Greetings everyone, I noticed this deal posted over at TB and thought it was worth posting. Thanks to Nick123 for the find and post, credit to him!

As per this article, Amazon will be running some great promos for their Prime Day.

  • Prime members will get $10 in Amazon credit when they stream Prime Video for the first time between July 9 and 17.
  • Those who join Kindle Unlimited before July 31 will get two months of free access to Kindle Unlimited, with over one million titles for new customers
  • Those who join Audible between July 9 and 31 will get three months free access.

It is also referenced in the article posted by Ausdroid.

I also noticed that Amazon AU is following similar trends to the US store for their specials, such as the 4 Months Unlimited Music for $0.99, and also the Kindle Deal. Similar deals have also been bouncing around Amazon UK, Amazon Germany and others for the lead up to prime day.

Edit 9/7 12:01AM: Official page live:

Q. How does this promotion work?
To receive a credit, take the following steps:

Step 1: A Prime membership is required to take advantage of the promotion. If you’re already a Prime member, proceed to Step 2. If you do not have a Prime membership yet, either (a) sign up for a Prime membership or (b) if you have not already had a 30-day Prime free trial, eligible customers may sign up for a 30-day Prime free trial Amazon.com.au/Prime.

Step 2: Sign into your Prime account on PrimeVideo.com or compatible devices and stream any movie or TV episode.

Step 3: A $10 credit will be applied directly to your amazon.com.au account within 3-4 days. When the credit is applied, you will receive an email confirmation that the credit has been applied to your account. The promotional credit will not appear visibly in your account, but you will see the amount applied on the receipt when you make a purchase. The credit can be used for anything sold and fulfilled by Amazon AU, and will not apply to items sold by third party sellers or other Amazon entities (including Amazon US). Offer will also not apply to digital content, subscription purchases (such as Kindle Unlimited or Audible) or Amazon Gift Cards.

  • The $10 credit will expires at 11:59 PM AEST on July 27, 2018.
  • The $10 credit can be applied to the eligible items contained in orders equal to or exceeding $20. Taxes, shipping and handling, and gift wrap charges do not apply when determining minimum purchase amount.
  • Offer and promotional credit will only apply to items on amazon.com.au that are shipped and sold by Amazon AU (look for "sold by Amazon AU" on the product detail page). Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities (including Amazon US) will not qualify for this offer, even if "fulfilled by Amazon AU" or "Prime Eligible."
  • Offer does not apply to digital content, subscription purchases (such as Kindle Unlimited or Audible) or Amazon Gift Cards.

As always, enjoy!

Terms have just gone live, deal starts at 12:01am :) Credit has a $20 min spend.

  • +6

DANG IT, pretty sure I clicked on a random vid on the Xbox when I got it to see if it worked, but didn't watch anything since :(

    • Same I clicked some Grand Tour to make sure it worked

    • +3

Make a new account if you want :) The free trial for new accounts is still available.

    • Yep.. think I did the same thing… wanted to see if it would Chromecast.

      • +3

No Chromecasting is available when you use Amazon Prime Video (AU, US, UK etc… all sites). You can cast it via Google Chrome from your PC to your Google Chromecast though.

I currently view Amazon Prime Video with a Nvidia Shield (Android) TV,or a Sony Bravia 'smart' TV (pre-Android TV). Other viewing alternatives are either directly on apps on your Android smartphones & tablets, iPhones & iPads or on Amazon own Fire TV devices. Currently the only Amazon AU Fire device is a very basic stripped down unit. You won't get it on any of the el-cheapo 'yum-cha' 'Android TV' boxes (many of these uses Android tablet version, nopt Android TV) either unless I'm mistaken.

I believe the reason why it has not been available via Chromecast and Apple TV is due to a 'turf war' that has been going on in the US for a couple years now between these 3 protagonists. I believe the Youtube app on the Amazon Fire devices is a very old clunky version from what I have read.

So Amazon Prime Video can be viewed but nowhere is it as easy or as accessible as Netflix. Also, the content has been stripped right back to Amazon Prime's own TV shows and films. The title catalogue is nowhere near what is available from Amazon Prime in the US and UK. I have just lost all access to the titles on these sites, since Sunday the 1st. There have been a few old films from the 90s added in the last couple of days. This lack of titles in the Amazon Prime Australian site is due to pre-existing rights (DRM) held by existing owner's and their licence holders in Australia (Australian FTA TV, Foxtel, Stan etc). When these rights expire they may get picked up by Amazon, but I wouldn't bet the house on it as we are such a small market and they are making this content free as part of the Prime AU membership.

Even with VPN, and smart DNS I cannot access any of the US sites content any longer, despite tweaking with settings even though I can still watch Netflix US. I can still access the Amazon Prime Music via my US Prime membership, and I have still been making Prime Shipping purchases from the US site as before the 1st July, 2018 (for the moment).

Anyone contemplating, just go for the Amazon AU Prime 30 day trial first and don't forget to cancel the automatic renewal at the end of the trial period if you are not satisfied.

It is early days now, but I believe in time Amazon AU will make it's impact, as long as they weed out the 3rd party sellers in the Amazon Marketplace with their extortionate prices who are dragging them down (imho). If you do want it, just puy the cheap Amazon Fire TV device as it is ready to go and the set up & operation is pretty simple as it gets.

        Ciao.

P.S. Headover to whirlpool.net.au for robust discussion, tips and information. I'm pretty sure there is plenty of comment (both informed and misguided) to glean from.

        • It is on the AppleTV now. Was released late-ish last year I believe. They did knobble it for a while with garbage audio, but was an outcry.

It is an utter joke as amazon AU don't even sell the 4k fire TV…

        • There are also Playstation and Xbox apps for Prime Video.

    • Not as bad as me buying something for 0.03 and $6 delivery, then missing out on the $20 for new customers :/

  • +1

Lucky then after 20 mins of searching I found absolutely nothing worth watching when I joined the 1 month free Prime. I'll hit the play button on the 9th!

    • +5

      American Gods is great

    • Same

    • +1

      You kidding?!

      American Gods
      The Terror
      The Night Manager
The Man in the High Castle
Startup (Discovered this only because of prime video and I binged watched two whole seasons in 3 days)
      Penguins of Madagascar
      Jack Ryan (Coming Soon)
      The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
The expanse!! (New season next year)

  • +1

Good one amazon, way to punish early adopters. It isn't like the service has been around for long either… And kindle unlimited is actually pretty limited.

    • New account

      • new account + new prime trial actually

  • +1

Been smashing The Office on Prime Video. Oops.

  • I've been smashing Seinfeld…

    • Same here

    • +18

I've been smashing my head on my keyboard about not being able to buy from the US store.

      • A bit of a hassle but still possible. Just need to use a forwarder like myUS.com.

As you can get free shipping from Amazon to US address most of the time, you only pay for the S&H by the forwarder.

They will charge the GST as well though.

(I have not tried doing this yet)

    • It's on Stan for anyone who doesn't use Amazon Prime

    • But the WHOLE series is like $55 on DVD. I wouldn't pay a subscription for it after the free trial is over.

  • -2

how do you cancel your prime membership? it not as easy as canceling ebay plus ..

    • +2

It's actually easier IMO, all you need to do is go here and on the left hand side go cancel.

    • On top right corner, 'Hello <name> Your account - the dropdown have a option call 'Your Prime Membership'

Once you go to that page, on the the bottom of left menu, there is a link to cancel the membership.

Mine shows as 'End Trial and Benefits'

      • they way they wrote it, it seems if you click it, it will immediately end all the trial and benefit? so safe to wait until the last day then :(

        • +9

It doesn't end instantly, it ends one month after you signed up :) I cancelled day 1 and it says my benefits will last until July 17

  • I've tried using the Prime Reading and whenever I click on a book it says "The content isn't downloadable for your region." Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

    • I'm getting a similar issue when trying to watch videos that I can add to my watchlist through the app just fine. but then it won't play.
Both actions while i've got my amazon prime region set to america through getflix.

the same show isn't available when i have my prime region set to Australia though.

    • +2

Yes, you need to contact support (by chat). It's due to a glitch on your account which happens when you already have Amazon US. They fixed it for me within minutes.

  • Ugh, watched my first video yesterday!

  • does this stack with the $20 Amazon New User?

    • That expired last month AFAIK

    • sadly that's finished

      • do you know the link to that deal ? $20 for new users

  • +2

So what am I missing here?

    1. Sign up for Prime
    2. Stream a video
    3. Get $10 voucher
    4. Cancel Prime
    • "Steam a video" - hell yeah!

      • +12

        Its an Albany expression

    • -2

      missed one step…
      1…
      2…
      3 Get $10 voucher
4 Use voucher on Amazon with free prime 2 day delivery
      5. Cancel Prime

  • damn, i checked to see how good the UHD prime videos looked yesterday (not that impressed btw)

  • +2

They wouldn't have to bribe me to use it if they just supported Chromecast…

    • I struggled getting it to work with my phone an S7 Edge (an OzBargain purchase) and gave up. I could cast the sound but not the video when I used the Amazon App and tried to cast.

But I managed to cast from my chromebook (an OzBargain purchase) when using Chrome to access the Amazon Prime Video AU website (had to log in twice mind) and then selected the hamburger drop down menu (top right) and then selected "Cast…" - Bingo! Sound and Video successfully cast(ed).

Our main TV (another OzBargain purchase) is a Sony with an Amazon Prime app, but the TV in the bedroom is too old so we had to cast. Doubt I will keep my membership as there is not a lot to watch imo but its nice to know it can be done … have yet to see if the same technique works with the phone …

Did I mention my Chromecast is yet another OzBargain purchase?
No surpise given OzBargain is considered more popular to us Aussies than Seek. At least according to this site: https://www.alexa.com/topsites/countries/AU

    • They have FireTV instead

  • +1

do I have to watch the whole video, or I just need to hit the play button then stop

    • Yes.

      • Yes… what?

  • +1

Any minimum spend for the voucher?

  • +1

    what is this topbargain.com.au

  • thanks

  • +1

    Nice.

I used the trial for Prime to get a good deal on Crash Bandicoot Switch, saved 20 there.
Then I found out it gets you Twitch Prime, which gets you some stuff in Fortnite, so free shit there.
Now I'll get 10 bucks out of it, so 10 bucks there.
And my trial expires on July 19, Prime Day is 17th so I'll hopefully save some more there.

All in all, this Prime trial has worked out pretty nice for me, cheers OP and cheers Amazon.

  • I might be blind, but there isn't an expiry date is there?

    • There is now. Mine says 27th of July, not sure if that's because of when I got it.

  • So we've lost AMAZON20 but this is basically AMAZON10 (with no minimum spend) if you create a new account and use the free Prime Trial. Not bad!

    • There is a minimum spend of $20 by the way.

  • Do you have to sign up an account before the promo starts?

  • +1

Stream your first video next Monday-Sunday people!!! Conditions for the $10 voucher state:

"Prime members will get $10 in Amazon credit when they stream Prime Video for the first time between July 9 and 15."

    • +1

I wonder if what they really mean is "the first time you stream Prime Video after this date" rather than the first time ever.

Makes no sense to have an offer for trying a Prime benefit for the first time that's only available to Prime members.

Guess we'll see. I'm still salty at them for selling a 4K Blu-ray out from under me while it was in my cart ready for checkout ;)

  • +1

So I have like 5 Amazon accounts so if I sign up for Prime on all 5 accounts I'll get $10 credit for all 5? Lol
And can we wait until the 9th to sign up for Prime or do we sign up now?

    • I was wondering whether we could stack up voucher from multiple accounts for a single purchase

      • I have a $5 Amazon credit on my account from an error on their part and it says 'can not be transferred to other accounts' or something along those lines. So Im guessing no? Would be great though

  • I need to buy some books and was thinking of signing up to prime to save on shipping and buy them all in one go before the free trial ends.

Do you all think there will be a deal that trumps this $10 off deal and I should wait?

  • +1

    Great post OP, thanks.

  • +2

Reckon we have to finish the video?

  • +1
    • The $10 credit will expires at 11:59 PM AEST on July 27, 2018.

    Found on "additional terms".

    • Thanks, will include that now

  • Apocalypse Now isn't on their list, so I settled for the opening "funeral scene" from Godfather Part II.

  • +1

Giving it a shot but I'm sure I've used Prime Video before.

  • Damn it. Has to be sold by Amazon AU. :(

  • In case anyone is worried that you will have to finish whatever you start watching, the tick has episodes <30 minutes long.

    • +3

The Office (US) is 22min long :D

    • +6

      Gumby is 4 minutes long.

      • +8

Yeah but you aren't going to stop at one episode of Gumby…

  • +1

How do you even know if its worked lol?

    • it says will take a few days and credit will appear in your account.

  • hmmm, $10 voucher for watching a video… what to watch

    scrolling through movies
    .
    .
    .
    all men are pedophiles
    .
    .
    .
    that will do

    • Sure you weren’t on Twitter?

    • -1

Gay of Thrones sounded good at first but it just turned out to be recaps.

  • Has anyone received email confirmation $10 credit yet? I watched a movie for 5 mins now sure if it counts.

    • +1

Apparently you have to wait up to 3-4 days for them to apply the credit. I'm still waiting on it as well.

    • +3

      Still haven’t received anything

  • so credit should be spent before the 27th July? or is that the final date to redeem?

  • do you expect a kindle deal on the 16th prime day? what do you reckon?

  • +5

    Just got my coupon!

  • +2

Your $10 Amazon credit has been issued 👍

  • +2

Yeah me too, arrived this morning

  • +1

No luck for me then, must have already watched a Prime Video.

  • +3

Got my coupon and was able to use it on items in the "Save 20% when you spend $50 or more on select everyday essentials" category :)

  • +2

Mine has also arrived. Watched an episode of The Grand Tour a few hours after the promotion period started.

  • Got mine. Already spent it. Awesome

  • +2

Yeah got mine and spent it too. Just 5 mins watching a movie then wait for 3-4 days for the email about $10 credit to come and that's it. Good saving if you are buying something around $20.

  • How does Prime Video work? When you get the free trial and watch any video, do you pay? Then what do you use that $10 for?

  • Hmm I haven't got my credit and I watched a video on Monday

    • Nm apparently I do have it

  • What to buy?! Not sure… I am lost :)
Can anybody please recommend any decent bargains that will nicely offset the bonus $10 credit?

    Thanks

    • +2

wait for the 16th. could be better for you.

  • +2

Thanks so much doweyy, I received my voucher today! I love your Amazon posts! :)

  • Just received my $10 credit today, just in time for amazon fail prime.

  • I watched a video on 9/7, and received nothing so far, it didn't work for me.
