Works well - added last time to my collection of multimeters dating back to the my Avo 8.

Bonus is that it uses regular AA batteries.

    • +1

      AAA x2

      • Sorry, typo….

        • +1

It's a good little meter. But I'm reluctant to trust it on mains voltages.

        • @anderoo: Go on, be brave!

        • +2

@PinzVidz: You must be the hairdresser for Yahoo Serious ;)

  • I paid $13.09!!! Damn

    • $12.73 AU for me

    • $13.09, that's what it converted to me also

  • So it cannot be used to check car 12V battery power?

    • I happen to check my car's battery today using it. It's a good device for the price.

    • Why couldn't it?

    • Of course it will. Test it on a car with a heap of different voltages, like a Prius. ;)

      • Will work fine on a Prius
        "DC Voltage: 600mV / 6V / 60V / 600V / 1000V"
Prius is only a few hundred volts.
" first generation Prius update (2000 onwards) was a sealed 38-module nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack providing 273.6 volt"
"The battery pack of the second generation Toyota Prius consists of 28 Panasonic prismatic nickel metal hydride modules—each containing six 1.2 volt cells—connected in series to produce a nominal voltage of 201.6 volts."

  • Great multimeter for the price. Compact size, normal AAA batts, decent looking included probes/packaging, and the 6000 counts.

If I really had to nitpick I do miss having a direct "short test" dial setting like on ol generic Jaycar one. Doesn't help that this meter beeps on any mode change including the dial.

    • +2

      That's not nitpicky, my friend.

I use that buzzer for a HUGE majority of fault finding on dead circuits and decommissioning cables at work.

      Definitely a MASSIVE downside.

Good for your average Joe, though!

      • Maybe you misunderstood? It does have short test, but you have to switch to the resistance mode (beep) then press once or twice the mode button (more beeps lol) to get to the short test mode.

So just finicky to always have to switch it that way.

        • +1

          Ahh I did misunderstand.

But that is still a bit annoying, especially when swapping from volts to beep, a billion times a day.

Finally a way to measure how electrifying the deals here are

  • Is this a good choice for hobby electronics?

    • +5

Yes. Great reviews online. Nothing beats it anywhere near this price point. Can also measure capacitance, frequency and temperature as well as the usual voltage, current, resistance and diode check/continuity. True RMS AC readings, 6000 count display and a backlight! Runs on cheap batteries. Altronics sells the same unit branded "Micron" for $39.95. Check out this thorough review: https://www.markhennessy.co.uk/budget_multimeters/aneng_an80…

      • Can confirm this. I bought the model without the temp function on it for $30 from Altronics a few days ago. Its a good unit!

  • +4

Decent meter, but the included probes are terrible. Got a pair of these which are much better. Continuity testing comparison.

    • sif not do a tune

    • That youtube clip was awful, sorry. Bumping a couple of metal probes together, and getting a beep-beep-beep?!

Why not preface it, with a 30 second animated clip of how electricity was discovered, how it works, and then how a multimeter works?

And then for good measure…. add 5 seconds of your beep-beeps onto the end? lol

      • +1

My apologies, seems like other people found it helpful in determining just how low/spotty the conductivity of the stock probes is. Not sure how else to show… Could barely measure a resistor without putting a fair amount of pressure on the terminals.

        • +1

Sorry mate, I was trying to be a bit of a smart arse. Please excuse my comment.

Edit - just tried to delete that comment, but I can't now because I've posted this one!!! Sorry :(

        • @clandestino:

Haha, only read the first line so didn't pick up on it :P…oop!

    • Got a pair of these …

I know purely going off an eBay picture isn't the best idea, but look exactly the same as the probes I got with my ZT102!

Actually I just spotted one difference; the caps on included probes don't cover the tip which I think is a great idea lol. Sometimes very sick of taking off the probe caps off my Jaycar meter.

I wouldn't mind a decent pair of the probes with the hook clips though. I got a cheapie pair off eBay but wouldn't use them full time with it.

      • That's weird…yeah the ones that came with mine look like these. Essentially the same look as the ones that come with the cheapy Jaycar meters but with far worse conductivity.

  • +2

This isn't the record low price but still close enough. Great to have a decent quality multimeter in this price range.

  • +1

Seems like the code's gone? "The Code you entered has expired".

    • yeah I got the same

  • As a kid I used to put those little metal things in my mouth to see how much current flows through my oral mucous membranes.

  • Code has expired .

  • +1

    expired already?

    • +1

      yeah that's a bit bullshit.

get it featured on ozbargain for some free advertising then remove the code within around an hour?

      • I second that. Have seen other such bullshit coupons from GB

  • GBMAR160 for $11.99 USD.

When I was young I was playing with the tools my father was shocked by my current behaviour. I was told I had to learn how to conduct myself properly or else I would have been grounded. I said watt, don’t punish me it hertz.

      Ohm my god.

    • Well that comment proved to be a short test on my resistance to reply to this comment.

      • I used to date a female electrician.
        She was shocking in bed.

  • 13 bucks is nowadays pretty well standard cost some even oz stock. When I did my apprenticeship they were around 2 years wages.

  • Update coupon working again.

  • Code expired again!

    • Thanks have marked it expired.

Just checked and found ZT102SALE is working again.
