Top deal, keep up the good work :)

  • +1

    Is this TV worth it?

    • +3

Got one from the last deal, it does the job, no huge complaints. Depends what you compare it to I suppose, I upgraded from a 21" lcd monitor. Now I just need this TV survive in the long run because I don't have the extended warranty.

      • Well… We've still got a rear projection TV that's still kicking from 2001 lol so I'm guessing the picture difference will be noticeable

    • Worth it. It is a 42 inch, probably not the main tv at home, not sure about the sound, because i use a speaker. Definitely worth it.

  • mine from the last deal is still in the sealed box waiting while we move in next month :)

    • Yep. ozbargain has sold me heaps of no name china tvs - and here's another one.

      • +3

And thx China so you have all these bargains

    • +1

I'd advise having a quick look at it if you haven't as I bought one last sale and screen was cracked. Replaced it but they reckon I had only 7 days to do so.

      • Thanks for this piece of advice, I'll have a look at it tonight.

  • I brought one from last sale. The picture is very average, and the sound is bad. But for $230 what can you expect. Ok for a spare room, but wouldn't want it as my main TV.

    • Totally agree, not the best or even the second best. At this price, certainly not the worst, so worth it.

      • It's the third best? Do you have a tv in the loo? That's where I'd put a shitty tv

        • Really?mine is in the kitchen

        • Your loo deserves Samsung. This one is for poor people like rest of us. :)

    • What audio output does it have? Headphones socket, RCA audio out, optical (toslink)?

      • Just had a look in store, it appears to have RCA out.

I'm slightly wary since my previous DSE TV only output audio when playing from the internal TV tuner, but I've ordered this one and will give it a shot tonight.

        • Just confirming it has both a headphone socket and RCA audio out, no optical or coax.

        • Just wanted to add in case anyone comes across this in the future, was just checking and it appears to have coaxial digital output too. My mistake…

  • Cam just got one last week with my click and collect code. Should have waited. Good Deal

    • +1

Don't tell Cam then & just get another one for yourself.

      • Buck just got one too.

  • I ordered one from the last deal, my order was delayed as TGG told me it was out of stock, so it was delayed about a week. Once the TV arrived, I noticed it was resealed. I wasn't too fussed about this, but once I plugged it in, it was obviously a faulty return.

The panel has terribly uneven back light. (could not see the bottom left corner of the screen) Image quality is okay for this price, as is the sound. Also this was purchased primarily as a bedroom TV to play videos of a USB. sadly the supported formats are pretty much limited to only AVIs. And only AVIs encoded with a certain codec, because not all AVIs played either. No mp4s would play at all.

So I called TGG up the next day to have it returned. Return process was a breeze.

    • +1

It looks almost exactly the same as my DSE TV.

I expect the same thing… horrible sound but thats what the 3.5mm is for.

Hook up a set of 2.1 speakers you got on special.

Picture of SD 720 and 1,080p files is as expected. Very very good.

      Console picture is fine.

It is what it is for $230.

  • I have an Aldi TV from 6 years ago.Would this be an upgrade ?I don't game or anything just want good picture and i have good speakers to make up for bad sound .Useful feedback please TIA

    • Broadcast tv quality is generally terrible, especially the SD channels. Fine for a spare/kids TV but I'd never call this an upgrade…
Netflix etc looks pretty good with some weird backlighting issues etc.

  • +2

Someone talk me out of this please, I'm about to cave in

    • +6

Every year I say the Boxing Day sales are crap compared to deals through the rest of the year, this is a perfect example.

      • +1

Bah, pulled the trigger! Guess it was too good to pass up.

Now to find a place to put it lol

    • +1

Everytime this TV has been posted there's been a price drop, if you wait you could get another price drop!

  • Awesome!

  • I bought the Soniq 43" for $299 on Saturday. This seems to be an even better deal.

    • +1

Yep, GVA is way better picture quality than Soniq

      • +1

My experience with both has been the opposite. But then these no name brands switch manufacturers all the time anyway so it's a bit of a crapshoot.

        • +2

          agree… sort of.

soniq and this are from the same pot of swill

        • +1

@tonyjzx: my 2c…bought this and a soniq for mum a few months ago. GVA the winner for picture quality out of the box.

        • +1

@WalterM: Yeah my Soniq was from 2 years ago and GVA from 4 months ago so who knows how much either has changed

  • Thanks OP, just bought 2!!

  • +1

    • +1

Cashback applied to original price ($288).

      • +1

        Even better, thanks gentlemen!

        - $3.60 discount (Cash Rewards)

  • I have a soniq with horrible colour banding issues, is the picture quality any better in these?

    • +2

Of course it will be better if your Soniq has banding issues. Read other comments for more info on picture quality.

    • +2

I found that if I hit mine in the sweet spot it works again

  • +2

Not going to be near a store for a couple of weeks so I won't give in into buying it :)

  • +6

I watched the Aussie cricket team batting collapse when I set the SONIQ tv up. I wasn't sure if the TV was shite or just our cricketers. Or both.

  • +1

I own one of this. Highly recommend. The key is to look at price & performance ratio. I cannot find a better option

  • Just bought one and will be picking up tomorrow.

Im assuming these will need some tinkering to get the colours right? anyone some magic numbers for me?

    • +1

I've always liked the number 3 for some reason.

  • Haven't bought a tv before, is $35 delivery normal price?

    • This thing is so light you could even bring it back on a bus

      • Thanks. But it's about 4km away. I don't know if I want to carry it in and out the bus and from the bus stop to my house.

        • +3

unless you're a 10 year old girl, you'll be fine

  • -1

Thinking of pulling the trigger. Will there be any better deals on boxing day? How's the response time, I'll also be using it for gaming.

Where on the tgg website does it say about the vouchers?
Do I buy the extended warranty at eBay checkout, or at pickup in store?

    • +6

I just jumped in the Delorean & fired up the flux capacitor & went to Boxing Day & it was pretty ordinary as usual. You should get this one now.

      • Haha, back to the future fan :)? thanks I got one :)

  • Both my local stores are showing that this item is out of stock :( is shipping the only option or are they able to transfer between stores?

    • +1

my local store was all out, I asked the same said they can't at that price

  • Would be good if Harvey Norman has this to combine with the Amex deal

Bought it for kids - thanks OP

    • This is The Good Guys' homebrand. Harvey Norman doesn't keep it.

      • Thanks for clarifying OP; should be picking it up tomorrow so will see how it goes.

  • and Out of Stock in 3…2…1

    • nevermind, it's back in stock for now

  • How are these orders still being 'processed' three days later?

    • Probably dependent on the store we chose to pick it up from.
I've waited since Monday morning and it finally became ready for pickup earlier today. Not too bad although it means I can't pick it up until the end of the week now.

  • I pullled the trigger last night around 11:30PM and ordered one, pickup at my local GG. Received a phone call at 9:30AM this morning saying its ready to pickup.

My first cheap and nasty TV. Interested to see how it goes.

    • Nice and quick turn around - I had a similar experience, receiving the call only a couple hours after ordering. Keen to hear what you think of the TV

      • +2

Well hooked the TV up last night and as most people have suggested you get what you pay for. Wouldn't say its the sharpest picture I've ever seen on TV nor is the sound that flash, but for what I paid, I'm happy. I didn't think I would ever worry about the quality of the audio, but when you have to listen to this TV through its inbuilt speakers its pretty ordinary. I have connected it to a Target home brand stereo soundbar (Paid $34) and it sound 100% better.

A couple of qwirky things with this TV. Its unbranded, It has no visible branding besides the stickers on the rear. It also has an analogue tuner which the autoscan scans through at the initial setup. The power cord is also fixed.

I'll have a play around with it more over the weekend and see if I can improve the picture somewhat. If anybody else has one and has some magic numbers, please share.

  • Anyone know if the PVR recordings on this will play back on other devices (eg tablets, desktop, media players)? In other words do the recordings made using the built in PVR have DRM encoding (Digital Restrictions! Management)? ;)

  • -

  • Pulled the trigger, along with a Chromecast 2. Hopefully it'll do the trick as a cheap bedroom unit!

  • Having used a (21"!) iMac as a media centre of sorts for many a year, ordered and collected one of these from Ringwood yesterday (the concept of 'spare room TVs' makes me lol). For the price couldn't be happier! Plugged in existing 2.1 speakers, hooked up Mac to VGA (no HDMI adapter on hand), watched Westworld, would recommend. Thanks OP!
