    • The original owner was from HK (Mr Ho Kok Ching) http://www.hongkongdimsim.com.au/about-us/our-story/ who learnt the skill of cooking before transferring his knowledge when moving to Sydney circa 1977.

      • Thanks. Interesting. Seems like it's a mix between his own take on the Aussie dim sim, and more typical dim sum products?

had these before.. taste awful… I'm from Hk, they taste nothing like what siu mai should be… full of flour… more like the dim sim at fish and chip shop

You get what you pay for. They are definitely not Din Tai Fung quality that's for sure.

      • Din Tai Fung is not Southern Chinese food

        • The quality is what scrimshaw is referring to. I have to say, having tasted it, at full supermarket price, I probably will not buy it. But at half-price, it is still pretty good value, as snacks.

    • That's why they're called Dim Sim (the dish, not Dim Sum the style) rather than siu mai.

      • it's deceptive cause when you look at it, you would think it's frozen siu mai

    • Because Dim Sim is not siu mai, it's dim sim, which is an Australian invented dish. They should NEVER be confused with each other.

Who bought them all at Top Ryde 🙁

    • Thanks to you I saved myself a trip to Top Ryde woolies!

    • Still some left at West Ryde.

Who bought them all at Campsie?

  • Does this have meat ? I'm carnivorous

    • Pork.

      • 110% Halal certified pork, of course! ;)

  • Always get them in when half price. Good value, but always goes quick, you can always do rain check though

Just had four of em… one packet has 12 dimsim in them. Steamed them, then had some chilli sauce and worcestershire sauce on the side (no Chinese vinegar here :(). Tasted perfectly palatable.

Visited two local woolies, couldn't find it :(

    • They do not seem to be available at all stores. I just chanced on it today at a store I hardly go to.

I have tried this particular range of Dim Sims before, was disappointed because I thought they were siu mais. Now I understand that these are 'dim sims' which are designed to be unauthentically asian.

The same Hong Kong Dim Sim brand also do a range of pork buns, siu mais and pork chive dumplings. They are a bit smaller, but closer to authentic Cantonese and in my opinion is the best dumpling you can buy at Coles.

    • To be honest, they kind of look like siu mai, so I was also expecting siu mai. I didn't see the other ones in the range - siu mais, pork chive etc. (Not sold by the store I was in). Are those ones any good? Just for reference, in case they come on sale :-)

I expect these ones are as bad as the Coles prawn gyoza. Thanks for sharing

Amazing a Dim Sum thread can generate so much interest :) Anyway, I bought two too !

  • Marathon dim sims are better.

Dim sims are so gross and unauthentic. Much prefer the dumplings you can get in Asian grocery shops. Check them out! So many different ones all made in Australia from Australian meat, and no msg.

      Lol I'm getting confused.

You are saying that these Australian made dim sims are not authentic Australian dim sims?

      • +1

Hang on, now you're confusing me too…

Should I be getting the Aussie ones made from Asian meat, or the Asian ones made from Aussie meat?

    • +3

Dim Sims are authenticly Aussie, just like the Chiko roll.

Just tried them. They are good dim sims. Boil them on low heat with lid on for 15 minutes and dip them with some Asian spicy sauce. Yum.

I couldn't resist a pack whilst I was grabbing some of those mug cakes for the kids (scout's honour)…steamed them up for dinner, yummo!

It's noteworthy, however, that I got a mere 3 from a pack of 12…the wife who had no interest at Woolies & the rugrats had no qualms scoffing them once cooked! :/

    • steaming is better

  • I just tried the dim sim without any dipping sauce after steaming them for 15 minutes.

Dim sim is too salty and starchy.

Pork bun is okay but not as good as the crazy dragon ones.

Really enjoyed both the pork buns and the dim sims. Time to stock up on more.

  • full price at macquarie centre.

  • Just had the pork buns for lunch - yummy.
