      • I’m with Aussie and I have a Samknows box that feeds data to ACCC. Last month my min speed was 40 and ave 46. I’m on a 50 plan. So no peak issues with my connect at the moment.

    • Yeah ABB has been getting worse and worse for me over the last few months. Much slower speeds between 7pm and 11pm.

I have been having problems streaming my NBA league pass between those times and have to lower the stream quality to 360p sometimes.

    • What’s worrying is their drop out rates is higher than TPG, amongst being behind on most other measures too

    • Aussie broadband advertises a higher speed than the competition. People are taking this fact on face value instead of taking the time to think.

  • And here im paying for $74 50/20 500GIG cap sigh

  • +11

Meanwhile in New Zealand they offer 900/400 plans for a similar price range. Good deal nonetheless.

    • +6

Might have got that with original plan of fibre to the premises :(

    • And in Europe, you can get gigabit fibre for the equivalent of about $13.5 AUD per month.

      • Europe isn't a country though. So you are saying all the countries in Europe or the EU have a similar package for the same price? Where in Europe?

    • +6

Keep supporting the liberals, that'll improve our internet. Our average speeds are improving by the day thanks to our 'amazing super-fast' NBN being rolled out yet we're still behind countries like Kazakhstan. Should tell people something about how 'great' the NBN really is but sadly most don't seem to care. Can't wait till a few years when they decide they have to waste another $50B just to get FTTP to most homes which we would've had by now if not for politics.
Maybe one day Australia can at least catch up to countries like Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Uruguay etc. Countries that some people would even call third-world.

      • +1

Its not exactly apples to apples. Not defending our botched NBN in the least but i've been to some of the countries rated above us and several dont have squat besides mobile outside dense metro areas, and they are geographically small countries. Stats and reporting, just like average NBN speeds in the ACCC report, are easily massaged. Context is everything. But totally agree if we're gonna throw away countless billions at least go all in and do it right!

        • -3

Your first point, isn't that even more reason as to why we should be better overall? doesn't matter really. Us talking about other countries won't change the fact that back home we could have had FTTP in over 90% of homes that could eventually handle 1GB connections. Now what we have is a project that's over budget by $10B+ (that's just what they tell us), is a severely inferior product and could potentially cost us up to $50B (my prediction) if not more just to get back where the original plan was at.
At least we don't have the worst managers of the economy in the world in power aka the labor devils right guys? right?

          • @Ostrk: Mobile and fixed are separate measures. Likewise so are geographical and population coverage typically. As i said not defending the NBN at all, i work in the sector and am a massive critic of how its been delivered, contracts awarded, operationally run, the strategy altered etc. Not to mention the fat cats on the gravy train in NBN itself. Labor, liberal, big government cannot help but be the devil. I voted for labor excited for the NBN strategy but as tax payers there is a great deal of blame to be assigned to both parties for different reasons but nothing will come of it. They play their games and when it hits the fan divide and distract us from the fact what do you know, more writing of cheques that the rest of us pay.

      • /s

  • Applied to my plan just now. Currently waiting for the actual install. Essentially got first month free and $20 off first 6 months. All the while dealing with friendly and helpful staff.

Already glad I switched over to these guys.

Does anyone know if I'll be able to use the stock router supplied by TPG from current ADSL2+ plan?

    • Whomastadon - if there is a port marked "WAN" at the back - yes it will. Just have the router set to Bridge Mode. :)

    • But you wont get anywhere near max nbn speeds, unless your on the 12 plan.

I'm thinking of ditching AussieBB. For some reason they have frequent drops for 1-2 mins everyday. I was with telecube then skymesh before with BB but never had this issue before.

    • Maybe your modem is faulty?

  • +2

Hmm, AussieBB use to be the market darling, and savior of failing NBN providers, has the shine finally worn off?

I'm a user of AussieBB, but had an issue when calling overseas, the receive can hear me, but I can't hear, them. Apparently a Codec issue that AussieBB has no way of resolving? …

    • Use a different codec?

      • Unfamiliar how to set this up, I’ve called support, and they mentioned nothing they can help with. I did ask if anyway if changing codec, and they said no…

    • Are you using the default equipment they gave you?

      • No, they did mention it’s a codec on ABB’s end.. and that nothing I can do, but I’m not sure if it’s just who I spoke to.

  • +5

Ditching ABB at the end of my $20 off at the end of my cycle this month. I've had some drop outs over the last few weeks (FTTP, unlimited 50/20, Perth) and no notice on their website regarding disruptions. Might try Exetel.

    • +1

Identical circumstance here on the Bassendean POI. For me the dropouts probably go back a month or so. I've got to make the decision this weekend.

      • I've only had one drop out of FTTN in the last 2 weeks with Aussie Broadband

        • +1

Mine FTTN got disconnected by NBN last week.

  • Can you change between speed options on Aussie Broadband without financial penalty or do you have to serve out your contract before changing?

    • you can put in a plan change for your next schedule billing change, no penalty

I am with ABB on a 500GB plan paying $85/month/100-40Mb plan.

Whilst I am happy with it, I find that it is far too expensive for only 1 person using the connection so largely depends on how many people live in a NBN serviced house, which does not get taken into consideration which really Sucks!

While its good to see them offering plans like this, it also makes me want to move permanently away of spite, because after all their marketing ploys, they could simply offer Value Price point to the Majority instead of trying to capture more subscribers which in turn leaves faithful users driven away with Anger and Frustration as ABB management simply WONT listen (the staff do).

Nice service though, but not Perfect by No means, imo!

    • I'm in the same boat mate I signed up before telecube went bust with no deals etc I pay $74 for 50/20 500gb and not seeing it's value when new customers get well looked after I'm hanging on by a thread

  • With ABB, if you are with Bigpond cable and changing to HFC, is it self install or they still send the useless tech around?

    • I think HFC needs NBN modem.

      • I understand that, was more asking if you can self install, which is easy, or they force a tech visit on you?

        • +1

NBN modem needs to be installed by tech. Router can be done via self install.

          • @takezo: seriously? turn off power to existing modem, remove power cable and unscrew cable on old modem from wall, screw cable in wall and new modem, plug in power cable into wall and modem, turn on, wait, Internet!, Profit!. And this requires a visit from the (cough) highly skilled technician? no wonder its a gold plated turd.

            • @Trantor: they even put a video out to self install, but I can never find anywhere that says they are actually allowing it
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSKUn_oPtSM

              • @Trantor: It was planned before the stop sell on HFC but it seems they had so many issues with the network that they've decided to do signal testing etc with an installer to stop the complaints from the public rolling in.

            • @Trantor: they need to make sure that when the modem plug it and it is working, if not there is some patching need to be done in your building telecommunication room

  • +1

Been with AussieBB for about 1 and a half years now and gotta say - they are awesome. The internet speeds I get are great and very close to what I pay (even in peak times) and their customer service is amazing.

  • As a brand new customer I was impressed with Aussie Broadband so far… until this. Oh well, I'm not on contract, so will look elsewhere now.

  • Has anyone tried Technology Choice with Aussie Broadband?

    • You do the TCP yourself via NBN, not your RSP.

Once the FTTP build is complete, then you can go back to ABB.

      • You do the TCP yourself via NBN, not your RSP.

Sorry, but there are three option listed for Technology Choice

Every premises has the potential to have an nbn™ FTTP connection, although the costs can vary substantially depending on the unique circumstances of each premises. To apply, you must either own the premises or have the owner’s authority – you can also ask your provider to apply on your behalf.

I'm looking at a group switch with neighbours.

        • I stand corrected, but I've never heard of any provider getting involved in the process. If you have a look at the Whirlpool thread on this topic, I don't believe anyone has done it through their provider.

Just sounds like another chain in the link which won't help at all but slow down the already dreadfully slow process.

I'm currently doing it myself and it's fine, but slow.

  • Is "New customer" identified by property or name?

    • I managed to get a second discount (first one was $10 off for 6 months) when I moved house with them, I think I was a little dodgy and signed up online using the code as though it was a new connection. But I spoke to them a couple of timess throughout about other stuff. It's the same account, different address and they gave me my month free this time.

  • just had my NBN connected today. Loving ABB.

  • Just a warning if you sign up for this, Aussie Broadband are a little to efficient!

Signed up 10 minutes ago as having loads of issues with TPG and disconnects, the connection is NBN FTTB and I selected the bring your own modem so I can buy my own. Anyway just got a text saying the service is enabled 10 minutes after signup so now I'll have to wait maybe until Monday hopefully for internet again while the new modem I purchased ships unless I can hack the TPG one to change connection settings. I was expecting at least several days for activation, not complaining was just unexpected being so fast!

  • Anyone has experienced if I take on the 1 months free offer before, for how long it can get this again with another provider?

  • NBN is such a farce. installation date around our area keeps getting delayed.

  • Promocode isn't working for me. Has anyone else tried?

  • +1

Sorry if it's already been asked but what is ABB's policy on return customers?

I left ABB 3 or 4 months ago for Kogan. Very happy with Kogan but that 50/20 ABB plan for $59 could steal me back. I recall they having some limit to prevent this though?

  • When churning around, watch out for the previous ISP's modem locking you into their voip settings (http://www.perthhacks.com/2019/05/how-to-get-your-voip-phone…)

  • What's the notice requirement with ABB if you decide to disconnect?

  • Anyone confirmed if this works with the 50/20 plan for a new customer? FWIW its HFC, never had cable/foxtel so will need NBN to install the socket etc. Assume its all covered by NBN?

    • If you are HFC yes hey will run a line into the house and location of choice but from memory if you haven't had a NBN connection before you might have to pay the $300 New connection fee ?

  • Just signed up with Kogan $75 a month for (NBN 100) for first 9 months then goes to $85 after that - has anyone tried them? Should I cancel the order and try ABB? It's no lock in contract so if I'm not happy I could always try elsewhere..

    • ABB will very likely be a better option

      • Get the free modem for the first month then go to ABB

  • I've been with ABB for about 5 months now. I'm on 100/40 plan. You do get that speed any time of day! Absolutely fantastic customer service too.
Originally, I'm from EU: while ABB is expensive by EU standards, the quality is up there with the best EU providers.

    • What area are you in though

  • Signed up and got connected within 4 hours. Extremely impressed.

  • what other option after 6 months if i only want nbn50 unlimited and i don't want to pay more than $69? Currently Paying $69/month to TPG, no complain. But will try ABB for 6 months at $59.

    • I'm in your position exactly. I find tpg fast and despite hating their BS adsl and mobile "deposit" schemes, I have no complaints. Are you just looking for a 10 buck discount or is there something ABB can deliver which TPG don't?

      • Probably $10 off for 6 months, and would like to try other NBN provider so i can compare to TPG.

        • Yep fair enough.

I kind can't believe I'm saying this, but tpg have been so good in providing me with new modems for free outside of any contract renewal when still on adsl, waiving setup on the NBN and giving me a modem for free with no contract period on NBN… I think I'm just going to stay out of, gasp, loyalty to tpg?

But if another company has unlimited 50 for less than 59 with no time limit I'm out.

          Man's gotta have morals.

  • Can I cancel and then come back as a new customer?

    • +2

      Think there's a 6 month wait period

      • Thanks!

    • +2

Pretty sure you need to be a non-customer for a minimum of 6 months.

      • Thanks!

    • +1

New customer is based on NBN location ID (aka property) and need to be away for 6 months or more to be consider a new customer.

  • Exetel or ABB???

    • ABB, the ISP out of the two who haven't disconnected a bunch of services for using too much data on their unlimited plans..

      • I'm with optus at the moment. They are hopeless.

  • Bad deal once 6 months is up.

    • +1

It's a no lock in contract, you just change ISP's….

  • +1

Says "Invalid promo/referral code provided" here

    • Same here, did you work it out?

  • just sign up mine. it is Fixed Wireless nbn 50mbps.

it says "Aussie Broadband estimates that there is peak time congestion in about 18% of the NBN’s fixed wireless network. Unfortunately, we can’t see exactly where this is happening. We’re pushing NBN for more transparency and upgrades, but in the meantime, we recommend talking with close neighbours before you sign up to see if they are experiencing congestion before making your final decision to switch."

    checked nbnco.com.au , it shows:-
There’s still work to do before your premises is ready to connect. This work may take approximately 6 to 12 months.*
Planned technology: nbn™ Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)*

should i cancel the fixed wireless? or use fixed wireless first and change to HFC when it is available?
    any suggestion?

also, does it compateible with my technicolor dga0230 Telstra smart modem gen1?

    thanks

    • That doesn’t make sense. If you’re in the Fixed Wireless footprint, that’s what you get. If you’re in the HFC footprint, that’s what you get.

I don’t see how you’d be in a FW area and NBN are now going back over it and overbuilding with HFC. FW is in fringe areas, not areas where the HFC network is.

What does it say when you put your address into the ABB POI checker? Blank out what it says under “Premises location ID” as that can give away your address.

      • POI name Ballarat
        CSA name Ballarat 2 CSA
        Premises location ID ************
        Premises technology Wireless
        Premises service class 5
Premises service class description Serviceable by Wireless, CPE not installed
Premises readiness Ready to connect to the nbn!

        • Yet the NBN site says you’re getting HFC?

          • @Nousernamehere: we saw nbn guys outside our home about 2 weeks ago. he said they have to replace the existing connection below the ground.

i have no idea why i only have fixed wireless. i dont mind using fixed wireless for temporary until the cabling replaced.

i m not sure if abb will upgrade me to hfc once it is ready in coming weeks/months
