Electricity offers have reduced in value this year!!
Was $200 in May, $175 in June
    Now its $125 📉

With increased electricity rates, seems Retailers aren't so interested in attracting new customers. Preferred to attract them before increase… & hope they stayed.

    Received 2 x $200 MC this year, 120d after connection👍
Switched again for $200 in June.

    • Do I have to keep switching providers every time to get a better deal?

Is there a cooling-off period after switching for each provider?

For example, I’m currently with OVO, then planning to switch to AGL, and maybe Red Energy next?

      • +2

Most switch in these Deals for the incentives to switch retailer💰

Cheaper rates can be found from Retailers, etc. But thats only important if you want to stay long term with retailer.

Only restriction on time between changing retailer is the 45d here.
But check retailer T&C. Unlikely as its anticompetitive. Whereas this incentive isn't.

Cooling off period (10 business days) only applies so you can change your mind when taking up new retailer.

Disconnection & Connection fees don't apply to switching retailer. Only to disconnect / connect actual supply, not change the bill.

    • +3

With increased electricity rates, seems Retailers aren't so interested in attracting new customers

Or, perhaps Econnex is retaining more of the commission?

      • Retailers offer cashback sites higher return for new customers when they need them most - when they can get most out of them!
        That was BEFORE increased rates.

        • +1

Sure, makes sense but we don't know Econnex's decision making or agreements with retailers.

          • -1

@YesPleaseThankYou: As for what cashback sites do - who knows.
They make a nice profit, otherwise these Deals wouldn't exist💰

Agreements can be complex. Helped resolve an issue between Retailer & CR Rep long ago. Was very stressful for paid Rep when Deal fell over, costing CR.

    • Is it still worth it if you're ready to switch again? Or better to wait for a better deal?

      • +1

My Crystal Ball is in for repair🔮

    • Do the gas and electricity gift cards arrive at different times? Or both together?

My electricity switched in May but I think my gas switch won't happen until next week.

  • How you can get 2? How long you have to stay connected?

    • +3

Connection: 45d, then take up next Deal!
MC arrives in email in 120d.
MC must be redeemed within 30d.

Set Reminder for 120d to check email received.
      If not, PM Rep Manyo

      • So after 45 days you can change

        • +1

          Yes. Received both MC.
          On to my 3rd.

          • @INFIDEL: Still waiting for my MC from may 2025

            • @Zeee: Offers were end of May, so not 120d yet😉

              • @INFIDEL: Yup… Now thinking to switch again. For this deal
But offering is low for the hassle

                • @Zeee: Likely Better than not switching.

Check Retailers offers (bonus bill credit) through Econnex offers or elsewhere.

                  • @INFIDEL: Switch to alinta. Thought they the cheapest but recent received 267 bill, and was shocked. It was more than the covau.

                    Some monopoly is going on

                    • +2

@Zeee: PowerShop has $200 bill credit for new customer💰
                      Not offered everywhere in Econnex.👐

                      • @INFIDEL: Let me check. I remember the were expensive … So the 45 days would start since the activation welcome email right

                        • @Zeee: It hardly matters. You use the credit and move on.

                          • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: As have done tor years!
Only stick around min days / all credit used up.
                            Then take up next Deal!

                            • +1

                              @INFIDEL: 😂💰Switch for Profit💰😂

Effectively haven't paid for electricity for years thanks to these Deals & Govt rebates💰
(all electric aircon home, no solar)

Made a nice profit this year!

                          • +1

                            @YesPleaseThankYou: Perfecto. I m on to it

                        • @Zeee: A higher rate over 45d is negated by the $200 PowerShop bill credit💰

                    • @Zeee: Complain!
Switched last month to alinta. After $75 Govt Rebate & part month bill…
                      Have ~$65 Credit🎉

I prefer PowerShop, but have been with them 7 times (once this year), so the $200 bill credit is unlikely for me.

                      • @INFIDEL: Ohh yeah where is my 75 credit rebate?

                    • @Zeee: Switched to CovaU for gas like a month a go, asked whats going on, they convinced I dont have an active gas connection, sent them a photo of the meter and my recent bill with Alinta, several phone calls and emails later they still think i dont have a gas connection!

      • Does the gift card email come from econnex or a 3rd party?

        • -2

Read the information and you'll find the answers therein.

        • +1

          MC in email from Karta
Plus reminder email from Econnex to open that email from Karta.

  • +2

As confirmation email from Econnex does not contain offer details (just retailer you switched to)…

Screenshot linked details showing MC, T&C
Linked page disappears after Deal expires.

    • Yeah, was wondering how do you know if you’ll actually get the bonus??

      • Write it down. You’ll just need your reference number to confirm your order, if you haven’t received anything email them. It’s worked for me twice before

  • time to switch

  • -2

What are the rates? One of those insanly complcated click throughs with 30+ links & expensive?

    • +3

      You don't understand churning.

You use the credit and move on. The rates are a secondary consideration.

    • -1

      😂💰Switch for Profit💰😂

Higher rate over 45d bill period - usually more than negated by the MC!
Plus offers of bill credit (eg PowerShop $200)💰

Then Switch again in next Deal!

      • Using these Deals & Govt Rebates, effectively haven't paid for electricity for years.

        Made a profit this year💰
(all electric aircon home, no solar)

    • There are likely better rates elsewhere for those who want to stay long term with same retailer.

Econnex Deals offer a good incentive to switch. That particularly benefits those who regularly switch. Combine with bill credits in Deal!

    • Like with all utility prices, Rates depend on your location & retailer you choose.
Not possible to list just 1 rate for everyone! Yes utility pricing is insanly complcated!

  • Anyone know if you switch before you get your first bill with Energy Australia, whether they revoke the $200 welcome credit? It's been more than 45 days but the bill isn't due to come for another 20 days. Just wondering if I lose the $200 welcome credit if I switch now?

    • -1

Get a smart meter so you can churn more quickly.

As for your question, read the terms and conditions under which you joined - which you, of course, saved a copy of.

    • +2

Bill credit is used to pay your bill(s).
Each retailer has own T&C for it. Refer to it.

Bill credit is not transferable. Its use or lose.
So will likely be used in paying that bill.
Any excess will be lost in switching.

$75 Govt electricity rebate is yours, so should be transferred to you.

  • -2

Are these legit for internet swapping or is it just data harvesting and spam calls you get. ShopBack has a lot of these switch through some sus website and get $90

  • +6

$150 for electricity via this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/902931
    and min stay 30 days

    • Its a strangely long term Econnex offer with no end date & different conditions, compared to these usual few day expiry Econnex Deals…

Starting from 26th February 2025 (“Promotional Period”) and may be withdrawn at any time by Econnex Comparison. Econnex Comparison retains the right to change or alter the terms of this offer.

Which makes me a little uneasy.
Luckily I Switched again for $200 in June.

      • +3

These monthly deals are specifically for ozbargain.
The long term one is for wider market reach.

        • Any idea if the deal you linked can be used multiple times?

    • I'd be going for the above deal rather than the one in this thread.

  • Anyone use these guys in the past?

I switched gas and nbn with them on the last month's slightly better deal. Whats the communication like?

Both the new gas and nbn internet retailers have reached out indicating they will switch me over. And I got my message from econnex saying "thank you, we will get you through to the retailers"- but no mention of the gift card or ongoing process since.

I'll update with whatever happens between now and 50 days after the switch over dates so other's can have confidence in the process.

  • Just requested a switch to AGL on Friday without this deal, it hasn't been setup yet. Can I still use this?

    • +1

Yes - contact AGL & cancel.

Cooling off period (10 business days) applies so you can change your mind when taking up new retailer.

  • +4

I spoke to agl chat yesterday, told them i am leaving for a sign up incentive. They offered me $225 bonus for both gas and electricity on the spot and put me on a cheaper plan.
Saves me churning and a new credit check since i want to get the fold7 on a telstra plan next week

    • That's a great bonus. Do you have to stay for 150 days for the bonus to be applied?

      • 90 days but bills come out at 91/92 days

        • Nice. May I ask their rates for elec n gas. I'm currently on Origin Retention offer for both.

          • @Chhaava: Still waiting on documents to be emailed but rates depend on what network your in

            • @easternculture: I got only $150 for my gas account with a stay period of 90 days.

              • @Chhaava: Was it a churn or are you already with AGL?
Also different offers for different states

                • @easternculture: I'm currently with Origin from NSW. I told them I'm a returning customer and was offered $150 for a gas account (after 90 days)

    • Is that 225 each?

      • Yep.try your luck. Just say your switching to x retailer just for the incentive of signup bonus and that it wil cover your next bill

        • +1

I switched today at 200 each and thought I got a good deal! It was also better rates thanmy current provider so no complaints.

    • I got an email from origin to come back for $200, but a rubbish plan. On Monday they only applied $100. Called up. They agreed and paid up on the $200. Since I was there, got the $200 applied to the better plan.

No idea how soon I can move with a negotiated / custom offer over the phone? Straight away? $200 is already on the account.

      • I was offered a $200 electricity credit and a $50 gas credit, but I haven't seen the gas credit applied. I've already sent a few emails regarding this

    • Hey, did you start the chat from the AGL app?

      • +1

Yes, all done via chat within app

    • which team did you ask to speak to? thanks

      • Just used the normal chat within the app

        • thanks, did you go straight to cancellations or retentions?]

          • @dealsniper: It's not rocket science. The chat people know what to do.

            • +1

              @YesPleaseThankYou: As per @YesPleaseThankYou

Just normal chat > inquire about why rates are expensive now > then say something like engie has $200 sign up bonus and you are changing providers for the signup bonus > then they should offer you that offer, its in the system ATM so they should be able to see it.

    • +1

I got the same $225 deal except my existing plan is actually slightly cheaper (albeit it was going to be bumped on 1st August, but still lower supply and slightly higher rate than offered)
The overall plans from econnex is still slightly cheaper but I'm iffy about the cheapest gas provider suggested (Alinta and Energy Australia), plus I'm too lazy with the credit check game so took the 2x$225 bonus after 90 days for now :/

Also AGL chat suck balls, the whole ordeal took nearly 2hr with very slow response from them (~5min inbetween reply) and the representative is very copypasta when I'm asking specific questions regarding terms and condition of the $225 credit.

I couldn't get a clear answer on what happen if I cancel my account after the $225 bonus is applied and my final bill is less than $225. She said "We will be able to refund if there is credit after the final bill", but also said previously, "The credit is not transferable or refundable".

God forbid customer service to be competent….

edit: holy smoke, the representative went passive aggressive near the end as I was complaining the speed and holding me up for nearly 2hrs (1hr of it was simply registering the new plan… 1 whole hour…) and want to speak to a manager. Lodging a complaint with the transcript…

  • Are their rates about to be jacked up on August 1st?

Do all offers on this page come with the MC deal?

  • -2

is this only for powershop? The link shows welcome bonus for powershop plans but doesnt show for OVO

    • I think that's a separate offer from this, so you should get both

  • -1

Is there any provider that doesn't do credit check? Got rejected by Engie and Energy Australia few weeks back on a similar deal?

  • -1

125 sucks now and I'm still waiting for my card from March.

    • +2

The last deal for $150 gc is still active

      • -1

You used to get $200 a year ago when I first started using these offers and you only needed to stay for 30 days. Now it's down to $125 and you need to stay for 45 days. Neg away, but it sucks now.

  • +1

might give powershop $200 a crack

  • +1

I'm confused, because this link is still showing $150+$100:
    https://www.econnex.com.au/edm-promo-energy

  • Can I switch between an electricity account in my name and then partners name to take advantage of credits/cash backs etc. not specific to this deal, just a general question?

    • 100%

      • +1

Thanks. There aren't many providers in my area to choose from so am limited to offers.

  • +2

Just received email from my previous electricity retailer ENGIE: $20+ refund.

Paid nothing over 3 months using $100 ENGIE Bill Credit & $75 Govt Rebate.
(All electric aircon home, no solar)

    Already received Econnex $200 MC💰
    $220+ Pure Profit🎉

BUT ENGIE want me to print (no printer), sign & post refund authority form. Details they already have from my Direct Debit authority😜

Will cost me (travel, print cost, stamp) + 1hr of inconvenience to recover $20+ they owe me… No way!

Other electricity retailers I've used this year in these Deals (at no cost), were so much easier to process refund!
Either automatically sent to my Direct Debit account (PowerShop refund of $56) or email to confirm details first (Origin refund of $1150).

Rang ENGIE saying would not waste my time & $ sending them what they already had. They finally agreed, after confirming details.

ENGIE (formerly Simply Energy) is not Simple - far too bureaucratic & slow a business to deal with!

    • +1

I just fill out the refund pdf form and submit it online.
      https://engie.com.au/help-centre/billing-and-payment/refund-…

      • Emailed Form received today states to print & mail to their Melbourne address. No link provided to that online process!

They seem to like bureaucratic paperwork I hate😖

Ringing was easiest & fastest way. Answered quickly.
No filling out form or searching their site necessary.

Received SMS confirmation of refund process in minutes

As I commented - other retailers process the refund FAR easier!! Receive many refunds per year.

        • They probably assumed that you are computer-illiterate :)

Most retailers usually automatically issue the refund if you have actually made a payment.
It's a bit more complicated when you have never ever made a payment.

          • @jackofspade:

They probably assumed that you are computer-illiterate :)

If they are incorrectly making assumptions about their customers - glad I left 🤪

Never paid for electricity in years.
But all electricity retailers have had my Direct Debit details, submitted online.

Most ask just to confirm account refund is to be paid into. Which is a safe approach.

Not provide a completely blank form to be filled in, printed, signed, & posted😖

Would have been very easy for ENGIE to help by providing that link to their online refund process in their refund email!!
            Not just the PDF.

But they didn't bother giving that easier & faster option. Got to ask why they choose to delay refunding people's funds??💰

They don't seem to think of the customer!
So I don't think much of ENGIE!!

          • @jackofspade: Just received refund to bank account😊 Took under 4 hr.

So much quicker than following ENGIE's instructions to fill out form, print, post & wait… days!

  • Already have electricity with Powershop so was planning to join their Gas only with $100 powershop credit + this deal. However when searching for Gas only offers no Powershop deal is presented in Econnex search results. It only comes when signing up for Electricity + Gas. Any way around it?
