I bought one of these (or very similar) for something like $69 when Dick Smith closed his doors. They're fantastic for the money and provide some serious noise and bass.

I paid something like $69 too for the Z523 model from Harvey Norman a few months ago. It's cool too. A real good bang for the buck.

      • I checked and it's the Z623 that I've got but I'm sure they're all very similar.

Insert "best bang for buck" comments here.

It literally is. If you're not into 5+1 speakers for your PC these have amazing sound

    • +1

They are great speakers for the price. I own them.

Note, however, that the tweeters on the satellites are fake, just a piece of plastic designed to look like there is a tweeter there.

I have these speakers for nearly 4 years. They are great for $100, I am aware that Swan speakers may offer tone, but since is much more expensive, Logitech justifies the deal. I saw Z625 coming out soon, so it might another option for many of you.

The problem with these speakers are that there might leaking in sound, but when you turn it loud you don't hear it that much.

Officeworks price match guarantee less 5% brings them to around $95 if purchased there.

Can confirm price at OW $94.05.

Now I will know how my bucks get banged by these speakers, or something.

      • Which OW store did you confirm?
I asked the one in QV Melbourne, they said they cannot match because both price are same, unless if HN price is higher than they can match

        • It was yesterday when price in store was 117, now it is same they won't match so best price is 99.

    • Can vouch. Just came back from OW with the speakers. $94.05
Playing great Doof doofs on TV now

      • Can you let me know which OW store did you buy it from?

        • Elsternwick office- they adjusted the price since yday to match it, so u probably cant do it anymore

    • I rang OW they cannot match the price if both price are equal $99, rang one of the stores as well in Melbourne and they said same thing.

  • I got this 3 days ago from Harvey for $117. Is there anything I can do?

      *Credit card price protection
      *Ask for difference direct

Tell them your Ozbargain member number and they'll give you a refund and apology.

If you've opened it then buy a new one and return it using your more expensive receipt.

Best value speakers for TV (if it has 3.5mm output).

    • +3

It does and it's multi input so also has RCA and Aux.

I have this on my Sony TV and it blows any soundbar, only issue is turning it off (I have it on a mains switch with a remote).

Also have a Bluetooth adapter in the Aux so I can stream music.

Bought it for $99, absolute bargain considering.

      • +2

Oh I meant if your TV has 3.5mm output!
I have these on my Sony TV too! So good.

        • +1

          Oh ok.

How do you turn them off, or do you just leave them on?

        • +1

          @Scab:
Leave them on. I've had my set for like 4 years and have had no issues leaving them on.
In fact, the weak point seems to be the power button from what Ive heard.

        • @theguyrules:

weak point seems to be the power button

Yeah, I actually bought these to replace a previous set of Logitechs (really old ones) that had issues with the power button.

I think dirt gets into the potentiometer or whatever the button is called.

        • @theguyrules:

But everytime you turn on and off the TV you hear a thumping noise. This can tbe good for the speakers. So I tend to turn them on once the TV is on and off before I turn off the TV.

        • @Circly:

Mine doesn't make any noise when the TV is turned on or off.

        • +1

@theguyrules: Amps use quite a bit of power when they're doing nothing, I do not recommend leaving them on unless you really have to.

        • +1

@Scab: That means your TV is always running a current through the audio output even in standby.

        • @Shwayne:

          No it's not.

        • @theguyrules: I also leave them on for the same reason.

        • @Circly: Mine also make no noise when turning off or on, only prob is the dodgy power button so I leave them switched on

        • @Circly:
          Nothing like that here.

        • @Shwayne:
I've been doing it for the past few years, I'm not too worried about the extra power.

        • +1

@Shwayne: Yep, these draw a few watts when idle. The woofer box on mine sits a few degrees above ambient when idle.

      • Yes, it did blow away the sound bar far away back to the retailer. My attempt to replace him with something shining miserably fail.

      • Out of curiosity your mains switch with a remote is it IR or RF? I've been searching for an IR power socket that'll work with my Universal remote so I can turn these bad boys off for awhile and keep coming up short

    • If you don't, you can use a toslink (optical) to RCA converter

    Patiently waits for speaker snobs:

"Logitech suck, get some bookshelf speakers"

"Better off using tin cans than these"

"My toilet sounds better than these"

"I'd rather be deaf than use Logitech"

    • +3

They're great speakers for $99, the Logitech is completely irrelevant.

      • +1

They're not just great speakers but great comments.

  • Got this speakers from the Officeworks eBay sale. Great sound and perfect to be used with TV.

  • Let the "these speakers are great comments" begin.

    • +5

These speakers are making me thirsty.

  • Doof doof

    • These doof doofs are great speakers.

  • +2

Logitech suck, get some bookshelf speakers

Better off using tin cans than these.

My toilet sounds better than these.

I'd rather be deaf than use Logitech.

    • Speaker snob.

  • is it possible to adjust volume through a universal remote?

    • I imagine whatever you have plugged into the speakers has a remote. Control volume that way.

    • If you plug this into your TV via the headphone jack then you can control the volume using the TV remote.

    • +2

is it possible to adjust volume through a universal remote?

      No.

If you're using it for a TV, use the headphone jack and the TV's remote will work.

    • The output will be relative to your TV volume if that's what you're trying to achieve, so yes?

  • Are we looking at $80 with next office works eBay deal

  • How does this compare with the MSY deal for soundblaster SBS-A250 2.1 Speakers?

    • Different price points, depends what you can afford. Logitech has 130 watts subwoofer vs 5 watts subwoofer on sound blaster. Similar diff in satellites. Creative don't even put the watts per channel info on their brochure page, which might tell you they aren't going for room-filling sound just sitting in front sound.

  • My tv remote control can not adjust the volume. I use 3.5mm jack. Not sure how can I solve this. I can control the volume from the remote on my old dicksmith tv but not the new JVC. Anyone know the solution?

    • Really just depends on the TV.
Try and check to see that your TV is set to output to 'headphones'.

  • I didn't think much of this speaker when I bought it, but don't want to take a loss to sell it. This has more bass than X-530s or X-540 5.1 speakers (older replaced by Z506) but the X-540 is louder overall and the mids and highs are much better (5 speakers vs 2, even if the 2 are nice). Just a major disappointment.

  • damn i paid $149 at OW for these back in March

does anyone know if there is a way to get the OW 5% discount online without having to ask in store, for that price thinking of second pair for other TV

    • Wondering the same thing…

    • I just rang OW. You have to go into a physical shop. I just bought one from HN online/free pickup instead. For five bucks I don't think it's worth the hassle and the deal may disappear anytime.

BTW I have FOUR of these systems. I run a broadcast production studio and I've put them on all our workstations for general listening.

  • +1

Have been running these speakers for 4 years without any problems - great sound and even bass for the price (i tend to turn the bass down to half). Even has a headphone jack on the side so great if hooking up-to a PC.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, bought one

  • Are these better than the z506 ?
