7-Eleven Fuel App Watch - Nationwide - January 2017 to January 2022 » All Comments

          • +1

@Sola: Jerry cans? Time to invest in some 44's!!

            • +1

@danyool: Haha, jokes aside I actually am looking for 1 or 2 more jerry cans. I filled them all up at $1.26 before the recent spike to $1.60 and just used my last 20L days before the prices dropped. Timed perfectly but another 20 or 40L would be handy to ride out the next spike. Every time I save money on fuel the saving goes into Christmas account - we're having a good Christmas this year :)

  • It's ok now. Could be the app or their server was not working last night (midnight). Anyway, thanks.

    • Still not working for me ☹️

  • +1

Oil glut is here. Trump has pressured Saudis not to cut production. AUD been steady, looks like we've got some bargains. Time to stockpile.

    • Wouldn't it be amazing if it dropped to $1/L for the holidays?

      • +3

        I’m averaging less then 50cents a litre

        1.28 at Coles
        -10 cents flybuys
        -4 cents shop a docket
        -6 cents ozbargain voucher

Paid using Coles Myer gift cards purchased at 40% off with Amex vogue offer

Less 38.5% tax ( salary sacrifice private vehicle)

        • +1

          username checks out

        • You get tax free fuel? Jealous.

And what is this flybuys offer people keep talking about. I've been using it for years and its not on my offer list.

          • @Levathian: 10c flybuys offer is emailed out to targeted people. My wife occasionally gets one, I never have.

          • +1

@Levathian: Tax free only on the term of the lease so not forever

10 cents is on flybuys account that’s targeted. I use it at the bottom of the cycle as 7/11 mock locations is cheaper at top of cycle

        • buying gift card with vogue offer is clever. Thanks for the tip! Just need to wait another 10 month now!

        • Who pays fbt on your vehicle? Is that something withheld from your trp? Or employer pays but could otherwise be added on top of your trp?

      • +1

Hmmm wishful thinking. There's so many factors in the price.

        • We actually got $1/litre E10 fuel not too long ago. The only time I'd opt for E10.

      • A metro is Campbelltown Sydney was $1.119 last night. We will definitely see some independants under $1.10 but $1/L could be another story. The best I could do so far is $1.22

  • +1

I wish I knew exactly when fuel prices were going to rise again. This has been the longest continual drop in prices in a while and I want to time it perfectly.

    • Just keeping filling up and locking in while it is low, that is all you can do. Prices are near the bottom of the cycle so not worth risking holding out for 1-2 cents, then seeing prices jump to 160.

    • Several Caltex/Woolworths servos jacked up price today since Coles Express failed to take the lead 2 weeks ago.

  • +4

    95 126.9 Werribee VIC

    • 2c/L cheaper than the previous anomalous price tab Werribee earlier this week.

    • Seems to have ended

      • That's excellent price.

  • +3

91 $120.4 at north Ryde and albany creek!!

  • +1

App not picking up 129.9 in Malvern East for 95. And why is Diesel still so expensive :(

    • It's 128.9 now on the store finder. I haven't tried to lock it.

      • +1

Mine keeps going to Tooronga Valley at 1369

        • Malvern East showing 139.9 for 95 now ?

    • +1

Yep. Coming up on the lock screen now as well but I'm holding out for discounted U98.

  • +1

A number of Woolworths are between 127.9-132.7 for U95 in and around Melbourne, so with 5% wish gift cards, they're cheaper than the 131-ish lock in prices at effectively 121.5-126.1.

    • Don't forget 4c/L off from a supermarket shop as well. Maybe another 4c/L off for $5+ in-store spend.

      • +2

What I posted was 4c discounted. I should have clarified.

  • -8

Unable to login into 7eleven app using nox v6.0.8.0
I get error code Golf, anyone?

    • +2

Nope absolutely no one. I know because I searched the word 'golf' in the comments, trust me.

      • -4

not sure why all the neg?

        • +2

Because you should make the effort to search the post before asking for help. This has already been covered in detail several times. We are not going to repeat every time someone asks….

          • +5

@billy_bob: Thank you. Had to upgrade the android emulator to 7.1.2 to fix the ligjn issue. All good now

  • +27

    98 @ 119.9 Ashwood VIC

    • +1

Yeah just as i filled up wow everytime
Edit In Canberra its still 173 so 137 wasn't bad but still

    • +1

Thanks! New record for 2018?! :D

    • Thanks for the heads up!

    • -3

Probability of being banned by locking that in for interstaters?

      • +1

Why do people keep asking this question? It doesn't happen. Been locking interstate for a couple years now and its fine. 7/11 is getting money so they can't complain, otherwise people would buy fuel elsewhere.

        • -2

Because it has happened before and I rely on the 7/11 app for savings when fuel prices are high

          • +5

@Levathian: Most of the bans (if not all) were for locking in U91 for 0.1c/L.

          • +1

@Levathian: Unless it is an extreme case like Sween64's example, I have not seen any comment about being banned for regular fuel specials.

      • Highly unlikely

      • Do split screen on your phone so that only the code to scan shows on half of the screen. Attendant doesn't need to see the price.
Did this today, had no problems and locked U98 33L for $1.199 again to use in 7 days.

        • They can see the price and your savings on their screen though

  • -1

When I try and lock for a 3 account on nox I get a bug where it keeps looping me back to homescreen "find best local". I tried changing IMEI, reloading, moving a little, any ideas on bug fix?

    • +2

      seriously? 3 accounts?

      • -2

        Do you have more?

      • +3

I lock in for my family when I see good deals.

        • Same, 3 accounts means I can lock Diesel, U91, and P98 all at the same time (using Nox + phone).

    • +1

2 locks per device per 24 hour period

      • +3

        Android ID*

    • Make a new emulator window with nox multi instance. It should have a different Android ID so you can lock on more accounts with it

      • ah yeah that's what I did last time, I totally forgot. I thought IMEI change would do the trick.

  • +3

ashwood (U98 @119.9) just happens to be my closest 7/11 - their U91 pumps are out of action so they're offering U98 at normal U91 price. lock her in, baby…. 7/11 tanker will arrive 7am tomorrow apparently.

    • +1

      gone already…:( sad

  • +1

FML went to lock in 98 @ $1.19 and it just changed to $137.5 (should've been quicker).

Does anyone know if there's a way to see how much money you've saved on fuel since using 7/11 Fuel App ?

    • Nope but that's a good idea. I saved $16 just today.

    • I recall seeing an email which they send you once in a while telling you how much money you saved over the last year. If anything to remind you how much you love their app

  • +13

for those that missed the u98 under 120. U95 just dropped…119.9 @ Tooronga Valley, Hawthorn East, VIC

    • goneeeeee

      • There's gotta be a pattern of price drops during 11am-3pm. Last couple have been during those times.

  • In a minor miracle, it was best value for me to fill up at coles Express. U91 was 119.9, less 10c targeted discount from flybuys and a 4c discount from a shop docket, also bought 2 packs of dunny paper for $20 to get a further 10c off.

    • +2

Haha, yep me too. First time I have been to Coles Express in about 3 years! Came to 106 per litre, which is pretty good. The targeted 10c off can be used multiple times which is also unusual.

    • I filled up at Caltex for $1.19, minus 4c off, minus 9.1% as I bought a few gift cards through a prezzee deal (buy $50 get $5 free)

  • U98 at BP Braddon ACT 2601 is 101.1 p/l(last check 5hrs ago), it's madness.
    edit: outdated or error.

  • -3

No fuel prices available error in blue stacks anyone?

  • +4

U95 back down to 119.9 @ Pascoe Vale VIC

    • Missed the one at Tooronga Valley and now I just missed this one! Unbelievable how quickly it goes back up

      • yeah,,how do they do that??it should atleast reflect the price for 2hours unless theyre just catching us up.

      • +2

U95 and 98 (highest premium available at that site) are only lowered to the u91 price at that store when they have run out of u91 as a form of compensation, I'd imagine they'd be calling in tankers almost immediately which would explain why these prices generally don't last longer than half a day.

        • yeah that's typically the case but have a look at the time stamp. in a matter of half an hour they have already called in a tanker in that short amount of time?

          • @angelkulit025: Maybe it happened to already be on the way…

            • @sween64: probably =)

              • +5

@angelkulit025: I was physically there at Ashwood servo when the tanker arrive. Managed to fill my car up and lock in price at the same time. U98 @ 119.9!!!

        • -1

Sometimes it could be due to price error and they will update the price immediately when they find it out.

  • Interesting - apart from WA, the rest of the country has pretty much the same lowest price.

    • +4

Bad news as all states will probably rise at the same time.

  • +6

Woolies Caltex Bonnyrigg is cheapest atm @ 117.5 U91 plus 4c OFF and using discounted WISH eGC.
or 117.9 for U91 @ Blacktown, Prospect, West Ryde Woolies Caltex.

Not all Woolies Caltex stores accept WISH eGC.
Put in the postcode to check:

    • I wish I had that link a week ago, thanks.

  • So there are two different modifieds apps - is one better than the other?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288802?page=38#comment-627…
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288802?page=43#comment-641…
    Either OK?

    • +2

pretty sure they were both hacked the same way - which is find the code which checks whether mock locations is turned on and always return false.

      • +1

Pretty much. I released one, then master released one. I doubt there is any differences between the 2..

        • Hey Freighter, what tools do you use to hack the app like that, or is it trade secret? Still working great for me, although sometimes it still detects my real location and I have to go into Fake GPS settings and change from "No Root Mode" to "New No Root Mode" and try going back and forth a few times until it finally works.

          • +1

@billy_bob: Not a secret at all. I was going to make a write up about it, but never got around to doing it. I only made my first little tutorial on the WikiCamps App (that's a really good practicing app since it's so easy to crack. But pay the $5 or whatever it is to support them if you like camping, it's really good!) and I have no idea if it's any use.

I think tomorrow I'll reply fully how to do it, but all you need is 3 things. I use APK Easy Tool to disassemble the APK into SMALI code (which is easy enough to muck around with) and then compile it again. Then I use JADX to browse through the java readable source code. If you use 1.5.2 APK it's unobfuscated so it makes a lot more sense to read (i.e. it will say something like "SecurityUtil.mocklocation = false" whereas obfuscated would read "a.z = false") and you need a free Google Cloud Maps API. And a bit of trial and error!

Also fun fact, if you modify the 1.5.2 APK (which is easier) to disable root/mock location checking all you need to do is change in the program where it says the app version "1.5.2" and "960" or whatever it is to the current one and you can use that APK.

I hope that made a little sense.

        • Thanks for the info guys
and thank YOU Freighter for doing the apk

          • +3

@King Tightarse: No worries mate. I was keeping it to myself for a while and then I got saved enough money I thought I should give something back for once.

  • Any ideas about the 'Golf' error in the app?
I have got everything set up and now for some reason It won't log me in - keep getting error 'Golf'
Have tried all the regular fixes - removed sim, cleared cache etc.
    Not happening!

    • +1

If your account is on both devices this 'golf' error might occur. Try logging out of one of them. And only log into the one that you want to lock in the petrol. Once thats completed log out. And log back into the device that you want to use for the discount. Ie you can't log into two advices at once. As they fixed this error.

  • +2

Brisbane's average has risen steadily the last three days. Some stores are rising to 149.9 for U91. I think 116.9 is the lowest we will see for awhile.

  • Blatant price jacking by servos/mother companies happening again with some jacking it up to 150 again..

There needs to be a watchdog on petrol srsly.

Wholesale petrol prices have remained almost the same, oil prices worldwide have remained stable at yearly lows and the AUD/USD exchange rate has been the same too.

Someone explain why some servos are jacking the prices with more following..

    • Market forces.

Edit: The Fleetcare webpage I linked to previously has gone. Here's another but it's not quite as good.

  • +1

Pretty good price for diesel at the moment 131.9 @ Richlands, Qld

  • +7

@billy_bob: Here is my tutorial on how to remove the mock locations. https://pastebin.com/e5GvxVKp Hopefully it is somewhat detailed.. I didn't bother going into how to decompile/recompile the APK because I figured you could Google/YouTube it (it's pretty simple).

Any other questions I'm more than happy to help!

ALSO, it's much easier to work on 1.5.2 instead of the latest version, but people like the latest and greatest (lol) so this one works fine!

Edit: if someone learns anything from this I'll be happy! Also, you can try modifying the app yourself and remove the root check too!

  • +5

U95 dropped to 120.9 in Keilor East, VIC

    Same price as their U91

    • +1

Thank you. just locked in 60L

    • +1

      All gone =(

      • Yep, went up by 41c

  • Anyone having issues locking today with Nox? Goes back to the front page whenever I try locking after I choose the amount.

    • Yea - I'm having the same issue just with the mobile app itself. Won't lock the fuel prices and just bounces back to the home page

      • I just locked in fine with the mobile app

    • Have u locked in the last 24 hours. Limit of 2 per 24 hour period

      • Yeah I have. With 2 different accounts. Will try again tomorrow.

        • +1

App Cloner works to create clones and switch android id. It got delisted from g play store though

          • @cwongtech: Yeah now can't run it without it saying you must update from the play store but it isn't listed in the play store. What's the way around this?

  • +1

Most servos in VIC climbing back up to 149.9c/L- lock in while you can!

    • Same in QLD… better make like ur in the "Hotseat" :-)

  • 7/11 Hampton Park has re-opened and showing LPG at .699 however, not showing on Master131 script?

    • Is LPG the only fuel with a noticeable discount?

      • No Put it this way In Canberra my local is 173 and Bankstown has u98 for 133.9

    • In Victoria? I can't find it in the store finder…

  • U91 115.9 11-Seven Bankstown Bankstown NSW 2200

    • -4

its not coming up in 7-11 app. 115.9 is for special unleaded

      • +7

        Yes u91 is special unleaded

  • Prices going up in Sydney. My local servo has U91 for 151.9 now.

    • +1

Thats some greedy pricing there, taking advantage of uninformed consumers. At 36.6c above the TPG (wholesale) price. That is the biggest I have seen in quite a few years of watching fuel prices. Would this be a Shell servo by any chance?

Edit: I think this is the biggest jump I have ever seen. Are they expecting a rapid turn-around (i.e. an increase) in TPG prices?

      • +2

TGP is still falling. It's down to $1.12 in Brisbane now.

It would be nice if the govt could cap prices to within say 10% of the TGP..

        • TGP still falling.. yet prices are surging!?

  • +4

    U91 114.2 11-Seven Bankstown NSW 2200

    • +7

      U91 113.9 Minto NSW 2566

      Not yet on master's script.

      • +1

        E10 111.9 Minto NSW 2566
        U95 125.9 Minto NSW 2566
        U98 131.9 Minto NSW 2566

        Not yet on master's script.

      • +12

Seems like that petrol station is missing from the store list I have. Will look into it.

        • +1

Looks like you've fixed it, except for U95 which still says Revesby at 126.2. when Minto is 125.9.

  • -1

im going to call it now.

Week before Xmas, U91 will be >$1.50cpl.

    These prices are ridiculously low….

  • -10

        • +4

not sure why so many neg votes 😂

If you're still not sure then there's no hope

        • People don't like repetitive questions quite simply. A quick page search will find another person with the same issue.

  • I had to screenshot this
Coles Express are normally heaps more expensive - currently they are the only one on the Pacific Hwy (off the M1) that's cheap. So it's 113.4 (10c off Flybuys + 4c docket) for 91 compared to 151.4 literally 50m later.

    • Coles Express Marsfield is the champion in NSW these days with U91 pump priced at 119.4c/l.

      • Yeah I saw that also, except there's a few around Ryde/Macquarie Park that are priced low. Going along that stretch the next cheapest is 150.9

I'd need to be running on empty to make the trip to Marsfield worth it atm.

        • All nearby servos are much higher surprisingly. Parklea is also consistently low, but E10 only.

          • @Neoika: For E10
Apex at West Ryde is 113.9
            Coles Express Marsfield is 117.9
            Coles Express Drummoyne is 118.9
            Metro Lane Cove is 121.9
            Metro Ryde is 121.9
Coles Express North Ryde is 122.4
            7-11 Lane Cove is 122.9
            BP Lane Cove is 122.9

Granted there are a lot of expensive ones but also quite a few cheap ones too!

    • What app is that?

      • +2

Would explain why you haven't heard from it if you were from Melbourne.
It's FuelCheck - a NSW initiative that shows every petrol station near you with their current prices as well as trends on whether petrol is going up/down, cheapest and most expensive in NSW etc

        • +1

Ahhh! I have seen the website.

    • @pennypincher98 unsure if it’s already been posted. But how do you get the 10c off for Flybuys?

      • Targeted offers - you'll get an email and it'll show on Flybuys app if you are

Offers range between 6c off, 10c off, 2x/5x/10x bonus points or X points spending $Y.
A nice discount - been targeted so many times for this but normally don't use it much as Coles Express is much more expensive. This time is great, filled up.

Oh and you can use it as many times as you want before expiry :)

      • You can request the card number from him or post a "Wanted" in classified section. Many people are willing to share (including me). It does not harm to share it as others can not redeem points with only card numbers. Help others saving a few dollars while only earning a few cents.

  • have trouble getting it to work on BlueStacks. 7-Eleven app detects that it's a rooted device and won't load.
is the modded APK still around? https://track6.mixtape.moe/bxctuj.apk doesn't seem to work.

  • +12

Sorry mate, I fudged up! When I was making the tutorial somewhere above I was confirming to myself what the first check actually does.
So whats actually happening is if you're not rooted the app is tricked into saying you are rooted, whereas if you are rooted it thinks you're not rooted - reverse psychology 😳.

This should be the real deal now, hopefully this link lasts for a while!

And I dont even reply to the bloke I meant to.

    • Thanks!!

    • This is awesome. Thanks for helping us all out.

      • The link died :'(

Edit: A link works but now my app doesn't update its location so I can't lock in anything.

    • File isn't available.

  • +1

Well Petrol just went up a fair bit…..

    • +3

It's also gotta be the first time the West Coast has been cheaper than East Coast

Note that Wangara WA price isn't updated yet. It's 119.9c for U91, not 122c

    • Yep… Looks like an impromptu visit to Perth is in order.

  • Good old 7-Eleven app. When prices were clearly about to spike, it wouldn't let me lock in 113.9 at Minto NSW.

Luckily I stockpiled 130L and a full tank at 114.2 days earlier. My little car gets 6L/100 with it's 30L tank. I'm good for the next 2,500KM.

    • +4

Stockpile, as in into Jerry cans?

    • 6L/100? Nice what car?

    • How many kms do you drive a month?

  • +2

Anyone want a U95 voucher at 120.9? It's expiring at 4:31am tomorrow morning Melbourne time.

    • Yes please!

      • Looks like you have pm disabled. Send me a pm so I can reply.

    • Gone now to Nacho. That'll be $3 thanks. ;-)

  • Anyone else having trouble logging in this morning?

    • Ignore, working now.

  • Tried redeeming a voucher this morning, attendant said the system is down Aus wide. He took my details and gave me a receipt.
I believe you email support and they credit you the difference or something?

    • +3

yep, details are in the t's and c's

      • Cheers

        • +2

You can also give them a call with your receipt and they'll credit the difference!

    • +2

So sent them an e-mail this morning, they just got back to me saying that I should have been credited with $7.97, but they have credited me with $10 on my card. Great service!

  • price gng up :-( Is crude oil price gng up too?

  • +6

    U91 115.9 @ Wangara WA tomorrow

  • +6

Woolworths Canning Vale/Maddington WA will be 1.10c tomorrow with 4c discount, even less with 5% of gift cards.

    • -5

not everyone lives around Canning Vale unfortunately..

      • +4

Well it was an FYI to those that do :)

Anyone want voucher for 58L of 98 @133.9? Expires Tues 8:21pm

    • No thanks but out of interest what's the way you are able to transfer the voucher? Keen to do this if I don't use mine.
Just a screenshot? That won't automatically use the topped up amount though will it?

      • +2

I'll just msg/email a screenshot. Nah it only gets you the discounted rate, not the account's funds.

      • +3

The money in your account can only be used if a separate barcode to your fuel lock is shown. Tap on "my card" to show it.

        • Thanks - was wondering how that worked. I've never paid for it using account funds - but was wondering why people shared their vouchers thinking it would access your funds too!

    • +2

Update: Voucher sent to a member :)

  • +1

Well looks like its going up so I locked in which me luck https://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/fuelwatch/pages/home.jspx

  • Anyone having issues logging in to the app this morning? It's not working on my end..

  • Anyone noticed a major LPG price drop recently? Any insight for this and how long would this last?

  • I'm trying to get an E10 voucher from Truganina, Vic (cheapest on the projectzerothree site), but keep getting a message about "fuel type selected is not available near your current location"

Is this just a coincidence or some sort of new location spoofing prevention?

    • Check your location.
For some reason, one of my clones of 7/11 app couldn't detect the proper GPS spoofed location.. keeps getting stuck a few suburbs away.
Ended up reinstalling the clone app and it was fine.

      • How do you check your location? I'm using nox and the location seems to be correct.

        • Oh I use my phone to do it.
Just go into 7/11 without click lock my fuel, and view your position in the map, if it doesn't match up with what you tried to spoof GPS to, then try reinstall the app

          • @cwongtech: GPS location is correct according to the "store finder" in the app.

            • @salmon123: Seems to be an install issue. Started working once I fired up a clean nox.

    • Why not just lock in u91, which is cheaper than E10 at the moment?

      • +1

That must be a recent update … but I can't trust my wife to find the U91 pump.

  • Is there a new way to get your spoofed location working under iOS with the 7-Eleven app?

I'm using a jailbroken iphone with Liberty and GPSCheat apps, but the 7-Eleven app is still showing my real location, but the GPS spoofing works when I open google maps.

I'm using the latest version of the 7-Eleven app (1.6.0.1673) Any pointers?

      • +2

What? I thought maintaining that script was your full time job? :P
Thanks for all the work you've put into helping the OB community save money in petrol.

        • +21

Haha, I've quickly sneaked in a temporary fix though the results may be sub-optimal (ie. there may be a petrol station with a better price).

  • Hi Guys,

It won't let me lock, it jumps back to the main screen when I try to lock in the amount - is there any way around this?
I think it's because I kept clicking Find My Best Local Price multiple times while GPS spoofing around

  • +7

Diesel just dropped to 127.9 - only about 2c above terminal gate prices!

    • It's gone up to 143.9 now

Emu plains still has it at that price. Crazy, 20cents cheaper than my local.

        • +1

So it does, I was looking at the other Emu Plains store.

  • i'm not sure if this has been asked,

how do you withdraw the money you've deposited in there?

at the moment i have 80$ in the account but i do have a locked voucher.

does withdraw appear when there is no lock? i won't be able to withdraw with a locked?

    • +1

You cant withdraw money. Use this money when you fill in petrol if you want to utilise that money

      • +1

Yep as above, tell the attendent you want to pay via app. I believe you can use these $$ for in-store purchases aswell.

    • Tap on the "my card" button to reveal your account barcode to scan when paying.

    • +1

I don't bother, I deposit to the max of $150, takes a few days as you can only deposit a certain amount at a time, but once its there than you have the maximum capacity to lock in fuel when its cheap as above. Then just pay with credit card or cash at the servo to keep your $150 balance. Helps to take a few jerry cans with you and then you are set for the next couple of weeks.

  • +6

In regards to my little website that I made to lock in automatically, I think I need some testers before I release it to you all.

Anyway, if you're interested at all shoot me a message and you can see how it goes.

@zooter; I'll release the code within a week so you all can play around with it however you like, I've had my share of fun with it and I think it's pretty much finished. Although, I have noticed a bug or 2 yesterday while mucking about with it a bit more.. If you have an idea how to make it more secure let me know.

    • +1

Happy to help test if needed. Do this stuff for a living

    • Can't wait to see the code, I always wanted to work on projects like this so there'll be a lot to learn from it.

    • +1

      Happy to be a tester!

      • +1

Love your work, I can be a tester :)

    • +1

      I am interested

    • +1

If this is good to go with a mac computer and android phone , i'm happy to be a tester. definitely not a tech genius, more just the average user.

      • That's the beauty of it, dead simple to use. You login with your browser, click "lock in price", wait about 30-60 seconds, and it's saved. No need for any other programs/apps

        • I'm happy to test and report.
          Please pm

    • This is a bad idea, the program could spread out of this small thread and then 7-11 have more incentive to shut it down.

Do not release the app !!!

      • Ditto, everything's fine as it is.

      • +3

Freighter has obviously put a lot of effort into this website, and I'm all for making fuel locks more accessible.

But we do need to try to stay off 7 elevens radar. The occasional front page deal is bad enough. After the website is developed, perhaps we could share the link by PM, rather than posting it for all to see.

        • +4

What makes you think this thread is not under 7/11's radar? It could very well be there even before the 0.001c locks happened.

Your PM link idea won't help as users can just share the link or post it online any way they want.

The current methods to cheat the fuel lock is already fine and convenient enough. IMO, 7/11 is being lenient on how this matter is treated but I say don't push it to the limit.

      • +3

Yeh I agree this web based fuel locker. Could be the straw that finally breaks the camels back.

    • +1

Do you guys remember the time when Tony Stark thought building Ultron was his greatest idea for peace-keeping program? Well, this is the moment :(

      • -1

        How so?

        • +1

Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man got tired with all the fights with extra-terrestrial beings (all the effort we have to do to run Nox, search for best fuel price, etc) so he builds Ultron, an AI program that was created for the betterment of mankind and to protect earth from extra-terrestrial threat (Freighter's idea to create a website to automatically lock-in the best fuel price).

To cut the story short, once Ultron had developed his self-awareness and could access to all of Iron Man's technology, he realised that mankind is actually the greatest threat to Earth because we're busy killing each other and destroying the environment. As a result, his motivation now is to eliminate all mankind and replace them with machines.

To quote TS Elliot- “Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions.”

          • -1

@Gorodemon: So the app is going to be self-aware, shoot lasers and cause a genocide?

            • +4

@ronnknee: That's one possiblity, but a web app may be the final straw on blatant price lock cheating.

    • You rock! I am interested to be a tester.

    • Awesome! Can I be a tester please?

        • Is it really worth saving $2? Cost more in petrol and car parts wear doing that lol

    • Love ya mate, thanks for the Christmas present.

    • Wow. And that's a servo I can actually justify being near. Merry Christmas!!

    • Locked it in !

I always get sus about these really low priced fuel deals like they're trying to catch people who mock locations.

      • +9

This servo is my local and i had a chat with the guy after i filled up. He told me its been so busy in Palmy lately that they simply ran out of U91 and U98 is all they have left, so they dropped the price to match the U91 price. He said he still gets people complaining that their "car doesnt need U98"! :-)

  • Is there any way to set up an alert whenever the fuel price goes below a certain price point?

  • is 98 really beneficial for the car or just a myth?
if i still have most of the fuel in tank as 91 or e10, then put bit of 98 to top it up, will it have negative effects?

    • +1

No negative effects afaik, apart from to your wallet costing 20c more (although probably get a bit better fuel economy)…but when you its within a couple of cents of U91 prices, I always opt for U98 (get weird looks from the attendant when filling up U98 for my Mitsubishi Colt lol).

    • From previous research information 98 fuel burns longer than 91. Depending on the price you can get more bang for your buck with the 98. Also on a side note it's better for your engine so in reality it is better to fill up with 98 than 91 in regards to km/L as well as keeping your engine from clunking out sooner

      • +1

Can you provide me with the research on where it says that it's better for your engine and in what way

        • +1

Its more about Research Octane Number (RON) which are the numbers for different petrol types: 91, 95 & 98. Mostly relevant for car engines that really need 95 or 98. A quick google found these which explain it fairly well:
          https://www.mynrma.com.au/membership/my-nrma-app/fuel-resour…
          https://www.canstarblue.com.au/vehicles/which-petrol-should-…
          Have a read…

          • @Sola: It's in the chemistry.
Branched octane (octane isomers) have higher compressibility without ignition(resistance to nock) than straight-chain octane.
RON 98 have more branched isomers than RON 91, hence RON 98 would support higher compression ratios in engines.

A knock is an unintended localised ignition of fuel and air mixture inside the chamber during the compression stroke. If this is to happen before the piston reaches its ideal position(before the spark plug ignites) that can cause damage to engine internals.

To put it simply, say 1 mitre long stick can be broken with 1 pound of pressure, but if there were four 25cm long sticks bundled together, it would require more force to break that bundle. (ie 91 octane is 1 mitre stick, 98 is four 25cm bundle).

When they burn, 98 would burn slowly compared to 91, but it will have the same energy, just like the sticks analogy.

      • Use the cheapest fuel that doesn’t ping or knock

        https://youtu.be/WYlk9C1o0nk

      • my car manual specifically mentions that the recommended fuel type is 91. i am wondering if filling up 98 will be beneficial or worth it

        • +1

If your car is not manufactured to run on RON 98 then the benefits will be minimal. Extra additives in RON 98 to clean the carbon and sulfur deposit build-up may help though.

    • (personal opinion only)I find a big difference when filling up petrol from old service station and newly renovated station. Car runs more smoother when I fill up from new station!! Did anyone notice difference

      • This is a well-known fact. Ask people who've done around the country trip, they will tell you how bad the fuel quality in north WA.
Fuel quality monitoring is good in Australia (although the standards are not as good in Europe), but the storage conditions and maintenance of underground tanks are the biggest factors contributing to poor fuel quality in Australia.

does it matter if it was $2 or $2mil? it's not just a set and forget system, there needs to be maintenance performed, server and traffic costs etc

    • Had a quick look over the code, you've obviously put a bit of work into it. Thanks for sharing.

      • No worries. I have more stuff coded that wasn't released (yet), like topping up your card balance and I'm sure if I had a spare/another Sim card I could get the registration to work too and even making scannable barcodes would be easy.

But I haven't made anything from anything I've released (not that I necessarily need or want to) but it's interesting that there's been 50000 API hits over the past month, whether that's locking in fuel or moving the map etc.

    • I will check it out. Sounds interesting. Thx

    • Very nice bit of code. Just setup a second 7-Eleven account on a separate device (different email/mobile number/debit card) and tested successfully. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing.

    • +18

Have to say I'm totally against this - 7-11 already know we're doing things a bit dodgy here, but seem to be happy to overlook it as long as it has some complexity (what I mean is they've actively blocked easy GPS hacks, etc).

Making it too easy (and therefore more widespread) has a high chance of making them either work to block all GPS hacks by monitoring locations, looking for too-quick interstate movements, or just simply shut it down all together.

      • +3

Yes and I can't help but think they'll take legal action against Freighter

        • Not if Freighter claims they have underpaid him while he was working under them.

      • +3

I agree and I don't see what's so hard about locking it in yourself. As it is we're treading a fine line with the automated price lists and people miraculously travelling across the country to lock in those prices.

Just filled up full tank at 7 eleven Waverley gardens. 128.5c is a good price for 98. I locked in 50 litres as well.

    Enjoy. :-)

    • so $0.03 of savings.

      • I didn't know if there's a cheaper price, and I had locked in 132.9c when I filled in.

Besides, I filled in about 70 litres, so it's more than $0.03. :-)

        • I bolted when I saw this post. What I meant was $0.03 per L. So $2.10 of savings, still something.

        • You could have requested one in the forum. I believe loads of people locked P98 at 114.7 and will be due soon.

You could have requested one in the forum. I believe loads of people locked P98 at 114.7 and will be due soon.

I'm still a bit unclear on the "requesting a voucher" in the forum. Does this mean I could request someone to send their locked screenshot, and then I use it to fill up so their lock is released? Just what is this voucher?

Sorry for the noob question. Your help is appreciated.

      • A different version of this

TLDR - A browser based method of locking prices so you don't need a modified APK on your phone or an Android emulator on your computer.

        • -1

People are mad at the fact it's easier to do when it's browser based.
At the end of the day, then can mess with the app to stop us, this isn't going to change anything.

    • Oh how clever are you! Thank you!

      • All credit is to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/1958 :) - I suck at Username tagging, so here's his URL.
His code, but i just modified it a little :)

        • what are these little modifications you made? Perhaps Freighter can incorporate them in his codebase if you raise a merge request for him. Also this link is only http whereas the previous link provided by Freighter was https.

          • +1

@Jit0809: Only CSS changes, I personally didn't want it to reference seveneleven at all.
I could implement https later, but personally not a priority as it's running on a azure linux box

            • @Schema: How does running on an azure box stop our username and password being sent in clear text.

        • +1

Just got Nox to work fine.

          • @snapper: I'll restart the webserver it's on and see if that fixes it, may need to have it automatically do every few hours.

Let me know if you were able to lock in

        • +1

          Ditto to the apk version.

        • Just rebooted the webserver it's running on, see how it goes now.

I just locked in my personal account just then

          • @Schema: Hi Catalystic - unfortunately still appears to be errors as it times out. :(

          • @Schema: I just tried, it eventually gave a Google.aps.exceptions.timeout

            /home/<ur login>/app.py, line 2309 in call

            • @[Deactivated]: has my name in the directory, thanks though :)

@apy Seems to be intermittent with Google's location API :-/

              • @Schema: I’m also getting the same timeout exception

    • Same problem. Using Freighter's version. I haven't locked in for over a week

      • Yea same problem just then.

  • Is the projection that prices will continue to stay low/drop further or increase in the next week weeks ?

    • Here's the best indicator of the wholesale price.

      https://www.aip.com.au/pricing/terminal-gate-prices

And the singapore index (it's on the rise again).
      https://www.exchangerates.org.uk/commodities/OIL-SGD-history…

The $au has slipped against the $US, so the wholesale price will continue to increase over the next week or so. Aust Day long weekend and end of school hols will likely make pump prices jump to the top of the cycle a week or two earlier.

With the NSW election 23 Mar and Federal in May, I reckon they'll have long cycles declining leading into them (since they don't want some sort of regulatory intervention). But that's just baseless speculation on my part. I'll be locking in tues/wed as I think it jump up by next weekend and still be in the mid-high 30s by the end of school hols.

      • Bugger! And now we cant lockin… :(

Thanks. Anyone elae having issues locking in? (Android app, just spinning trying to find the best local price, then times out).

store finder works (the map doesn't, but if gives me the location).
I force stopped the app, cleared storage.
going back in (without signing in) it does the same.

maybe an issue with their servers?

      • same here too :-(

      • +1

Yep, same here… android app just spins, wont lockin a store, regardless of location…

        • hmm r u using patched 7 eleven app or from play store?

          • +1

            @georgev: Patched

          • @georgev: The play store works and is v1.7
patched is v1.6 so I'm guessing that's the issue.

            • @[Deactivated]: i tried play store 1.7 I got this warning "we have detected mock locations is enabled and if I try again account maybe suspended "

              • +1

@georgev: yeah don't try it again until you disable mock locations (it's in Settings -> <depending on android version> -> developer options google it for your version) or you will get your a/c disabled.

                • @[Deactivated]: so ur mock location works and able to lock in? which app u using for mock location? currently am using 'fake GPS'

                  • @georgev: no sorry I meant the play store app allows you to lock in the local, (non-fake GPS) price. where as the modded app doesn't work (times out trying to find best local price).

So at the moment, I can only lock in my best actual local price using the app store v1.7 app.

                    • @[Deactivated]: ok all good. we wait for a solution

                    • @[Deactivated]: Try GPS joystick app. Able to mock location and lock in. 😁

                      • @georgev: Bummer, I tried but alas not for me. but it doesn't work even when i disable mock locations.

what version of Android do you have?
I've got v9 which now has the issue.

interestingly I just tried on v6 and it works (with/without fakeGPS).

So I wonder if Google has done something location services

                        • @[Deactivated]: Am using an old phone version 6.0 just for lock-in fuel. Masters just uploaded patched version. It works with fake gps

U r wrong. Only one lock allowed. I waited 24hr now I can lock

I didn't neg you, but you are wrong.

It is one active lock on each account allowed at any given time.

The Fuel Lock Voucher creation has 2 locks per 24 hours per device.
I.e. if you have one account, you could lock>fill up car 1, lock>fill up car 2.
Any attempts to further lock on that account on the same phone will not work.

It is 2 locks per 24 hours per device ID.
              I have personally tested this.
If you don't believe me, you can do your own test, if the lock isn't working, even if you make new account on the same phone, it will not work.
However, if you sign into a different phone, it will.

Or maybe for some reason they don't want to put 98 in their car? I agree its a stretch but I just thought I'd ask before I $2 it…

    • I wont mind one mate. Considering I am still learning from this thread on how to make this work. Thanks

      • +1

No worries, just sent you a PM.

        • Thanks mate. Received and would be respectfully used tonight :)

          • @varunynr: If you've got an android toy, PM me with and I'll give you instructions. Helpful if you know your android version.

Have 2x U98 40L @ $1.115. PM me if you can use them within the next 24 hours, although they expire later.

My car got rear-ended (for which I had locked in the U98) so now I'm using a rental car which takes E10, and need to use up the vouchers so I can lock in E10 this time.

    Both taken, thanks :)

  • If you share a lock in voucher can that person use your credit from the account?

    • No they can not, it's a seperate barcode.

    • If you share the voucher via screenshot they can't.

  • +3

Seems that ULP is on the rise.

7/11 Hampton (VIC) and WOW Clarinda (VIC) are both $1.399 for U91.

Might pay to start locking in.

    • Not sure about other states but generally WAs most expensive day is Tuesday.

      • Other states are on a four or five week cycle.

Running the Fuel Lock web portal here - http://dev.ethergroup.com.au:5000/ (Non HTTPS) - Don't use it if it matters to you as i don't have the time to mess with web servers and set up let's encrypt.

    • Hey @catalystic

Thanks for taking the time tweaking the old into the new. Much appreciated.

      Some feedback…

      • I logged in no issue.
      • I tried to lock in U98 and got googlemaps.exceptions.ApiError screen.

Thanks again for your awesome work,

      • Thank you - I'll fix in a moment, Google keeps revoking my API for some reason.

        • Sorry just saw your reply

          • @sharka: Should be good to go now, just generated a new API.

            • @Schema: Thanks Catalystic
              Strange message now…

              Oops, error:
The fuel price is too high compared to the cheapest available. The cheapest we found was at 3095. Try locking in there!

              • @sharka: What happens if you manually enter the postcode?
It's possible it's cheaper elsewhere and masters script hasn't updated? i'm not sure - i haven't gotten that error before.

                • @Schema: I'm getting the same error. I tried manual for U98 and it doesn't work.

                  • @pieman08: Looks like they were changing the price. I unfortunately took 125.6c

      • -7

        @Catalystic - I'm experiencing the same as @Dud.

Sorry, I'm not perfect at coding, still learning.

    • +4

I've got it running on port 80 now, so no need for port after it

I'll implement SSL over the weekend probably, decided to dockerize it and will read over the logs when people have issues.
As it's freighters script, i don't know the complete ins and outs of it, but just learning.

      • @catalystic - thanks for all your help :)

      • +1

Down at the moment, implementing some changes.

        • +3

Why are people negging @Catalystic for?

S/he is busting their nut to help you.

          • +1

@COVID-19: Not sure who is, but really appreciate all of @Catalystic's work

            • +2

@sharka: Disclaimer: I did not neg anyone in this comment.

I just want to say these private 3-rd party websites can get your general email with password. Once the owner of these websites get these, s/he can try login other websites with your credentials, not only your 7-11 account. Thus, people' online accounts are hacked. I think that's why some people negged it.

I won't use any of these websites even it seems convenient to lock a price.

              • @Neoika: Each to their own i guess, It's freighters script which is open-sourced so you can see what it is doing.

      • I'm tryng to run up the script but getting this error.

File "7Eleven-Python-master/app.py", line 125, in lockedPrices
        'X-DeviceID':deviceID,
NameError: global name 'deviceID' is not defined

        Any ideas why?
Maybe because I already have a price locked?

        • I'm not sure - I made some edits to his script so mines slightly different to Freighters, but the main portion is from his.

      • @Catalystic
        Implement SSL:

        1. pip install pyopenssl
        2. Update app.py line 486 to
          >app.run(debug=True,host='0.0.0.0',ssl_context='adhoc')
        3. Run the app
        • Can't use PyOpenSSL with docker, i'm looking into alternatives at the moment.

          • @Schema: Check my previous comment and use reverse proxy. That way you can have ssl on multiple webapps with just one certificate.

      • You are a legend mate. Keep up the good work.

    • Hey Catalystic,

      Is this github'd?

      Can I grab the source?

      • It's Freighters script - he's made a comment about it, on mobile at the moment so can't source it for you sorry!

        • thanks mate! found it

    • Claimed

  • To those couple of people that are running my script, try pulling the latest changes. It should fix your problems with the DeviceID being a bugger. Also I updated the AppVersion to the latest (1.7.0.2009).

On a side note, you can change the part where it says "DeviceName":"HTC6525LVW" in the login function to a different device name if you want. I.e. if you have a Galaxy S9 the DeviceName would probably be "Samsung SM-G960U" or similar to that.

    Decision process: U91 U95 or U98

Woolies Melb (north melbourne) has U91 at 109.9.
    IE: less 4c & less 5%via e-gift cards
U91 can be obtained at approx 100.6/L.

*U95 now at 108.9 (Hampton Park)?
*U98 at 111.5 from old Eltham lock?

I decided on U98… How not very OzB of me…

    OzB decisions/ problems

    • Lol

    • We don't shop at Woolies so if I wanted that 4c off I'd have to go dumpster diving.. To save $2…

      • You must live in a really clean suburb, my local Woolies has receipts lying around everywhere.

    • My personal preference is to use MIN U95, based on discussions with my mechanic and reading articles about performance, purity of fuels and comparisons of RON vs economy. If the net price of U98 is within 3-4c/L, I'll use U98 but generally my opinion is there's no financial benefit above this price differential.
      Just one man's opinion.

      • 91 also has a lot of sulphur.

  • +1

Just saved $25 on the fortnightly fillup. Cheers!

    • -5

      Nice!
      - NAME OF 7/11 STORE?
      - PETROL TYPE?
      - PETROL PRICE?

      • +2

How is that relevant? I used the 98 111.5 lock at a store near me. I 'saved' $25. Though it isn't a 'true saving' as we would have gone to a BP near us instead and paid $1.35/L, so we actually saved $12 in real terms which is still a great saving.

  • Is anyone having issues installing with the patched version 1.7? I uninstalled my previous 1.6 patched version and I keep getting a error 'app not installed' I previously modified the 1.6 patched version with all editor to install in SD card instead of internal drive which worked but now when I modify the patched 1.7 it doesn't attempt to install in sd card only internal memory :/

  • I'm new to this locking business. Is there a way to unlock a price so you can lock a lower price?
i did some searching and looked at the FAQ but can't find out…… which leads me to believe I can't.

    • +2

      you believe correctly
if you're that desperate to get a different lock in then fill up with a small amount, give it away or have a second account

      • thought so. thanks.
        Not desperate so i'll wait.

  • +6

I think maybe OP can add another FAQ like section on the top of this thread. How many times do the same questions keep coming up? Although I get 58 pages in can get long…

Yes I've made the same n00b mistakes but reoccurring ones seems to be 1)Unlocking 2)Issues with locking (mock locations) 3)Expiry account/gift card issues

    Just a thought.

    • +1

click on comments and its only 6 pages ;)

    • +1

Sounds like we gotta spoon feed those who can't simply do a Ctrl + F on their question.

      • -2

I didn't realize there was a comments link (Thanks SBOB).
        I wasn't going to Ctrl F 58 pages.

    • +1

We've seen people ask the same questions even if it were answered on the same page. Besides, it should not be very difficult to search for the answer if the same question has been answered several times.

      • -4

Got it. Don't ask another question again unless I want shame and negativity directed at me. Thanks again.

        • -1

My statement was very broad, and this thread is a very long one with hundreds of participants. I don't even know you, and have no idea what you may or may not have asked, and this is the first message of yours that I'm reading. But you appear to be accusing me of something already, and I'm not sure what it is.

Dude at counter was like 'omg bro I've never seen this price in my life you should have brought Jerry cans bro' - as I only filled up quarter tank

  • Looks to be really late to the party, wondering if they will stop the hack soon (I hope not)

Updates to fix all (most) errors when locking in have on the web portal have been implemented (thanks freighter)

SSL Will be inmplemented hopefully sometime this week.

    • Have you been getting any errors? Or has anyone mentioned any errors that've popped up?

      • I haven't been able to see any in any logs of people locking in.

        • just locked in. No issues.

    • Just to confirm that the script works fine for me.

The only minor issue I can see is that the expiry time for the lock seems to out of order

ie. in my case, it shall expire on 10.56 am 21/1/19

but your site shows 23.56 (11.56 pm) 20/1/19

thanks for you work, it's now so easy to lock everywhere.

      • Probably going off system time. I'll update it on my VM

      • I think it’s GMT time

    • Hi
When I try to log in using the link, it says "An unknown error occurred. Please try again later". Are you updating something in the backend ot it is just me?
      Thanks for all your work.

      edit:

Please ignore me. I was entering password wrong.

    • Can’t thank you enough, after latest app update wasn’t able to run it, it somehow detected my root, which was working fine for ages. Came here to see if there is any fix, tried your link and it worked fine.

    • Yeah fill in 2ltrs and it will disappear

        And scan the barcode

  • -1

Bit of a Noob questions, but if i have locked in 80 litres at a discounted price and my ute only takes 65 litres, will i lose the other 15?

    • yes. One time use barcode.

      • Will they still charge me for the full 80 litres?

        • +1

You only get charged for what you fill up.
If you locked in 80L and fill up 20L, you pay 20L worth and then your credit on the app gets unlocked for using another time.
If you lock in 80L and fill up 90L, you pay 80L at the locked in price and 10L at the pump price.

          • @unco: Ok awesome. Thanks Unco

    • +2

      Yes. Take your jerry can.

    • no. It will remain on your account but, you lose the lock for the remainder.

      • So if i locked in 80L ($87.20) @ $1.09 and only use 65L ($70.85) will that approx $17 still be on my account?

        • yes, you dont lose money. It stays on your account for next time.

You will just lose the fuel lock price as this is a single use.

          • @COVID-19: Thanks Dud.
Knew it was a Noob question but thanks for clearing it up

        • You also don't have to use the app credit to pay. You can use any payment method you like.

          • @sween64: But to lock in the price, it asked me to top up on the app?

            • +1

@sharka: You need money on your 7/11 account. This is listed in the stickied post at the top of the page under Further info/tips.

hmmm latest 711 APP update has broken nox? 1.7.0?

The new "Commodore" (Insignia) is basically a Mondeo competitor (both mid to large size front wheel drive, 4 cylinder hatchbacks) and you don't see Ford trying to hoodwink the public by calling the Mondeo the new Falcon.

              • @billy_bob: haha……when i got it, my friends also took the piss…..

Surprisingly, its not a bad car at all. I got the 6 cylinder AWD sports wagon. Love those matrix LED headlights.

I do however agree with your comments. Maybe the 4 cylinder should have been called something else….

                Have a good one.

        • My wife and I take 2 cars through. I stand at the bowser (nozzle in hand) and she moves one car forward after filling and then brings the other one forward.

      But I can't find it, saying 120.9

    • Same case here, still doesn't seem to come up :/

      • The app can take a little time to update some times. But not sure maybe the price has gone back up any one close that can check?

    • Has anyone successfully locked out in?

      • I was able to lock it in around 5pm

    • waiting for u98 same price :-)

  • Anyone able to lock in a price? When I hit the "lock in this price button", it just seems to kick me back to the "find my best local price" screen".

    • Likely to be at you reached your 2 locks per 24 hours limit. If you're using Nox you can download another emulator version (has a different Android ID) to lock in a price again.

I have been a long time user of the app (and use a combination of Petrolspy and Motormouth) and have found that the Geelong area will generally (if not always) be the last to put their price up. Amazingly, there are still a few good deals to be had!

2 stores there still have the price low. NEWCOMB and SOUTH GEELONG. They both offer 95 and GEELONG SOUTH is coming in at 0.3c cheaper of the two at 110.6.
I suspect they will go up extremely soon, so top up your tanks (to release your old voucher) if it is reasonable and re-lock in.

    Happy locking in! :)

    • Thanks for heads up

    • Haberfield NSW is cheaper

      • I think shezza84 was talking about U95, and it would've been cheaper at 110.6 c/L (however, it doesn't seem to be at that price right now).

    • Just had a check in that area cheapest for 95 is 147.9

      • I think shezza84 is not talking about 7-eleven prices, just fuel prices in general, including other brands like Liberty, United, Metro etc.

  • +1

I could have been a tad clearer. I was making clear that they do offer 95, for those needing to use it. Being… as there are less and less low priced stations at the final days of the trough, the chances of finding a station with 95 get slimmer and slimmer. The actual pricing I was referring to was their Unleaded price. Hope that clears things up.

And yes, prices went up quite quickly after I posted. As much as they are last, they don't linger with their low price. Just my last lock in area usually. I prefer to stay in the state just in case :)

  • Anyone having trouble with the fake GPS app not able to search suburbs or post codes?
    Says error request Denied

It works when manually searching and moving to the map location though

    • I asked before and apparently something to do with app company has to pay to use that function and not paid. I do it manually too.

      • Cool thanks.

Know a fake GPS app that could search? I've looked around google, might just do some trial and error. Saves opening google maps to try and find the area to match them up

      • Here's the full error message: access to Google Maps Platform is deprecated. Please use an API key with all your API calls to avoid service interruption. For further details please refer to http://g.co/dev/maps-no-account

So the reason is because they aren't sending along their API key with the search request.

  • 2) You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc.

Does this means I'll forever have the credit amount on the app so I don't have to top up again? Is there a way to lock in an amount more than credit you have on your account?

    • +1

      Yes. No.

      • Beautifully succinct as always ;-)

        • Thanks

      • Is it definitely the case that credit on the app remains forever if you don't use it? Does it not expire after four years of non-use or something similar?

        • Three years of non-use

          • @sween64: But locking in counts as use, even if you're paying cc in-store?

            • +2

@danyool: No, expiry resets only when you use it.
You can ask to pay 1c with the credit to update the expiry.

              • @sintro: Hmm. Ok thanks. Do they give an expiry warning?

Can't be sure when I started, maybe coming up 2 years, so might be time to use my balance to pay and top up again.

              • +1

Is anybody having problems with the online lock tool at http://fuel.ethergroup.com.au/ ? Had trouble locking in a price yesterday.

    Log is here for @Catalystic : https://pastebin.com/EAK9VLrc

    • What fuel type are you trying to lock in? Perhaps an error occurred and it didn't pick it up since it only error checks for a specific one (['ErrorType'] == 0).

Are you still getting the error?

      • Not sure - locked it in with mock locations instead. I'll give it another go when I fill up next and see if the error persists.

      • OK, tried it last night and it works. Not sure what happened on Saturday to cause the error?

Funny thing though, I had to log in and out for it to show my lock in the app.

  • Do you guys lock cheapest price using Nox or go by state?

There are various solutions I've seen here to virtually visit 7-Eleven servos around Australia but one hasn't been addressed yet - non-jailbroken iPhone users.
I can understand that installing/running Python scripts can be put in the too-hard basket for many. Same goes with setting up an Android emulator.
Also you may be weary of putting your login details into someone else's website.
Now all you need to do is trust a random OzBargainer's .exe (lol).

Change Location of Non Jailbroken iPhone / iPad (Releasing Personal App)

Works on Windows. Please ask questions you may have in that thread.

  • For those preferring to lock only within your state and are living in Victoria… Epping North (High St & Cooper) is at $120.7
A rudimentary search suggests they are definitely amongst the cheapest if not THE cheapest.

    • Are you referring to U95?

      • No that is U91. Costco just down the road is cheaper if you have membership.

    • I figure default is unleaded being the most commonly used fuel. I am speaking as this being a 7/11 lock in post. I live way too far from Costco to be worthwhile as I imagine many do.

  • "You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc."

Can someone please explain to me how to do this? If I try lock in an amount on the app, it says I need to top up to lock in?

    • +1

"You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel"
Check the bold word, you do need funds to lock in

      • Oh thanks… but then whats the point of having those funds on your card if youre not going to use them otherwise? Find it a bit confusing….

        • +2

I leave my account topped up and pay with my card so I don't have to keep topping up all the time :)

          • @shapers: Ah, so youre saying that once you have n amount there, you just leave it there, and then you dont need to top up each time. Silly me - now I get it :)

2 more questions, if you could kindly answer:
            a) Is the fuel lock limited to state? Meaning, If I live in VIC, I cant get a lock from NSW?
            b) Out of curiosity, how do people "sell" their lock ins? They just give the buyer their login details?

Thanks for your efficient replies :)

            • +1

@Uncle Roger: I've only used it once, but from my experience:
              a) It is nationwide, you can lock in a price in VIC and use it in NSW
              b) Once you've locked it in, you are presented with a barcode that you can screenshot and send to someone

        • I used my credit card to purchase a gift card in store and then topped up app with that.
Saves having cc details on a third party app.

Having the funds there all the time means able to lock in at anytime eg. straight away after filling up using a code. Or someone else can use in an emergency if need be.

I have heard (maybe read on the gift card??? was a while ago) that there has to be some "movement" on the card value within a two year period or it "expires", so every now an then I do use the funds and then buy another gift card to top up the app with. Maybe this has change to three years with the new rules on gift card expiries.

Have used VIC and QLD codes in NSW previously - no issues.

  • Also, If I dont use the locked prices, and the 7 days are up, do I lose any money? Or is it just the locked in rate?

    • +2

You just lose your voucher. Credit will still be in your account.

    • you don't lose money. the voucher disappears and you can lock in a new price

  • Hello, noob question.

With the money loaded onto one's 7/11 fuel app (via 7/11 gift card purchased in store), how long does this credit last for i.e. does it have an expiry like 2 years from first top-up?

Reason I ask is because I put money onto my 7/11 fuel app a while back and keep it there (pay with my credit card in store after filling fuel/redeeming voucher) to save the hassle of continuous top-ups.

    Thanks!

    • Good question.i would like to know too

    • -1

Money loaded onto your account will be there forever.

      • Not sure why you were negged but this is correct.

    • +1

Three year expiry. It gets reset to three years each time the balance changes.

    • +6

Although, I emailed them this morning and asked and this was there answer:

      "Hi XXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting 7-Eleven Customer Service.

I would like to advise you that credit does not expire until used.

For any further queries please feel free to contact us on 1800 XXX XXX"
