Note the following $400 doesn't include 13, 1300, 1800 numbers. (last time I checked this wasn't clearly stated on their website)

BRB: I'll edit this post with everything liveconnected catch you out.

In the end this is still a great deal.

    • -1

that will be good mate.I couldn't find anything abt international calling…did u guys see anything?

      • +2

International Calling isn't included. I am unaware of the rates, they haven't made this clear either.

        • thats no good. Hope "liveconntected" can answer this

        • +1

          Toshi

Answer what? International SMS and MMS are included.
          International calls are NOT included.

        • doowhydiddi: thank you…i did find the rates, but we need to pay extra for calling or will it be part of the cap?

          ozhunter: thank you

    • +2

Re the international calling - no its not part of the cap included value.
Seriously for $10.99 for $400 + 1GB its going to be pretty hard to squeeze in international.

      • -7

        You should give more choices.
I rather spend on International call than 1GB.

        • Try Rebtel for the international calls. Quality is OK, price decent too. Numbers are "local" numbers

  • -3

This looks very good i might sign up to this

    • -1

i might too :) - just wait for more comments

      • +6

So why did you neg then?

        • +2

          there was many unaswered questions

  • +5

What is with Optus based plans and ridiculous excess charges for data. $450 per gigabyte if you go over your limit??? Even Telstra isn't that bad.

    • +2

If this plan was pre-paid it would be brilliant.
As a plan with essentially open right to rape your bank account and $450/Gb data charges I can't possibly give it enough negs.

      • +2

But why would you spend so much time using the internet on your phone (not via wifi) when you have (assuming) broadband at home on your computer? O.o
Perhaps this deal is good for people who are responsible and in-control with their credit…

        • +6

Do agree the 45c per MB is bit high, and unfortunately its the cost we incur. But in saying this there are 2 things we've done:
          1) The usage meter actually tallies up your data for you and its pretty easy to use. Basically enter in your email & password and the usage is presented to you graphically.
          2) There's also notifications to let you know when you're 80 & 90%
          3) We bill per KB. If you look at a lot of the other plans out there data is billed per 100KB or per MB.

    • I agree, Virgin's excess data charges are the worst. 3 is 50c/mb for excess usage. Virgin's is 2c/kb.

      • +11

        1GB at $0.50/MB = $512
        1GB at $0.02/KB = $21,000

        • +1

          EPIC calculation lol

        • Who would go over a gig on their phone. I get 1.5GB and I struggle. Its a phone. That being said I have 1TB at home and heaps at uni which I use as well.

      • Virgin is 0.2c a kb
        Which is 204.80c a Mb

    • +1

Optus prepaid is $1.32 per 1MB for Zoo Browsing & Internet. :| $1320 per gigabyte, if I read it right.

      • I thought browsing the zoo didn't count towards your data limit?

        • I just copied and pasted from the Optus prepaid page- http://tinyurl.com/5spzglr
Seems to be the same for Turbo charge too.
Im too scared to check whether it does or not :S

  • This actually is pretty good.
    My contract is ending and I was looking at the TPG's $10 for $125 + 125(TPG) + 250mb plan.

But can anyone comment on the network's reliability?

    • Network reliability should be the same, the both on the Optus Network.

      • +1

In other words, very hit or miss.

Can't hold a stable 3G connection at my house but max out 2G (but only 12km from Melb CBD). Wish Optus would upgrade their network. Certainly won't be getting a smart phone with them, but for anything else it is pretty good value.

        • how about the network around melbourne (country)! I'm with 3 and will be on roaming most of the time outside melbourne. And roaming data is not included in most of the plans!!

  • The current cost is $10/month is this an introductory offer or will the price remain at $10/month indefinitely? Also I'm already on Liveconnected how do I go about upgrading to this plan?

    • I'm a current customer and will like to upgrade to this plan too. Is this possible?

    • -7

Says "Minimum total each following month - $10.99". Note: 12 month contract

      • Where does it say that? Also in the title of this bargain it states clearly there is no contract.

      • +1

That implies >$10.99 per month, which means they can charge the full $29 per month down the track.

I'm interested in applying but don't want to get caught out by anything like this - if it's going to be $10.99 each month then it's a pretty good deal.

        • +1

Hi - Definitely not a contracted plan.

        • +2

answer his concern rep, why are you being so cagey? who would be mental enough to sign up to a virtually unlimited monthly charge?

        • +2

Every carrier lists in the fine print as "On $xx cap minimum charge of $xx per month" This is because you can either go over your monthly cap or incur additional costs that aren't included (eg international or excess data). It isn't some unscrupulous plan to change the price month to month. If they are going to increase the cost of the plan and therefore leave you worse off, they must give 4 weeks (30 days) notice and allow discussion of potential solutions.

        • /removed

  • will there be a 24*7 support available? wat is contact num?

    • +1

They only offer email support. Response time can be up to 48 hours. Sometimes I've experienced longer. Generally 24 hours though.

    • Hi - no dial in number, we're online only.

The self-service portal is obviously open 24/7.
As dmc900 says quite accurately - usual turnaround time with resolution is within 24 hours. So basically if there's an issue post it and for complex ones it'll be resolved within the day.

      • edit*
Just to be upfront, if call centre based service is something you're after, we really aren't for you.
But thanks for checking out our offers.
  • Can I upgrade my current plan with liveconnected to this current offer?

    • Hi don't know which one you're on. Drop us a note through the self-service portal can double check for you.

      • +1

I also want to upgrade from my current plan but can you confirm that the price will remain at $10/month for the foreseeable future and will not increase to $30/month any time soon?

  • -3

I would like to know what you mean by "Minimum Charge per month $10.99" ?? Does that mean if we go over $400 we get charged more or does it mean something else??

    • +1

      isnt that given?

      • -1

Which is given? Lazer has asked two questions here.

      • Just like to get confirmation before signing up so I know what I'm in for don't want it reverting to $29 a month for some reason which is the plans full price…

        • Just noticed there is a cheaper plan also for $4.99 which would suit me better :) http://www.liveconnected.me/index.php/sim-only/discovery-ser…

        • +2

min charge is even you decided to rest you phone this month you still have to pay its monthly access fee. and if you only used, $9.99 you still have to pay $10.99 which part is confusing?

and of coz if it more than the credit, you meant to pay the difference by much you go over your $400

    • +1

If you go over the $400 limit you will get charged extra as well as if you go over the 1GB limit, or if you make 1300 or 1800 calls as well as International calls or if you get premium sms's or stuff like that you will get charged more than the $10.99

  • For a very limited time the Discovery 29 is on $10.99 per month!
$400 talk and text to anyone
    $400 talk to Live Connected
    1 GB of included data
    Month to month contract
    Change plan to suit you

seems like no contract, by definition of month to month?

  • I use this company, they are legit and sim is from Optus, great value for money

  • If we sign up to this deal does it revert back to $29 at any time?

    • i dont think so…hence ONLY this weekend. i hope this is for life!!!

      • yea thought so but was just wondering if it was for a specific period eg 12 months. Would be nice if the REP cleared this up!

        • +1

          Hi Random

It basically keeps running at the promo price.

If, and I stress if, there is a price change, you're given atleast 30 days notice first, so you've got time to cancel or port out and there's no cancellation fee.
So its in our best interest to keep the price going at $10.99

  • THANKS LIVECONNECTED….hot deal just in time!!!

my optus contract should be finishing on the 24th and i just called them and they said i am free to port out!!! Thanks optus too tho they said there would be about 8 bucks port out feee but WHATEVER…

$11 dollars for a $49cap yes plan ( my plan for past 4 years) WHY THINK GUYS…JUST DO IT!! and month to month is just EXCELLENT!

    • -4

$49 cap plans usually include 13/1300/1800 numbers. This doesn't.

      • +5

So you would rather pay an extra $38 just so you can call 13/1300/1800 numbers?
        O.o

        • Well on this plan you would only have to make about half an hours' worth of calls to those numbers and you'd be up for that much already.

Also, a lot of other $49 caps include international calls.

        • +4

Perhaps its just one of those deals that doesn't float everyones boat, doesnt tickle everyones pickle or humps everyones camel. I dont intend on calling those numbers and making international calls with my mobile, so for that price, compared to my current Optus prepaid rates, seems to float my boat well.

Though Im still wondering whether they will revert the special price back to original price in the coming months. So I wont (+) yet.

      • +1

Then it's not for you, doesn't mean its not a good deal.

      • nop NOT MY optus plan…hence i have to pay alot more with optus. I even try the ppl on the phone to march this deal so i will stay with optus but the most they can do is to give me 10bucks off every month for 10 months over my 24 months contract. I just rejected that deal.

not going to stay with them anymore…

edit: when you said ALOT OF 49cap include international. SO far only virgin(optus) or the vodafail (crazy johns, 3, vodafone) trust me other than virgin was barely good value.vodafone network is the biggest fail. my friends said my phone is outta reach for whole day but i was sitting at home with full bar. Now i need to wait till my vodafone contract finish and hope liveconnected has another deal/// END OF THIS YR well nov to be exact

  • +5

My wife and I are on this deal and its really very good.
It's $10.99 per month post paid month by month.
You get $400 call to anyone and $400 to other on live connected. For us, thats pretty much a set and forget amount. Ok, Ok I do check in with the usage meter thing a couple of times a month and the cap calls per minute are similarly priced to Virgin etc to make the whole thing appear massive IE ~90c per minute, but am in no danger of maxing it out.

The only pitfalls I know of are:

-Optus 3G data has become very flaky over the past few months but that the same whether you use these guys, Virgin or any of the other re-sellers.
-1300, 13, 1800 numbers are NOT included. They used to be in the old deals but they pulled them out before launching the current series.
-Not sure about the status of overseas calls. Their rates to major countries look pretty decent but whether they come out of the cap or not, don't know
    . http://liveconnected.me/index.php/sim-only/international-rat…

Overall, you will get sent an Optus branded sim and can pretty much sit back and go for it.
Lots and lots of call value vs dollar here.

  • This is great (seems) Ive just ordered!

    • Did you get a confirmation email or anything??

      • Folks order processing is closed over the weekend, so you'll start getting the confirmation emails late Sunday, Monday.

  • Rep, or anyone who knows, can you keep your existing number for free? Im with Optus prepaid at the mo anyway and since this is Optus based…

    • +1

yea they just port it over, it's the first step when you sign up, as far as i'm aware there is no cost for this from optus or liveconnected.

  • Is the discovery 19 also no contract for this weekend?

  • I hate how it takes so much effort to see how much you've used during the month. They should make an app for it.

    • They replaced the retarded Utiliy bill list thing with a graphical meter some time back.
I just bookmarked it in Firefox and check in when needed… pretty easy.
Have to admit the website is pretty clunky, but getting better.

    • I picked up the Garmin A50 recently and it included an Optus billing app… I just open it and it refreshes with my usage to date.

    • uraha - try the new usage portal - navigate to My Account > Usage Meter. You should also be receiving a mid month usage snapshot soon anyway.

  • -6

It is a trap. The $10.99/month is meaningless when hidden exclusions can easily give you a $100 or more bill. 90c/min is no bargain. Deceptive.

    • -1

Hidden exclusions? Did you read the T&C? It lists them there.

      • +2

Just need to read the conditions once and remember them.

For normal calling its a great deal.
Yes, 1300 number etc are not included but apart from that it's your standard Telco BS. What I mean is watch out for roaming, going over your data limit etc, pretty normal.
For regular day to day calling of other mobiles and landlines this deal is excellent.

        "It's a trap" …. jeeez (eye roll)…

        • What are romaing charges? I've been on optus plan before but never encountered any roaming charges? Do you mean when travelling overseas?

Thanks CG - didn't know how to reply to your reply. I hope there's noting like that with these plans, but i'm sure someone would have mentioned it? I've heard someone complain about the 3 data roaming before - sounds terrible!

        • I think he/she means data roaming? Then again I don't think there is such thing as roaming for Optus. I know 3 Mobile roams to Telstra when 3 is not available and there are high charges if you use data while roaming.

      • +2

Yes. Something that will make the bill several to many times higher for a typical user should not be hidden in the fine print. This is not a minor detail.

  • What King Tightarse has said is pretty much spot on.
I'm another with flakey 3G data.
The newer usage meter is great, and for the first time, i got a mid billing cycle status email yesterday showing how much usage i've used which i thought was fantastic idea.

    • Cool :) The development team will be happy. We had to keep formatting to a minimal (i.e. text only) just to make sure it works no matter what email client someone's using.

  • -5

Very deceptive. "No contract" is a blatant lie when you pay $10.99 but you are obliged to pay $450 if you go 1Gb over your pre-determined allowance. This is only 'no contract' if prepaid. Otherwise it just means month-to-month contract, no 12/24-month lock-in.

    • +2

Isn't that obvious? Of course if you go over your limit or use sevices which aren't included, you have to pay excess charges.

    • +1

why would you go 1gb over your pre determined allowance on a phone?

    • +2

It's the same with Optus themselves, except Optus charge 50c/MB when you go over your included data allowance =/

Your negging over semantics rather than on whether the deal is good or not. By all means raise potential concerns and issues, but vote on the value of the deal please.

      • -4

High excess data charges ARE part of the deal, so he IS in fact voting on the value of the deal.

It's not just semantics, it's actually listed on the plan summary page:
        http://www.liveconnected.me/index.php/sim-only/discovery-ser…
        Under "Call rates":
        Excess data usage: 45c/MB

        • +1

Semantics in reference to the no contract vs. month to month contract.

  • +4

Is every one high today or something//// ;p

  • -1

Deceptive bargain. Despite the no contract mentioned, i could never sign up for LiveConnected plans as i'm an international student and LC always turns me down flat saying i failed my credit check. But Optus took me up on a $49 bucks 24 month plan which i'm done with last month and i'm rolling on it month to month now.

    • +3

i suppose you represent a greater risk which bigger companies like Optus can afford to gamble on, while LC cannot.

      • well said venu7. hfhf does not understand the concept of running a small business compared to a large enterprise.

        • +1

The problem isn't with whether i am a greater risk to LC. Liveconnected had refused to even proceed with further credit check/investigation beyond the preliminary credit check (unlike TPG). I am backed with sufficient funding and in the process of applying for permanent residence here. I have a job and a permanent home/address as well.

Rather, the whole point of my complain is that, if i am willing and able to prove my credit record, why is liveconnected unwilling to proceed further and simply reply with a generic email declining me? Bad customer service? You figure.

      • +1

The $49 plan obviously comes with the phone, much greater risk for Optus. What is the risk for LC apart from the unpaid monthly bill?

        • Exactly, and it could be a $900 iPhone.

Liveconnected have the $20 deposit for that purpose. So what risk?

        • +1

Who knows? It seems to me that the risk of me defaulting on a 23 months x $49 + a $1000 iPhone is much larger than defaulting on a $10.99/mth no contract plan, unless they had all along been cashing in on unsuspecting customer exceeding the monthly quota and slapped with huge bills.

What needs to be in the thread title is: Mobile Cap:$10.99/mth for $400 Talk&Txt to Anyone, Bonus 1GB data.No Contract, Free SIM&Shipping, Only for Australians or permanent residents.

        • Only for Australians or permanent residents, AND must have driving license and credit card

They all could be mentioned in the description, instead of just one liner "For this weekend we've reduced the prices across our SIM only caps." e.g:
          - $20 once off deposit (may be refundable)
          - 13, 1300, 1800 numbers and international calls not included in the cap, and the rate is quite high
          - How much value does $400 give you? etc..
