This is pretty great deal. Remember you may be able to price match in the Apple Store itself too if you want to buy it direct from them.

Also, additional 5% off with corporate savings egift cards.

If this deal is not for you, there is no need to troll or thread spoil.

    • -3

      or thread spoil.

You fail to understand the purpose of the Comments section. Comments aren't just for fanboys.

      • +22

They are also not for commenting about a product you have no interest in. If your only issue is price for the goods then assume you’ve made your point, which you have every time an Apple phone is posted, and we can all move on.

          • +8

@jv: You want a rule for common sense ?

            • @Fancydancer:

a rule for common sense ?

Common sense is that everyone has the right to comment their opinions on a post as long as they are not attacking other OzBargainers. Everyone has different opinions, the comments section is not just for fanboys.

        • -7

which you have every time an Apple phone is posted

Now, now… No need to resort to making stuff up to make a point…

You fail to understand the purpose of the Comments section.

jv lecturing people about what is appropriate for the comments section and accusing people of making stuff up… my head is at risk of exploding trying to cope with the overwhelming levels of hypocrisy.

As for relying upon evidence to make a point, maybe you should heed your own advice, jv, and pay attention to the commenting guidelines:
The intent of comments is to help inform members about the bargain, be it issues, points of clarification alternative offerings etc. Excessive ramblings reduce the visibility of these points…

@jv: jv - give it up and look at your downvotes. We are so sick of your negative comments on deals when you aren't, in the least bit, interested in them. Just take it as read I'm downvoting those sort of comments from you, in the future.

@jv: Yup, now go out and show me where I've made ALL the derogatory comments about Android deals. Really wondering what "pot" you might be looking at there. However, engaging in comments with you is pretty much pointless so say whatever you want but be aware that, given your downvotes, there aren't a lot of people who agree with you.

comments that have nothing to do with the deal

You started this, and you do it all the time. Nearly 60,000 comments on one website (not including however many you had on Whirlpool before they banned you) and so many of them have received lots of negative votes, been hidden as off-topic or deleted due to breaching the rules (at times leading to temporary bans). You can see that so many of us are sick of it yet you continue.

            directed at attacking other members

You always pull this sooky card. You get called out on facts and then accuse people of attacking you and you call them 'pot'. You just can't handle the truth.

            yep, I can see that…
You clearly can't, otherwise you would have stopped by now. Quit while you are behind.

I used to work there. Price-matching at an Apple Store for iPhone (and most iDevices) is usually a no-go. Even corporate/business customers don't get much leeway unless they're buying a hefty amount of them.

Macs are a different story though and you can easily get 10% off.

  • +1

    Max 512GB is cheaper here

  • I got the 64gb for $1295 at OW from price beating Phonebot.

    • +1

You got lucky, the last time I tried to Pricebeat from OW, they said the competitor for Apple products has to be Apple authorised reseller. I gave up after a lengthy argument.

  • I wish there is a 32gb one but much cheaper. Everything has to backup to icloud anyway

    • +1

Eh there's a 64gb, a 32gb would only be marginally cheaper and likely sell very poorly.

  • +12

    Wow… Just $2k for a smartphone. :)

    • +5

The new model is only around 5 months away…

      • The new model starts from $4k :)

        • $USD

  • +1

😲 This must be one of the best prices in the world especially considering Australian warranty. The AUD is really struggling.

    • Apple usually only adjust pricing to take into account currency fluctuation when a new model is released. I can think of one time they bumped prices up in about 2014 mid-cycle and Good Guys hadn't adjusted their price the next day and got rushed with iPhone orders.

  • +1

Pity 64GB or 256GB isn't down in price

  • -1

The question is, do i get this or the Samsung S10?

    • -8

If you want reliability and unparalleled software support, definitely the iPhone

      • +2

Possible sarcasm detected. Further analysis needed.

Trolling in the comments section is against the rules of ozbargain

        • +2

Not trolling just being honest. Had android phones for 7 years up to Nexus 6P days until I made the switch and haven’t looked back since. Don’t get me wrong I never hated any android phones I had. But I feel that iPhone offers a more refined mobile phone experience.

      • +2

Not sure why you're being negged. Android phones shit themselves after 2 years. Happened to both my s8 and s7.

        • I'm still running my S7 Edge fine, maybe your issue is user fault? Do Apple still send out updates that deliberately slow down devices 2 or more years old?

          • @Joey Jo Jo: Maybe you need to do some reading as to why Apple slowed them down; it was trying to stop the devices actually tripping out because of marginal batteries; there real problem was not communicating why they were doing it. My experience is that Android devices just let the phone reset. However, my iPhone 6 plus is still going great guns - in fact the latest versions of the IOS have actually sped the little beastie up. Then again, the battery upgrade only cost me $49 so mine is running on full juice at the moment.

            • +2

@try2bhelpful: Sounds great, get your phone slowed down deliberately via an update. I have an iPhone 6 I use as a GPS. Doesn't last an hour running Google maps from a full charge. Battery health reports at 96% good. In my experience iPhone users would eat a rotting animal corpse from the side of the highway and tell you it tastes great.

              • +1

@Joey Jo Jo: You want to cite some proof as to your last statement; doesn't sound plausible to me but maybe you just hang around with a different crowd. Did you take the opportunity to update the battery on your phone when you could do it cheaply? I don't use my phone for Google maps, so I can't do the comparison, to yours. I have also had trouble finding a website that will show a direct comparison between Google battery time for iPhones and Android devices and how that works for phones that are, now, 4 years beyond their release date. You might want to tone down the hyperbole and work on general experiences rather than one specific one. Just saying.

                • -1

@try2bhelpful: I work in the IT field in the technical side so can rely on my experience and knowledge with these things. I'm amused that I replied to a comment that was advising Samsung S8 and S7 are no good and then a second person went on to tell me how great their iPhone 6 still is.

        • That would be Samsung phones then, not Android phones. FYI, there are other makers apart from Samsung.

    • Get whatever you want

    • +2

I like to think of myself as an unbiased rational person, I've owned the following, iphone1,3gs,4s,5s | Galaxy 1, note3, S6, S7 Edge, Note7(rip), Note8. I have used android phone recently since the iPhone 5S, because android tech was far outpacing apples, but with the last 2 iPhone generations Apple has caught up enough for me to make the switch to my IphoneXS Max, and am happy with the experience. Apple has gotten fast charging, wireless charging, some NFC, ip68, AMOLED, better camera tech, etc. FaceID is a game changer and imo you actually don't notice the NOTCH after a couple days of use, I personally though it would be more jarring to get used to.

Unless you are heavily invested in android, and like to customise the look of your phone the new series is worth the change. the old argument with both popular platforms was removable battery, microsd expansion, usb storage plud'n'play. price for the tech you received etc. But honestly even though apple phones most of the time they hold their value stupidly well and if you wanted to could resell for a decent price even 3 years down the line.

Android phones especially Samsung in my opinion lose their value in 6 months and trying to recoup any money for your next phone feels like a loss.

Those are my 2 cents, hope this helps you with your decision. side note. I use DXO mark to get an average idea on camera specific performance, the S10 setup is very good, it got a DXO Mark of 109, which puts it on par with the Huawei p20 line, the iPhone XS max, scores 105. but yeah, my 50 cents worth of advice :)

EDIT: almost forgot! curved screens, argghhhh screen protectors for curved screens are lame, and unless the only good tempered glass one is the whitestone dome series, u may need a normal film to get a nice smooth feeling. Where as apple are flat screens and I feel much easier to get a nice tempered glass feel. I like Spigen for cases and I decided to get a spigen glass protector as well, I notice a difference between cheaper temepered glass and the premium spigen ones, the Oleophbic coating feels more legit in repelling finger prints.

      • I agree on the parts about not holding their value and the curved screens. The rest, agree to disagree.

  • For those that don't mind a demo/second hand unit, I bought mine from OzClearance on ebay. Comes down to $1529 after using the 'PROUD' or Studentedge 10% off coupon code.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EX-DEMO-Apple-iPhone-XS-Max-512G…

Mine came in perfect condition in its original box with unused accessories. Also came with a valid tax invoice too for those that claim it on the TRS.

    • Does it come with 2 year warranty even though its a demo ?

      • No

      • The manufacturer warranty starts from the date it was activated, so it expires in Sep 2020 (ie 1.5yrs warranty).

    • +1

There is no way I would ever trust a refurbished iPhone that doesn't come from Apple. You wouldn't know that it was opened/tampered with or had parts replaced with third-parties. With Australia's not-so-great 'right to repair' track record, Apple would be within their rights to refuse you warranty despite what OzClearance say. While the Australian Consumer Law would allow you to claim any potential remedy from OzClearance, they could be a downright nightmare to deal with.

I've seen 'as new, refurbished' phones and ones labelled as 'ex-demo' before that had genuine parts ripped out and replaced with non-genuine and dodgy parts.

All of that just adds up to a big risk on a high-priced item that I just wouldn't be willing to gamble on. Just something to be wary of.

      • Exactly right, which is why I clarified with the seller beforehand if these units were refurbished at all (which they aren't). Like all things, you need to make sure you ask the question.

  • Price match with Office Works and pay with Gift Card (Suncorp does OW gift cards)

  • +1

FYI - Currently, Officeworks still has the iPhone XS 512GB for $2167 and iPhone XS 512GB $2347. Perhaps worth trying to price match/beat at OW.

    • Checked now, OW updated prices to match JB.

      • Lol says “This product cannot currently be purchased online”
Check local stores no one has them in stock

  • This or a 75" Hisense TV and a Nintendo Switch? LOL

    • no one cares about your soy switch

      • +2

What the hell is a soy switch?

        • When you are lactose intolerant and have to switch to soy milk, that my friend, would be a 'soy switch'
BTW, WTH is a RocketSwitch ?

    • Depends if you need a phone or not?

      • +2

Got the v30+, could get 5 of them for this price.

        • Or you could get 5 XS Max’s for $10,000.

  • -4

Haha $2000+ for a phone that's going to be superceded in August

    • +2

The release date will, most likely be September or October; if you are going to do a snark then at least get it right.

      • Hahahaaaa yes, the extra six weeks you've added has shown me the error of my ways. This $2000 phone is outstanding value. Wait til my fellow commuters see me whip it out. They'll evaluate me as an a high net-worth individual right away. Until September or October, that is.

    • Ok so firstly, the iPhone 6S still performs admirably. It is 4 years old. But more to the point, name 1 android phone that isn’t also superseded annually?

      • The point of an iPhone today is showing everyone how much you can spend on a phone. Unlike any actual luxury goods though, the iPhone has a 1 year use-by date. After the new one is out, the previously top tier model has the opposite effect it did a week ago - it actually outs you in front of all the other fourteen year olds as someone who couldn't afford the new best one on release day.

        • See the younger generation may think the way you are speaking, sure, but most people really don’t care. I didn’t buy an iPhone to ‘flex’ if that’s what you mean. I bought it because quite simply I wanted to for various reasons but not simply just to act cool! It annoys me when kids that obviously cannot afford such a product have one, I feel for the parents.

          • @[Deactivated]: Ey, and everyone should use what they prefer to use yeah. The last iPhone I used was the iPhone 4. I hold that in my mind as the last truly revolutionary phone. Sadly, the build quality, reliability, and service from Apple (the things that earned Apple its fame) were so bad to me that I fled.

  • Not trying to be a dick or anything, but how long have flagship phones been costing upwards of a grand for? I've never been one to buy brand new phones, let alone outright, so I haven't paid much attention to prices of them.

    • years

      • Fair enough haha, guess i'm just really out of the loop. Surely 2k is a bit more recent though? That's some insane money for a portable facebook machine.

        • +2

$2k is definitely more recent. That's only really been in the past 2 years and with the huge upshoot in price, I think Apple is definitely hurting there as people are holding onto devices for longer.

Most flagship phones used to hover around $1k. Now it all seems a bit silly.

          • +1

@skittlebrau: It seems so crazy to describe a company that had $83.4 billion USD in revenue in 3 months as hurting but that does seem to be the current narrative.

  • I've been looking for a 256GB XS for a while now – doesn't seem like anyone's doing a deal!

  • This or poco F1?

    • Poco doesn't have nfc which a deal breaker for some. Camera on the iphone would be better but thats about it.

  • Got some discounted Harvey Norman vouchers through union, hoping to get them to price match. Surprise surprise suddenly Harvey Norman is suddenly out of stock in the entire state. When you try to price match online they say the price is "below market value" which is an exception built into the terms and conditions of their price match policy. TL;DR - Harvey Norman's price match guarantee is a load of horseshit.

edit: tried again with a different agent who told me they won't pricematch anything that's significantly below RRP! .. wow

    • +1

Ya , I learnt that about 6 months ago but they will price match if a significant amount of other stores r doing it so customers come through the doors. Staff explained when red ded 2 came out how they apparently reduced it to I think it was $55 which was below their cost price and in fact losing money. Maybe they buy their items for a higher price as well or feeding staff lies. None the less thy usually only take a small % off any item and Refuse prices they don’t like.

      • Of course this morning stock has suddenly begun appearing in stores now that JB sale has ended. Interestingly now HN has dropped their prices a little. Though not quite as low as the JB sale price.

  • +1

XS MAX 512gb is cheaper at all_phones eBay after 20% off.
