Sony Bravia 75 Inch X85D $3,199.99 @Costco Ringwood Victoria (Membership Required)

730

Just saw this at Costco Ringwood, not sure if it is also available at other Costco stores. I can see about 5 on the shelf.

Not happy as I thought I had a good bargain last week when I purchased it from JB @$3,999

Planning to buy a 75" soon (expecting bonus). Hope these deals keep coming ☺

    • What if you don't get the bonus? Lol

      • +1

Well then no tv upgrade 😔

  • +1

OP I'm just jealous you've got a big enough lounge room to fit such a large tv in.

    • +23

I bought 4 and built a lounge room for $13,000

    • +2

How small is your lounge room? Mine's 5m wide and a 65 inch looks normal in it. I was actually pretty upset I didn't splash for the 75 inch when I got it home.

Keep in mind 4K TVs are designed so you can sit closer to them, if that's the issue.

      • +5

Sitting closer is a design feature of all TVs at least since they've been invented.

      • You should only be close enough to see the edges of the TV without turning your head

      • +1

My lounge is 4x4 and I've currently got a 46" Sony Bravia from 2009 that I'm keen to replace but can bring myself to buy a new one when the current one is meeting my needs. Hopefully the kids will throw something at it and break the screen :-P

        • +4

What you need is a wii remote, wii tennis and a dodgy wii remote strap and let your TV become obsolete naturally

        • +1

@ialam99: lol I actually have all of that, except for the dodgy strap. Hmmm now you're giving me ideas.

        • Have the same model, just turn the garage into rumpus and stick it out there,
along with your your old lounge and rug
It will still be going when they come home from uni

    • My lounge joins with the dining room so this is too small. Got the Yamaha 2700 and I can't bounce the surround off my back wall. I was hoping to get the 85 inch but it's not affordable yet

  • -6

Imagine what you could have done with that extra $2000 OP 😂

    • +7

Do you math. He actually lost $799.01
      Which could have got him-
-A top of the line phone(Android/Apple).
      -A new shitty car.
-A ~50" UHD Hisense tv for his toilet.
      -160 meals for charity.

In all seriousness @0p talk to jb hifi see what they can do…

      • +2

or check out your credt card's policy. You might have price protection

    • I think he's too busy watching TV for that!

  • +4

OP try to take a picture of the price into your JB hifi and show it to the manager there. See if he is happy to refund the difference.

A lot of retailers offer you a price guarantee for a couple of weeks after you buy from them.

    • this trick may work if OP purchased from TGG or HN, don't expect price match with Costco

      • +1

Can he buy from costco and return the unopened box to JB using JB receipt?

        • and what have you achieved using this? if you buy from costco you have already paid membership

  • Will NSW Costco have the same deal?

    • +1

Can confirm same price @ Casula

      • I saw it today at auburn. Sweet tv but the cheapo big-w JVC from end of last year is good enough for me.

        • What are your thoughts on the JVC ? …. I was looking at it a couple of weeks ago.

        • @PKM: $328 4k, does the job i guess, not perfect but for the money cant complain either. Not as good as hisense and others but the price dictates that.

        • @BargainKen: Cheers

      • OP - can you please update the post so it states that it's available at other Costco warehouses too (Casula confirmed)

  • Cosco make tennis balls, not sell TV's !

  • It's Costco not cosco

    • +6

      It's Costco, not cosco.

      • +3

        It's fixed, not 🐑 stations

  • This or the Hisense 75 for $654 cheaper?

    • Is that Hisense any good?

      • It's won a few awards. They use Sharp panels plus 3 year warranty compared to 1 with Sony. However Costco warranty is great

        • +1

          Link to deal?

        • Sharp panels? "Sharp" lost their reputation in TV business when Koreans started selling them.

        • @ozdesi: You mean Japanese?

        • Y aren't there any sharp TV in aus.

        • @syl: Sharp pulled out of the tv market and sold the tv brand name to Hisense . Like many other known and loved brands all gone and bought by Chinese makers.
But also remember Sony will be desperate to try and get rid of 2016 models, like a lot of manufacturers as they bring in the 2017 range, so some bargains could be had.

        • -2

@ozdesi: Yeah, you have no idea who makes panels do you.

        • -1

@drwau: >Sharp pulled out of the tv market and sold the tv brand name to Hisense . Like many other known and loved brands all gone and bought by Chinese makers.

          Incorrect.

Sharp sold it's American arm Sharp Americas to Hisense which allows Hisense to use the Sharp brand only in North and South America.

Why are people always whining about this crap when it's China? Like it's not a problem when "known and loved brands" (lel) get sold to Japan or America or Australia.

    • +1

      Sony wins overall imo

      • i was also deciding between the hisense and this. As I was mounting it on the wall, I was worried how it would mount after looking at the back of the hisense in store. I remember the hisense was really heavy as well compare to the Sony.

The android os also mean one less thing I have to connect to the tv. It handles kodi and chromecast out of the box.

Overall I am really pleased with the tv.

  • +2

I saw that, but got distracted by the free Gelati..did 6 laps to taste all 6 flavours & forgot why I was there, but remembered after the Onion chips - cheap itunes cards!

  • +2

Dont feel bad op….i paid my x85c for 5k in end of 2015. By the way tv is going..these fat tv s' will be obsolete in the few years to come.

Thanks to the oled poster tv tech that is coming out…soon we can install a 100 inch tv by ourself as its like mounting a wallpaper.

Soon we will have tv posters installed in every thinkable marketing area which jcd decaux, apn outdoor and etc will be eyeing on.

On the bright sight i can have a whole custom wall Of the poster tv in a few years and put it running 4/8k videos of the ocean,jungle,beach…..

    Woohoo switzerland alps in winter.

  • +1

My Dad bought 5 of these for our treehouse

  • Hope you have price protection, Op. Yeowch

  • Can I take this TV overseas and claim TRS?

    • +1

      if you really want to
probably would negate the fact you'd pay a fortune on cargo than the refund you'd get back from TRS
      Not to mention looking stupid

      • +3

I think (or hope) he was not being serious.

    • I swear I saw a guy at Melbourne airport checking in on a Thai Airways with a SamSung 60" two weeks ago.

  • I paid $6500 for my 75x9400C and it's a brilliant unit.

The audio that came with it, hasn't been repeated in the 2016/17 series which is probably the visible difference here.

With the difference in price you could add a nice sound bar!

  • -1

Cool tv but if you know about tv's OLED is worth the wait

  • +3

OP sorry to hear you you bought it last week for a higher price. Thanks for sharing cheap price with us tho. You are a great Ozbargainer!

  • +1

Now that's nearing a good price. Still $200 above the best offered price, but still a very good price.
I bought this TV from Costco for $2999 a few months back.
Happy to answer queries for anyone who's planning to buy this TV.

    • Model?

      • I bought this TV from Costco for $2999

The exact same TV was cheaper late last year at Costco

      • X85D is X8500 series, it's the same TV.
        http://www.sony.com.au/electronics/televisions/x8500d-series

I bought this for $2999 @Black Friday Spl. from Costco
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/282799

        • -2

Every time this TV comes up you brag about the price you got it for, but you never posted the deal when it was $2,999. Poor form!!

        • @psdillon: No Sir, absolutely not. I have said in this comment that this TV is still $200 above best price this TV has been but still an excellent price. Everytime someone posted this as a deal for $3999 in last 2 months, I responded saying DOnt buy, this price will come down.
I believe rather I have saved money for that someone who should rather buy now.

Poor Form! Not really…. or Ozbargain rules saying "Not enough Stock" no bargain !!
when i reached there only 2 were in stock and they checked elsewhere and they said only 1 left in Melbourne, hence no Ozbargain deal

    • How do you get these home? Anyone fit one in a car / wagon / 4wd?

      • The C model fits flat in the back of a Territory. Imagine D has same size box. Costco staff were very helpful with lifting it into the back.

        • I thought all flat screen tvs need to be upright when transporting.

      • $60 delivery through Airtasker for a 60-90 mins delivery job

  • This is model 850, not 8500.

  • $42.67 per inch

    • That's cheap cosmetic surgery!…… Thailand?

  • +1

Any chance that one of the large retailers like JB or Harvey's will price match even though this price is only available to Costco members?

  • +2

Hey OP - I bought this exact TV last year at JB. It was listed RRP at 4999 and I got them down to 4500, I thought that was pretty good discount and was within my budget so I went for it.

A few weeks later the price was reduced to $3999 for one of their sales. I called them up and just explained what had happened and said look I don't know if you guys can do anything to help me out but I thought I should at least ask, the manager said for sure she would refund the difference. She said if I spend that much money with them she would look after me for sure. The only provision she let me know of was how long ago it was purchased. I said it was only a few weeks (maybe a month) she said no probs as long as it wasn't like 6 months ago that was fine.

All in all I was still happy top pay the $4500 but thought I had nothing to lose from calling up. Was little to no effort on my part and turned up roses.

I know in your situation you bought from another store, but you should definitely speak to JB see what they can do. Alternately, like others have said if you bought on credit card check out your price protection policy.

For anyone considering this tv - I can give it nothing but positive comment/reviews.

  • OP - check your credit card (assuming you paid by credit card) in case you have Best price guarantee - on mine with ANZ I would get $300 back in your situation…

    Best Price Guarantee Scheme
Best Price Guarantee Scheme is a benefit available to
participating cardholders when new personal goods are
purchased anywhere in Australia and the entire cost is
charged to the participating cardholder’s participating credit
    card account.
This scheme guarantees the participating cardholder gets the
best price if, within 21 days after the purchase of a personal
good, they advise us that they have subsequent to their
purchase, received a printed catalogue showing the same
personal good (same model number and same model year),
by the same manufacturer, for a lower price from a store
within 25 kilometres of the store from where the personal
good was purchased, and the price difference is greater than
    A$75.
The cheaper personal good must be:
    • the same model number; and
    • same model year; and
    • produced by the same manufacturer as the personal good
    you had previously purchased.
The catalogue showing the cheaper article must have been
printed after the date you purchased the personal good.
You must report (make a claim) the cheaper article to QBE
within 21 days of the purchase of the personal good. This is
because under this Best Price Guarantee Scheme QBE only
provides cover for cheaper articles reported within 21 days of
the date of purchase of the original personal good.
Provided the price difference is greater than A$75 you will be
refunded the price difference up to A$300.

    • Have you ever used that price protection feature ? It seems quite restrictive.. 21 day limit, must be $75+ drop, and only pays up to $300.

Some cards have 6 months to 24 months price protection, with a minimum drop of just $10, and pay up to $600 or $1000 per claim (up to $2,000 per year).
I have claimed back $1,200 (across about 20 claims, only 4 of which were over $100) so far.

      • No never had to use that feature yet. I have used the travel insurance feature though and it was fantastic.

Heaps of stock at Crossroads Costco

    • -1

Not anymore. My friend just picked up the last 3 with one for me :)

      • hi is that you broden ?

  • We bought this tv yesterday from JB for $3998. Went back today and asked If they could refund the difference but they wouldn't. We got a full refund instead and purchased the same TV from Costco at Docklands. There was lots of stock.

  • Went to north lake lake last nite to get one. There were less than 8 there when I got there but when I left, there were 4 left only plus the display.

There was a 65"9300d for $50 more which was a tv I was also looking at. End up with 75"8500d as I think I will regrets not getting a 75". I also tried to price match the $2999 price some ppl paid last year but failed. Regardless, $3199 was still a steal.

Warning on warranty, sales guy ric said warranty by Sony is 12 month but Costco will cover 2nd year due to aus consumer law. He said the lifetime warranty doesn't apply for tv and many has been told the wrong info.

    • Can you get someone else to pick it up if you don't have a large enough vehicle?

  • scored one from auburn costco !!! sad didnt get it when it was $3k but this is a hell of a price

    • how did you pick it up?! it's a beast

      • Prado!!

  • Do ppl keep the box for tv ??

  • Yes, if you ever have to move it again, it's going to be safer with the packaging.
Keeping possums from making it their home is the hard part.
    Just tape the box closed.
