Woolies/Coles don't qualify for Shop Small

      • +3

Do they qualify for Shop Big?

  • 5 participating retailers only? So the max per AMEX card is $50 for the whole month?

    • +3

      Correct.

    • per card

  • same shop ok?

    • If you have different card numbers

    • Earn $10 statement credits from up to 5 different participating small businesses when you spend $20 in a single transaction between 1st - 30th November 2018

      • I only just noticed the word "different". I was thinking of going down to my local pub which has joined the Shop Small program this year and get $50 of free drinks, but looks like i'll have to bar hop!

  • +1

I tried to sign up many times this morning, keeps getting this system error message. Anyone on the same boat?

    • What is the error message? Registration is capped to 130,000 cards - maybe it's fully subscribed?

    • Had an error message (more a timeout) when I tried from my work PC in the morning but worked from my iPhone 30 seconds later.

  • wonder if any servos on the map? i cant seem to find any. i'd like some some cheap petrol specially with the current petrol prices so high

  • Does anyone know if Event Cinemas are included?

I thought I used them last year..
Maybe they have a different trading name? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance

    • +1

They are way too big for Shop Small. The answer is no

      • Thanks. Must have been another offer around the same time then. I remember getting the teachers gift cards and got money back.

  • Registered all of my six cards, thanks OP

  • My local Mitre 10 is listed as one of the retailers, now what tools shall I get?

  • Can deals be combined?
I have registered for Shop Small and also for the Toscano offer, which is spend $50 get $15 credit. Would a spend of $50 in early November earn me credit of $10 for Shop Small and a further $15 credit for the Toscano offer?

    • +1

If the Toscano store you go to appears on the Small Shop map, then yes - judging from past experience, when a purchase met requirements of both offers.

    • Yes. Worked for me with 2 David Jones offers.

    • Shopped at Toscano's and received emails from both offer, 50% off vegetables and gourmet bread and deli items.

  • Does anyone know if we are able to stack the Toscano's offer? So spend $50 get $15 back and also get $10 back (shop small), meaning that it would be pretty much 50% off everything in store?

    • +1

I don’t see why not and good potential find for us Victorians. Need to double check to see if there is some sort of only one offer st a time sort of condition applies though.

  • Got a "System currently unavailable or Please check the URL and try again"

  • +1

am surprised that Oz bargainers haven't already maxed out the signs ups since there is no longer any limit on the number of amex cards you can have (used to be 5!)

    • -2

Are you telling me I now can potentially open more secondary accounts?

      IE: 1primary and 8supps?

I need to catch up on some reading

    • Is this explicitly stated/advertised anywhere?

  • Sorry noob question. I requested Amex Essential secondary cardholder for Mrs X and activated it a week ago. How come when I logged on to amex using secondary cardholder account (Mrs X) I do not see any amex offers? I can see Shop Small offer when I logon as primary cardholder

    • +2

Yeah, some of my supp cards were also not showing the Shopsmall offer. But not a biggie, just use the manual link in the OP's post above and register that way. You should then see the offer appear under the Saved Offers section when you next login.

    • New cards sometimes take a while to propagate through their offers system.

  • Not sure if I have registered too late

Do you get an email confirmation?

    • +1

Yes if you did it via the manual link, no if you used the Amex app and accepted the offer that way (you will see what you have accepted in the APP). If in doubt, manually register again and it will either tell you that you have already registered or actually register you.

      • Thanks!!

Just answering my own question, it has come through. Just took 30 minutes or so

  • Reckon it can be stacked with this offer?
$15+$10 off $50 spend is half price which makes it very decent.

  • I don't see many convenience store listed in Sydney CBD to top up Opal…

    • Probably got removed

    • So are there any you know of? Or better yet any in North Sydney? :)

    • Probably had people complain to AMEX about the various surcharges with AMEX payment so they were removed

    • I agree. not as many as last year. I am sure there are at least 5 to do the opal run.

      • I couldn't find any.. none of the ones listed in previous years are on the map this year :( Hope I'm wrong

  • -1

Must wait till tomorrow for use

Tried it on Monday and no cashback. Wasted my $25

    • +5

Signups didn't even start 'til yesterday. Hope you bought something good.

      • +1

        Haha this is gold.

      • +2

Signed up my 7 cards and can't wait to spend.

        And epic fail

    • Lemme guess, you spent it on beer?

  • Does anyone know if this offer is valid if I use Google pay with my Amex card? Thanks

    • Yes valid

Anyone who can assist with a large json to csv conversion, pm me. I decided to give it a crack so people can have something until that guy who normally posts the csv files does it.

  • Merged from AmEx Shop Small - Fuel Outlets under The Promo in Sydney?

    Hi,

I wonder if any one is aware of any gas stations under Amex ShopSmall promo in East or West Sydney?

Searched in forum but couldn't find any thing, maybe didn't look hard enough.

    • +1

There hasn't been a single fuel outlet for a year or two now.

  • +3

    Where is our saviour Thyzdik?

    • He did not even leave a comment in this topic, seemingly disappearing.

      • +1

I just checked him up. He was last seen on ozbargain 5 hours ago. Maybe we should just PM him to come to the party :)

        • +2

          Already did yesterday, no reply:)

  • +2

Oh dang Ippudo ramen is no longer a shop small merchant

    • It was still there yesterday when I searched the map last night :(

    • It’s there if you search for Chatswood.

      • It is there again, I just checked.

        • The Westfield Sydney one doesn't seem to be listed, only the other ones

          • @kerfuffle: Is it still there? I just looped through all the dining ones in Chatswood and nothing. and searching for Ippudo doesn't work either.

            • @YadaYadaYada: I saw results for Chatswood, Chippendale and Macquarie Park, but nothing for Sydney

              • @kerfuffle: What did you type in? I must be missing something….

                • +1

@YadaYadaYada: Untick the Shop Small Map checkbox in the filter as it keeps locking onto your location if you don't

                  • +1

@kerfuffle: Ah that did the trick! Thanks :)

                    • @YadaYadaYada: I lied! I didn't realise the Shop Small button was missing! :(

To clarify: All Ippudo stores in Australia are NOT participating in Shop Small this year :(

    • cant find ippudo in QV melbourne…

      • If memory serves me correct, Ippudo in Melbourne doesn't even have AMEX last time I checked

        • Ippudo in Macquarie at least has started putting surcharge on ALL cc trans

          • @cwongtech: Same with Westfield Sydney; lame considering that it wasn't there from the very beginning.

        • yeah i think you're right, I had to use visa last time iirc

      • It's on the map; look for Ippudo QV and uncheck the Shop Small Map checkbox in the filter

        • ahh, but then its not shop small so no point

          • @Bloodfart: Ah I only just realised what you meant! No Ippudo this year :(

            • +1

@kerfuffle: Ippudo used to be no surcharge. Recently they started charging surcharge for all kinds of cards. I eat there a lot less now.

  • +1

Looks like you can still register cards. Recall last year it was max out after 12 hours. With all these extra supp cards you would've thought it would've been maxed even sooner.

    • i think its 100k every year and its 130k this year.

    • +1

Don't forget a number of CBA issued cards can't participate so that might have an effect as well.

    • Don't forget that most of the major banks dropped their Amex card products and not many people in general do the multiple (>2) supplementary card thing.

      • +1

But those random Amex 3/5k MR points bonus for new supps would’ve driven some people to signup more cards. I think when their checking was a little stringent, someone on a forum claims to have got a card issues to their dog.

      • Don't forget that most of the major banks dropped their Amex card products and not many people in general do the multiple (>2) supplementary card thing.

Pretty sure you and I both don't have stats on this but I would actually suspect that it's not uncommon to have 3 or more supplementary cards.

How do we define "uncommon"? Hmm.. I'll just take a random punt and say 15% or more of the Ozbargain population have more than 2 supp cards.

  • Oh, 7eleven is no longer on the map. They have removed all 7eleven merchant stores located in Sydney. Let me know if I am wrong.

    • +1

      Check the filtering.

    • I'm surprised they were even there at all

Considering their sheer size, they're one of the last merchants I'd expect to see on Shop Small

  • maps seems to be not working must be everyone here checking out what's on offer! anyone find a way to get the data without going through this map?

  • +2

For all of you doing Myki & Opal top ups, let us know your how you go including what surcharges the retailer is tacking on. I'll update the Myki and Opal section of the wiki as well as update the Google Maps (Myki, Opal).

I'm going to give the usual 3 Fitzroy locations a go tonight (Thursday). (Only Gertrude St. Mini Mart is on Amex's map).

    • Sure Neil.

For Sydney, all city convenience and Ezymart stores have been removed. There are a few privately operated newsagents or convenience stores on the map

      • spk, I just checked the map, they are still about at least 20 convenience stores in Sydney city, enrough to get opal top up.

        • As mentioned earlier, “Coty convenience” and “Ezymart” franchise stores have been removed.. although there are other convenience stores listed

    • Thanks Neil, On the opal map, are the green ticks confirmed locations that accept Opal and the orange not yet confirmed? Sorry can’t seem to find a legend on the map. TIA

      • Legend is on the left. Green ticks from 2017 confirmed by members, yellow ticks confirmed in 2016 by members but no info about 2017. If you click the tick, it will take you to the comment of the confirmation.

So I'll change it to 2018 green, 2017 yellow once we've got people testing locations.

      Hi neil,

"Wines on Poath" in Hughesdale is surprisingly listed on the PTV site as providing myki top-ups, as well as being on the Shop Small map. Unsure of any surcharges however.

Edit: I'll give it a go today and report back.

  • I can’t get maps to work. Anyone else?

  • With Myki top ups, do you purchase Myki pass or Myki money? You can't seem to buy Myki pass using Myki money.

    • UPDATE: Called them about this and was told that its possible at a manned station if you have enough Myki balance on your account.

  • Just tried topping up Opal at 327-329 George St City Convinience (The only City Convinience store listed in Sydney CBD it seems). Guy tried charging me a $1 surcharge without saying anything. When he typed in $21 on the machine and I questioned him he said that's the standard surcharge for card payment (he didn't know that I was going to use AMEX even). I politely refused and left

    • +5

Report him. It doesn't cost him $1 per card transaction and $1 is the equivalent of a 5% surcharge which is much higher than what banks charge. New laws aim to preveny this bs.
