  • When the hell did these need cpu's?

    • You should overclock it!

      • No, overclocks are for noobs.

        • +1

i think we should get watchnerd's opinion on this.
I'm sure he knows a thing or two about clocks.

    • built in mitv box

    • +1

How else does it do computational tasks like convert digital input to anolouge signals for display?
Or play media from a USB, wifi, smart functions etc.

    • +4

It’s a computer. A microprocessor is at the center of every computer.

  • +7

I need this in my life, but the lack of full English and warranty stop me from placing an order.

    • this youtube review gives instructions in his link on how to set up in English https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sk7G3MDtys
Not sure about the warranty issue though.

      • That only shows 60% or 70% English, still lots of Mandarin and the voice search and weather only work for Trump voice "CHINA"

        keep on waiting.

    • i've switched mine to english,
works no problems. Very little hindrance.

You can attach any other home media centre if that makes it easier for you.

In built mi tv is good enough for me.

  • +6

Would probably need to include import taxes as it's over 1k

  • +2

I don't know what the quality is like but it seems kinda expensive next to a Optoma GT1080 …

    • Is the Optoma GT1080 a laser projector?

    • +1

This is a Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector… you place it at where you normally place the TV.

    • +2

I think from this thread and the last one, the general consensus is:

People who have never owned a projector before, only big screen TVs: This is amazing!

People who have owned a projector before: Not as good as other projectors you can get in this price range, despite the laser tech

    • This will be better with ambient light and you'll be replacing the Optoma's lamps 5+ times in this one's lifespan.

  • Do laser projector suffer from rainbow effect?

    • +1

If you notice it you will see it on this as well

      • Thanks, I'll stick to LCD for now.

      • I have had for a few weeks now and not seen any rainbow effect whatsoever

    • +1

Yes,Rainbow effect is caused by DLP wheel, so yes you may still notice it.

      • Cheers for that!

    • I've heard this projector is pretty bad for RBE - if susceptible to it, best avoid.

  • -1

That price for 1080p? No thanks. Waiting for reasonable 4k projectors.

  • I assume I'll need a set top box to watch free to air???

    • +1

You could always Chromecast it from FTV app on your phone.

    • Or buy a fetch tv

  • Plus GST I presume?

    • +1

Yes I had to pay GST on mine

  • +6

I love my Xiaomi gear: vacuum, smart hubs and heaps of sensors, Mi box, 20,000 mAh battery pack, and even the awesome 4k Mi drone.

However, I can't bring myself to spend $1k plus on their laptops/projectors when they offer zero warranty support. :(

    • The Chinese have your home scoped out pretty well from the sounds of it ;)

      • And don't forget the surrounding area thanks to the drone!

  • +2

This review seems to think it is a decent unit. https://youtu.be/6Sk7G3MDtys

  • +3

I have this at home. AMA. Highly recommended if you are in the market for something else than your 55/60/65 4KUHDFHDHDMI run of the mill tv.

The wow factor alone is worth it IMO.

    • +1

Do you have any experience with other projectors in the same price bracket? Would like to know how they compare, even if it is a bit like comparing apples and oranges (super short throw).

      • No sorry, projectors were never an option because I am in an apartment. Its really vibrant and looks gorgeous. But I cant give any concrete proof.

        • Very good point. I guess the price isn’t the draw, it is the throw.

      • I have both this and a pt-ae8000

8000 is better, but not by much in terms of picture quality. This wickedly good projector for price and the UST factor makes it easy to set up.
Which for me is usually tbiggest hassle.

i don't notice any rainbow affect on my xiaomi

        • Thanks! Very tempting!

    • How does it go in daylight?

      • Pretty well I have my lights on in the room and don't have any issues

      • No issues if it’s lights in the house. But if you have sunlight shining on the projected image, no projector is going to stand up to that.

    • I read it comes with mi tv built in. Can you install plex app on it?

      • +1

I havent tried, there are videos on youtube teaching you how to install english OS and app store, I think they got youtube working on it.

I just plugged my apple tv in and it works perfectly.

  • +1

How does gst that is levied against imported goods work? Are you able to claim it back if you take this overseas?

    • The easy answer is it's probably not worth it! Customs legislation has provisions for claiming a Drawback, whereby Customs/Import Duty (not GST!) can be claimed back where goods are imported and subsequently exported. There are conditions around the Drawback scheme though, and really its targeted at Exporters/business rather than individuals.

TRS probably won't help as you need a tax invoice from an Australian retailer as part of its conditions.

Some more info at the bottom of this page if interested ->
      https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/impo/buyi

    • A lot of hassle and not worth it. Major paperwork required on claiming back either one of GST or import duty, and the other one wasn't refundable (can't recall but post above says GST is the one not refundable, and I likely would have failed as an individual by the sounds of it). This was for return of unopened goods too. Thought that was a bit of scam by the gov actually.

Nor of course were AQIS $33 and another $50 handling I had slapped on refundable.

  • 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Girlfriend won't let me buy this, thinking saving for a house is more important.
Can something please buy this for me. I'll be your best friend ever!

    • +1

Pay me back in 5 installments of $500 each?

      • Do you accept watermelon as payment?

        • Only if it is full of australian dollars

        • @spaceflight: If I drop off 2000 watermelon's would that work. Know a farmer.

Question but have a single ozbargainer bought one of these from this post? I don't mean to be rude but I wonder what the point of posting these things is if no one uses them. I'm not saying to stop but I'm genuinely curious if anyone actually does buy them.

    • +3

300 people have clicked the link and two people commenting here have the projector

      • That wasn't my question; has anyone from this deal purchased the device.

        • +1

It’s to soon to say if a poster has purchased this item from this deal. This deal was posted less than 20 hours ago.

        • +2

I have bought one. Just prior to posting this deal.

    • +3

posting a bargain and people interested buying from a posted bargain. they are 2 different scenarios.

  • +3

Ok - so I bought this off the last deal - seriously great machine - yes it cost $2450 after the import duties and taxes but I have a Great Wall to project on and this is freaking awesome. It took a bit of fiddling to put the English language stuff on but realistically you don’t need it any way. Currently I am projecting at 120 inches directly onto my living room wall. Yes it shows some imperfections in the wall and yes for some reasons the top left corner does not display at right angles but… once you start watching something you are never looking there any way so you don’t notice it.

I love this machine and when we watch movies it is like having gold class at home. We watch most tv through Foxtel and it is great. Full HD is better but I don’t pay extra for it… although the picture is seriously good any way. We have played Xbox on it as well and it is great.

    Very happy with my purchase.

    • +10

      You project onto a car?

      • hahaha - i just mean I have a great wall space to project on that is painted white :-)

      • You don't?

    • Any noticable input lag for the Xbox?

      • None that I could see on NBA 2018 but I am not much of a gamer so have not used it a lot.

  • WOW. Was not aware of these very short throw projectors. Very impressed.

  • +2

Anyone interested, here is a thread about it: https://www.avforums.com/threads/xiaomi-mi-ultra-short-5000-…

  • +3

i have had mine a few weeks now and its amazing
i got stung on import tax but litb paid half.
    cash rewards 5% back
so i was an out of pocket about $100 for the tax

quality is really good …….yes its not 4k but its freking 120", playing games on it is unreal. next to no lag btw.
its clear and crisp and handles daylight really well

i watch fta through xbone and its fine, sd channels can look a bit rubbish at times so big but its a trade off.

a few initial teething problems getting the hdmi switching to do what i wanted but found a second menu and its talking nicely to my amp.

    highly recommend

    • +1

how did you get LITB to pay half of the import tax.

      I have ordered one yesterday.

      • Once you get it you raise a ticket with them, I think they will stop doing it if everyone claims it but they honoured mine. Don't forget cash rewards also, it's another $100 or so

    • +1

wow how did you get them to pay half??

  • +3

Gst + duty + no consumer guarantees + potential fan noise. Not worth it.

    • I cant hear any fan noise and i use it about 2-3m away from projector.

      • The fan is quite loud but if you are watching something you can't hear it

  • +3

    Beware when buying from LITB.
I have tried to unsubscribe from their advertisement emails 4-5 times in the past 2 months
    No success
If you sign up with them once you're bound for life

    • +1

Yeah same, I've just marked them as spam now.

  • How is the picture quality compared to an Epson EH-TW9200W

    Thanks

    • alabatusa wrote how it compares to a pt-ae8000 a little higher on the page. That might help you.

  • +1

BTW shipping from litb was about 4 days total to melbourne

  • +1

Rep has supplied a new code for the same price, expires 4/3. Code: hawamahal

    • Total price is now AU $2100 after discount code.

  • +1

TLDR: There are better projectors out there.

Just be aware that this projector is only capable of ~1200lm ANSI (worse than many other projectors on the market).
Xiaomi has played a trick when advertising. Their 5000lm is referring to the light source (laser), but in reality only around a third ends up on the screen/wall.
This has already been covered and criticized by a number of reviews from Chinese media. (eg. Link) Flain from whirlpool has also mentioned this.

    FYI, input lag ~88ms (source)

Issue with LITB. After waiting for more than a week to get the item shipped. I get this email today from LITB.

"We are sorry to tell you that due to the oversize of the package there is extra shipping fee charged by the courier company. Please understand you need to repay the difference USD61.06 if you agree to keep the order. In addition, we are trying to improve this so next time when you place new order everything will be made more clear. Thank you for your understanding in advance."

What a joke. So many people here have ordered this item and now suddenly it has become over sized.

    • hi mate, do you mind give me the order number? i will see if i can do any help. this might some system's mistake

      • PM Sent.

        Thanks for your efforts.

        • checked, logistics system problem. i will release your order later and no need pay any. if others get same problem, please pm me the order number.

        • @MiniInTheBox:

          Thanks

Can you please get this shipped ASAP. It has been more than 1 week since I ordered.

        • @hawamahal: it's matched with stock days ago, just stucked due to this problem. so will send out in 1 day if every thing ok

        • +1

          @MiniInTheBox:

Got a reply this morning saying that the order is being cancelled since I refuse to pay the excess charges.

Don't know what is happening with the order.

      • Would you like my order number for a piece of junk you sold me without an English manual.

You totally ignored me on a previous thread.

Ironically,I would be interested in upgrading my 1080p long throw BenQ and Epson projectors.

        Wouldn't trust your firm again.

        • hi mate, very apologize for any ignore, due to lots of message everyday, i can't check every comment on all deals. better pm me next time. about the English manual problem, here might give some helpful information
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363925#comment-5692361

        • @MiniInTheBox: sent a pm, still waiting for my order to finishing processing…..

        • @zorrt:

These guys seem to have major logistics issues, ordered a OnePlus 5T phone that was "Guaranteed to dispatch in less than 24 hours"… Days later I checked for a tracking number and noticed it has not even dispatched!, opened a support case and was told it "will be shipped out within 48 hours" (OzBargin contact "MiniInTheBox" helped get the order out for me which was good but as a company, these guys seem like a bit of a joke!)

I'm still waiting for DHL tracking to come online it's been around 3 days and still nothing! Only tracking is currently via some 4px service who apparently pass it onto DHL (how long that takes no one knows)…'

Overall unhappy with this mob's logistics, especially as this is suppose to be their fastest "Expedited Express" shipping method!

Just a warning if you are in a hurry for any goods don't waste your money with the top shipping level and perhaps even consider purchasing from another source all together!

  • 30/3: Available again with coupon miprojector3 (thanks to rep)

  • This deal is supposed to be active again with a new code thanks to user Pln, but the coupon doesn't appear to 'exist' according to the website. I have sent a private message to the rep with the below message.

Another ozbargain member by the username Pln asked for a discount code (OZBPLN) for Xiaomi Mi Ultra Short 5000 ANSI Lumens Laser Projector

However the OZPLN code doesn't work (it says coupon does not exist). Just want to check with you if the coupon is indeed working or has already expired? Thanks

    • Any news on this new code ? Keen to burn a hole in my pocket.
