  • I'm on the prepaid 365 day one with Aldi and in case anyone was wondering, I've had no problems with signal or anything, it's been fantastic, and them rates is v sexy.

  • Couldn't find a provider other then Vodafone which includes Sri Lanka under 'selected countries' when providing free international minutes. Does anyone aware of anything other than vodafone which does this?

  • Does anyone aware of anything other than vodafone which does this?

    Say what? Try Lebara.

  • Any $5 plan with unlimited local and international calls + 2GB data?

    • +2

      Ahahahaha

      One day mayb.

      • -3

I'm already using this plan from another carrier for $5 a month.

        • $5/mth
          For unlimited calls?
          What carrier?

(Sounds too good to be true)

        • What carrier and how?

        • @chinezejew: Lebara I suspect. Lebara had promotion few weeks back.

        • +1

The expired Amaysim deal for X TPG users. I paid $29.90 for 6 months!

  • -2

    AVOID like the plague.
It has been years and they're yet to figure out a way to connect my Grandfathers service up due to him not having a 'normal' address and living in a home!
    YEARS!
Their post sales support over the phone, in store and online for this service is beyond deplorable!

    • +6

How can post sales support be deplorable if he's not connected up with them? Just curious. Why have you not gone elsewhere if it's been years?

      • That's the issue.
They wouldn't connect him despite purchasing a starter kit.
They refused to refund it as well.
        We ALL have!
Several family members and I were with them, were!

        • +5

Geeze, it's time to let it go now.

Just sell the $5 SIM that's causing you all this angst.

        • +3

Why didnt you just set it up under your name and address and hand it to him?

        • -1

          @Duff5000:
          @llama:
It's not just a $5 SIM, yet also a 365 day recharge as well, which they would allow me to start the process under my Grandfathers name, yet refused to go any further/actually connect the service once under his name until they got a 'standard' residential address!
They're a pack of useless incompetent arseholes,

        • +1

          @086:

So, why not just use your address? does it make any difference?

        • -1

          @Duff5000:

Yes, they required ID forthe address.
          They're a PITA.

        • @086: Isn't there a legal requirement on carriers to have a proper address on record for every subscriber? Your grandad's not a known terrorist is he?

        • @Gershom:
Hardly, yet they didn't accept a retirement care facility acceptable.

        • @086: you can change his id or license at the rta or online, they mail you out the stickers. Scan or photo, problem solved?!

    • +1

Never had to speak to a support team member in the past 8-9 months I have been with the Aldi mobile.
Very happy with the coverage so far!

  • What's the difference in coverage compared to Optus?

Although coverage maps may be similar among providers, I've found worse coverage on Virgin/Vodafone when I used to use them (years ago so may be very different now). If Telstra Wholesale provides a more consistent experience, it may be worth a move.

  • +3

Nice, time to switch from vaya

    • i'm with vaya too. so far so good. reason might i ask? optus to telstra?

  • Is immediate call forwarding to another number an extra cost? (Spintel charge for this)
Can you use these plans for business?

    • call forwarding actually is charge on two number, the caller and the number who put the call forwarding on. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • Can you use these plans for business?

    Nope.

    • Will stick with iinet at $30/month then

    • What prevents them from being used for business?

      • +1

        Their Ts&Cs.

5.1. The Service is provided for the benefit of residential users and is not for commercial use

  • +1

$20 a month not bad. Think im paying $22 for live connected 1.5gb still. Might be worth swapping just to access Telstras superior network

  • +2

I make about $5 of calls a year. Have just switched to Aldi PAYG

Love the 365 day expiry of credit

    • I use the Telstra Prepaid longlife option for $70/year for the same reason, from a quick look it seems I could spend just $15/year with Aldi… am I understanding that right?!

      • +1

You can spend $5 a year with Aldi…

At least $5 for the first year (cost of SIM).

Maybe $15 each year from then…

  • I think M is the sweet spot for value, unless you make lots of calls get L.
Unfortunately no 4G where I'm currently located(regional NSW) but the extra inclusions make this worthwhile.

  • I have Boost locked phone Sony Xperia E4. As both Aldi and Boost use the same telstra network, any suggestion if Aldi sim will work in this phone?

    • +1

You can get a sim for $5 and try it out.

  • So for example the M plan comes with $20 credit which can be spent on extra data, or phone calls? Can this also be spent on the Google play store??? Apolgoies if this has been asked already :)

    • +2

      I think that's a Telstra thing only.

      • Is anyone able to confirm?

    • +1

You pay them $20, and you get $20 of credit on your account.

The M plan costs $20. You spend that $20 Credit on a value pack called the "M", which costs $20.

After you use your $20 credit buying the M Value Pack, you have no credit.

If you just load $20 credit and don't buy the Value Pack, then you will have no credit left after a few calls and texts at the standard rates.

  • Can iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S use 4G?

    • They will work on the network but won't be able to take advantage of the 4G speeds. Both the iPhone 4 and 4S are only capable of 3G speeds.

  • +1

Read the agreement completely and make sure you turn off the location services. I had an aldi prepaid sim before and i remember when i bought a 30 dollar prepaid and within a week all my credit had gone because aldi kept charging me 15 cents every 2 hours for just being connected to the aldi network. Be careful as i know many mates who had the same issue, extremely cunning aldi are at making a bit of quick money. All you need to do is disable the location services and make sure theres no other weird charges that can occur from use of their network.

    • Don't you need that on for things like gps and such?

    • +1

You are right that that used to happen, but they don't do that any more. It was also due to (then) charging per MB. Now they charge per KB and don't appear to bother about a location ping.

  • Can someone explain how this is a good deal? Aren't most mobile carriers doing $25 with 2GB per month?

    • +2

      No..
      Apart from Vaya maybe.

  • Can order sim now and activate after 28th April to get new plans?

What happens to the $5 SIM starter credit? Can it go towards your first month?

    • The sim starter credit of $5 goes to the PAYG Credit for 365 days base Plan. You have to have this credit to buy a value pack of you choice for the next 30 days.

      • Thanks! So it's essentially the sim card fee if you're just going to be on a value pack…

        • +3

Sort of. Lets look at it this way, say you do not buy a value pack next month, if u make a call it will use an amount of the $5.
So if you make a call that uses up the entire $5 you will have to add money to the base plane before you can buy another value pack.

The money from the base plan is also used if you make international calls.

The base plane can not be at zero.

  • Awsesome!

  • Just want to confirm, is their stupid weekend data split being removed, and you just get a bulk amount of data for the month?

    • +1

Yes!…..No weekend data. Just what you get with the value pack for the month.

    • +1

Weekend data is now attached to the monthly data from this week.

  • Can someone tell me what happens when you run out of data? As I understand it if you run out of data on a value pack it starts eating the PAYG value (which I assume will remain at $5 for the year?) so 100mb later the phone service is expired. Is this correct? If you run out of any portion of the value pack is the entire pack expired? Can you stop data eating the PAYG value so the phone service isn't expired? I'd like it if it started eating the call credit on the value pack but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can imagine this might be trouble for a few of my family members…

    • 1Gb = $10
      I imagine you'll be charged another $10.

      • No, You must BUY more data if you want more data. It is PREPAID.

You need to make sure you don't run out of data or calls at "Value Pack" rates, because if so then it uses casual rates until all your Prepaid Credit is gone.

    • +1

You will receive a txt message informing you that data is approaching full usage. You can then turn off data or buy more.
With the old plans you could not buy extra data until you used 70%, but now you can buy extra data anytime.

      • thanks guys

  • +1

I have been with Aldi mobile since July last year. Never had any issues with the coverage around Canberra.

  • So with this plan I know there's no international roaming and you can't make/send international calls/sms, but does that mean if you're overseas and your phone is on you won't receive sms (for bank stuff)?

Also with auto recharge, does it recharge on the same day every month (like with Boost etc) or does it do it a day early when there's 31 days in the month?

    • Correct

    • You can make/send international calls/sms but you use your base plan money, not from the value pack.
Every 30 days you are billed.

Not sure about the overseas question you asked sorry.

    • you can't make/send international calls/sms,

Yes you can, charged to the $5 PAYG money that you paid when you bought the sim.

  • " 2.The examples shown are if you use your included credit to only make calls. You can use your credit for any combination of national calls, SMS, MMS and voicemail. Equivalent rates are: Standard National Fixed Line, Mobile and Voicemail Call rates are 10c per minute, the cost of making a 2 minute call is 20c. Standard National SMS rates are 10c per SMS, Standard National MMS rates are 30c per MMS and Standard National Video MMS rates are 60c per Video MMS. "

Is that mean I can use the credit to do International calls or 1300xxx, etc?

  • Just for clarity, no international roaming means there is no connection to the telephone network at all, hence no data calls or SMS in or out.

  • +1

I'm glad I didn't sign up with kogan now. :)

  • I am with boost mobile at the moment, very happy with it. How does ALDI Compare? Anybody made the switch?

    • Aldi has less coverage than boost, which has full coverage of telstra.

      • What about speeds?

        • Aldi has access to 700 lte, so speed should be same.

      • +1

Aldi has less coverage than boost, which has full coverage of telstra.

That was the case with the 3G service, we don't yet know if it's the same with the 4G service.

        • No confirmed msg that Telstra will restrict 4g service like 3g.
Still, in terms of coverage, nobody has concern about 4g, as there is very little 4g only cells.

  • +1

The issue with Aldimobile data is that even if you turn the data off in Android phone, it keep calling home for some reason and I get billed for the data that I did not use. The only way to turn this off completely is to destroy the Access point setting (APN). I have contacted Aldi about this and they are just unhelpful.

    • What sort of phone DK? I never had a problem with a Nexus 5.

      • Samsung note 4. You would not notice if you have 500mb plan. I have my young son on this 365days pay as you go plan where each episode of a few bytes of data count as 1mb. Soon my money was all eaten up.

    • +1

May be is your phone doing it. What kind of phone you have? China one?

    • +1

This happened to me on amaysim, i had to call and get it switched off from their end. They refunded the used credit for this. Have to admit amaysim have pretty good customer service and your comment about this is making me think twice about switching.

It was explained to me that your apps search for updates every hour or so. This way it can inform you that it has a "vital update needed"

    • never happened to me.

  • Currently I use the S pack for $15 and the wife uses the XL at $35. She doesn't need the XL for the data, just for the minutes. After the 28th I'm switching hers to the unlimited $25 plan. Gotta love $40 a month for both phones.

  • How is the autorecharging with Aldi Value Packs?

Does it kick in quickly after expiration so you don't end up using your Pay As You Go Credit?

If you chew up the data on the Value Pack does the recharge kick in? I would rather be without data for a bit than pay for a extra Value Pack. I think according to the T&Cs you move data use to your Pay As You Go when data is used up or you can buy a data top up, but not clear what happens if autorecharge was set up.

    • +1

Auto recharge works fine, except when they've changed their terms to reduce package contents. Happened to my wife's account a few times over the last 3 years. This time they've promised the auto recharges will work and you have to turn it off if you want to change plans.

The auto recharge only happens when the time runs out. If you've used your minutes or (more likely) data, that's when you'll burn your PAYG credit. They send me an SMS when I'm halfway thru my data but I do not recall whether that's something I set myself or if everyone gets that.

  • Is AldiMobile unlimited/SMS to every service eg Vodaphone,Telstra,Optus? Can someone confirm this please. and can we buy the recharge in another store instead of Aldi? Cause i don't shop at Aldi but this is a great deal

    • Is AldiMobile unlimited/SMS to every service eg Vodaphone,Telstra,Optus?
      yes.

can we buy the recharge in another store instead of Aldi?

no, but you can recharge on line, via phone, or set up auto recharge on a cc.

      • is this auto rechardge? can we recharge when the offer ends like 30days? and is the sim card free to get online?

      • OK, your 'no' answer is about to stop me from ordering this deal …. yet. Was your 'no' to the first part of ShaunN's question, or the second part? You quoted both parts of his question and only answered one part, starting with 'no'. I am interested in the first part so can we do ALDImobile unlimited SMS to other carriers or no?

        • Unlimited sms to other carriers I just changed over from Telstra and won't be going back. Giving the $15 prepaid a go as I don't make that many calls and 30 days expiry is the way it should be.

        • @ausbob71: Thanks. That part in his response kinda confused me.

        • Look closer, I answered yes to the first part. When I did a second quote the site joined them together. Go figure

        • @Gershom: O, I see now. Sorry, I saw the quoted part and thought that whole part was the other person's original writing. Ta

  • Looks like Jenee just released plans on the Optus 4G network similar to these plans-

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244634

    Competition is good.

  • Pity the international rates are so poor compared to Amaysim.
Does anyone know whether the international calls come out of the "credit", or are charged in addition to it?

    • See earlier answer to this question.

    • Agree, the international content is a joke. I certainly wouldn't select a plan for that. We use another provider for international called Ring Britain. Rates vary a bit by country but the ones we call are just over 1 cent per minute.

  • Somehow my phone only got one bar reception on 4G but 3-4 bars on 3G. Only noticed recently because they rolled out 4G.

  • -1

is this auto rechardge? can we recharge when the offer ends like 30days? and is the sim card free to get online?

  • Got my sim today. I am in regional Tas and get the same signal strength as I do with my prepaid Telstra sim. I'll be switching over as soon as my month with Telstra runs out.
