  • [Removed as per OP's request]: "Were not happy until your not happy" Great deal though.

    • Are they really that bad? Never used.

  • +2

I opened an account to post this up, but you can't post in the first 24 hours :(
Great deal. I doubt the 8gb 3GS is going to be this cheap.

    • +3

The 24 ban was used to reduce the amount of spamming that we get, here. It doesn't stop all spam, but it did cut it down a massive amount.

    • +1

      There's no "8 GB 3GS".

      3G has 8 and 16 GB.

      3GS has 16 and 32 GB.

The first sign of a scam from eBay.

      • +4

There will be an 8GB 3GS when the new iPhone 4 comes out, cause it only comes in 16GB and 32GB, so they are decreasing the 3GS to 8GB.

        http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/06/new-8gb-iphone-3gs-will-co…

        • Ah okay. Glad to be proven wrong.

I never would expect that though.

          • @leonheart1: they still make the 8gb 3G. It is over two years old and they need to phase it out, so they are bringing out the 8gb 3GS, probably because there is a demand for that size.

  • is this anywhere on the internet? I cant find a catalogue or anything…

  • I'd like to pick up a 3GS on the cheap for the wife. She's likes my one and wouldn't be bothered about the 4G. Anywhere selling them outright at a decent price?

    • +12

???? Sorry you've confused me here - if she "wouldn't be bothered" sounds like a golden invitation to get the 4G and let her have your cast off 3GS??!! Or have I missed something here??

      • +3

+1 Sounds like it could be the best excuse.. :P

      • lol

I'm happy with my 3GS as well, it's jailbroken and set up perfectly for me.

        • you can do the same with the 4g, I can't believe I'm trying to get someone to upgrade their phone when they have an excuse

          • @chansthename: you can jailbreak a 4g?

are you sure as last i saw the dev software had been hacked but thats different than the retail one

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: I think you cant jailbreak it yet. no one is gonna release a jailbreak before the product has come out. But i would say within a week you could. redsn0w and possibly spirit will bring it out.

              • @venu: The hardware isn't out yet but the software is. iOS4 is available now for developers. Meaning that a jailbreak before the release is more than possible.

                • @Strange: it has probably been jailbroken. the point is. you would be stupid to release the jailbreak as it would give apple time to patch the software before they release the new iphone.

                  • @venu: Apple patches the jailbreaks with every software update. So what's your point?

I'm on iOS4 right now and I'm jailbroken. If the next update has sufficient differences from the current release then I'll simply update with the new (jailbroken) ipsw.

  • the deal, is it prepaid? or its equivalent to $35 cap per month?

    • It's definitely post-paid cause thats what it says. On a 35 cap with 160 worth of calls, 300mb per month. Normally Virginmobile do 24 month contracts with their plans. Does anyone know the PPP (Post Paid Price) which is how much of that $35 would be going on handset repayments per month if you wanted to pay the contract out early? Keep in mind Virgin have a $250 early exit fee (for the first 6 months).

  • is it 12 months plan or 24?

    • -1

Only optus do 12 month plans.

The new iPhone 4 will be out in Australia in a few weeks.

      • Vodafone offer 12 month plans aswell.

      • Three also do 12-month plans

  • +2

looks awfully like last years 3g runout offer

  • can't find it on virgin mobile website neither :( really good deal though

  • It's a 24 month plan. Discussion at Whirlpool here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1469436

  • This is ok… But I much prefer the plan I found, bit more expensive but then it comes with more,

Optus $59 Social; (24 month contract)
    $450 Calls to anyone
Unlimited SMS/MMS to anyone in Australia
1Gb Download (and Facebook, Youtube, Myspace, Twitter don't count towards it)

    And I got the 32Gb 3GS for $12/month, I beleive the 16Gb 3GS would be $7/month
just wish optus offered free tethering, but then if your on the plan you can get the iPhone unlocked free of charge after 10 days of having the contract.

I wonder what iPhone 4G plans will look like…

  • +1

Thats the plan I hope to get the iPhone 4 on. It also has $100 off if you buy it online. But being almost twice as expensive, it can't really be compared to the $35 Virgin plan.

  • +1

damn, this even caught my eye but 24 mnth contract destroys it. im with liveconnected now, so cheap but no phone

  • +1

Sick, but I'll be waiting for the 4.

  • Don't bother, wait for the 4

    • +11

And pay twice as much per month. This is a great entry level plan. Look at the other crap phones being offered around the $30pm mark. There's nothing close to an iPhone.

  • Great deal! Friend's been looking for one so maybe I can recommend this, and she needs a new phone plan too. This should be alright for her.

    Thanks for the post man!

  • +1

I suggest that anyone considering this research in to the iPhone 4 first. There is nothing worse then regretting an expensive purchase.

  • +5

Even if you don't want to pay premium prices for the iPhone 4, you'd be daft not to wait till it hits the stores in Australia before signing up for a contract for the iPhone 3GS. 3GS is top of the range atm, when the 4 comes out, this will be bundled at lower price point contracts. These "run out deals" are just a con to make people come to a hasty decision.

    • +4

When the iPhone 4 gets here, the 8GB 3GS (that is replacing the 8GB 3G) probably won't be available on a contract this cheap. I think you'd be better off grabbing a 'run out deal' rather than waiting for the iPhone 4 release. Just my opinion though :)

    • This deal will be over by then, and all run out deals on this 'old stock' phone will all be long gone.

If you can find this phone in stock at at this price, and the plan suits your demands, RUN, don't walk!

  • +2

Great deal, + from me. Just a shame they don't offer a similar deal on an Android phone….

  • Not sure if people are gonna want this with the iphone 4 just around the corner.

    • +1

depends what the differences between 3 n 4, but i personally dont like buy new technologies stuffs since they charge premium.
1-2 generation older will have the best price to have

  • +1

Cheaper than I bought mine outright for.

    • how can that be ? this 35$ * 24 months will be alot

      • $840. $50 more than the outright price from apple. (but you get call credits)

        • +1

and really you can't discount call credits on top of that.

      • It's $840.
I can't remember exactly but I think I payed $860 for mine outright from Apple.

        • -1

You can't compare this price 1 yr ago?

      • +2

being a finance student… please don't forget opportunity cost of outright vs monthly payments :)

  • In the past with Virgin 24 month plans, you are able to break free out of the contract after 6 months, and just pay off the remaining payments due on the Phone itself (ie, you're not liable to pay the reamining 18 months of monthly repayments or anything). I'm not sure if they will still have this condition this particular deal though.

    • Yep that is still the case, after 6 months you can cancel the contract and just payout phone repayments.

      • Really? What happens if you pay $0 per month for phone?

Well Im on 29$ per month, for 24month as i got a "free" Nokia E71.

On my Bill I think there are phone payments but virgin automatically cancels it out…

        • Anyone willing to call up virign and confirm? Cause that would then mean you get an iPhone for $210.

          • +3

@Trance N Dance: doesn't matter if you pay $0 for the phone. Virgin 'subsidise' the cost of the phone over your contract.

There is a Per month price for every phone.. ranges between 15-40 bucks a month. So if you quit after 6 months you will need to pay $210 + 18*Per month price. So if for example the Per month price of the iphone is $20, it will be $210 + $360 = $570.

So really, someone needs to find out what the Per month cost of the phone is. THen you will know how much you would need to pay at the end of 6 months to end your contract.

  • Just bought mine from Allphone, yes it is really, quite happy with this, as my wife is with virgin as well.

  • Great price! For those saying to wait for phone4, do you already have an iphone? Or need more than the net or call quota of the base plan? Just trying to understand why this may not be such a great deal

    • +4

It's an amazing deal if seeing people walk around with newer iPhones than yours doesn't bother you.

  • Friend got theirs today from Miranda VirginMobile. Great Deal!!

  • -4

So this is just like Cap 29 + $6/month for the phone. As Virgin Cap 29 give you $160 credit….smart way to promote as $35 and ZERO on the phone so people thinking the phone is free but it wasn't.

    • No, its the roll-over cap Plus 35. $0 handset repayments. (Roll-over cap 29 only has 20mb data.. therefore the plus is the 300mb data)

      http://www.virginmobile.com.au/mobile-plans-pricing/monthly-…

      • -2

        I mean RO Cap 29 + 20MB.
Ahh ic RO Cap Plus 35 give you extra 280MB.

        • Yeah and the data is def worthwhile as the data over this is 20c per mb. Which can get expensive on youtube etc. if you did use the extra 280mb (on the 29 plan) you would be charged an extra 56 bucks that month in excess data usage. therefore the extra 6 bucks on the rollover plus plan i would say is worth it.

  • I'd prefer to pay $10 - $20 more a month and get Telstra or Optus, I wonder when they'll come to the party?

    • +7

Virgin is on the optus network.

      • +2

More than just that they are owned by the same company.

      • yeah but my wife is on Optus

        • +1

Might be cheaper for her to come to Virgin … but I haven't checked it out for you

          • +1

@SomeGuyOnOzB: yeah but I'm on Optus too and happy to stay with my deal

  • How much does it cost to break the contract..say, immediately after you're given the phone..

    • Early contract cancellation fee before 2 months is $250. PPP (Post paid price) of the phone is about $800.
So if you cancel in the first month it would cost you $1050 roughly

      • Best thing to do is to cancel after 6 months. Then you only have to pay $600. (800ppp/24months)*18months

  • +6

Gees, 99c/min + 40c call connection and billed per minute.

    • +1

was about to get this until i saw that as well…has to be the worst rate on the market?

    • +1

Yes, important to read the details otherwise they might as well have a $1500 cap (at $10/min rate) for the same price ;-)

  • Great value for the 3GS 16gb (bigger than the new base model 3GS 8GB which will probably cost more for some reason).

But waiting for the 4 here :)

  • Good deal!

  • I would love to get an iPhone. How does this compare to getting one through the Telstra Family and Friend Offer??? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27055 Thoughts anyone?

    • It will cost you $30 ($20 for iphone 3gs 16GB + $10 minimum call)

      http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=1dEGen2vYlpX4L62BU3_klRl1…

    • Virgin call connection fees - 99c/min + 40c connection fee and billed per minute
      Telstra - 30c/30sec + 27c connection fee

If you need data though, it's probably worth getting a data pack with Telstra.

  • just picked one up…first store tried was already sold out…will go quick…awesome deal thx poster

  • Found this on another site relating to some of the Virgin plans - might be worth a try.

    Special Offer
Get $50 credit by entering the promo code punk during checkout on the Virgin Mobile website.
    Offer Ends: 30 Jun 2010

    • Too bad this deal isn't showing up on Virgin's site.

      • they call it a under-the-table deal

  • hmm very tempting.. i do hope after they release the new 4, this 3gs prices will be at least like this or lower..

  • I have absolutely no need for an iphone… but I'm tempted.

    • been tempted by iphone since a year ago but i just cant justify myself paying $69 for a phone (including usage) per month! but now, 35$ is different

  • +1

I would be warned that Virgin and Optus are well known for having particularly bad network connections with the iphone 3GS. There's a massive thread on whirlpool about it. Not matter how cheap the plan is, if the network is already saturated I would steer clear.

    • I'm with optus on an iPoon 3G, and i seem to have fairly decent coverage in VIC and good data speeds in the metro areas on 3G. Totally different story when I fly to Sydney though. It really comes down to locality… your best option is to find a mate who uses Optus/Virgin on an iPhone and check their connectivity in your local area.

      • Haha yeah a mate of mine has one on Virgin and at school (which is right next to a mobile tower) he gets some pretty average connections. But then again being right at the bottom (within 300m) of a tower could be a bad thing as you might be out of sight? But the irony, next to a cell tower but left with a poor signal.

  • optus is good for me most of the time to be honest

  • -1

Bear in mind that you cannot upgrade from your existing Virgin plan to this one. You must buy out the rest of your contract if you're an existing customer and your mobile number cannot be ported as well.

    • Really? Why not? This is news to me.

    • +2

That is not quite true, You can port your number and you can also upgrade to it, but you are right on having to pay out the rest of your contract.

      • I was at the Virgin store yesterday and I was told by staff that I was unable to upgrade to this plan. I can either upgrade from my free to V 20/50 plan to a 45 roll over cap plus $5 for the handset or I have to pay for the remainder of my contract (6 months left) and go on this 35 roll over cap.

  • I got one yesterday from TeleChoice, really good deal, thanks a lot!!

  • Hurry up Nexus One :(

  • actually quite tempte on HTC desire aswell.
any1 know can we jailbreak android ? then all the paid apps will be free (just like jailbreaking iphone)

    • +1

I thought there is no such thing as jailbreaking in Android?

    • +1

Jailbreaking is fairly legal as it removes restriction to install non-itunes apps from other sources. Winterboard for example. Installing cracked apps(to avoid paying) is however illegal.

I dont think android needs jailbreaking coz google doesnt restrict the phones as much as apple does with theirs. not sure though.
