Two year Australian warranty provided by Amaysim themselves? Wow
    https://www.amaysim.com.au/dms/amaysim/documents/terms-condi…

  • +1

Great deal….I am wondering would it be worth to get it on Coles MC and then claim price protection every time Amaysim drop price…..
Since it is a new store not sure if Amaysim would keep stocking phones for next 2 years….So confused!!!

    • Zomg forgot I can do this too! Now I have the same delimma.

    • Would that work because they are technically australian?

      • I have heard people have claimed from Vaya on their Coles MC….

        • +2

This is exactly what I am planning to do.

The key point is to choose a seller that…

          • wouldn't go bankrupt in 2 years time, Amaysim will probably meet this criteria
          • tend to keep stocks of older phones, Amaysim also meet this as they still stock s5 and note 4! That's more than 2 years old. Certain sellers don't do this and by the time 2 years is up, and they don't stock it, that's a few hundred dollar lost.
          • not from ebay, even though I never had trouble claiming, it can create problems, so don't risk it
          • based in Australia..of course…

The 2 years seller warranty is a plus too.

        • @Temjin: I agree!!!

        • @Temjin: so with this Account Cover Plus from Coles MC, do you just pay off the balance before the statement comes out and you don't need to pay the 1%?

        • @yannyrjl: That's the way it works on 28 Degrees and I think both are backed by GE, they have the same backend for their online portal.

        • +2

          @yannyrjl:

No, here is the ozbargain's way.

          1) Get the no annual fee coles master credit card
          2) Activate the Account Cover Plus
          3) Only use it to buy goods that you want to claim back in the future, pay back the credit card immediately. Therefore, your account balance is always $0, therefore, 0% x $0 = $0 premium. :)

          Free money!

        • @Temjin: Good tips. Only problem is I use the $89 mastercard in normal use since the 1% return is best in the class if you can get the annual fee waive. Having to pay off before statement is kind of a pain.

        • @Temjin: thanks for the tip, that's what I was thinking myself as well, "better not risk it with timing and just pay back straight away"

    • Can you please elaborate how the price protection works with the Coles Mastercard?

      Thank you

      • From what I understand, you buy using your Coles MC and each time the price drops on seller's side you put a claim through for price drop. Maximum is $600 I think in 24 month period….And also the seller has to be Australian company….

    • Doesnt it suppose to be brick & Mortar stores only to claim back from coles MC?

      • Nope…Online works perfectly fine….
Brick and Mortar only for citibank….

    More importantly, Note 8 $1195 minus 10% for a $1075 Note 8

    • Thanks added to OP and title.

  • What is the difference between a direct import and the others?

    Edit: NVM figured it out

    • +2

Imports are cheaper, might have different specs (like dual SIM slots) and may take longer to arrive via post.

      • +1

        Thanks man!

  • I guess it's not eligible to claim GST under TRS?

    • How are you sure?

    • If it is shipped from overseas (which it seems these are), then no, because you did not pay GST to begin with.

    • Just had a chat and they told that GST is specified on the invoice so you can claim it.

      • Then they shouldn't be called direct imports. They should be classified as aust stock but shipped from overseas .Since they say it has GST included in invlice

      • +1

I had a chat with them as well, there is no GST listed on the Direct Import items.

    • So @hawkeye, did u recieve the invoice yet, and if u did is GST included?

      • +1

Sorry, I didn't buy it so I'm not sure. i chatted with 2 staffs but each of them gave me different answers (with/without GST).

  • Just a couple questions,
    1) Any reason not to get the Dual Sim over the Single Sim Variant?
    2) Even though they are direct imports, does this mean that it will be in English, like the packaging and setup? My friend bought a grey import and it had chinese branding and the setup language was in Chinese.

    • +2

Dual sim is epic for sim hopping/travelling. My phone s8 is from UAE, but it's all English. Samsung charger is Uk/Singapore style,,, mine came with an adapter. I wouldn't go back to single sim.

Second sim is great for gumtree adverts, chuck in a burner, dump it when sold, to avoid those delightful 2am texts, "is this still available bru?"

You can still use an micro sd card, or the second sim. If your handy, you can wedge both in, like I showed you with the puppets…

      • +1

I’m a huge fan of dual-SIM phones too, and this one looked promising until I saw the advertised spec for this particular model:

Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) (One 3G/4G SIM and One 2G SIM)

The fact that the second SIM is relegated to 2G only puts the whole dual-SIM functionality out of action here in Australia (like the Gumtree ad scenario — love it btw)

  • They have LG G6 plus for $715 (before discount). Their website says 4GB ram, whereas google shows 6GB ram for G6 plus.. thinking to pull the trigger…

    • It seems the Amaysim store admin is following this thread. The price is now $745. Still a good deal..

  • Meh. A true OzBargainer prefers to wait until 20% off eBay sales and then buy using PayPal for buyer protection. Australian Warranties suck in general.

    • So claiming price protection from Coles MC is not an "OZB thing" to do anymore? lol

      • Maybe it's a bit too much hassle

      • I think there is a higher chance of the price protection getting approved buying from Amaysim with AU tax invoice vs ebay seller. Coles MC newbie here but lots of conflicting info, I've read payment via paypal gateway is ok too since it's not a retailer but only a way to process the payment, but some didn't have such luck.

        • I am a Coles MC noob too….Haven't claimed anything as only have had it for 2 months….Desperately looking to get a good bargain on S8 and this looks good but not sure if price protection would work with Coles…

        • @kiwiinoz:
haha I'm looking to sell my S8 if I get the note 8 :P although I bought it from QD on ebay with Coles MC just in case.

        • @rexii2300: Have you claimed from QD before on Coles MC?

        • @kiwiinoz: I haven't claimed anything before actually. Sorry. I bought my S8 for $663 and it haven't gone cheaper yet.

Need a Coles MC veteran to chime in!

    • yup, picked one up last week ($702) using their 20% off phones thingy and it was fulfilled by amaysim Australia. free express delivery should arrive tomorrow.

      • you will get Australian Tax invoice from amaysim?

        • No, neither will you with these. Like kogan these are direct importers and will not pay GST.

        • @idontalwaysnotlie: So, in other words, no one would be able to claim price protection from Coles MC?

        • @kiwiinoz:
when I question Coles MC at the time of sign up, the only condition is that it must be purchased in Australia. ie the delivery has to be made to australia. There was no condition on AU invoice when I looked through the terms.

      • 20% off from Amaysim ebay? I couldn't find their ebay store….

        • vaya owned by amaysim, so must have been vaya_au

        • @ozblogger: Nah definitely not Vaya…been checking all Australian suppliers for last few weeks….

        • +2

          it was buymobileau

You sent a payment of $703.99 AUD to amaysim Operations Pty Ltd ([email protected])

          @idontalwaysnotlie:
So Amaysim just launched their own tech store today but had been running under another account already on ebay….Interesting!!!!

          amaysim Australia Limited, ABN: 65 143 613 478

          different entities

    • How do they suck? You're getting 2 years warranty straight from amaysim

      And hows PayPal protection better?

  • +1

Bought. Was holding off on grey import because of warranty issues but I'd like to think Amaysim are pretty trustworthy. $823.50 for an S8+ is a terrific price.

  • Wow great price, I hope the extra $187 I spent on a local S8+ was worth the money, I mainly wanted the easy warranty.

  • I'm looking at S7 edge initially. The price for S8 is tempting! Is S8 camera worth the price difference?

    • +1

S7 Edge and S8 camera don't have much difference I was told..

    • s8 is a good upgrade, but not for the camera. afaik the back camera is unchanged from the s7.

this isn't a great price though, s8 can be found at times for 650-700. at that price, it's great value over the s7

    • Thanks all!

Just one more question. Is the finger sensor position totally hopeless? I'm so used to using my xiaomi finger sensor that I sometimes forget my password!

      • Its really comfortable for me, just get the regular S8 don't get S8 plus. S8 is the perfect size phone, unless you really need that 15% extra battery. Fyi, my S8 battery is really great, always have enough juice to get me through the day.

  • +1

As it's a grey import, what happens if you need to repair the phone? Will you need to either send it overseas to Samsung or use a local third party repairer?

    • Also wondering this.

    • +1

      2 year warranty

Peace of mind with a free extended warranty locally serviced in Australia.

I'm guessing they do there own repairs cause I don't think Samsung touch overseas models.

    • You send the phone to amaysim.

  • A full $100 more than the going rate for S8 grey market phones

    • Do you think its worth the 2 year warranty they provide?

    • Where have they been selling for $100 less?

  • Are they a reliable seller?

  • I'm keen on the Pixel for $688… is that a good buy?

  • I just bought a god damn s8 for 849!

    Wondering if I could get a refund…

  • +1

A lot of upvotes for fairly standard prices for grey imports. Am I missing something here?

    • +2

i think most grey imports either you have to send the phone to China or HK for warranty claim and also it only has 12-month warranty. this one from amaysim offers 24-mo local warranty, so that reason is enough to give this deal a plus for me even though it has similar price to other grey imports

      • Yeah I find it strange on how amaysim can offer Australian warranty on grey imports

        • It’s not an extension of the manufacturers warranty. Your warranty is with Amaysim.

It remains to be seen how difficult or easy they will be to deal with.

  • Picked up one as am upgrading from a Huawei Y550 :) Hopefully will notice the difference!!

  • Either they dropped their price for the S8, or are only offering the Dual-sim version because there is only one Samsung Galaxy S8 page now
(both links to non/dual sim in OP redirect to same link)

    The price for imports is $845 -10% = $760.50

If it is only the dual sim available now, I hope technically the non/dual sim versions are same with the same specs… can anyone clarify? (because I just bought one lol)

  • I have been thinking of switching from iphone to galaxy but am thinking of going back to iphone since there's the new AR which is pretty cool. I feel like iphone's AR might have won me

  • They have increased the price of the import Galaxy S8+ from $915 to $945, so now it is $850.50 after the 10%.

    • For the S8+, they increased the coral blue one to $925 from $915, the pink is still $915.
The $945 is for all the other colours that were not available yesterday.

For those not aware, the second SIM in the Dual SIM models is 2G only, so it won't work on Australian networks (as far as I understand).

    • I think that is incorrect….on the latest Android OS - Marshmallow you get the 4G on primary and 3G on secondary SIM…Maybe someone else can confirm….

    • are you sure about that?

      • +1

That is incorrect. primary sim 2G3G/4G, 2nd sim can do 2G/3G. source - my dual sim S8

  • Broke my S7 edge the other day and went for the S8. How have they not upgraded from QC 2? Lame

  • I find the curved edge screen to be a pain to use. Very hard to hold and scroll with one hand. Keeps touching the edge. The display on the edge becomes distorted due to the curve. In my opinion it is just a gimmick that trades usability with aesthetics. I hope this design trend does not catch on with other makers.

  • Any one else received any shipping info yet for their orders?

    • Nope

      • Neither have I….no proper invoice either…

        • When I read it said 3-4 days handling. I only got the email from purchase as well. I ordered on the afternoon on the 24th. Was hoping for it by tommorrow but seems very unlikely. Be good to know if shipping from Aus or Asia.

        • @Gringoesai: I think it will ship from Asia ..

        • +3

Just got off live chat - should be shipped tomorrow according to their process if ordered on Tuesday and then 2-7 days and shipped from Asia. Couldn't really escalate as within time frames.

        • @Gringoesai:

Great stuff and thanks for sharing that info.

        • +1

@Ndiddy: Unfortunately I have a strong feeling it wont be the case. Cheers though
