not in title. not a dupe.

        • Fair call but I see posts everyday with multiple deals listed in the description and not in the title. Then there are posts that are merged because it's part of the same sale from the same seller. I'm confused about the consistency and rules but the community has spoken so like any good sheep I will go along with it.

      • Well, mods can decide whether its a dupe then. Doesn't bother me.

    • +1

Don't think it counts as a dupe if it isn't in the title of another deal. I just had it in my description for the R9 380 post.

Hi donnot, you said this SanDisk is MLC in the pc byte thread. Could you please provide a source on where it says that as I'm having trouble googling that info? Thanks.

    • Jv?

  • +1

    Nice thanks.

  • +3

god dam it i paid $86 for one there yesterday

    • +1

You missed the PC byte deal?

      • yeah i didn't need one till yesterday a friend wanted me to install one in their pc and msy is close by.

        • +2

So your friend paid the full price then? That's a relief

    • Ugghhh… Me too

  • How do I buy through their site but pickup instead?

    • +1

go to msy.com.au then click on "order online & pick up from branch". you will need to sign in and search for product and checkout. you can choose to pay on pick up as well.

  • anychance you can stick this in a macbook air 2013?

    • No chance

    • +3

Nope, Air 2011 onwards and most later models of Macbooks use a blade style SSD. Looks like RAM

    • 128gb micro SD and a the low profile SD CARD reader adapter that fits snug for $2 on eBay if you've got the 13" MacBook Air or pro great way to get around it

      • Can you link me to this 'low profile SD card reader'? I've been considering doing this for a while but could never find one of them. TIA

      • Sure this would have the necessary endurance ?

      • great way to get around it

Well it's a way. A way that is slow and only capable of one read/write operation at a time.

    • +1

Most definitely, if you try hard enough. But I doubt that it would work

  • Not sure if it has been posted here before, but if you buy the SSD from mwave.com.au and bundle it with Amex offer, wont it be cheaper?

    • 100 min spend. Also not everyone has amex.

  • Got one. Thanks! :)

  • +2

Still got two in the drawer from past deals. Nice deal though, :)

    • hahaha so ur bit of a collector for SSDs?! ;P

  • I find MSY super dodgy but this is an awesome price.

    • +2

      I find MSY super dodgy

      Why?

      I've never had a problem with them…

      • 2x external HDD died within a week. Bluetooth speakers that dont connect. When I went back to claim warranty on the speakers I was told it will have to be sent back to the manufacturer overseas as MSY dont have local warranty process for that product or some shit like that. And I dont think they have improved much because a friend recently got a graphics card that seemed to die within days. Maybe ive just been unlucky but i don't trust them anymore. Theres plenty of similar grievances like these on whirlpool forums.

        • It depends on the branch and which staff you talk to, I think they are improving though. Last time they just gave me a replacement on the spot for a six months old GPU @ Mitcham store.

        • MSY dont have local warranty process

That's illegal, why don't you report them to the ACCC ?

        • @jv:
In hindsight I probably should've done that.

        • I've had no problem with them. Had a DVD writer fail within a month and they swapped it on the spot for a different one. Sounds like you got a lazy employee who didn't feel like filling out an RMA.

  • How good is this compared to the Samsung 750 EVO ?

Would one be preferred over the other for an old macbook ?

    • +1

Using benchmarks, performance will obviously be different (in the 750's favour), but probably won't notice the difference in an old Macbook. From a reliability standpoint, probably much the same so I'd go for this one to save a bit. EDIT: How old are we talking? What model?

      • How old are we talking? What model?

it's an old 2010 model… needs an SSD to breathe a bit more life out of it…

        • +3

Just stick with the Sandisk in this post then. Won't make any difference in everyday usage or responsiveness. Unless your workload relies on dealing with non-sequential files, where the Samsung will pull ahead.

        • @donnot:

          thanks…

        • I've got the 480GB version(slightly faster). There is noticeable difference between Samsung 850 Pro and the Sandisk. There is also noticeable price difference. For me difference is most noticeable when I am resuming multiple VMs. We are talking few seconds here, nothing significant, but I do notice.

        • @zealmax:

          Samsung 850 Pro

          that's twice the price though…

the 750 EVO is a better comparison to this drive.

        • @jv: Yeah, value wise, it is pretty good.

        • @zealmax:

If you want a bit more performance for your dollar, spend an extra $20 and get the Sandisk Ultra II 240gb SSD.

Great speeds, puts up a good fight with the premium samsungs for only $99. I've been suing one in my pc for a year or two now.

Hopefully the judge will rule in your favor.

    Cheaper than getting USB flash.

  • I live probably 300 km from the nearest MSY but gezz $14.74 for postage , that's ridiculous what are you posting it in ? If they posted it as a large letter in a padded envelope it would probably cost $2-3 if they posted it as a parcel or satchel $8.25.

Glad I got one from Pcbyte deal worked out much better for me with free postage.

    • You can blame it on Aust Post. Posting in Australia is expensive and slow.

      • +1

No you can't there are other postage options then whatever parcel post they are using for this. Both methods the satchel/parcel and padded letter I mentioned are above are Aus post prices and both more than sufficient for posting an ssd. For the
Price MSY are charging I would expect a decent size box, plenty of packing, SOD and tracking.

The comments about being slow are also false almost all eBay vendors including pcbyte use Aus post. I have already gotten my ssd I ordered the other day. On the other I have had a lot more problems with couriers then I have ever had with AuS post.

  • Would this be faster then a Samsung 840 120GB?

  • Mwave amex deal?

    750evo 250gb for under $72 shipped.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/264141

    • not everyone has amex?

      • U may have your reasons for not getting an amex.
U miss out on a better deal.

But for those with an amex… why not get a better product for less?
