Sure.. say what you bought, where, how you got the best price, etc.. not should I buy XYZ or ABC, what is a good price, will it do what I want, etc.. like I say.. probably seems worse on this rather generic bargain, rather than say where a single laptop is on special you might get discussion on will it do a b or c, etc…

Do you guys reckon these prices are worth getting now or waiting til the sales after xmas?
To all the people asking "Now or after Christmas" - my personal opinion, keeping in mind that it's just one layperson's opinion and not some retail expert, is that the sales will be very aggressive before Christmas because all of the retailers are struggling due to the interest rate rise, high dollar, etc.
Therefore they're not waiting until the Christmas sales to bring the sales, and are aggressively discounting right now. There's only so much you can discount something without eradicating your margins, so my bet is that things will look pretty same-same on either side of the holiday.
With the speed and amount that people here are buying, you'd hardly think the retailers are struggling ;)
hmmm i was in macquarie centre the other day, and it was basically empty. We're around 2 weeks away from christmas and the place would normally be packed.

Sale or not, it's just asking them for a price match. You can ask them to match someone elses price 365 days of the year, sometimes they will match, it depends what you're buying. You can even ask them to beat it if they want the sale. This is what you should be doing regardless, shop around and see who is willing to go the lowest. Good luck.

Just printed out the page from Dick Smith with the TV deals, and asked if he could give me a better price. Walked away with the deal in hand, came back a minute later and said he'd match it. Had to do my best to mask the shock :p
I think I was pretty lucky though - he showed his supervisor (at a guess) on the way past and the guy frowned for a bit, pointed at the 'Staff Discount' part, but then grunted his approval.
I'm happy though :D

yeah, the sale started real early at westfield (4ish), $12 for private ryan bd, could not be happier! (considering i have not watched it b4 :D)
Ok I work in retail and Have so for a few years now. Typically with electronics the Best deals are just before (like a week before) christmas. Whilst on select few electronics, such as Top range tv's and cameras, its best to wait into the new year.
I dont work in retail but tend to think that boxing day sales are not that great any more… gone are the real door busters, and really it will be much the same of what it is like now.. I think retailers are fighting hard for the christmas dollar so anything popular will be discounted now… only really big ticket items like TVs etc that are not really christmas item might come down to entice people to buy.. what do others think?
Went in the last 2 days to bargain on a Pioneer bluetooth headunit and a set of Alpine front splits. When i asked what price i could get on the FF night i was told $369 (down from a pre-increase price of $430). He did mention that ticket prices would rise on the night, said he would honour that price right then and there.
Went back in there today and spoke to different guy, asked for the same quote, $298. Bought it then and there.
$70 saving from a different salesman, play the barter game tonight everyone.

I feel ripped that 2 years ago i paid 3200 for the Sony Bravia XBR 40". Got a free 40gb ps3 though as well and it is better looking than most LCD tv's available today, beautiful glass surrounding and shiny bezel.
