Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 32GB $70/Month 8GB Unlimited SMS/Calls 24 Months with Woolworths + $100 Woolworths Dollars, Ends Tonight

1980

I was clicking around to activate the $2 woolworths sim I picked up on Ozbargain a month ago and noticed an S7 edge plan that is cheaper than the Virgin offer posted here the other day, thought I'd better share.

Deal also includes bonus Samsung VR gear with an RRP of $159

Woolworths employees can use their staff card as a discount code in the rewards card field to get 10% off bringing this to $63/month

This plan only includes $10 international credit, if you were after more the Virgin plan for $77/month includes $300 and might be better value for you, listed here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/253732

      • I not sure if I will be using VR Gear, but now if I buy from retailer for $949 then i will get the VR Gear for sure.
        Thanks Solarius

        • Are you getting Australian stock for $949? The cheapest Australian stock I have seen so far is exeltek at $1095.

        • @rememberme: Actually, I am. There is a chrome app call I'll pay where you kind of tell them how much you would like to pay for the product, and they negotiate with most retailers such as JB, GG, HN, OW, and BL.

        • @Clementt: And it works? That should be its own post

  • +1

Ugh $10 dollars of international call is a deal breaker to me. If it was included as part of the credit, I would have no issues pulling the trigger now

    • They have a $10 add-on for $200 worth of calls so you add it only if you need it instead of including it in the plan base cost. Worthwhile for me as I would only add it when my dad is overseas so I'd only pay an additional $20 per year.

  • i know its part of telstra but is woolworths mobile actually good?

    • using prepaid for 3 weeks, no complaints.. around Melbourne Area ( am not heavy call users (2-3 calls a day) nor data ( under 1.5 gb pm))

      • Does it says "Woolworths" as the carrier on your phone? Just wondering if it says Telstra or Woolies.

        • +2

          woolworths

        • -1

Do you mean at the top close to 4g? Telstra

    • +1

It is the same network you get with Aldi Mobile and Telechoice, not the 'full' Telstra network.

In my experience it still beats Optus, but of course depends on location

  • So i haven't changed my mobile carrier for 5 years… Is it possible to Port your existing number across?

    If so, how?

    • +2

say you are with Vodafone and wanted to switch to woolworths/telstra.

Buy this plan online and you will be asked if you want new number or own. Select Own and ENTER your mobile number.. and proceed.

    • +2

When you sign up you put in your current phone number and account number for existing carrier. Just bought one for the Mrs. Cheers OP!

    • Thanks. Done!

One other question. Because I have always bought my handset outright. What happens when the 24 months is up. You still get charged $70 a month ? they will offer you a different phone?

      • +3

They'll probably try to keep charging you if you don't speak up, but keep an eye on it when you're approaching 24 months and then port out to a $25 prepaid sim or something if you're stil happy with the handset.

Alternatively you can usually upgrade to a newer handset (and keep this one as a spare or sell it) with about 2-3 months to go if you agree to sign a new contract with Woolies.

  • Hello Champs,

There should be a credit check done on our name to get this approved? Is that correct?
I guess it will counted as a credit lookup on our account.

Just checking as my credit score is fairly okay and I dont want it to be affected more.

    Thanks

    • correct, with veda

  • -6

Paying $1680 within 24 months is no bargains!

  • Have no clue about this stuff.
My current Galaxy S5 Telstra plan runs out in October. Worth jumping ship now?
    Thanks everyone.

Edit - sorry, off to work and just saw this so rushing here.

  • +1

I don't suppose anyone knows if the phones are locked to Telstra?

    • +2

      unlocked

      • +1

yeah the live chat guy just confirmed phones are unlocked.

      • Cheers. Wasn't keen on the S7 Edge because Samsung apparently dropped DualShock 4 support.

  • Virgin deal had data rollover. So most months you'd actually have say 9-12gb depending on your usage.

I'm on the 10gb/$40 Virgin sim plan. Most months I've got 12-15gb to use!

    • +1

Not possible to have roll over most months if you actually use it.

If you have 8gb a month, only use 5, then next month you will have 13gb.
If you use under 8gb you will have rollover again, if you use more than 8gb, you wont have any the next month.

  • +5

I was just talking on the live chat to a virgin mobile rep to see if they would match this deal (i was 99% sure they wouldnt) and she claimed that virgin had a bunch of new better deals coming out tomorrow. She wouldnt tell me exactly what they were, so who knows if they will actually be good. But it could be worth waiting a little bit as this doesnt expire until 8pm on the 23rd of june.

    • Where are you seeing the expiry of 8pm 23rd of June? All I can see is "Offer valid for approved Woolworths Phone Plan applications on 22nd June and 23rd June only".

If that's the case where the deal will be valid until tomorrow evening, I'll wait before pulling the trigger.

      • +1

I asked on the woolworths mobile live chat, because i wanted to see if virgin actually had anything decent and they told me 8pm on the 23rd

        • I'll add this to the title, good to know

    • Can someone confirm this deal is live till tomorrow 8PM? I want to check the virgin offer as well…………..!

  • Bloody hell that's cheap. Great first post OP. Thanks!

  • -6

32GB storage phone for 2 years contract, meh.

    • +3

do realise that you can whack a 200gb sd card into it if you needed to right?

      • Quality user name champ. Btw 200gb storage is massive!

  • Signed up to port from Optus prepaid, great deal, thanks OP.

  • just cancel virgin order, but when I sign woolworth deal, credit check page pop out, can not let me go through, WTF! my wife eighter

anyway waiting for tomorrow, what new deal virgin will come out?

I think virginmobile currently look my credit , then woolworh cannot pass at same time. is it possible? there is no any credit issue for me and my wife.

  • OMG
    This is OP DEAL!!!

    Thanks!!

  • Do any Oolworths stores stock these mobiles?

    • +1

The new renovated Top Ryde woolies store has woolworths mobile section with display phones, but not sure if they are actually holding any new headset at the store.

  • Good deal, if my maths is right.
If you you were to buy this outright.
Virgin or similar $40 plan, will make it $30 for the handset and is $720 over 24 months, plus the extra $100 to make it $620.

  • its $63 for woolworths employees with the staff discount card

  • I have the samsung s6 edge..
Just wondering whether should I join the bandwagon?
Is there any great difference between the S6 edge and S7 edge.. any cutting edge for me to push to buy this.. so tempting offer

    • +1

I have the s6 edge gold, upgraded just simply because the 32GB wasnt enough, the expandable memory is the winner for me here, also the 8GB data,

What im on is, 30$ telstra for 3GB/1.5day/1.5night every "28"days, I can sell this phone for $500circa~

So its worth it for me.. Going for silver after my current gold one :)

    • +5
      1. Water resistant (no caps or flaps)
      2. Micro SD Card support
      3. Screen is bigger (5.5 as compared to previous 5.1)
      4. Bigger battery (3600 compared to 2650(?))
      5. Faster camera (best auto focus on the market and quality is best, look online for sample pics)
      6. Samsung Pay (WITH MST; if I recall correctly, the S6/S6edge do not have the MST support in the Australian models)
      7. Comes with the bonus VR

These are the 7 points i can remember on the top of my head. Have a look on their website for more information.
There is no IR blaster, so if you relied on that for your everyday tele then you're out of luck.

      • +1

        Also approx 30% faster CPU.

The S6 edge is still quite capable, the main difference is the SD card slot, everything else is incremental.

  • So…..what colour should I buy?

    • Silver without doubt

    • Rose gold ;)

  • So I signed up for this deal.. Hopefully not too long delivery like the $30 sim pack.. Or else I might miss out on the VR promo pack from the redeem bit from samsung website as it ends 30th JUNE

    • +2

The form generally can be filled out 2-3 weeks after the promotion. The important part is that the product must be proven to be purchased within the promotion period.

    • +2

I purchased today and filled up the form at Samsung website for the VR right away.

They have an option to say "I will fill up the IMEI later" or something similar.

  • The "$10 worth included international credit" is equivalent to $200 worth in Woolworths Prepaid.

  • can anyone confirm that you can't use a wish giftcard to pay ?

    • +2

just so others may want to find out, can't pay by wish giftcard

  • +1

So happy I purchased mine last Wednesday… Not! For $71/month I get 1gb of data and $1000 of calls. Really lame Woolworths. You should maybe extend today's deal to everyone that purchased in June and feels ripped off now.

    • +1

      But is the phone good?

      • Yes, but I'd prefer an extra 7gb per month too

    • +4

Contact woolies mobile and see if they'll upgrade your plan to the current offer. You may have to pay $71 per month because they won't change contract price.

  • +1

jumped in with this deal, almost did with Virgin a few days ago.
Got the Gold one. Hopefully get it by this Friday. Wishful thinking i know

  • Top deal, this is a time when phone plus plan is ahead of buying this phone and searching for best plan.

  • I gather the discount card is different to the Woolworths rewards card?

    • same thing

    • They are different. The discount card is a team member discount card.

  • Does anyone know if there are any GPS issues with this phone? I am having trouble with my Nexus 5 frequently so was looking to get a new phone with modern internals, so hopefully this will do the trick? I don't want to end up in the same situation as right now.

    • I had issues on my galaxy s4 which were fixed with a modem update.

Custom roms generally don't include it, so if you rooted it a while ago it may be out of date

  • +1

damn this must be a really good deal cause vodafone can't match it

  • Can I used my friend's Team member card number and put it in the rewards card field to get the $63 per month plan?
Will the $100 be then credited into my friend's rewards account?
Can I get a new number first and then port my existing number over a few months later?
    Can anyone clarify this?

    Thanks

    • yes with the card, yes to the $100, no to the number

  • +1

Any Woolworths staff member willing to share their staff code to get the discount?
Edit: looks like I wont be able to get the $100 if I use someone else card

  • +1

Anyone manage to get the phone for $63?

    • -7

This girl working at Woolies Leura Mall allowed me to use her staff rewards card while I signed up, so i got for $63/mo.
I offered her a $50 because I saved like more that $150 and she looked like she needed it, but she wont accept.

      • +1

she will get the $100 woolworths dollars though :)

        • -5

aah ! what a relief to know ! My conscience was killing me because I noticed her phone was a non-touch screen with most numbers worn out.
How much do they earn anyways ? 25k/pa ?

        • @OzDayZee: That is so charitable of you.

Maybe she doesn't need a touch screen phone and prefers to spend her money on other lifestyle activities such as maybe travel or being a car enthusiast or a mortgage or something else???

          25k/pa is $12.65 per hour.

You do know that nobody in Australia legally works for that right?

        • +1

@OzDayZee: She'll be lucky to keep her job after doing that.

        • @crayner: Especially when he's mentioned what store. Pretty easy to track now.

        • @OzDayZee:
          What a moron

        • @Rog1995:

jeez.. relax guys… I also use her D/L to sign up because my credit check wont go through. So the phone is hers. Only the credit card is mine.

        • +1

@OzDayZee: Unfortunately The problem is by posting this on a public forum that Woolworths representatives monitor, you have put her job in jeopardy after she has done you a favor…

  • -1

Mehh.. I'm on a $16.41 per month plan for 24 months with a brand new LG G4 and 6gb 4G and 1000 calls. All thanks to ozbargain and the great people who contribute…Good enough for me.

Phone cost - $370 plus 24 x $30 woolies starter packs purchased for $1 each… You do the math.

    • -1

I thought I'm the only smart shopper on Ozbargain, but you're just as good. Happy saving!

      • +1

Clearly our neggers hate saving money

        • +3

I'm guessing the people who upvoted this deal could be WW employees or related to them. I can't see any bargain to pay $1680 in 24 months. The phone price will fall in 2 months time after the release of Galaxy Note 7. We might able to buy plenty of $2 SIM with 6GB data + $1000 calls within the contract period. Even a 3 year old can to do the math. It's a no-brainer.

Anyway, I just saved $1680 for not following the puppets.

        • +1

@PW: yes while we all like a good bargain, not all of us want the hassle of changing sims/ numbers every month. And just because you think people shouldn't pay $1680 over 2 years for a phone doesn't mean its not a bargain. Its cheaper than its regular price and competitors i.e. a bargain. and of course you can always wait a few months for something to be cheaper but at some point you do have to choose to buy it, instead of always waiting.

    • So you have a new number each month?

    • My LG G4 just died, hopefully yours last longer. Bought from QD_AU, came from Taiwan. I hope they can replace it under warranty.

      • Mine is lasting longer, you gotta try some Climax effect.

      • @skdreams same happened to my g4 from qd_au just a week ago. Supposedly they'll send it to Taiwan…

        • I guess that was a bad batch. Mine just stopped connecting to any mobile networks, rest of the phone worked ok. The seller didn't respond until I lodged an ebay complaint

  • So with plans like this, can you put the sim in any phone and, for example, sell the S7?

    • +1

      sure can

    • +1

      Yes, you can

      Phone is unlocked too

  • I signed up and the process was just too smooth. Just got the signup emails. Good Deal OP, i hope the handset arrives soon as well.

  • -1

Why is this phone so expensive?

  • -5

I might be blind but cannot see how this deal is super great?
This is how i see it.

    1680 - 100 = 1580 over 24 months
    sell the phone and VR 950 = 630 / 24 months

So all up its 26.5/month for 8gb of data and unlimited calls/sms. Is that right??

    • +7

You don't see how $26.7/m for 8GB of data and unlimited national calls/sms is great?

      Ok then.

  • Does Woolies have access to Telstra's 4GX?

If you look at the coverage maps here:
    WW - https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/coverage.html
    Telstra - https://www.telstra.com.au/coverage-networks/our-coverage#co…

Even though they're both coloured in green, WW have 4G 700MHz at 2-50Mbps, but Telstra 4GX 700Mhz at 2-75Mbps

  • +1

My only concern with the SG7 is the heartache if an (profanity) decides to lift it. Just over a week ago my 2 year old SG3 (dont you dare laugh!), which was gifted to a good old friend, was stolen from her staff lunch room. Her previous mobile was left on a bus seat (working long hours many kms from home, and hubby recently lost his job). What is it with these assholes hey?!

I have a new SG5 now, which i just love. Buying it on a 24 month $40 plan from Vodafone for $2 a month extra (listed as $5 a month but I am a mean customer). And no! i wont ever leave it unguarded in a staff lunch room .. ever! Trust no one.

Ps. The profanity is the same word I used later in my text, which is the same word the baby in the Fockers said?! I thought i was being super nice too.

Pps. All Vodafone phones are unlocked.
