Further Info/Tips

There are two "tricks" that can be extremely beneficial as there is a common trend experienced by 7-Eleven App users: 1) If you receive an error processing your credit/debit card, you can purchase a 7-Eleven Gift Card in-store and apply the credits instantly onto the App. 2) You do not need to use the funds on your App to pay for the fuel, you can lock-in the price and pay via Cash or Card at the checkout saving the hassle of constantly topping up, gift cards, etc.

U98 114.7 Palm Beach North, Palm Beach, QLD

    • Thanks mate, tried it and it works wonders. =]

    • Damn locked in the 114.5 u95

      • Just filled up 2 litres while I was out to lock this price in (had the 118 from Glen Waverley)…was sweating on it not expiring before I got home to lock new price in.

        • Is it really worth saving $2? Cost more in petrol and car parts wear doing that lol

    • Love ya mate, thanks for the Christmas present.

    • Wow. And that's a servo I can actually justify being near. Merry Christmas!!

    • Locked it in !

I always get sus about these really low priced fuel deals like they're trying to catch people who mock locations.

      • +9

This servo is my local and i had a chat with the guy after i filled up. He told me its been so busy in Palmy lately that they simply ran out of U91 and U98 is all they have left, so they dropped the price to match the U91 price. He said he still gets people complaining that their "car doesnt need U98"! :-)

  • Is there any way to set up an alert whenever the fuel price goes below a certain price point?

  • is 98 really beneficial for the car or just a myth?
if i still have most of the fuel in tank as 91 or e10, then put bit of 98 to top it up, will it have negative effects?

    • +1

No negative effects afaik, apart from to your wallet costing 20c more (although probably get a bit better fuel economy)…but when you its within a couple of cents of U91 prices, I always opt for U98 (get weird looks from the attendant when filling up U98 for my Mitsubishi Colt lol).

    • From previous research information 98 fuel burns longer than 91. Depending on the price you can get more bang for your buck with the 98. Also on a side note it's better for your engine so in reality it is better to fill up with 98 than 91 in regards to km/L as well as keeping your engine from clunking out sooner

      • +1

Can you provide me with the research on where it says that it's better for your engine and in what way

        • +1

Its more about Research Octane Number (RON) which are the numbers for different petrol types: 91, 95 & 98. Mostly relevant for car engines that really need 95 or 98. A quick google found these which explain it fairly well:
          https://www.mynrma.com.au/membership/my-nrma-app/fuel-resour…
          https://www.canstarblue.com.au/vehicles/which-petrol-should-…
          Have a read…

          • @Sola: It's in the chemistry.
Branched octane (octane isomers) have higher compressibility without ignition(resistance to nock) than straight-chain octane.
RON 98 have more branched isomers than RON 91, hence RON 98 would support higher compression ratios in engines.

A knock is an unintended localised ignition of fuel and air mixture inside the chamber during the compression stroke. If this is to happen before the piston reaches its ideal position(before the spark plug ignites) that can cause damage to engine internals.

To put it simply, say 1 mitre long stick can be broken with 1 pound of pressure, but if there were four 25cm long sticks bundled together, it would require more force to break that bundle. (ie 91 octane is 1 mitre stick, 98 is four 25cm bundle).

When they burn, 98 would burn slowly compared to 91, but it will have the same energy, just like the sticks analogy.

      • Use the cheapest fuel that doesn’t ping or knock

        https://youtu.be/WYlk9C1o0nk

      • my car manual specifically mentions that the recommended fuel type is 91. i am wondering if filling up 98 will be beneficial or worth it

        • +1

If your car is not manufactured to run on RON 98 then the benefits will be minimal. Extra additives in RON 98 to clean the carbon and sulfur deposit build-up may help though.

    • (personal opinion only)I find a big difference when filling up petrol from old service station and newly renovated station. Car runs more smoother when I fill up from new station!! Did anyone notice difference

      • This is a well-known fact. Ask people who've done around the country trip, they will tell you how bad the fuel quality in north WA.
Fuel quality monitoring is good in Australia (although the standards are not as good in Europe), but the storage conditions and maintenance of underground tanks are the biggest factors contributing to poor fuel quality in Australia.

Anyone got use for my U91 $116.9 voucher so I can clear it? PM me if so.

    • +7

So you can lock it in at a cheaper price? What a generous offer.

      • -4

Well if someone isn't located near fuel cheaper than $116.9 it'll help them? r/Choosingbeggars at it's best.

I think everyone following this thread is at Palm Beach North at the moment.

    • Post in classifieds as a freebie.
You won't be able to get it cleared here.
