  • Thanks OP

  • Thanks. Bought. Although don't really know why

  • ….out of stock
    damn missed out

  • The biggest question is how long does the battery last? 1 month? 1 year? 5 years? 20 years? My main door alarm bell has D size batteries and it has been going strong for the last 15 years.

Most likely will be a cancelled order. Received confirmation from PayPal, but nothing from Swann… Sigh.

    • Yes it was running for way too long .

    • Did you create an account or checkout with PayPal?

      • PayPal

    • I ordered at 1am, got through to the 'Success' page on checkout. No confirmation email now, more than 24 hours after ordering but my credit card has been charged. Not sure if I should wait for item to arrive or follow up with Swann…

      • If you do follow up with Swann, please let us know. I haven't had any confirmation from Swann yet.

        • There is hope if you didn't get a confirmation email. Just got this reply from Swann sales:

Thank you for your Swann order.

Due to the high volume of sale since Monday we have had an overload on our email system.

Please note you should receive an email in the next 24-48 hours

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us

        • @mrpoppy:

Just received tax invoice email from these guys after not hearing anything since buying.

        • @wheresthebeef:

Ok, thanks. I'm still waiting for email so will now try and get a refund.

Been using this for about a year as a night-time when-at-home intrusion alert system that can wake me without waking the neighbourhood. Have four PIRs at strategic locations outside and a couple of the reed switch-based 'gate alert' add-ons with the wires to their annoying sirens snipped. It complements my Arlo which isn't practical for night-time alerts due to false positives.

Overall, I have a love-hate relationship with it - the PIR sensors function just about perfectly and have excellent battery life, while the receiver's interface sucks and constantly flashes false low-battery alerts - but I haven't seen anything else like it on the market (i.e. inexpensive and easy to set up and move around, has several zones, has PIR and reed sensors available, works without internet, works without mains power).

Putting the feelers out there…if anyone wants to sell one of these to me (I missed out because you know, sleep is important), I will buy it. Actually really in need of this to catch trespassers on my property!!

    • +1

      What is your home address?

    • Damn missed out, same if any fellow Ozbargainers have bought 1 or more and don't want theirs

    • Mmm… would have loved one of those for the home.

Anyone in Melbourne wants to offload one please let me know.

    • +7

      Sure, $30 and it's yours.

      • -2

A bargain price for additional important sleep.

  • +1

This is a real bargain - this must be a loss for Swann, after postage they would only make $5 at most. Hope they don't cancel.

I have owned the older model Swann drive way alert (only one sensor) for the last 3 years and it has been great. I paid $30 that was a bargain when they were always priced about $36 to $42 It is great to be alerted before someone comes on your drive, great for security at night. Do get a few false alarms but not many (2 to 3 a year), I would angle the sensor down to lower the sensitivity as otherwise if a large truck passed on the road outside my house it could set off the alert. Mainly false alert from large month flying next to the sensor.

    • Its part of their click frenzy sale, only reason they would cancel peoples orders is if they dont have stock to accommodate them

      • Given it's part of their CF sale i would normally expect them to have been on top of the sales volume.
I'm expecting a delivery, but only email was from PayPal (took short cut while ordering).
        Hang on, now i'm confused…

        • Yep, my email was from Paypal as well (ordered via paypal short cut), didn't hang around, there has been so many times I have lost out to a good once a year deal by a matter of seconds..

With Paypal shortcut payment, has anyone got a confirmation from Swann?

        • I ordered via PayPal checkout too but I got an email from swann confirming my order

        • @m in perth:

With Paypal shortcut payment, has anyone got a confirmation from Swann?

          Yeah I did

          @shapers:

Hmm, no confirmation from Swan but took money from Paypal, I will have to wait and see..

          @shapers: I did too

        • +2

          @shapers:
Finally got the Swann email confirmation today :)

        • @m in perth: Hang on, just gimme a second - working on a joke involving black swans, email delays and the Nullarbor.

Called Swann… They received my order even though I haven't received a confirmation email. They expect to ship these out next week.

    • Lovely, looks like it's gonna be a Christmas delivery

      • That would be via GearBest.

        • +1

Isn't now the time to order Easter eggs from GearBest? A bit optimistic to hope for delivery before Christmas from them

    • Thanks - was about to ask the same!

Just got a reply email from Swann:

We can confirm that your order has been received.
Due to the high volume of orders our online email system has been delayed.
You should receive emails from our confirmation system over the next 24 hours.

Good news. Just got shipping confirmation from swann.

  • My mum will finally be able to park the car in the garage and have enough room at the back to close the garage door.

  • I ordered one during click frenzy and just got this email:

    https://1drv.ms/i/s!Aot-_iE5idROg_B3XcyDpq_JE5hdjg

What should I do? Should I tell them to deliver as promised as their system issues is not my problem?

    • You should take the refund.
      Thank you.

    • You can tell them that but they won't care about it and they never promised anything. Sounds mean but that's just the way it is.

    • Damn, I'm worried now. I ordered two units after a few minutes once this deal was posted and haven't received any reply from Swann yet. (Located in Brisbane, QLD)

      • I think you'll be fine, they must just be delayed due to volume of orders

        • Hope so, I'll comment on here once I receive a reply from Swann.

        • Received the following reply from Swann just now.

Thank you for your Swann order,
Please note standard delivery time is 7-10 days after dispatch from warehouse.
However in the last week we have had an unusually high volume of order and there has been slight delays in standard delivery time.
You should have your product in the next 7-14 working days. We apologise for any inconvenience

Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us

        • Just received the automated email containing the shipping number!

        • @PLA74:

          Good stuff :)

Apparently mine arrived today, wldve been yday but no one was home to receive it

Props to Swann for a good experience all round :)

Props most of all to OP :)

        • @X3: Nice one - good news! Can't wait to set mine up when it arrives :)

    • It's a standard professional reply to OOS item. You can't expect all businesses to have proper backend ERP's. This is a bargain after all, so first in, first served.

  • Yay, just got a shipping confirmation.

    • +3

I received mine today at midday.

Read the booklet before putting batteries in the motion detectors, so you can mute the alarm until you're ready. It's a little bit of a shock otherwise.

Unfortunately you can't change the motion detection alarm 'chimes', so we're stuck with woo-woo-woo for channel 1, awooga awooga for channel 2, and a slightly less grating tinkle tinkle on channel 3.

      Not bad for $10.

  • Got email back saying they will refund me back and on top gave me a 20% discount code.

Useless for me so here it is for anyone who wants it: OT5842467IK2

  • Anyone else got them? And installed? That thing is louder than the home theatre systems in Kmart or Target.

  • Dear Valued Swann Customer,

  • Received mine today. Yet to try it out.

  • What a gyp , I ordered shortly after the post went up and have also received the no stock on door bell email. :(

  • Wow, the 2 I bought came delivered in a big box, from a big Freight direct truck, wow.

  • Looks like i made the cut - arrived today…

  • Mine came this afternoon.

  • +1

If anyone in Sydney wants one, pm me. Mine is opened and has had a play around with but I don't really need it. It was more of an impulse buy. Selling for $10 pick up (unless you're happy to pay another $10 for postage)

  • +2

Got mine. As a doorbell, it is good so far.

But the driveway sensor triggers a screaming klaxon burglar alarm !

I don't suppose there is any way to get it to make a more discreet sound ?
I wanted it to alert me when the postie is leaving a package, without scaring him off his motorbike.

Now we see why Swann was so keen to offload them?

    As an eBay review says:

Three levels of alarm, lowest is loud enough to wake the dead. Would I buy another, NO.

    • No way to change the motion sensor channel sounds. I put my driveway sensor on channel 3 as it has a less jarring tinkle-tinkle.
I've also been getting a few false-positives (might be triggered by sunlight/shadow movement or swaying leaves) so I opened up the case and reduced the aperture with some card to narrow the field of view.

      • Thanks,
zone 3 is usable, so I put both sensors on that. Though this means I cannot distinguish between them, or separately mute them.
I suppose in the end, PIr is just not a suitable method for outdoor motion detection. Its either seeing direct sun, or shadows.
They only use it because of the low battery drain.

The other problem is the badly designed wall mount, which does not allow it to be tilted down enough to avoid false alarms from road and neighbours property.

  • +1

Got mine today, disappointing compared to the previous model I have.

As already mentioned, the volume is so loud even on the quietest setting. The previous model had 2 levels of sound, the quiet one was perfect and the sound was 'ding ding'. This new unit the sound for the sensor alert is designed to give you a heart attack or turn you into a nervous wreck. I could not think of a worse sound and crazy that you cant change it, only can change the door bell sound..

Think I can see why Swann were off loading these so cheap.

    • +2

Change both sensors to channel 3, as advised by Thrift. Much better!

      • +1

        Thanks Manic/Thrift

On Ch3 and much better now. Also put some tape on the back of the speaker. I can not hear it in the house without jumping out of my skin..
