You should add new customers only. Good deal.

      hijacking top comment for visibility.

i got this deal last time they offered it a few months back. was simple to talk to the sales rep and get +2GB data for a total of 17GB per month for $30.

i was already on an old optus postpaid plan. many years out of contract. in order to keep my number I had to port out to a $2 telstra prepaid sim and then sign up as a new optus customer.

so much for loyalty. i get a discount on optus cable because my mobile is with them. NBN is still two years away or i'd have left them.

      • Were there any issues with your Optus cable discount with you porting your mobile out and back in?

      • What do you say to get the +2GB data? Looks like a great deal!

    • +1

I was able to sign up just by selecting "I'm with Optus" option and putting in my current number…

      • RolandWaites reports below that he did the same yesterday and his change was confirmed today.
Let us know if your change is successful.

      • are you prepaid or postpaid

        • Postpaid, but out of contract. I did the order this morning and can confirm that it went through. My account now shows the new data allowance.

      • Thanks, buddy. Was able to upgrade my postpaid number (outside contract) today.
Placed order in the morning and generated a temp order. But nothing happened on the account so I reached out chat. They managed to process it and it is now showing correctly.
Only thing I found data is not 15G. It is 15G + the old plan's data. This worries me a bit if it will be double charged.

  • Great deal. Some of the Optus Perks that pop up every now and then can be useful too.

  • +2

Can i get this being on Optus prepaid?

  • +1

I'm so hesitant to lock in because the deals just keep getting better! Has anyone managed to get their data bumped halfway through their plan?

    • +3

I signed up to a similar deal with optus a year ago with 10gb of data. They upped my data to 12gb about halfway through. I imagine it would be possible

  • GF got this deal but for $40 2 months ago, i guess she is screwed out of $10 a month.

    • Same. Dammit..

      • ohhh,, that hurts. you will be throwing $120 more for the life of the contract.

    • Didn't that deal have double data though?

      • That's what I thought as well. I signed up for the 12 month contract 2 months ago; 30GB for $40 but was part of the double data explosion.

    • +11

You should be the only one screwing her

      • But Optus goes, yessssssssssssss oh yes ;)

  • I am on the $40/month plan discounted to $30 from the staff discount just over a year ago. This deal is good, but I don't suppose I can move to it.

Worth noting that international calls through Optus on my mobile have considerably better quality than through typical VoIP phones. Crystal clear and no lag.

    • you should be able considering its only 12 month contract, yours should be over?

  • +3

Kogan and lebara are cheaper? Less than 20 bucks for similar data?

    • +9

      Yes but Vodafone network.

      • +1

Optus is consistently worse than Vodafone for me in Sydney Metro.

    • +1

But you've got to pay for a whole year in advance to get those prices (around $20 p/mth on special at the moment) with Kogan, if you pay by the month then it's $37 p/mth for 16gb. Lebara is $40 p/mth for the same, only dropping to $35 p/mth if you pay a year in advance.

  • Do I have to be a completely new customer, or can I get this if my previous 12-month lock in already expired and I ported out to another service?

    • +1

You should be able to get this. Give it a shot.

      • Hopefully, still waiting to receive the port-out-SIM and hopefully give this a shot

    • +4

I was able to change my $40 plan to this plan previously. Fist call Optus and request to change your service from postpaid to prepaid.
No sim change is required. Wait until you get confirmation message then choose "I"m with Optus - Upgrade my prepaid to a Plan". This way you do not need to pay porting fee.

      • How long does it take them to convert you from postpaid to prepaid?

  • +10

This is a good price for 15gb but Optus customer service is really really bad. Bad enough for me to pay a little extra for Telstra. Asking even a simple question on their online chat often involves 2 hours and speaking to multiple people.

My partner ordered this deal last time it was available - she submitted the form and waited for her sim card to arrive. And waited. And waited. Eventually we called Optus who said they had to manually push her order through and that it will now arrive in a few days. And we waited, and waited, and gave up. Two months later it never arrived. Optus has never called or emailed her following her up.

    • +3

Agreed with this but with free Spotify and Optus Sport is enough to get many people across the line though

      • Of course. I jumped on the Telstra Google Pixel 2 deal and sold the phone. Factoring in the free Apple music for 6 months it basically costs me $0 a month for 20gb - can't complain!

      • Is it free spotify streaming or free premium subscription? Because Spotify costs $6 a month for me, but I'm with Vodafone.

        • its data free steaming. You can use paid or free spotify, its just that optus doesn't charge any data usage! Super useful because i listen to like 5 gigs a month worth of music streaming lmao

    • +1

      Optus phone = bad
Optus online chat = pretty good

  • +1

Existing customer. Selected that option, gave them my existing Optus phone number. Transaction page has no problem maintaining this offer right through to checkout. Glitch?

    • Did it complete the order? Interested as my gf is on the same deal month to month for $40/Mo.

      • It went through. I've received an email saying they've received my order, so let's see..

      • +1

Update: Seems to have worked fine for me. Just received a text message saying Optus Sport had been added to my account for $0 and my Optus app says I'm now on the $30 plan.

        • Thats good news! Did you just select the 'Upgrade my Preapid to a Plan" option when you signed up?

        • @Matt89: I believe yes.

        • @RolandWaites: I did this as well, but when I look at the CIS in the phone app, it just shows 3GB, with no international minutes.

          Curious what yours shows, [@RolandWaites]?

Data pool shows I have 33GB total, which has gone up from 27GB (15GB from wife on my account; 12GB from me), so not sure what's going on.

          Received an SMS which said,

"OPTUSMSG:Hi, thanks for adding 3GB Extra Shared Data (24 Months), $0 Mobile TV Streaming, Optus Sport (Mobile) and Optus Sport Discount to your Optus Service. Your order reference number is: ********. For more information visit http://yesopt.us/chat2us"

Next bill amount is showing $70, but should be $60, but perhaps will be updated.

Bit concerned, but presume I can cancel if they don't give me what I signed up for.

    • are you prepaid or postpaid

  • Been happy so far… a few issues needed to be worked out via live chat, which did require multiple attempts. Did rate them low on the survey though and left detailed comments on what happened.

Other than that have no issues so far.

As with any overseas support centre you just need to keep persisting with the support calls or chats.

  • Streaming services subject to change at any time

  • If I still have 18 days on my pre-paid plan, will it void that by signing up to this plan?

    • +1

yes you lose that 18 days.

  • So if I get this out then I'll get Optus sport which shows premier league and the upcoming world cup?

    • +1

Yeap essentially you get Optus Sport and everything that Optus Sport offers

      • Thanks!

  • Do we get students discount on top?

    • +2

I was able to claim the 10% discount on a previous iteration of this deal.

      • how did u manage to apply the discount, i have the code but when i apply the code it says not valid for this deal.

  • Optus can go get stuffed.. Was with them for ten years and refused me this plan.. now I'm a virgin..

    • +2

Optus owns Virgin and will soon be discontinuing it.

    • +4

I didn't know a phone company can give back your virginity…

      • +5

I would imagine he had it the entire time?..

  • No deal for me optus in the past included the Philippines in their international minutes but not any more.

    • Are you sure the phil is excluded now???just spoke to a fil agent and confirms that the phil is included tho on the list the phil is not ther🤔🤔

      • not sure only going by what there list says.

    • noticed that, too. I wonder why they removed the Philippines from the list.

  • So what's with Optus they include The Philippines in the international minutes for 32 countries in the sim only plans but not in the 35 countries in this plan.

  • Can you do companion plan with this

  • New customers only

  • Tried customer chat and they said they were on maintenance for 2 hours lol :(

  • +2

Just remember Optus doesn’t support visual voicemail.

  • I got this late last year, for some reason my bill shows as $40 a month with a $10 credit and a separate $5 credit so I'm actually paying only $25 a month? Not that I'm complaining lol

    • Yeah me too. I also have student discount they added when trying to fix a missing discount and 25% from second attempt off so it costs about $13. I can't be bothered asking them to fix it cause it will probably end up somehow worse than what I signed up for.

  • +1

Had a few problems from last deal, optus sport was meant to be included, they charged me for it for 2 months before saying it wasn't apart of my deal (I never used it so didn't care), they charged me full price on my first month because apparently thats what they do, they also sent me a second sim and tried to charge me twice (this was stopped by support after a few hours on the online chat), they have also billed my account twice some months (this was credited back to me but only after I checked my bank records).

Seems afew people from the same deal I got had similar issues (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/330777?page=1#comment)

Im locked in for 12 months but cant see myself getting another optus sim.

  • My missus signed up for one of these almost bang on a year ago exactly.

So we went in to the store on the weekend to follow up and say "hey, so what can you do for us, we think this is about to reset?"
The guy looks up our plan, it's apparently 70 or 72$ damn near discounted by half (she pays about 36? for 20GB)

However he says 'I can't tell' and isn't sure if it will reset, blah blah. He said all plans are 24 months so surely this will last another year. (yet the description of the plan on his display said 12M)

So, basically, I reckon she's gonna get a $72 bill next month, anyone got one of these and somehow it just 'stayed' discounted?

    • Oh and while I'm at it - if they do screw us, any tips on a 20GB plan that's under $45 AUD per month?
(even if we need to pre-pay a heap?)

    • If it's like this plan (which I signed up to earlier in the year) you have access to the plan at that price for 24 months, but are only locked in for the first 12.

  • Does it mentioned when it needs to be activate by?

  • Great, perfect timing. Was bummed I missed out on the previous deal with double data but then again I don't use anything up to that amount and this is the cheapest deal I've seen that has fit my needs. Thanks :)

  • New to OzB. I am currently with optus on $36pm with 11GB data.. will it be worth porting to another provider s prepaid card and moving back to optus?

    Will I get this deal?

    • Yeah, if you're out of contract.

    • If you’re out of a plan, you don’t have to port out. You can just sign up by selecting the “I’m with Optus” option.

  • wouldn't you be better off getting the s8 deal recently. 40 per month and a phone?

    • I think the deal was $49p/m on a 24month contract, $456 difference over two years. Not so worth it anymore

  • -1

Your order cannot be accepted at this time due to Optus criteria

    • +1

What criteria didn't you meet? Are you on a post-paid plan?

  • Does anyone know how long this deal shall be avaliable for? Or is it a case of when they decide?

    Thanks

    • +1

Site says "Offer ends 20/05/18, unless extended."

  • -8

    Kogan is ALWAYS BETTER.
Only $20.90 for same plan and NO CONTRACT!
(without international minutes but who not required now with Facebook/Viber/Whatsapp calls)

    • +1

Nah. I prefer this deal because Optus Sport is included and Kogan obviously can't provide that. So yeah nah mate

    • +1

kogan reception sucks too at times

    • Some people still require international calls …
You can’t just compare two products with two different price points
It’s not like they’re both Optus with the same offering and one happens to be a lot cheaper

    • +1

      apples and oranges

Not everyone has access to voip and those international calls, for some, are really valuable

      These are two different plans

  • Was on chat last night - existing (out of contract) customers cannot get this deal at $30. They would have to pay $30.
Am considering porting out and back in, but sounds like a lot of hassle and no guarantee I would be eligible.
