  • Is bitcoin mining still affecting GPU prices or have things settled down? Just curious what the state of things are.

    • +4

I doubt anyone is buying GPU's for mining anymore . It's no longer profitable unless you have access to very cheap/free power .
Not only that but ASICS are more efficient .

      • +1

        ^+1

From what I've read (I don't have mining experience myself, lol don't even have a discrete GPU..yet), ASICS are more efficient (although higher set up cost..?) however GPU mining may still be feasible depending on the cryptocurrency.

The ones that AMD GPUs mine on aren't as resilient as the nVidia GPU ones (???), and also Australian electricity cost is fairly expensive compared to the US, so GPU mining isn't so profitable currently in general. So yay GPU prices back to more normal.

        • Pretty much this. But it's not really profitable to mine on anything other than Vega cards right now.
There are asic miners for the "nvidia coins" as well.

    • +1

The reverse, cryptocurrency has tanked so far that second hand market is being flooded with mid range cards (prices down 30-40%), it's not really profitable anymore in most larger countries with reasonable power costs like the USA. Retailers are having to follow suit and slash prices to offload there own new stock (rx570 prices down from 350-400 at the start of the year to the prices seen in this deal)

    • Apparently there has been an uptick in mining, doubling since May! Link: https://www.ccn.com/bitcoin-hashpower-doubled-since-may-desp…

      • +1

        Not with video cards.

My guess China and they probably ordered a whole stack of ASICs while the boom was going to keep up now they have them it's not like they aren't going to use them.

I think it's still profitable for them because of scale and power is so cheap.

    • It's anticipation of the 2060, surely…

      • dont think so, wont be out for a while

  • How much difference in performance can you expect between 4gb rx570 and 8gb rx570?

    • +1

It really depends on whether the game chews more than 4GB or not.

If it doesn't, the two memory configurations should perform very similar if not the same.

But if it just eats beyond 4GB (I saw a youtube video trying to run SCUM on a RX570 4GB, the stuttering would be very apparent), then the 8GB is more like essential to run.

    • +3

None unless the card is hitting VRAM limits which would only happen in a few select titles and usually only when you're running ultra presets.

      • +3

        Or high resolution/multi monitor

        • +2

          Probably shouldn't buy a low-mid GPU if you're running above 1080p.

  • Code not working

    • +4

You need to have eBay Plus.

  • Is this better than my current Gigabyte 1060 3gb?

    • For some reason AMD always marks their graphics to be higher than nVidia equivalent. Eg. so 550 = 1030, 560 = 1050, 570 = 1060…

    • +1

Almost as good, if you want head to head rx580 will match or beat 1060

    • +3

It is not. The rx 580 is the card to compare to the 1060. Your 1060 provides adequately better performance than the 570.

      • +2

With the 3gb version it likely would, thanks to this 570 having more VRAM. 3gb doesn't really cut it in AAA games today.

    • +1

i wouldn't go buy this if you have a 1060 already, if you're running out of vram then yea it might be a good option but otherwise keep the 1060.

    • -2

Depends on the game but I'd say it's 10-20% in most cases. 570 is closer to a 1060 6GB and even beating that in some cases (DX12 games). I wouldn't upgrade to it though, the difference is negligible overall.

    • Not at all and I don't' see why'd you would downgrade to this unless you need something like FreeSync.

  • +1

Hold on, with these OEM Packed GPUs, do we still get the AMD Raise the Game codes?
and why the 3 months warranty?

    Anyone can shed some light?

    • +3

Sold for mining use. Plain box packaging no accessories. You can watch this video to get an idea of how little packaging they normally come in (basically just a anti-static bag and some bubble wrap)

Since miners generally run their GPU's 24 hours a day non-stop, the manufacturer only promises 3 months worth of warranty.

As for the Raise the Game promotion, you will need to email the seller to obtain the code. There never were any prints of the code to begin with because the RTG promotion has only just launched.

      • Thank you scrimshaw!

  • +3

    Thanks OP

I missed the other deal at $228.00 and was kicking myself as it is my sons birthday soon and he is just rocking a GTX660 (2Gb) so this should keep him cussing and swearing until late into the night.

    • +5

this should keep him cussing and swearing until late into the night.

      Username doesn't correlate lol

      • +1

It does when you realise that the Sainter relates to St Kilda Football Club - cussing and swearing is a way of life for us!

    • username checks out

  • +1

price increased to $255 with code :/

    • +2

Down again, after refreshing the page.

      • +1

wow they really did put it back down.
        thanks for offer :D

  • I'd normally research before buying a new card but this looks like it might be over soon. Would I expect performance increase over a GeForce GTX 960 4Gb? Any estimates as to how much?

  • +1

    Not sure about 3mths warranty!

    • We live in Australia. Our consumer laws will side with you if it dies within 2 years. Any product we buy must have a reasonable life span, and even in the world of PC components, having it die in 3 months is not reasonable

  • Just bought it,

    Wish me luck, 1440P BF1

  • Son of a b%@# I just bought the 4GB one yesterday! FFFFFUUUUU@#@#!@!$

    • its ok, you have longer warranty. This is just 3 months

      • Oh thanks for that. But still extra 4GB for just another $4 :(

      • +1

I just got a message from techfastau saying the RX570 is out of stock and that they're going to upgrade me to the ROG Strix for free. Am I getting gypped or is that a better card?

        • +2

          Strix is the best 570.

        • +1

@Yuri Lowell: excellent I just told them to ship it :)

        • +2

@SydneySurvivor: No worries. I bought one the other week and have been thoroughly impressed by it. It's on par with a reference RX 580/1060 6GB with the factory overclock based on the benchmarks I've run. I've heard there isn't that much more overclocking headroom but I'm satisfied with the performance as it is so probably won't bother. Doesn't go over 70C and nearly silent in my machine.

        • +2

Congrats, I intentionally ordered that card, it's only a few dollars more after discount, I would prefer to buy that anyway, hope you enjoy your purchase. EDIT: And don't worry about the 4GB of VRAM, if you need that much, go for a 1060 6GB or a RX 580 8GB, 570 with 4GB is perfect, it's a medium 1080p/ low 1440p card, most games don't really seem to use more than 4GB, especially at lower resolutions.

        • @conza: One upcoming exception to the rule: Forza Horizon 4. The game is very well optimised, runs great on my R9 290X 4GB (far better than FH3 ever did), but while my card (and by proxy an RX 570 or 580) has the raw horsepower to run FH4 at ultra details, 4GB of RAM just isn't enough to satisfy the memory requirements of the game at the ultra preset. The framerate drops from well over 60 down into the mid 30s-40s for me using the benchmark in the demo, and VRAM allocation is over the reported maximum. An 8GB card (290X/390X 8GB, RX 570/580 8GB) would have no such problems.

It's not really an issue per se, but an 8GB card of this kind of performance will likely age a little more gracefully than a similar card with half the VRAM if games continue to become more and more memory intensive. Not a deal-breaker by any means, just turn the preset down one notch or turn down some memory intensive settings, but something to keep in mind.

        • +1

@tmr3: I didn't experience that. I played the demo for a couple of hours and noticed no issues on my 570 4GB. The benchmark at ultra preset 1080p was 78fps with around 3.5GB/4GB VRAM usage. It may be an issue at 1440p though but 1080p seems to be fine at ultra.

  • +1

What kind of IO does it have since I remember a lot of these mining cards had limited IO

    EDIT: My bad couldn't read

  • +2

570 is a beast, my 4gb hits 200+ fps in overwatch all settings medium/high

  • +3

Finally jumped & bought one. Cheers OP

TechFast Has a Strix RX 570 that turned out to be $203.15, just purchased it yesterday, 0 regrets, glad to see this isn't $170-180

  • +1

Bit the bullet.. bargain.. pardon the pun… Should be a nice upgrade from a GTX 570… only slightly ancient. :)

  • +1

Ordered yesterday, delivered to far south coast NSW today. Pretty good service

  • Already received this morning

  • For those who have received this card, being a mining card in OEM packaging, have you noticed anything different about these cards? eg card locked to settings optimised for mining, anything missing that you would normally expect to be included (other than packaging and back plate)? This is tempting with 10% off site wide + 10% less with gift cards, but wondering if this card essentially operates just like a retail rx570.
