    Oh they're still opened…

  • +3

    Is there anything left?

    • +2

I was going to ask the same question

      • SFA at Heatherbrae for any Novocastrians interested…I haven't checked Ruddafud though…

      Mostly shelving and staff.

      • +4

        10% off staff too?

        • +6

Staff at penrith aren't anything to look at

        • +3

          @Hotkolbas:

Extra 10% off paper bags as well.

        • +2

          On top of the 40-70%.

It would vary from store to store but keep in mind that we are approaching the estimated closing dates so you'll see stores starting to look empty. It really depends on what you're after.

        Genuine Bargains

      • Do you guys sell shelf, like DSE?

I only buy Masters product when it's on a GENUINE discount…

    • Very Little left in Adullaide Masters

PS I shopped at Masters today and didn't receive the extra 10% off

      • Check the receipt again re the 10%. Originally I thought the same thing.

    • At my store there is an abundance of flatpack cupboards of odd sizes with an equally abundant array of non-matching doors that don't correspond to one another (unless you are happy for one to be grey and one black)! That wasted an hour of my life.

There are also sample quantities of tiles and vinyl, some very random low value things like rope chain, screws, irrigation fittings, paint scrapers, and an assortment of obscure trade electrical fittings such as a 20 amp 3 phase socket (that your electrician would get cheaper from Haymans on account), etc.

Occasionally you will see something useful like a power tool or a ceiling fan and think you've got something, but a quick google check reveals it was actually too expensive originally and not discounted enough to beat the best online price or Bunnings.

It actually gives a keen insight into why the business failed as they seem to have quite a lot of dollars worth of stock that isn't saleable even at 70% off….!

      To sum it up:
      * Anything useful that received a good discount has been bought.
      * Some (very few) useful things are left that are now a reasonable price, but not a bargain. The extra 10% may start to move these.
      * Most of what is left is very niche items that aren't going to be useful unless you just happen to need a random thing like a metric reducing coupling 25 x 20mm for your irrigation system.

And no… they are not selling useful things like many display models such as pre-assembled cupboards, shelving, other shop fittings or the likes either for most part.

    • Just hit the four if the South East Melbourne stores - not much left!

  • +5

There's a fair bit of stock left. But don't go there expecting to buy a specific thing.

Now it's just go there and pick over what's left.

    • yeah - Canberra airport store is still chocka full - pity the pricing sucks even after discount

      • +2

yeah - Canberra airport store is still chocka full - pity the pricing sucks even after discount

Utter rubbish, the prices were comparable to Bunnings before and your absurd claim is that 40 to 70% makes no difference. Whilst you make false claims people are out there saving heaps of money.

        • +3

OK Ill give you an example. I was after a trenching shovel, at 40% off their cheap version was $20 and went up to about $45.

Bunnings has the EXACT same price spread but with no sale.

Others are far cheaper, I bought shade cloth by the meter (Coolaroo, same brand at both) and it was 40%+10% off IIRC, and much cheaper at masters then bunnings as a result.

Another example was I bought perma timber for a new deck, the price there made buying it over Merbau very little difference to my project cost, buying the same type of fake timber stuff elsewhere would have added a lot to the price.

Their sales are not always genuine is what Im trying to say, they raised the price of some items, people have found cheaper stickers on stock in masters as the regular price, then the sale sticker with a higher base price with the discount brining it to the old standard price but now "on sale"

        • +1

          @Hellman109:

OK Ill give you an example. I was after a trenching shovel, at 40% off their cheap version was $20 and went up to about $45.

The one that was a clearance item for $20 reduced from $45 and it went back to regular price when the stock was sold to GA Auctions.

they raised the price of some items, people have found cheaper stickers on stock in masters as the regular price, then the sale sticker with a higher base price with the discount brining it to the old standard price but now "on sale"

Of course the one example that keeps coming up and it was the one where someone changed price tags so it looked like the prices went up but it was done deliberately.

Proving that Masters increased the prices would be easy but no-one can do it, the ACCC would fine them millions.

        • I don't think its "utter rubbish".
I have saved money at the Masters sale as there were some genuine bargains.

However I agree in part with HeXa, for example I was going to buy a ceiling fan that was 40% off last weekend. Did a google search, and found the same one with optional extras such as a remote control and a light for the same price, delivered to my door from an Australian online store with an eBay presence in under 2 minutes of searching. I'm not in a hurry so next Cashrewards / Paypal / eBay sale it'd be cheaper from there.

Having said that, the discounts are increasing.

  • Probably making good profits to warrant a revive from these crappy discounts.

  • who bought the Ego Line Trimmer and can give a review?

    • who bought the Ego Line Trimmer and can give a review?

Which one? How many reviews do you want? There are dozens of YouTube reviews on each model, many more reviews elsewhere including choice where the LT1500 came out in top of the cordless.

    • Yes - The 2.4 mm straight shaft version is excellent.
Buy a spare bumper head and reel while you are there.

    • +1

And prices increased by an extra 15%

What a surprise, a stupid misleading comment.

      • +1

        Don't take comments personally.

But there's not many listed deals.
It varies from store to store
A fair bit of the deals would fall under the insufficient quantities

        Norrhlands (vic)
Has a fair bit of stock on Hills garden hoses (15m ~$8, heavy duty 30m ~$23).
Fair few pots, indoor lights, quite a few power tools, fasteners, ceiling fans (& a pile of goldair 45cm high velocity floor fans for under $50)
        Not much timber, paint.
        A few dead plants

It looks like they're combining stock at stores. It might be handy if people list the sort of stock available in their local store?

        • A fair bit of the deals would fall under the insufficient quantities

          No it wouldn't.

It looks like they're combining stock at stores. It might be handy if people list the sort of stock available in their local store?

Do it then, most people are happy to take but not give back.

        • @Maverick-au:

          very excitable aren't we.

          Do it then

          I did above.

  • Some good toolboxes, gearwrench roller $1450 +topbox $750 - 45% is about $1200 if your in the market for these

  • +4

Just remember it will be 10% off the already discounted price. So if a $100 item is currently 50% off ($50) an extra 10% off the total purchase is on the $50 ($5) not 10% of $100. Just so there are no nasty surprises at the checkout.

(thanks thebargainhunter for the explanation in the last deal).

    • A 3% increase (already 70% off) isn't really that much more. A 73% increase is pretty big although I have found the items with the biggest increases were the most overpriced to start with.

    • -1

That means it really isnt an "extra 10% off". Very tricky…

      • +4

That means it really isnt an "extra 10% off". Very tricky

It is 10% off the discounted price, it's not Masters fault that so many Australians can't do basic maths. It's hardly tricky.

        • Given how the post is worded I would say most people would take it to mean an extra 10% off the ticketed price. Not the discounted price.

        • +2

it's trickery, which is Master's fault that so many Australian's don't appreciate it.

        • @supabrudda:

Look at the wording in Masters email and Facebook post. It is very clear that it is 10% of the discounted register price but keep telling lies about Masters as it's so you seem to do.

        • Within the stores its very clear "10% off your total at the registers" on the 10% off signs. Masters didnt post the title here.

What part of Google is hard to understand? Google the product and look at the cached page. The eBay store does exist. Sheesh no wonder people can't find a bargain in Masters, if it's not flashing on a neon sign with the before, after and savings prices they can't see it.

        • +7

@Maverick-au: Obviously got a good deal on angry pills.

        • @supabrudda: at masters..? Might have been something else :)

  • Went to one in Rowville area vic, not a lot left and it was not organised, good luck finding anything. Lots of scavengers around as well. At this point it is not worth it.

  • +1

At my local Masters(Richlands QLD), there is still some stock left, but I would say they have sold more than 60% of their stock as half the store is now closed off because they are empty. Most of the stuff tradies use went pretty quickly, outdoor paint, timber, sealants, screws and nails in popular sizes. Tools are mostly gone as well. Blinds are mostly gone except for the expensive or ugly blinds. Like others have said, don't go in there looking for a specific thing, I bought some timber from there this week, but had to go to Bunnings for nails. Also, the timber that I bought was cheaper than anywhere else but is not the right size, so I will have to cut it down lengthwise.

Because they move the stock around to close off empty areas, a lot of stuff have no price labels or old sale prices. You might be pleasantly surprised at the checkout.

    • +1

yeah was there yesterday not much left

      • Can you remember whether there was any portable air conditioners still around? I was there a few weeks ago and they still had like 30+ units @ around $400. Seems like a good time to pick one up now provided there is still any left!

There is an email sent out from Master at 8:04 a.m. today 11 Nov 2016. Does it help?

        • HEY - Who wrote that?

  • As of last night there was a heap of their home brand (can't remember the name…Triton maybe?) drills, impact drivers and recip saws. Skins only and no batteries for sale, otherwise I would have jumped at it

    • I bought before the sale a Triton kit of a light and drill for $38.50 with the battery and charger. I really bought it for the light as that was cheaper than the Hitachi equivalent on its own however I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the drill

They were an Australian company now quite big in the UK i believe

  • are there any microwaves and kitchen appliances left at masters northlands? I'll have to go have a look.

    • I didn't notice any on Wed. Not that I was actually looking, but nothing obvious.

What were you after? I'll probably be going to Bunnings up the road tomorrow, so I can have a squiz.

      • an inverter microwave - have a gander if you were going to but i will likely be up there on saturday anyway (going to go to the good guys to spend my $20 printer voucher)

  • Mircrowaves flew off the shelves. It's a shame as they were one of the only places that stocked the Black Stainless Sharp Microwaves https://www.whitfordshomeappliances.com.au/sharp-r395ybk-bla… plus the fascia kits to build them in

  • +2

I've been to the place every weekend for the past month and the bench i want is still over priced. Now I know why you're going under Masters.

  • +2

Last weekend at Northmead (Sydney) there were heaps of glass splashbacks for kitchens. They were about $100 each for about 1.8m or 2m long, and they looked really nice.

These seemed very good value to me, as they had ground edges, and were back coloured (quite a range available). Obviously you'd need to pay to have then cut to length, unless you could somehow incorporate the standard sizes into a kitchen layout.

In the entire place and over an hour of walking, that was the best thing I could find. The Plumbing fittings were 70% off I think, so they were good value if you had a project on… lots of 90mm stormwater corners, joiners etc. Original prices were crazy high, but the 70% brought them down to what seemed to be lower than Bunning standard price.

Note: this is general info to give a heads up on potential bargains. Posted it from memory, so may be errors and other stores may not have the same gear.

    • -3

Why do you post misleading information? Bunnings and Masters had mostly identical pricing for 40, 50, 90 and 100mm fittings. With the 70% of they are around a quarter of the price that Bunnings sell them for.

When Masters had a 25% off PVC sale Bunnings turned around and did the same because they sold at the same price and they didn't want to match plus give another 10%.

      • Master's liquidators went in before any of this started and re-priced most things at RRP

THIS is why original prices were crazy high.

        • -7

Master's liquidators went in before any of this started and re-priced most things at RRP

No they didn't, this is an outright lie that some people keep spreading but there is no proof anywhere to back up the lies.

THIS is why original prices were crazy high.

The original prices were not crazy high. The only high thing here are your lies.

        • +2

@Maverick-au: hardly, I heard about it and staff told me.

        • -5

          @snook:

hardly, I heard about it and staff told me.

Sure they did, keep telling lies. Provide some proof of you're so sure of yourself as it shouldn't be hard to find.

When the liquidators took over all the current specials and they had multiple percentage off sales at the time across multiple departments were reverted back to the regular pre sale price. Pretty simple except for those that like to make up conspiracy theories.

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

Surprised you seem so sure about this.

My local store had heaps of stuff on clearance before the stock was sold off. Lots of these items went from ~50% off to 10% off once they moved to the store wide discount.

Dont get me wrong i dont care how they ran their sale. Prices back to original rrp then start an increasing % discount over time seems like an easy way to do it.

        • +1

@Maverick-au: the staff told me and showed me on their hand held scanner's the most expensive price a product ever sold at, is the rrp they are Discounting from
I think it was the woolies buyers for the stores fault
Buying stock at too high a price
With no profit when discounted to a reasonable price
Eg, can of Wattal metal paint rrp 120
          Cost they said was 80.
now 60 and still sat on a shelf
Like most of their silicone sealant that has gone off in the tube this has probably been sitting there since the stores opened

        • -3

          @Duff5000:

Surprised you seem so sure about this.

You just said exactly what I said so what are you talking about?

My local store had heaps of stuff on clearance before the stock was sold off. Lots of these items went from ~50% off to 10% off once they moved to the store wide discount.

So what, this is exactly what I said. Half the store had discounts applied to it at the time of the sale, there were two catalogues in operation, one for literally a few days and the other for a week and a half. When the stock was sold to a third party it was reverted back to it's REGULAR non discounted price.

Dont get me wrong i dont care how they ran their sale. Prices back to original rrp then start an increasing % discount over time seems like an easy way to do it.

Not original RRP, they went back to their REGULAR price that they were also marked at on the shelf.

        • -4

          @Beach Bum:

@Maverick-au: the staff told me and showed me on their hand held scanner's the most expensive price a product ever sold at, is the rrp they are Discounting from

The regular non discounted price that was always marked on the shelf is the price they based the discount on when the stock was sold. STOP calling it a RRP as it's got nothing to do with a fictional RRP.

Eg, can of Wattal metal paint rrp 120
          Cost they said was 80.

Staff don't know the cost price.

Like most of their silicone sealant that has gone off in the tube this has probably been sitting there since the stores opened

None of the sealants that I've purchased have been a problem.

        • @Maverick-au: well this is direct from staff showing me all this
Unless your a store manager you should pull your head in

        • -3

          @Beach Bum:

well this is direct from staff showing me all this

Wow the lengths that people will go to tell lies about Masters are totally unbelievable just like your bogus example of the Wattyl Killrust paint.

Unless your a store manager you should pull your head in

The staff on the floor don't know the cost price so you've been caught out in yet another lie.

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

          Calm down.

Stuff had been sitting on clearance for a year or more. The price went back to RRP with and then had 10% discount.

No idea why you are getting so worked up about it. Stop taking it so personally.

Edit: i have worked for woolworths group amongst other retailers and could easily look up cost price at all of them…

    • +3
