A number of TVs from '20% off The Good Guys eBay' deal have been posted on OzBargain in last few days, but this gem was missing (such a big miss for budget buyers like me). $238.40 is a great price for any brand new 40"+ TV with one year warranty in my opinion. Any positive or negative reviews are welcome but irrespective of it, I believe that the TV must be well worth this price at the least, if not more.

Features highlights: PVR Recording via USB. 3 x HDMI & 1 USB Inputs. 1920 x 1080 Full High Definition.

And, to my surprise, the screen 1" bigger drastically becomes $100 dearer, not sure why. Check 43" model. It makes this deal even more lucrative and convincing.

    Just purchased a GVA product (lightning cable) 2 days ago.
    Returned it today (faulty) tried another 3 GVA cables in store for a replacement, 2 faulty one worked.

    Point is, obviously its a different product, but brand quality control is why their products are so cheap.

      I understand, but the product in question isn't so cheap normally. This deal makes it exceptionally cheap like it does all others from Samsung, LG and so on.

        They're not even really a brand, and they certainly don't test their products at all.

        GVA is a logo stuck on a generic Chinese wholesale product to sell here.

        Same company that made the TV, definitely didn't make the cable.

        Hisense first came out as a cheap no label brand, but had one difference, the warrantied their products so should it fail, you'd be covered.
        People bought them for years due to cost and warranty and the company made enough to build better quality standards but to remain low cost, still use cheap parts.
        The warranty still is extended.
        Point is, GVA have only standard warranty and a cheap generic product. They have their purpose but sadly its landfill in 12months

        But hey it's a cheap TV

          Hisense do offer excellent aftersales service in my experience. Had a fridge of theirs die after 2 years, and they gave a full refund because the model wasn't available anymore.

        Sadly not yet, just moving into a new house and have dumped it off there for now.. But i'm hoping it's good for the price, i don't really need a fancy tv so it should do me fine.

          Same here. I don't need a fancy tv. Any long lasting 40 inch tv will do. 'Long lasting' is the doubtful word for now in this case, though I have bought it and soon to be collected.

    I bought one last week for $298 (doh!) and I have a DSE 39.5" that I bought last year - they're clones, even identical remote controls. As for the picture quality, it's clear and HD content looks very good. They turn on quickly, the menu system is snappy, easy to navigate and the remote is small, logically laid out, and works well (aim it slightly to the right of the telly). For this price, they're a steal.

    They're actually 41.5" (I measured it - it was a slow day)

        I got one before. I was commenting about my despair of not getting it cheaper at this current deal price.

        Honestly I was pleasantly surprised, not that I had huge expectations to begin with.

        Image quality seems reasonably good. There is a cropping issue with content being cut off on the sides but I was able to fix that by changing some settings.

        I was saddened to find that the manual/box shows the USB as an input for media, and was initially running my Chromecast 2 using the power brick. However I thought I'd give it a try anyway and to my surprise it does power the CC2.
        Although that means the CC2 turns off when the TV is off too. The startup time is already slightly lethargic, and powering the CC2 via the TV means you have to wait for that to startup too, adding to the time. It's not huge, but long enough to be a slight annoyance.

        Sound is average as expected. I'm no audiophile, but it does sound worse compared to the Panasonic TV (older plasma) in the house. Maybe consider getting a soundbar or speakers. But for my uses of casual YouTube and movie watching, it's passable.

        Build quality is plasticky and shiny. It's also surprisingly light. Not too bad but you get what you pay for.

        Overall I think you're getting a good deal for your money's worth. Good TV for someone not concerned about getting the best of the best.

        …and a monitor is not a tv replacement. It's only in my room to watch movies not as a PC setup. I just had a spare PC monitor with HDMI which I've been using in lieu of buying another TV.

          Even without voucher, extended warranty for this TV is worth $68. Basically, for roughly $300 your TV is secured for replacement for 3 yrs if anything goes wrong. Still a good value.

          @Aemit: It's a major item, you have to apply some common sense. The tv rrp is $399 according to the title, goods should be lasting with no faults. Acceptable quality takes into account what would normally be expected for the type of product and cost.
          If a company sold tv's that only lasted 3 years do you think they would still be in business?

          I have PERSONALLY been burned by this exact thing - a >$500 TV that failed at 14 months old

          The ACCC and NSW Fair Trading did absolutely nothing.

          The retailer did nothing

          The manufacturer told me to take it to Service Agent who charged me $100 to inspect it and advise me that the repair would be over $300.

          The advice that you are giving people is misleading.

          The ACCC have absolutely NO teeth, power or interest in supporting consumers on this subject.

You don't have to take it anywhere to be repaired, once a seller is aware that you don't know the law they will sometimes take advantage of that.
          I have also had this happen to me years ago before I knew the law with a camera that I bought from Dick Smith, they told me to take to Canon which was about 45 minutes away. After that I looked into it a bit more and found out that was wrong.

          The ACCC and NSW Fair Trading cannot and DO NOT force retailers to comply with warranty claims once the manufacturer's warranty has expired. In this case the retailer K-Mart refused my requests, and my only option was to take them to court myself.

          So, the fact that the law states that a product "should last a reasonable period", that means absolutely nothing unless you are prepared to take legal action.

          @llama: You were treated poorly but that doesn't mean the law isn't the law. I have been involved in traffic accidents where the other driver was clearly in the wrong but unless I took it to court I was never going to get my money. I never said that the ACCC or Fair Trading were going to fight for your case, you need to be prepared and know your rights and state them in front of the retailer.

          I guess we can all learn from your experience. Personally I would document everything, to the point of filming the conversation with the retailer. A Current Affair love that stuff.

        That VESA mount is too small for an 8kg 42" LED TV, it won't support it long term. Needs to be at least 200 X 200mm VESA mount.

          First link on google says a 200x100mm VESA can support up to 23.7kg so I guess it's the screen size that's the problem. However, the website states that display weight should be looked at when choosing a mount. The screen size is just a guideline for the manufacturer to select the hole arrangement (100x100, 200x100, 200x200, etc.)

    Thanks OP, just ordered one as a Christmas pressie. Seems like a good cheapy at a great price. I feel it will serve just fine to play PlayStation games on.

      Cheers.. As I mentioned in one of my comments above, if it lasts long and remains functional, then I don't bother as I was never after a fancy tv for my average use of 30 mins a day. Should work for you.

    I believe this TV is a real hero for those OzBargainers who don't want to spend 2 to 4 times more on bigger brands. I am surprised how this model was totally ignored in previous posts may be just because it's cheap or not a popular or high-end brand or may be because people don't want to take a risk.

    42 inch TV at that price with a one year warranty and still there is moaning from some? The old Soniq I bought for the kids games room about 4 years back is still going strong so these sort of deals can work out very well for those that have a need or use for a cheap model like this.

    A bit like banging on about a great economy flight price being rubbish because you don't get a flat bed seat.

        Who knows, but if it gets through the warranty period ok I would think there's a pretty good chance. There might even be an extended warranty option.

          With solid state electronics IME if it gets through the first few months that's a fair indication that it will generally last a reasonable timeframe unless a dodgy discrete component brings it unstuck down the track…which is not endemic to generic sets, plenty of big brands succumb to this too!

          I had an LG a few years back that popped capacitors like popcorn, the service centre told me that they deliberately kept massive stocks of that one component for those models just to make their own life easier! I ended up getting it replaced under FT law because even though they were repairing it under statutory warranty for nix each time, it was in for repair more often than it was in my home. Unlike my previous LG plasma battle saga, they didn't even fight this one, they just agreed to arrange a store credit.

          Truth be told, I've honestly had a better run out of my cheapies than I've had out of LG, I'd never have another LG TV, just because I've been stung by them too many times! ;)

          @28Degrees: I am not promoting it, nor I am a rep. I purchased it today and for a li'l extra, I feel I have a peace of mind for 3 yrs which is required for such brand. That's the only reason I have recommended it. It's up to you if you want to buy it or not.
