Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming Video/Graphics Cards GV-N1070G1 GAMING-8GD. Good price, believe the exchange rate is decent and likely to drop in coming weeks (closer it gets to 80cents to the US dollar). I ordered one myself after weeks of patient sitting. hope this is a good post!

  • Its still not as good as the "Founders" edition!!! the best card in the world and well worth the extra $100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFzp2nKbAuM

    not~ :3

I got the G1 GTX 1070 from Amazon. Great card and much better value than paying $750 at the local brick and mortar shop.

  • i'm getting 446 USD which equates to $585 aud? is something wrong?

    • +4

Nothing is wrong, the OP probably was just using Amazon's own currency conversion, which if you have a foreign transaction fee free card, you should never use.

      • +1

I did, don't really have any other cards. Not sure which is the best card to sign up for foreign transactions. Any advice would be appreciated!

        • +2

          28 Degrees.

Good thing is, it comes with shopper's protection. If it goes on special within something like 6 months (and believe me, it will), you get the price difference refunded to you.

        • +2

          @lostn:

I believe price protection only works on local stock? can anyone confirm?

        • @lostn: Sorry, which goes on special? The credit card or the graphics card? Thanks mate, appreciate the advice

        • +1

          @mikkim4eva:

Yeah is for local stock only last time I checked.

        • +1

@mikkim4eva: yep only stores with an aus tax invoice and abn

      • Can you let us know what's a good foreign transaction fee free card? I know of 28 degrees but apparently there'll soon be annual fees and such.

I bought yesterday, it was shipped today morning.

Just watch out for warranty, you will have to send them back to Amazon for warranty issues as Gigabyte sent me an email response that they do not service grey imports.

    • +5

Unsure why you've been negged. It's a valid concern. EVGA is an international warranty - might be better for some.

      • +2

Not sure but I'm telling the fact, infact I can upload my copy of email enquiry if anyone is interested.

        • I would be interested to see a copy of that email from Gigabyte
Their website leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to describing warranty

        • @cloudie9:
Wow -.- that's gotta be one of the shittiest warranty policies I've come across!!

Thanks for the info mate, saved me from making a mistake
1 year warranty through Amazon just isn't enough for me

    • +3

That's the risk you take with almost all stuff from Amazon.

It's not as bad as it sounds though. They ship a brand new one out instantly, once you mark an item for return. If you buy an item locally, you won't get a brand new replacement unless it's within DOA period which is usually 7 days. You have to wait for it to get sent back, repaired, refurbed, and back to you, through all the middle men in the chain along the way and back.

      • +1

Is this an official process? Or just anecdotal? Curious, as someone in the other thread was saying that after 30 days you have to deal with the manufacturer for warranty claims.

        • +1

It's one year with Amazon I believe, after which you have to deal with manufacturer.

It's definitely more than 30 days. Just in my order history right now, I am able to return items shipped more than 30 days ago.

  • Hope AMD bring out some competitive video cards to drive the prices down a bit.

    • Not supposed to be coming out with anything high end till "Vega", which is rumoured to be an October release (brought forward from January next year)

    • They mainly compete on value, not raw performance.

      • They usually bring out something similar (390x vs 980) at a cheaper price
That seems to be their tactic

        • They do, but it always loses to its nVidia counterpart.

        • @lostn:
          Depends on the resolution actually
          390x handily beats the 980 above 1440p (roughly a draw at 1440p)

And it depends what you call "losing", because it's still cheaper, usually significantly so (980 was $800 when the 390x was $600)
Given that it traded blows with it, for cheaper, I wouldn't call that losing

        • @Rail Rider95: By 'losing' I mean FPS is lower at the same settings. I don't consider price in the conversation.

AMD handpicks benchmarks where it wins, like DX12 version of Ashes of the Singularity. Everywhere else, it's a little bit behind.

But if the benchmark is FPS per dollar, AMD usually wins.

That is why I said "They mainly compete on value, not raw performance."

Raw performance is irrespective of price. Value considers price.

And your 390x vs 980 resolution comparison also depends on the game being tested. Pretty much everything I see has the 980 ahead.

        • @lostn:
Have a flick through these benchmarks mate:
          http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_r9_390x_str…

Split roughly 50/50 of which card wins

  • This item does not ship to Brisbane, Australia???

  • This does not ship to Perth or Adelaide either? Why is it even posted here?

    • +3

It's out of stock with Amazon, so when that happens it reverts to another seller. The vast majority of them won't ship outside of the US.

So the deal is legit, it should just be marked as expired as its out of stock with Amazon themselves.

Edit - scratch that, it's still on back order from Amazon, for some reason the link isn't going to them. If you look to the right it'll have "other sellers on Amazon" and the first one should be 'sold by Amazon.com" for the price that is listed in this deal.

What is the RRP for the 1070 and 1080 in Australia ? Has that information been released. Surely the local > $700 asking price for a 1070 is just price gouging while stock is low.

Damn this thread … I've been stalking Amazon for the last few days, not really in a position to buy, but looking forward to the 1060 release to see what pricing was in store. Had a few cards in my cart, comparing to Newegg, even considering 2 x RX 480s … in the end I pulled the trigger. Gigabyte one has increased in price, so I ended up paying another 30 bucks for the MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G, which has a nice overclock, quality cooler and good reviews. I trust MSI as much as Gigabyte anyway, and now I don't have to worry about the longevity I get from a 1060 (especially considering it is a gimped card compared to what it should have been), or the risk of bad CF support with 2 x RX 480s. Even got the nod of approval from the Minister of War and Finance. Thanks OP, for posting this and bringing my procrastination to a point. Was going quite mad reading about video cards.
