      • Many Thanks. A few years ago I would have known this. Good to know it looks like a deal.

    • That does look like an impressive package for the price

    • Add to Cart first then you have the box appear to apply code

  • Is this zenbook a good deal with 20% off?

    https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Asus-ZenBook-UX430UN-14-Laptop-FHD…

  • +1

Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Robotic Vacuum Cleaner was $386 on Shopping Square, but is now $429. With 20% off it's now $343, which is cheaper than before, but I was holding out for 20% of the non-jacked price.

  • +1

    Price jack by Austin computers

Western Digital 6TB yesterday took a screenshot $312.59

    Check today $343.85

  • Any nintendo switch???? please…

    • +1

      There's a search button.

  • +3

Also I have submitted a report to the ACCC too.

    • +3

      link?

      • -3

        link?

You need a link to the ACCC website? LOL.

  • Picked up a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum Fly More Combo from DCXpert. No price hike. :)

  • Not that the ACCC will probably do anything but I reported JW Computers.

I watched them jack the price of the ASUS PG279Q Monitors from 1200~ to 1241 (negligible I know - but still).

When I sent them a message telling them I'd caught them out and asking them why, they changed the item to appear as Out of Stock even though my screenshots have it saying that there were 10 available and no additional purchases were made.

    • they did the same on a x34 predator monitor i had in my cart but jacked the price at least $50

      • they did the same on a x34 predator monitor i had in my cart but jacked the price at least $50

Why are you posting false information?

Here is your comment - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5533008/redir

Clearly your maths is an issue or you're deliberately misleading people.

Pricks! Reporting jw_computers wanted to buy the Acer predeator x34 monitor it was $1,427 20% off brang it down to around 1,117 now they have jacked the price to $1,494. How are they getting away with this

As cypher67 pointed out - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5533510/redir - The price increase was $1427 to $1442 which is $15 not the $67 that you claimed and it's at least $100 cheaper than anyone else.

Good luck with your ACCC complaint when you can't even get a basic fact correct. Another empty claim of price jacking and another empty claim of a ACCC complaint.

        • I submitted the complaint, not the above dude.

        • @rhz:

I submitted the complaint, not the above dude.

The above dude claimed that he put in a complaint to the ACCC in the comment that I linked to.

        • The price was bumped to $1,497 actually.. they have reduced it to $1,447 probably from all the complaints they were getting I have a screen shot to prove t

  • ShoppingSquareAustralia has definitely jack up their Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Gen 1 price; I still remember it should be early $300 mark but that is no longer the case.

Do they cope the 20%? I thought eBay cope it?

    • -1

      Ebay copes it

    • Both ebay and retailer cope a certain percentage.

      • Well this should explain why they jack it up …. but definitely not making any sense if eBay fully copes the 20%

        • +4

Yep. That's why Computer Alliance did not participate in the sale as they did not want to jack up prices. Respect to them.

  • +7

I came here just for the price jacking comments :O

  • +1

When people are submitting price jacking complaints to ACCC, are you actually using the term "price jack", or is there a more formal term?

OTT, but "Price Jack" sounds like a good, catchy name for an online shop.

    • -4

As much as I hate the "Price Jack" sellers have the rights to jack up their price, no? so what will ACCC do?

      • +7

Yes and no. Changing the price is one thing; advertising 20% off and then changing the price is another. The latter can be very misleading.

I bought one of this printer from warehouse 1 LEXMARK 28C0574 CX310DN Color Laser Multifunction Printer but can't use paypal as it shows full price without 20% discount. so need to use credit card to pay for it. anyone got the same experience by paying paypal?

You use PayPal and insert the code before you finalise the deal. But those printers are sold out so how are you purchasing it now?

      • I think I bought the last one.

        • I think I bought the last one.

Have you paid already? It's complicated if you have so best to contact ebay and tell them what happened and they may apply the 20% discount otherwise you will have to contact the seller who may be willing to cancel the printer sale. But if he does it's unlikely they will relist again at that price as it's already half what other sellers are selling it for.

        • @Maverick-au:
thanks already paid by using credit card payment after 20% discount. I intended to use paypal for return protection in the beginning but not successful.

    Ryzen 5 1600 $309 before discount. $265 on PCCaseGear.

    Useless.

    • $247.20 delivered is still better than $265.

      But it's not 20% off.

      • +4

I'd buy from PCCG just based on principle. These sellers just raise the prices so the discount only makes it slightly cheaper. It's not really 20% off at all.

        • exactly. I'd rather just pay full price from an honest hard working business and not some manipulative ebay seller

  • -8

All these people crying because they adjusted their prices. It was pointed out that the seller wears 10% of the cost of these sales. In the example above with the X34 they increased their price by 2%. You are still getting it over $100 cheaper than anywhere else on the market, there is still bargains.

It's more then 10%. They have to wear the 20% reduction themselves PLUS ebay charge them their regular fees on the PRE DISCOUNT PRICE not on the price with the discount.

      • I'm not crying.. I'm just saying for the most part it costs the same for me to go to a CPL, MSY or PC Case gear and buy the same product for about the same price or less. Which makes this sale a waste of time in my eyes.

  • +4

    No need to complicate it:

    • Have expectations of around 5% off real prices when using the 20% off code and you won't be upset.
    • Make doubly sure the code is applied before paying otherwise you could pay 15% over.
    • Price check everything with MSY or similar. If no advantage don't buy.

    AU $3,371.48 for a 13" 256GB Macbook Pro with Touch Bar… 20% off makes it $2,697 which is $2 under RRP…

I bought the same laptop for $2,429 at Christmas time.

Never thought I'd join the price jack campaign until today.

  • definitely misleading pricing. i bought a lenovo mixx 700 i7 LTE for $835 - 10% ~ $751. now it is $1088 - 20% = $870. ~$120 more than what i paid at 10%.

    my comment form previous post.
I recently bought a Lenovo hybrid from JW computers when eBay had 10%off. I was bummed when I saw 20% off eBay including jw computers. But when I actually looked at the listing JW price hacked the item by 20% so now it's more expensive then the price I paid. I don't understand the eBay tactics. As always I rely on ozbargain if anything is a good deal it will come up here.

For everyone saying to give the sellers a break because they are bearing the costs of the discount - no! If they can't absorb the cost of the discount against the increased sales then they shouldn't have signed up to participate. It's just greed.

      • +9

You clearly have no idea about the law, I suggest you stop making comments about what you do not understand.

        • You clearly have no idea about the law, I suggest you stop making comments about what you do not understand.

So why doesn't the ACCC do anything despite the hundreds of people that complain each time there is a sale? Either the people are liars and don't make a complaint or the ACCC does nothing because this is not against the law. Maybe you should quote the actual breaches of the law?

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:
The ACCC has fined Kogan for doing the very same thing, the ACCC has limited resources so just because they have not gotten a settlement with an ebay seller in the last year does not mean it is not against the law (nor does it mean that the ACCC is 100% not currently going after someone for it)!

Hell, a real lawyer on Whirlpool even advised a client that it is against the law! (and I would take the ACCC and lawyers word over childish contrarians!).

    • I agree, they should forgo singing up to mislead the public. Let EBay run their 5% off promotion if they want. All these re-sellers do is use this farce to sell more hardware.

  • +1

Great price on the GoPro Hero 6 from VideoPro. They didn't raise prices.

  • What's the intention for linking ACCC form? You think complaints will help stop them form price jacking?

    • +11

With enough complaints the ACCC will sue some of the stores and maybe they will get it into their thick heads that they can not run fake sales!

      • -4

Again what laws are being broken? You keep telling people that they have no idea but you won't quote anything to back your claims up.

Good, you can copy and paste but what specific laws are being broken?

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

Refer to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 that was provided in the link, read all sections on 'Bait advertising' and then apply common sense. (noting that prices were inflated mid sale)

        • -3

Common sense has nothing to do with these laws and no-one can post the relevant sections that apply to these sales. Retailers can change prices as they have to especially in the case of the GPUs.

        • +1

          @Maverick-au:

          https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2013C00620/Html/Volu…
          refer to section 157

The sale period was pre defined. Once the sale began, the shown listing prices of the vendors would be considered normal price.

By increasing the price of the product one could argue that a bait and switch tactic was applied. By using a sale to entice and attract the customer, the product was switched for one at a higher price within the sale period.

Although the percentage advertised itself remained consistent, the base price was not..and increased as the sale progressed. Retailers can discount further down.. (although in some cases over discounting can also be illegal).

        • -3

          @Aneurism:

The sale period was pre defined. Once the sale began, the shown listing prices of the vendors would be considered normal price.

The prices were not advertised, there is a difference.

By increasing the price of the product one could argue that a bait and switch tactic was applied. By using a sale to entice and attract the customer, the product was switched for one at a higher price within the sale period.

Bait and Switch how? The goods are not advertised and it was not one retailer involved in the sale. How did the store entice you into their "store" with a price that was advertised that was not obtainable?

The ACCC don't care, our so called consumer laws are useless and they were written for bricks and mortar stores.

        • +4

          @Maverick-au:

It was and is advertised on ebays banner page.. It's the same as putting a sign on a store window saying 20% off everything..and when you walk in prices have been jacked up 20% as well.

          https://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/pctech?_trkparms=%2…

There is also a clear sale period as per the terms of the sale as per the above link with the participating stores clearly defined. The participating stores could have chosen not to be listed or not to participate. So they cannot deny or defer responsibility to ebay itself. Unless of course ebay did not do due diligence of disclosing the fore mentioned sale dates to the participating stores..(which is highly unlikely and improbable). But if that were to have happened, then those stores would need to litigate separately against ebay.

Prices were increased within that clear sale period. When someone has a sale and advertises a sale, the common expectation is for prices to go down and NOT up.. This is why the practice is deceptive and is a bait and switch.

  • +5

Literally proceeded to check out with this 1060 here only to be notified that the price had been jacked up from $480 to $507 so it wouldn't let me proceed with the original price. Not happy

EDIT: Futu literally just increased this by $50 as I was about to add to cart…

  • The Sony TV from Videopro I wanted didn’t get price jacked. $3188 down to $2600 delivered.

    • Cool mate, have you bought it yet

shopping express/futu just jacked up the msi 1080 ti by $50 in the last 10 minutes. still works out to $10 less than the non-ebay stores, but it's annoying as i was just about to buy for $1070 and now it's $1120 :(

  • Hi guys. Does anyone know if i "make an offer" and it is accepted on an ebay listing. Would you be able to checkout and pay and apply the 20% off code still afterwards??? Or if my offer is accepted im locked in and cant use the 20% off code at payment/ checkout time???

Can anyone recall if you can input discount codes when settling the accepted offer??

    • You can still apply a coupon code to offers at checkout yes. Checkout method is the same.

  • +1

I hate the fact other sellers are selling the same product for considerably less than the ones included in the 20% coupon. Almost makes me want to buy from them based on principle even if they are slightly more.

    • I just want a 10% off sitewide… So pissed they ended the Boxing Day one early.

  • +2

    Price jack BS

  • +2

Futo Online also price jacked.. 1080 Ti Gaming X.. It wouldn't be far fetched to think that they would have done the same for everything else. Personally I'd rather buy directly from a real store than buy a price jacked one online that pretty much works out to be the same price.

  • +2

Shopping express also price jacked. Couple of days ago the 6tb Ironwolf drive was $270. Now $309. I know because I'm building a NAS and took all the WD red and ironwolf prices down. Funny that they have all jumped up!

  • managed to grab a ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR for just over $800 :)

    • Nice! Man if the IPS variant of that monitor went for that price I would have jumped on.

      • Yeah I just realised its not the IPS version :( I had that model number written down and got too trigger-happy lol. Oh well, should still be good.

        • I ended up settling for an Acer XB271HU for $811.20 delivered knowing that it's definitely not the cheapest it's ever been. Needed a monitor urgent so bit the bullet. I wanted the IPS Asus variant of yours really bad but the difference in price to the Acer would have been a few hundreds or so even after discount!

        • @watty: Wanted to buy this very same monitor but figured if its only a $90 saving from buying direct from PLE at "RRP" $899, might just do that instead. Dont want to mess around if I need to return it back over east.

          Enjoy the monitor!!

@starburstyellow: Ah fair enough, I'm lucky enough to live close to the store I bought from.

  • I had been watching an item from DCXpert since expiration of the last code and purchased it using the code today, there did not jack their prices - also they shipped it within 3 or so hours after purchase!
