 discount? I am on M bundle plan now and due to the usage bug they are having right now (may take a month to fix this), it's 'unlimited' for the time being.

Thanks, this is a good deal now leaving iinet :)

    • Me too! Will talk to a neighbour for a speed test…

      • I originally came from Telstra, at my old address when I switched to iinet I lost approx 8% speed, however iinet has been slowly degrading over the past year.

        • That's what I think, too. 10 years I've used iiNet adsl2; and it has been progressively getting worse (IMO) since TPG and unmetered streaming came along.

They wouldn't even let me switch to a non-contract naked adsl setup without fees.

I'd be trading up to cable, hence speed test.

Thanks. I've also recontracted with free speedboost. I ask for the PDS but the lady just copies and paste into the chat lol. I'm assuming a new modem and telstra tv would be sent to me but I'm not that bummed if I just continue to use my existing modem.

For those who say Optus is cheaper and whatnot, you really have to look at location if you're getting cable. Some areas have amazing telstra cable speeds while other areas, optus is better. I was considering to jump ship to optus because it's cheaper but I found out that speeds around my area are sluggish for Optus (about 1-5 Mbps). Meanwhile, I'm getting a constant 36Mbps down and 1Mbps up all the time on telstra, even in peak hours.

    • thanks mate! so recontracting = new customer?? how many months were you remaining? did you pay any early termination fee or other charges?

      • Yeah. Technically not new customer but reps can offer that deal. You just gotta ask for it.

I was off cobtract since Jan. I believe they have fees for changing or terminating but check your plan's PDS.

  • Is it worth paying extra to get an ipad air 2 with 2.5 gigs data? I dont want a samsung tablet.

    +1 for TPG plans

  • I signed up. Moving house tomorrow and only off-net is available and "no ports". Pretty sure the quickest way to get a port is to buy it from Telstra.

iiNet would cost $120 incl line rental for 250/250 so this is a no brainer. And I bought the house with NBN 16 months away so a long contract is fine for me.

Now it's possible their back haul is terrible; I don't know. But fingers crossed

I had a chat with "Erica". She could not give me free Speed Boost and neither her supervisor …

  • Thanks OP. Existing customer managed to upgrade to this offer for $99 a month. New modem and Telstra TV included, was already on high speed cable so I retain that and managed to get 13 numbers included.

    • I've just done the same thing except I didn't know or think to ask for the 13 numbers to be included. It's now saving me $30/mth for basically the same plan.

      • Yeah I think they charge $0.40 for calls to 13 numbers. They are typically numbers which you can get put on hold for ages, so always prefer to make these from a land line rather than a mobile. It may not be much for some, but makes a big difference to me.

        • +1

I usually look up the number to see if I can find a local one (non 13 number). In a lot of cases I use the international number but take off the +61.

  • throwing it out there to the people that reckon this deal is bad..

can you find me better that i can actually get!

no nbn, no cable, remote area, exchange BALD

      Have you thought of relocating?

Considering the copper access network was not intended to be used for data transmission when it was originally rolled out.

      • Funnily enough, I am. To a more remote area.

        • Find someone who can post you hard drives.

Providing you receive mail at the new property.

        • In that case you might be able to get satellite nbn.

    • -1

Need a location first so we can look it up on adsl2exchanges to see what ports are there and what is available. And besides plenty of companies that sell telstra ports wholesale (TPG/iinet/Internode etc)

      • Baldivis. Exchange BALD or do you need something else?

I'm with telechoice atm. 89 unlimited Inc line rental and calls

        Cheers

  • Signed up yesterday and received the new hardware today. Nice of the courier (Startrack) to leave the parcel unattended. Love the Roku - it's like a miniature Apple TV.

    • /gif congratulations

  • What kind of speeds do you get during peak hours?

    • Rock solid 95/35 on Telstra NBN here in Townsville.

      • and how much do you pay monthly please?.

My area 3021 has nothing on the roll-out map. The 3 year plan shows that it would be carried out H2 2017. But then it would be HFC rather than FTTN or FTTP. So I wonder it the future would be any better for this poor neighbourhood, as it is lucky now that cable is available, and HFC would be very similiar to cable connection. The down speed and the congestion would be the thing for both types. My only hope is that the upload speed with HFC would be better than cable.

      • Thanks but was more interested in speeds on this plan, won't be getting NBN till the end of this year according to the plan I saw sometime last year and even then we know how things almost never go according to plan.

        • Upload speed for cable internet from both Optus and Telstra is around 2 mbps. People please correct me if I am wrong.

        • @hluu0111: What about download? Currently on 1.9 Mbps with TPG.

        • @jdf: my Optus ultimate cable:

Early in the morning it is PERFECT: 70 to 100 mbps but peak hours it is around 2mbps! When I first signed up it used to be around 50 to 70 mbps peak hours.

        • Hi mate,

I am currently on cable and at my area (3104), the speed is:

Off-peak hour (early in the morning or around 1-5am): 113mbs down and 2.5mbs up
Shoulder hour (morning or noon/early afternoon): 30-60mbs down and 2mbs up
peak hour (6-11pm): 20mbs down and 1mbs up

Download is super fast but upload is horrible !!!

        • @shinichiduy: Thanks for chiming in, those speeds are incredible, looks like I am signing up.

        • @jdf: no worries, be mindful that the speed above is with speedboost included, without it, the upside will be limited to 40mbs down and 1mbs up

        • @shinichiduy: would you know how much the peak hour speed would be without the speed boost?

        • @jdf: With or without speedboost, I would think it is the same as speed is not proportionally limited. Telstra only limit your maximum speed to 40mbs and peak hour speed will never reach above 40mbs, at least in my area.

  • After being rejected three times via chat for free speed boost, I gave up and chated with Optus my current provider. I demanded 20% off each month on my 10 remaining contracting months for the peak hour snail speed or straight release. I was offered $15 off each month.

    • +1

      good for you

  • I am an existing customer (signed up a few months ago to an L bundle 500gb+300gb for $109), i called up and managed to get the current $99 1tb deal after going through to retentions. However i did get stung with a $50 re-contract fee, but, still a better deal overall for me more for less.

  • Seems i'll be getting NBN in 2018 via HFC… Guess this plan will last me until then…

    • I guess you have to contact this number 1800 993 728 to be able to get connected to the NBN.
I also tried online but they can't really help me with the free Speed Boost thingy even if they connect me to their supervisor.
I am beginning to lose hope to chat service and will never chat with them in this matter.

  • A Telstra representative has informed us that the deal is now available to existing customers and available until 30/5/16.

    • That's how it should have been from launch

    • Thanks love!

  • nearly had me here. Called up and got quoted $299 for installing some cable into my house. Geeg

  • JUST ONE MORE VOTE TO MAKE IT 150++++!!!!

  • Signed up, Cancelled iiNet, and am now running on Telstra as a higher sync speed to, but the same tech/line….. went rather painless. I'm impressed.

  • OMG 150 VOTES!

  • don't have nbn setup yet in my area. telstra cable is however available. been offered $99 for 1TB 100mbps. hoping to get 500gb for about $70pm. anyone have experience negotiating with telstra and can give me some advice? looking in particular for reps or people that know reps. thanks!

  • Any chance to get this on no contract for existing off contract customer?

  • Forgot to +1 this deal!

Signed up around 2 weeks ago, new contract and I couldn't be more happier with it.

iiNet was my last ISP, I was paying roughly around $110.00 /month including 'super fast' broadband even though I was getting around 7 MB/s on a good day, home phone w/ silent line and 1000 GB data allowance per month.

I'm currently getting 110 MB/s and that's via Cable, not NBN.

    Thanks again, OP!

  • Just signed up and am ditching Netcube. good riddance!

  • I have received the modem 2 days ago and when I plugged it into the telstra wall socket, as instructed by telstra support, it is not connected. Now they are going to hit me with another $240 service call out fee because their cable wall socket don't work. I have asked a total cancellation as i was told, prior to signing up, by the sale team that I could easily connect up the modem myself as there is already cable into my home. I will stick with TPG until their Nbn is available.

    • You're hard to please

  • Anyone moved from iinet ADSL to Telsra ADSL using this deal ?
