The 3TB Seagate Portable Hard Drive has been placed on clearance and this is a killer price for the 3TB, was $115 originally on sale but they've decided to clear it off. Listed below are the stores that have stock when I have researched them on the website, call around or search your local store if I have missed it :)

Just as a disclaimer, I would recommend calling the store you wish to purchase it from first because the system integrity might be out, many of the NSW stores have limited stock so be careful.

Edit: For anyone who was wondering if this can be price matched, I have only found one store in Aus that sells this drive and they offer a price match policy. You could try your luck by filling out this form at Megabuy.com.au and they might possibly honour it.

    Cant' find any in VIC

    • +4

None in any Sydney stores either.

  • +10

There's about as many left in Australia as there are TBs of capacity on these drives.

As soon as I see clearance price from officeworks I know its basically a lottery, and I never win!

  • +1

Carlton (NSW) don't have any. I called a few weeks back and their computer says yes, but they can't actually find the stock.

    • +1

Thanks, I removed it from the post.

  • +1

    Bugger I paid $115 :(

    • +2

So did I but at least we got one. Finding one is apparently hard at this lower price.

  • Rang one store, they can't do charge over the phone, hopefully will still have stock tomorrow.

  • Jesus 3TB portable for under $100?

  • +11

Product unavailable. A bit like my data with a few of my Seagate drives.

  • It's a shame that Officeworks are deleting this item from their inventory. Been using this drive in my low power torrent server for a while now and it's still going strong.

  • +2

maybe add "hdd" to the tags ?

so is this the seagate drive that has a high failure rate ?

  • Damn it. I bought the 2TB deal for $99 from officeworks last week :'(

    • +1

The 2TB Toshiba one right? Same here… :(

But then again, I fill up alot of these portable HDD quickly so I might as well pick up this one as well for the future (that is, if I can find any available)…

  • Any chance on this working with ps4?

    • +13

To use a quote none of us will ever hear in our lives… it's too big, it won't fit.

      • Haha dang ! So that's why people go for the 1tb / 2tb drives :(

I was just reading on reddit some guy said yes but you must shave down the drive as it's 1.2mm to thick sounds rather dangerous process ;)

        • +3

I hear if you put it in the microwave for 5 minutes, it shrinks by 1.2mm

        • +2

@suburbanmale: I hear if you encase it in some stylish budgie smugglers and then put into a cold pool for 5minutes, it will shrink an entire couple of inches.

        • @dfaktz:

          George Costanza agrees with this.

According to Amazon, the 2TB and 3TB drive have the same width and thickness. However, the length of the 3TB drive is actually shorter by 0.2 inch which could be attributed to a shorter SATA to USB connector. But the risk is that this could be a design overhaul whereby the USB connection is soldered as part of the chipboard. So best not to get this as so far it is only proven that Expansion Portable 1 and 2TBs are PS4 upgrade compatible. I upgraded my PS4 using the 2TB version of this drive. It comes with an ST2000LM007 drive which has 128mb cache. It feels slightly faster than the stock HGST drive.

    • The new patch notes for PS4 accept external drives. So you would be in luck when that drops

Update for Vic no stock in any store.

      Thanks, I updated.

    None at Mackay store.

  • would Coles PP work for ran out of stock item?

Just called the Marion SA store and heading in to buy one now. They recon they've got almost 20 left.

    • damn, they said 40 at 11am….

    • Would be interested in knowing how many were there for you.

I was told 44 at 11:13am and there were 4 left at 12:17pm.

      • i guess by the time i get there… all gone :(

        • Ask at the checkout because they've taken them off the shelves. And half the problem with stock may be that i saw staff buying them also while i was there. Don't know total left but only a couple in one cabinet, the other cabinet had more because that's where another checkout grabbed one while i was walking out.

  • anyone used this for xbox one?

    how did/does it perform?

    • Mine sucked big time. But, it worked flawlessly for many others. I returned it and got a 2TB WD Elements.

      • ouch. at least it was resolved one way….

just spoke with a rep from castle hill, no stock, no stock locally and could not see any in warehouses or NSW in general.

  • Just called Windsor QLD, no stock

I don't think there is any left at Marion, when the site tells me that they are available at Marion, but when I set Marion as my store it then says they are not available there.

Edit: Just rang Marion they are all out of stock, so none left in SA.

    • awww… thanks for letting us know though. saves me a trip :)

  • Thanks OP.
Had um'd and ah'd over the 3TB @ $115 and finally decided not to go ahead.
This time though… Called West Gosford store and they said "Yup, 4 left here"
I asked them to put one aside and went to pick it up.

When I got there the girl at desk pulled one out from behind countered and checked name - not mine but that had one for me too.

So, as at ~1:50pm they may have had two left.
I would call and ask though as it is a very good price.

    • West Gosford is a pain in the ass for holding things. They ran out of Lenovo tabs and custom ordered one for me. They "forgot" to call me when it arrived (lucky I checked) and went to the store the same day (Was sent from head office and I spend a shitload at officeworks and whinged to get my way). Anyways, she sold it. Pretty much the same thing happened the 2nd time, just it was the wrong item. Haha.

Never know if i should laugh or cry in W.Gos store :)

  • Orange NSW has 11 in stock and they said they haven't sold any of them in months.

  • Use for photos or document backup. Drive has some performance issues with this model so not great for videos / games etc.

    • Drive Owner
    • I have the same model, brought it over a year ago. No issues with videos and large statisical data files I transferred to and fro. I did wipe the drive when I brought it. Didn't like the software on them

    • I purchased 4 under the previous deal for $115 deal at officeworks and have been plagued with issues. Searching on the Web there are a lot of people having issues with this drive. Only the 3TB models seem to be affects the 2TB and 4TB models don't seem to have performance issues from my research. Suspect Seagate and clearing them all out. Again if you are just storing files you should be ok but do not use for a media centre PLEX etc.

    • That is such good advice that if you think your drive is unreliable use it for backup!

      • The drive has performance issues not reliability ones although all external drives have relatively high failure rates.

In either even backup should be secondary copy of the data. If you move your files there that is now primary storage not a backup.

  • bought one last year, unfortunately its started reporting errors lately, bad sectors etc, just got a dud i suppose

    great price none the less.

Seagate 3Tb are a waste of money even at $10. You will lose data… these drives are bad. Avoid like the plague.
If you want a 3Tb drive, get the Toshiba or HGST. Otherwise go for other capacities.
(lost a whole heap of data to 3 x Seagate 3Tbs dying on me, Backblaze stopped using the Seagate 3Tbs due to 30%+ failure).

    • +2

I dont know why you guys keep comparing this portable drive to the 3.5" Desktop HDD version which Backblaze tested. This one is the 2.5" either Samsung Spinpoint or Seagate Momentus (one version before the Barracuda). Totally different products, albeit still potentially dodgy drives.

    • +1

Can you please provide some proof of this particular drive model being dodgy?

  • Nowra is now officially out as the customer service said I just got the last one.
Picked one up previously at $115 and have had no problems.

    • Thanks, updated.

  • Of all the stores listed in the description, only Bundaberg and Gladstone are still showing as having stock left.

  • OOS now online. tb
None in Newcastle, Kotara or Warner's Bay in Newcastle, NSW. WB has 2tb at $119 & 4tb at $229.
