Apple MacBook 12" 2016, 8GB RAM, Intel Core M3, Intel HD 515, 256GB NVMe SSD $1249 + Delivery (Grey Import) @ Kogan

51

Things to note:
1. The models are direct imports.
2. The models are international English, which have slight variations in keyboard layout and may come with alternate power adapters.
3. The orders won't ship until the 24th of April.
4. Hardware specifications: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_(2015–present)#Technical_specifications

Make sure you do your research and determine if this is appropriate for your needs before purchasing (essentially, if portability, build quality, and MacOS aren't your only priorities, it's likely not your best option).

Better to buy this with 2 year warranties, had 2 and had screen issues and happened in 2 years of the warranty and had one after 3 years and it would not boot up. so worth getting it with a 2 years warranty.

  • IS this covered by your 2 year Aus consumer rights?

    • It's an import or unless kogan offers it then nope

Never buy anything of that value from Kogan they are the worst.

    • I completely agree.

  • Just price match at Officeworks if you really want, not worth dealing with Kogan for warranty or repairs.

    • Doesn’t sound like Aus stock, would OW price match grey imports?

      • +3

        They now do

Source? I’ve never been able to price match a “Direct Import” price at Officeworks. The staff will check the page and if it’s “Diredt Import” (aka grey) they will refuse to match. I tired about 5 stores and this was the case.

I think many people got confused when someone posted a deal last year saying Officeworks now matches Kogan. They do but only for items without the “Direct Import” disclaimer.

      • interested to know this as well … ^

Read this thread before you buy something from them, https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3obuca/i_bought_a_…

  • Would rather pay ~$1623 (10% off plus gift card 5% off) for current model.

Or wait for the refresh anyway. Current model is two years/gens old. (No 9th gen intel m on Ark yet though.)

    • I wouldn't hold your breath on the refresh of the MacBook line. What could a new MacBook possibly offer over the recently refreshed MacBook Air?

Terrible processor, it will lag like crazy.

Think you’ll find it’s fine for general tasks. Try to get it to do any work though and you’ll know about it.

    • Performance or battery-life, pick one.

      • -1

Both. Why would I sacrifice one for the other? Especially at $1000+ range.

waste of money, in my opinion. well, however I would never buy apples. never again :D

    • What about bananas?

    • At Apple's regular pricing, I completely agree. However, at this price, what alternatives are there that are comparable with regards to durability, portability, battery-life, display, and trackpad?

      • +1

Core m3, 1 USB-C port only (even charging is through that port), butterfly keyboard (which even the 2018 MBPs still have issues), it really doesn't make sense. Okay, you do get a headphone audio jack (supports iPhone headset with remote and microphone).

That sole USB-C port on Macbook is USB 3.1 generation 1 only (5Gbps - it used to be called USB 3.0) - it's not even gen2 so you can forget about Thunderbolt 3. You really get the bare minimum from Apple with this. Only Apple can get away with this.

      • even at this price, I would not buy apple. especially this crippled model that's for sure. durability is highly debatable in this case, this model is for a careful user at best. also, m3 CPU will not do a lot for you. single usb c port. screen is ok but too damn small? at any rate, you're talking to a wrong guy here. I can furnish you with a brand new Dell mobile workstation for $1299, with a high performance cpu, military specifications build and 3 year on site warranty for a peace of mind. that's my kind of laptop. this here, like most apple products, is a useless expensive toy so screw it.

  • These keyboards suck. Much better buying a refurbed 2015 macbook pro

    • I agree with you, but MB and MBP are really apples and oranges.

  • shame on Kogan
