I know there's a bunch of people on here being critical of price increases before the discount, but I managed to snag a couple of bargains: Samsung 850 evo 500gm SSD for $184 (cheapest on StaticIce is $204 before shipping) and an LG 25" wide monitor for $207 (cheapest on StaticIce is $269 before shipping).

If you're selective, then there's stuff on here that looks pretty good, but it might be in the minority.

    • +1

      Samsung 850 evo 500gm SSD for $184

      $169/$157 after cashback from Zapals

    • +4

It's great you got a bargain jzbar, but the issue I have with them is that they're deliberately misleading everyone by saying 20% off after jacking up the prices. Because overall you haven't really saved 20% compared to what their previous prices were.

It's no different to me running a business, marking up the usual prices by 40% then giving 50% off so customers think they're getting a bargain.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kogan even marked up the RRP price for further deception lol

      • +3

Wasn't defending the practice, mate. I was just stating that there are some savings to be made.

  • +3

Jack up prices then offer discount? Not a bargain.

  • +4

And I thought I couldn't think lower of Kogan, a 10 year old would know not to do this to a customer base, brand image is everything. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul.

  • -3

Upvote because TA? or downvote because DSE/Kogan? hmmmmmmm

  • +4
    • I think they want to recoup that $32,400 fine by trying this stunt on us lol

  • Price rise, no deal.

  • +2

Price increased. No deal. They should be fined

  • +2

    Prices look inflated.

  • +2

They really do take their customers for fools.

Not ALL publicity is GOOD publicity!

  • +1

Fyi to everyone: They're not jacking up prices from anything, this is a new store, which I feel like they're entering the market with a 20% off coupon but they're also entering with 15%+ prices on the entire market.

Kogan ebay store can be had without the 15% and without the 20%.

I dare say after this offer subsides, they'll reduce the 15% off and just mirror Kogan ebay store prices.

  • Their prices for grey import phones are much higher than that of other overseas sellers. Even with %20 off, a Sony Z5 still ends up about $50 more than a grey import from a reputable seller was yesterday (with 10% off). I also don't think they are being sufficiently explicit about the phones being grey imports.

  • +2

What LG G4 $541 before discount.

Kogan really want to get fines again

  • +2

Putting a comment just to neg this deal. Checked the smartphone prices and they are almost inline with au stock with 2 years warranty. No deal.

  • +4

Neg for jacking up the prices. This kind of thing is illegal in the UK. Can't believe they get away with it here.

  • +6

It deserves a neg for the chrome cast pricing alone.

  • I love this community, all the neg make me know this is not a bargain site :)

    • +3

      huh?

  • Surface Pro 4 i5 128GB seems a good deal - $1155.20

    • It is, but it was available locally for cheaper than that with HN gift card rebate.

This is a grey import. You decide if it's a big enough saving, after 20% off.

  • 520 for 16GB iphone SE worth it? or should I wait for price drop after iphone 7?

  • +3

    Prices jacked up, not deal.

  • +3

Prices are rubbish for grey imported items.

  • +3

macbook pro 2.7ghz 256gb ssd marked up to 2323 (~1850 after "20% off"). not even australian stock and/or apple warranty.

  • +3

    They never learn

  • +3

Massive price markups. Hardly a deal if the unaware is fooled.

This shouldn't be encouraged and their so called "bargains" shouldn't be given such exposure.

  • I think just be sensible and vote with your wallet, don't buy and perhaps ruslan kogan will get the message and cease conducting deceptive sales tactics. Simples.

  • Now that, my friend, is the true dick spirit.

I'm glad he finally found his real identity.

  • Funny how DS still gets negged on OzB.

  • Pity the 55" Samsung panel isn't in stock - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/254828

  • Looked intel NUC: $307 delivered. With discount it will be 245.6
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-5th-Gen-Pentium-N3700-NUC-B…

Most of the retailers have this for around same price if you can pick up.
    http://cplonline.com.au/intel-boxnuc5ppyh-nuc-n3700-barebone…

Even on the Kogan's website, it is listed much cheaper:
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/intel-nuc-mini-pc-desktop-kit-w…
Not sure why they did it. Taken they think people dont search before buying.

Nothing against the OP, but this is a fake sale…

  • -5

But yet the Z5 is cheaper then the deal from Mobileciti and all this hate? Don't hate TA! Hate the company Kogan and Dicksmith! This BAD attitude is why i don't bother posting deals here that often!

    • +1

I think people are negging post, not poster. Kogan/Dicksmith deserves that.
Also OP has posted great deals in the past and this one is really bad.

    • Of cource Grey import mobile is cheaper than local stock.

      • -1

People are having a go at TA you have to read the comments that are downsized.

  • +3

Noticed the high number of negs so had to come here to check it out. Dick Smith must feel great now that Kogan is continuing in his namesake!

  • Again

If you are placing a negative vote ensure you explain it, otherwise it will be revoked. Refer to negative vote guidelines

  • +3

Just bought the iPad Pro 9.7" 128G Wifi. Paid $882.40 after 20% disc. Checked Apple site, $1,149. That works at 23.20% disc. plus 1.25% cashback. Not bad!

  • +2

Wow… Kogan Dick is up to their old tricks again.

Price hike during a 20% off on ebay.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-New-3DS-XL-Console-Black…

    $282 for a New 3DS???

  • +4

Prices jacked up, no bargain here lads.

  • +5

    This is disgraceful!

$282 is even more than RRP
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-New-3DS-XL-Console-Black…

  • +3

just be aware, Kogan can cancel your order at any time, and give you a $10 kogan voucher. it happens to me earlier, after 20 days, they still not shipping out my Gear S2 classic watch, when i tracing up, they told me, no stock, and kogan do the refund plus $10 kogan voucher. the fun thing is, i checked with Kogan, about 10 days time, the reply from Kogan told me, they will ship it out shortly. but after 20 days, no stock? what a joke!

    • +1

good report…. I think i may stick with OW for just few dolloars more…

  • +1

checked a few items.. why are the www listings cheaper then the ebay listings even after ebay fee's and delivery.

    • Yeeaaaaaahh…..
Soo thats why ebay listings can be a bit expensive compared to www listings to recover some costs. Not sure why you are trying to convey.

  • +1

Every time this is a scam.
Nice feedback of the seller though 100% positive!…. oh wait only 3 feedback…

    • +3

Correction: now at 75% positive feedback.

      • Correction: back to 100% with feedback manipulation. Poor guy have negative after not getting discount for this deal on his ssd, which has now been removed.

I wonder how much negative feedback just 'disappears' with big retails in bed with eBay.

  • +1

i think the price for the R9 380 msi 4 gb is quite good for 230 after discount

    • Until they realise they stuffed up their listing and refund you. They have the 4gb for $288 ($230 after discount) as you point out but 2gb for $371 ($296 after discount).

      • really? they do that kind of stuff

        • Yes, dick is known for it (here's a recent one from searching). Most sellers have it in their T&C's although some companies respect their customers and honour their sales. Other comments here indicate Kogan is similar with crappy refunds. But you never know your luck

  • Stinking Kogan rx100iv AU $1,512.99, rrp is only $1399 and no one sells it for rrp!

  • Price increases across the board? Not happy!

  • +3

    Unethical

  • +1

Hasn't Kogan already been fined for these types of shenanigans?? There may be a deal here somewhere, but for real? Almost everything is jacked up as per every other sale. And I wish he would stop using the DickSmith name. It's so misleading.

Everything jacked up, misleading information and dodgy seller…

  • +3

Geez this has really caused an uproar however Kogan owns Dick Smith and is free to charge different pricing, much like Dan Murphy’s compared to BWS (Woolworths), FirstChoice to Liquorland (Wesfarmers), Target to Kmart (Wesfarmers), Qantas to Jetstar (Qantas) etc. The one area of Australian Consumer Law they may fall foul of though is multiple pricing, if Dick Smith eBay store and discksmith.com.au have differential pricing this would represent multiple pricing. They couldn’t argue it’s cheaper with the coupon either as it’s an ebay coupon. With multiple pricing you are entitled to the lowest price. If you have time to complain here, you have time to lodge a quick consumer complaint!

“If you display or advertise in a catalogue the same good with more than one price, you must sell the good for the lowest displayed (or advertised) price or withdraw the goods from sale until the price is corrected. This does not apply when the advertisements state that prices vary in different regions, where a price is entirely hidden by another price, a unit price is shown, or a price is displayed in an overseas currency”.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing-surcharging/display…

  • Love the prices for Grey import stock before discount cant stand it that they jack the dam price I may as well shop on kogan.com and get qantas points for shopping there..

  • +2

RX100M3 - $1091.99 eBay - $874 after 20% off.. but their normal website is $1061 and sold out.. fun times. No thanks. Hope somebody finds a bargain. Good luck!

  • +1

Its not like Kogan has never been fined for this kind of deceptive behaviour during a sale by the ACCC or anything?
    Chromecast RRP $88 ?

    • +1

      Kogan doesn't care

As for those claiming Kogan is currently using Dicksmith as an 'Australian branding', they still don't care. As seen here, here and here

      Section 29(1)
A person must not, in trade or commerce, in connection with the supply or possible supply of goods or services or in connection with the promotion by any means of the supply or use of goods or services:
make a false or misleading representation concerning the place of origin of goods.

      • +1

Someone should take it to the papers or one of the channel news, even if it's been there already. Reckon Kogan needs a massive enough fine that they never think of it again.

        • +1

The problem is just how large the markups are able to be when Australian stock and standards is assumed. They profit far more than can ever really be fined under current law.

As an example my family paid $29+$9.90 delivery for a 5 port Kogan USB charger. The charger was absolute junk (so bad ACCC now forced them to recall it) and could've easily been purchased off AliExpress for $10 delivered. I'd assume Kogan gets it for around $4-5 in bulk. If we assume $5 for postage and handling, Kogan profited $28.90 off a single purchase, all because I assumed it would be better than a cheap nasty international charger.

  • http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/191940902921 Western digital 3tb HDD for $126 delivered after voucher. Good deal?

  • +2

Looking at the listing history on a whole bunch of items, they've have had their Buy It Now prices edited at ~3:00am today. Surprise, surprise.

  • Are the Kogan branded TVs really that awful?

  • Went through a few pages and compiled a list of items where you actually save a little.

Kogan Atlas 2-in-1 Original $238.40 ($279+Deliv Kogan website)
Kogan Atlas 2-in-1 Pro $315.20 ($375+Deliv Kogan Website)
    10m Cat6 RJ45 $9.60 ($12 Kogan Website)
Various 8GB Memory kits starting at $55.20

The Cat6 cable can be found for cheaper, though with lower quality plugs.

  • Why has this post been removed from the front page of OzBargain? Is the site trying to protect somebody?

    • The front page minimum is 25 votes since May 2016 (previously 20), it's an automated process. See announcement or wiki FAQ on how it works.

The deal currently has 66+ and 44- votes = 22

  • +1

bad form. they should have just remove the items they didnt want to include in the discount off of ebay

    • +3

Then you'd find there won't be any listings from them lol

  • So is Apple Hardware covered by Apple warranty, where I can walk into an Apple store for support?
Or is it a Kogan warranty?

  • Smoking gun, the exact same item is cheaper on their dicksite than on their ebay site.

    • Delivery charges, vs free shipping.

Kogan + Dick is an amalgram for Kick Gonad.

  • +3

    Bad form - $74 for Chromecast 2?

  • +3

Bunch of fraudsters! I wouldn't touch this with yours!

  • +3

Slimy cheats Kogan, I learned my lesson before never again

  • +6

We should raise this to consumer protection it is illegal what they just did

    • +2

I'm lazy, though I urge you to do so if you have the time and can compile a list of items. Note last time

  • +4

Kogan, are you treating your customer like fool?

  • +3

Kogan simply lost my trust, never bought anything of Kogan branded anymore since forever..

  • +3

    neg, for ripping people off!

  • Typical Kogan doing their "dick" move jacking prices. Nothing to see here.

Another 10% off not really 20% lame tactics now use Dick Smith name on it

  • -1

Don't know why this post has so many negs.
    Yes, it's Dick Smith.
    Yes, it's Kogan.
But at least they aren't exlcuding what most people are after… like Apple products.
I haven't yet verified if they have jacked up the price by 20% yet though.

    • +3

But they are still charging a premium for parallel imports that don't have the full warranty.

    • +1

Yea a lot of things I'm looking at have price hikes

      • +1

I had a few things in my watch list and none have increased, must just be luck, hey chef

        • yeah that's it, kind of expecting this anyways so no dramas

    • +1

well you paying like 5% less than Australian RRP for products that has KOGAN warranty rather than manufacturers' warranty.

Might as well buy from ebay and pick the cheapest?

  • +2

how many negs required for a complete post revoke? does that ever occur?

  • I know we all hate Kogan, but it seems pretty harsh to neg this deal so hard when individual deals from the Kogan 20% off are getting so many upvotes, with no negs.

  • +1

    Jacked up prices, no bargain.

  • +2

Many users will have 1 star rating I'm sure now ;)

  • +7

I have been looking for an Apple Watch for a while and I got really excited to see this 20% discount until I went ahead to check the price of the watch. As at 11:50 AM AEST, they are as below?

    38mm Sports

    Apple Retail Price: http://apple.co/2bmpyCJ $429

    Dicky's Price: http://bit.ly/2aQ5JE7 $681.99 AND http://bit.ly/2b2s0j4 $511.99

    42mm Sports

    Apple Retail Price: http://apple.co/2blrcaF $499

    Dicky's Price: http://bit.ly/2bbL94B $811.99

I emailed their eBay store questioning why their prices are higher than the retail prices and this is what they said:

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We believe we have the best deals in the market and monitor all major retailers on a daily basis to ensure our deals are ahead of the competition.

On rare occasions you may find a product at a lower price than Dick Smith but you should ensure that you are checking all aspects of the offer including:

    • Dick Smith provide comprehensive Australia wide warranty.
    • Dick Smith offer Australian based customer service and support.
    • Dick Smith offer very fast dispatch and delivery
    • Dick Smith offer competitive Australia wide delivery rates

If you believe that you have found a deal that satisfies your needs on all of the above points and the price is cheaper than Dick Smith, then you have found an amazing deal. Chances are it's a limited time only short promotion from the manufacturer so we suggest you snap it up!

    What the duck?

  • +1

Ebay are just as bad are kogan.. Noticed they removed a negative from the above eBay account.. someone had left them a negative and percentage was at 97% but now its gone and feedback showing 100% with no negative.

Feedback mention something about them not cancelling an order and placing again to get 20% off.

    • Yeah but DS's reply was that they were sorting it, basically.

Might not have been eBay, could've been a deal from DS - ie remove the vote and we'll sort it
