UPDATE: Many users are reporting cancelled orders due to a pricing error

Amazon have now started emailing to advise of the cancellation and are giving $30 vouchers per order. You can check your coupons here. For the record my order of 3 was cancelled and I received the $30 gift voucher too. The drives would have been great but I'm also pretty happy with this compensation. Congratulations to anyone who gets their order delivered.

Insane price for the 10TB WD My Book external hard drive. Limit to 3 per customer, and remember to use cashback. I grabbed 3 for $389.52 + Free Delivery with Prime.

  • Absolutely amazing price but I've got to try and restrain myself. There's no way I need 10TB.

    • +1

I doubt in 5 years it will be this price. It's worth the gamble

      • That's the thing. By the time I get to use it's capacity it'll be just about dead.

      • 110% right.
Still sitting on a 16tb mybook that's more expensive than 3+yrs ago.

  • -2

Buying 5 but I do not need any :s. Thanks op

    • +1

      Limit to 3 per customer?

      • +4

And could at least support the deal

      • -2

Yeh. Bought 3. I thought I could get 5. Err

  • +3

ok , my 1st order was placed even before this item posting here in OZB,,( may be 10mins earlier).. I can see that my CC has been charged,, & I can not see "Cancel" in my order options

19/05/2019 *AMAZON MKTPLC AU SYDNEY SOUTH AU AUD 129.84

Other two orders I placed, ( may be withn 5min ) someone posting it in OZB, not charged as yet ,,, "Cancel" button visible..

For me looks like one order went through..

    • Did you receive an email like this one?

      Hello,

We have placed a hold on your account and canceled any pending orders.

You can help us resolve this issue by replying to this message.

We ask that you not open new accounts as any order you place may be delayed.

      Sincerely,

      • No ,, Nothing as of now..

        • Maybe I left a trace of breadcrumb along the track. 😪

  • fOR THOSE of you who have raised a ticket with WD and got free AU adaptors, what did you say in your ticket?

Did you say you bought in USA?

Just want to do the same so I dont get rejected

    • Also curious

      • +8

I called the WD Australia support number, call centre was overseas somewhere, told them I brought it on amazon and it came with a U.S plug and I needed an australian one, gave them the serial number from the bottom and they sent one out by Fedex via China.

        • Woah, I didn't know that. I'll have to remember that.

          • @BillyG687: Was pretty easy and straight forward, I got the advice from fellow ozbargainers.

    • +12

For those that want to do it online (otherwise call General Support 1-800-429-861)

      1. Register to WD Support Portal (https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/id_userregistrat…)
      2. Register your HDDs (https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/id_productregist…)
      3. Creat Support Case (https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/ID_CreateSupport…)

      Subject: Unsuitable Cable Provided

      Hi,
I recently purchased 2 x WD 10TB HDDs (SERIALNO1, SERIALNO2),both came with a power cable unsuitable for Australia.
Is it possible to be sent 2 new power cables that will be able to be used in Australian power points?
      Much appreciated,
      Gumbootboy

Response from WD (I was hoping for it to be delivered quicker, based on a comment I had read on here it arrived for someone after two days…)

"I would like to inform you that I have raised your request for 2 power adapter. You will receive the power adapter within 10-15 business days."

      • +1

Hi, thanks, these clear instructions helped me a lot, and now the adapter is due to arrive this week.
Just wanted to share my experience as well:
        - I ordered from a previous deal, from Amazon US, not AU, but seems ok.
        - I registered the HDD individually before making an account, but was ok.
        - I created a support case tied to the product except with a simpler message body:
        "Hi,
I recently purchased this product, but the power cable is unsuitable for Australia. Is it possible to be sent a power adapter for Australian power points?
        Much appreciated,
        <name>"
then later got an email saying they raised the request etc. with 10-15 day delivery time and asking for delivery address, which I sent in a reply email.

        • No worries. Glad it helped.

FYI - Mine ended up arrived quicker than the 10 days, as others had said. I think it was probably under closer to 5.
Only slightly annoying thing is that the AU compatible plug is the same as the China one, so the plug ends up being upside down compared to others on a normal power board.

Ordered 3. All for my Blue Iris System

    • How many cameras have you got??

      • 9 Hikvisions at the moment.

  • +2

Folks, US Amazon is based in Seattle and its only 4:45AM there. Give another 2 hrs and I’m pretty sure those cancelations will be coming our way :(

A part of me was saying maybe it was a legit price. But unfortunayely US Amazon have just slept through this whole ordeal.

    • +1

Surely they would have people monitoring their systems for problems like this and not just leaving it to the guys in Seattle working 9am to 5 pm.

      • Agreed. They would've received thousands of orders for these as the deal also made it to places like /r/DataHoarder on Reddit. We'll know sooner or later, but I would have thought someone would have the authority to catch this error overnight in the US.

        • Even if they knew, I dooubt they would have anyone with authority to price change. Maybe they have flaged it but can’t do anything about it until someone with authority rocks up.

          • @TomGum: If that's the case they need to look at their processes.

            • @whey4000: Then we wouldnt be here having so much fun hahah

          • @TomGum: They could mark the item as Out of Stock to prevent more orders at all.

  • +2

Possibly the best day in OZB history for hard drives - 4 ad's on the front page

  • -6

thanks, bought 6 over two amazon accounts with prime trials. total of $780 for 60tb.

pretty damn good considering 10tb reds are $450 a pop!

    • Why am I getting downvoted? These are all for use in a NAS….

  • +1

Will Officeworks price match this deal if it still exists in the morning?

    • +8

      hahahhaahahahahaha

    • EDIT - Officeworks does not stock this haha

      • I’m ready to line up at JB’s and try to get them to price match. If this price holds up by 9AM tomorrow.

    • Oh boy, you almost unloaded a horde of OZB queueing in front of Officeworks on a Monday morning.

      • I only considered for a second because so much easier returning them with rule number 1 of ozbargain "buy now, ask questions later" (:

      • +1

Good luck with them price matching, Officeworks in my personal experience is the only place that won't cause a hassle when trying to pricematch Amazon.

      • JB more of a tight arse, do they price match amazon? I know Officeworks are the friendliest with price matching haha

        • +1

from my experience with them - I wouldn't hold my breath

          • @Optimus Prime: JB is actually bullshit haha, you have to be strategic about which store and employee you get when price matching. Big time waste smh

            • @ThePriceIsNotRight: its a hit and miss and with sale prices like this ..the effort is not worth it IMO

            • +1

@ThePriceIsNotRight: HN is worse!!! I had to spend over 30mins talking just to price march BigW!!!

By talking I mean, sit down, takes my details, enters in his pc. Talks to his manager etc etc etc

              • +1

@TomGum: Hilariously, I've had better experiences with Harvey Norman and price matching. Had a dishwasher and washing machine price matching The Good Guys eBay with one of the original 20% sitewide deals.

        • +1

JB will say can't that is below our cost.

          • @CyberMurning: Shove their (profanity) terms and conditions in their face.
Nah seriously do it if in dire needs (:

            • @ThePriceIsNotRight: It’s not an Australian SKU which JB’s will be, so you can’t likely throw their policy in their face as I imagine that policy states it must be the same product in its entirety. Same no doubt will apply to Office works.

Sales reps may miss that point but.

          • @CyberMurning: I try to call few stores before i bother showing up for this reason

            • @Optimus Prime: Sadly, that is the easiest way for them to reject the price match pretty much they are always going to decline it over the phone. So yeah sadly have to go in and waste time to gamble whether it will get honoured or not

  • Couldn't resist the temptation the second time looking at this deal. Got 1. Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP.

  • FOMO. Bought 2 :D

  • -5

Not sure I need this. Might gumtree it for $200

  • Somehow my fingers made another purchase. 2 total. Must stop….

  • thats a 1,000 upvotes and $15k clicks ! …Amazon …time to start charging for these orders and ship them;)

    • This will be one of the biggest wins or biggest busts going by the number bought using these comments as an indicator!

      • the comments will roll to several pages if amazon starts to cancel these orders which will make it the messiest price error bust of all time

        • +1

To Amazon's credit, at least they don't charge your credit card until the item actually ships. So it means you're not left waiting days for an item that might never ship.

  • So, is WD 8/10TB MyBooks the new OzBargain currency?

I use to buycollect Eneloops just in case, but now I buy these…

    • +1

I want to know the Eneloop <-> WD MyBook exchange rate.

      • 8TB $MyB <==> 100AAA $En
        10TB $MyB <==> 100AA $En

      • +1

Well the way climate change is happening, id say Hard Drive!! Another tsunami can double the ROI.

  • Can you put 2x of these and 2x 10Tb reds together in a 4bay Synology ? Would they work together ok?

    • +1

Yes, just keep in mind you may need to put tape on 1 of the power pins on this

Also, if you have Red Pros, then they will be slightly bottlenecked by these drives (reds are 7K RPM, theses are 5K)

      • Cheers. I don’t have the Pros, just normal reds.

    • +1

In short - yes you can.

Longer answer - you might need to use some tape to block off the 3.3v rails on the sata power connector, it's really simple just use a non-conductive tape. Depends on your Synology system, as the drives use a newer standard.

      • I’ll be getting the ds918+, migrating from a 218+ as a result of this deal.

I’ll migrate to the 918 first with just 2x drives (my existing reds), them wack in 2 of these. I’m using the Synology raid type, BTRFS - Synology hybrid raid.

  • +4

Thanks OP. Ordered with a $20 item that i needed. If they cancel the drive i get free delivery anyway.

    • +2

      Haha same!

    • Good thinking. Must remember that for next time….

  • +1

    Seems to be expired now

  • +1

It won't let me add to cart for some reason.

  • +1

    Gone

    • +2

Seems like somebody who started at 8am on the US East Coast pulled the plug!

  • +1

Getting the same issue, not letting me add to the cart. Looks like I missed this by less than 20 minutes….

  • +1

    They've finally realised

  • +1

Amazon’s Stock manager must have walked into office. Get ready for all the cancelation folks!! Yes I had a great time here while it lasted.

    • +1

At least OzBargain would've made some sweet $$$ off the display ads whilst we were here. (Assuming everyone isn't using an AdBlocker)

      • +1

Yup its gone for good now. Went back to order the second one and can no longer order.
Even the US Amazon store increased the price to US $234.99, it was US $79.99 before.

    • +1

its time to call the global warehouses for stock.. Black Friday for this hard drive

      • +2

Here is my optimistic side…. Amazon US had a set limit of stock. It’s finaly ran out?

        • +1

it better be their argument for honouring all orders

  • +1

Was watching this all go down from the start - what a ride!

  • +1

someone getting fired as we speak…

    • +1

Nah, Jeff Bezos can afford this. All good.

      • +4

nah, prob not after his divorce LOL, richest man in the world now in 10th place after the richest woman in the world.

  • +1

I wonder what voucher denomination we're all getting?

    • +3

      At this magnitude maybe nothing!!

      • +1

Bezos could sneeze and not even notice if they honored the price.

  • +1

Thanks Amazon for your complementary $20 voucher. (Preempting the email soon to arrive)

  • +1

    Okay!
Got one when I already have two hard drives of 3TB in total not filling up ..
And still, don't know what I could put in this 10TB monster

    • +1

you are doing well .. trust your OZB instinct ;)

  • +1

How long before they usually send out cancellation email?

    • +3

      I hope never!!
